As recent as 2019 when I last visited China, squat toilets were still the norm. I remembered walking all over Baiyun International Airport looking for a seat toilet. I couldn't find any! I had to squat and failed to rise from my squating position. I fell. Fortunately, the toilet was super clean. It was embarrassing but I didn't get hurt, except my pride and self confidence. Today I'm 75.

In the year 2002, when my company in Malaysia sent me to their China new factory to setup the IT system, they still built our factory with such traditional toilet: multiple rectangular holes without even a divider, so everybody can see each other shitting. After that we proposed to the management to change back to the Malaysian style (or western style) toilet. ^^

The kind of toilets shown in these tech demo's still aren't used in china except in extremely high-end places, where important customers ask for them. Most toilets are still exactly as this video shows in the beginning of the video. Disgusting, unhygenic sewage bathrooms. The toilets they've "added" are in these bathrooms, off to the side, and still function the same as a typical squat toilet. And add in as you noticed that there are still no dividers. Yes, you can hold hands with the person next to you while you poop together. One on the squat toilet and the other on the token western toilet.
The washlet is a godsend. I don't have one at home, but I have a special nozzle which I can attach to a plastic bottle and it works as a portable bidet.

The only reason I can see using voice activation is only if you want a complete touchless system but replacing it with sensors is much better than voice, in case people can't speak the language or can't speak. Make the system completely automated and touchless.

The ratio of toiets shld b doubled or more for females as we take longer time using them. I noticed dire, insufficient seated toilets though. People with injury or recently operted on n those who hv leg probelms cant use the many available squat toilets. Toilet makers shld take note to design all toilets, especially the squatting ones with foldable railings or some sort of sliding or pop up ones to address this problem for easier usage.
One of the many reasons I have been so concerned about visiting Asia is lack of clean facilities when traveling outside of the large cities. I want to go to pretty places not just the crowded location but have seen so much spoken about the bad rest areas. I literally would wear a diaper if I had to deal with those squatting toilets, that is how you get sick and die. It is very sad for the people to live that way and that is why you see people doing their business in the street on videos. People should not be living that way in 2024 no matter their form of government. I am glad to see China address this, their people work hard and deserve better.

We just came back from China and found there’s still lots of crouched type toilets in train station and museums. We didn’t see any of these types of toilets.
Notice that he only showed these smart toilets in the showroom, not in actual public toilets. I don't think the manufacturer is targeting China market, they plan to export to Japan where this is the type of toilets they use over there.

A lot of Chinese cities still have squat toilets (not safe for seniors and handicapped people) with no toilet paper, water and soap. The squat toilet is supposed to be cleaner because your butt doesn't touch anything, but sometimes l see pee on the floor etc. My grandma have to wear a diaper when she wants to go out a little longer since she is 88 and can't squat anymore. Please provide at least one handicapped seated toilet in public spaces.

Chinese now sit on the can all day just to charge all their mobiles. Meanwhile in India a quick poop at the beach and they are still having less hygiene issues. I have seen similar attempts in India, pink luxury houses for women. But old ladies just ignore them and pee in the street just outside of them.
