    Jan! I love you! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! It was basic but in-depth! Thank you for sharing the equipment basics! Thank you for sharing in-depth how-to on creating these wonderful personalized gifts. You are a TRUE blessing. I wanted to do this for people who have supported my life but did not have all the “fancy” equipment everyone else was showing. 🎉 Thank you again for sharing the ins and outs, tips and tricks, and basic “get her done” techniques.

    I loved you video. Beautiful pens! I'm thrifty also. To hold my pens I found a paint brush holder from the dollar tree. For me it works great and holds a lot of pens. It's called Crafter's Square Pencil and Brush Organizer, $1.25

    Thank you so much! Now I know how my leopard print glitter pin pens were made. I think I’ll give this technique a try. It will be my first time using epoxy and glitter. I never knew that flies were attracted to epoxy. Thank you for sharing this with us. Yes, I’m a year late watching your video, but I’m basically just starting out with this element of sublimation, heat press, personalization on buttons, etc., to my existing print shop business.
    Again, thank you so much!
    PS. I watch a ton of UA-cam videos and practice a lot as well.

    Jan, these turned out great! Question: How do you clean your silicone cup when you had epoxy in it? I just can't get mine clean. Thanks Jan

    • @JanGarciaRN
      @JanGarciaRN  2 роки тому

      I usually use little medicine cups and throw them away. The big silicone cups I let the epoxy dry them squish the cup to break the epoxy off the sides. Spray really well with rubbing alcohol and use paper towel to go round inside. But. Since there might be left over lint or epoxy inside I don’t use my silicone cup for my final coat of anything I make. Hope this help.

    When you epoxy then glitter, does the epoxy drip like it does when you epoxy over the glitter? I usually use mod podge then epoxy, but lately I feel like it's an unnecessary step and waste of additional product 🤔

    Do you need to spray paint the pens? I’m making black pens and the pen is already black so I’m hoping I can skip the painting step?
    Also you said it’s 500° in your she-shed how do you get it so hot in there? Is it necessary for it to be that hot?

    • @JanGarciaRN
      @JanGarciaRN  3 місяці тому

      lol. No it’s just hot in my shed because I live in south Texas and it was summer. I think you could skip spray painting. I would test on one before doing multiple. There’s alwqys a learning curve. Right now I’m learning to make amigurumi so I’ve made a couple of animals just so I can learn. They’re far from perfect but their for practice. Every time you make a pen you will learn something and keep getting better. 😁

    • @JanGarciaRN
      @JanGarciaRN  2 роки тому

      It might, it just depends on how thick the epoxy is over the plug,, sand whatever doesn't come off with the plug. I have started going in and pulling the plug off before the epoxy dries and tapping the end with my finger to smooth.

      I do like your WW pens. They are nicer than the others on Etsy. What is your price? Where are you located and what’s the price for shipping? If reasonable I’d like my name on it in a pretty curly font. Thanks , Cynthia

    What do you charge for just a regular glitter pen

    • @JanGarciaRN
      @JanGarciaRN  2 роки тому +1

      Depends on the pen. Anywhere from $10 to $20. Depends on the pen. Is the vinyl offset? One glitter or several? Chunky glitter needs extra epoxy so more time. Only a name or does your customer want any other things in it. Do you have to ship it. Then consider this, the packaging you have to buy amd the trip to the moose office. Consider all
      These when you price your pens. My most expensive pen I sell is my wonder woman pen for $25 on Etsy. That includes shipping. Hope that helps.

    I can’t seem to get my pens to cure evenly. They are bumpy. Any suggestions? I’ve watched your tutorial over and over again. I’m going to try warming the epoxy bottles before mixing and add heat to my area where the pens spin. It’s under 50 degrees here so I’m thinking it’s the temp that’s the problem.

    • @JanGarciaRN
      @JanGarciaRN  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Brandy, I know its so frustrating when your pens have bumps. So what kind of bumps are they? Is it little spikey bumps from maybe dust landing on your pen while its drying, or left over lint on the pen before you epoxy it? Then wipe your pens off really good with a coffee filter before you epoxy and cover with a box to prevent anything landing on it while its drying. Is it wavey bumps like the epoxy is drying uneven? Use a small level on your pen before you start spinning to make sure its level, and after you put on your epoxy hit it quickly with a torch to burst all the bubbles that might come to the surface? Is it glitter poking through that is leaving your pen bumpy? Then sand and put on another layer. My pens have as many coats of epoxy as if I was making a tumbler. Hope these suggestions help. It is also hard to epoxy when it is so cold depending on what type of epoxy you use. I live where its very hot so I use DIY artisan epoxy and it doesn't like the cold, it takes along time to cure all the way so I keep my epoxy in the house and warm up my She Shed before I epoxy when its cold. Then when its dry enough that I can remove it I bring it in the house and let it finish dry ing. Hope all that info helps. If not, I am here to continue to help you trouble shoot. Jan

    Very pretty but lots of unnecessary steps. Since you're covering with lots of glitter, the coat of paint is a waste of time and paint. If you apply your decal to a smooth, epoxied surface you don't require the E6000 step as when you apply the final coat of epoxy it will act as the glue to adhere any loose edges. You shouldn't have loose edges if vinyl is properly applied. And I have idea what purpose it serves to add the clear coat. Again, the epoxy does the work of adding shine. You could make these pens in a quicker amount of time and less expensive by eliminating these steps. Cheers.

      Thanks for watching. Unfortunately I have tried many different ways and the only way I can get my vinyl to not lift in the edges is to apply a thin layer of E6000. This is also true of my tumblers. Maybe it’s the vinyl. Not sure. But all these steps gets me a bump and lump free finish. ♥️
