Not playing the fourth line and just rolling three is catching up with them especially during the third period . I can’t believe the mayor is still out there. Senile Lou must go!
If they're old and tired, that just reinforces how poorly the roster is constructed. Lou must go and ownership seems to be the only people who don't see it. Thanks for the comment, Robert. LGI
Gil, I find this team being constantly outplayed in the 3rd period almost comical at this point and it’s not even December yet! Lou is not the guy to make the moves to change this culture of blown leads … what is your opinion on how this team can maneuver its assets it get this fixed
Steve, it's not going to be easy. This team needs to make some moves by the deadline that may hurt in the short term but are necessary in the long term. That may mean trading away guys like Lee, Pageau, Nelson and Palmieri and maybe either Pelech or Pulock. Start accumulating picks and prospects. It may take a few years to get this team good again, but at least they'll have something to look forward to as the young prospects develop and improve. What do you think? Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Gil, having studied a B.S in Kinesiology, the first thing they teach you is that when a team or athlete fails in both the mentally and physically aspects of the game, it all starts with the training staff. Someone is not doing their job. Building trust and respect is crucial, and it starts with the leaders. I love Roy ever since I was a kid, but the coaching staff needs to step it up asap.

Good morning team! Gil, it's the same old story where a team finds a way to lose. The Wings didn't earn that win as much as the Islanders giving the game away. I don't believe in hypnosis, but it's not my belief or disbelief that matters, it's what the players believe. They need to get the third period blown leads out of their heads. You may be right. Maybe their legs aren't fully under them during the period. Will extra conditioning help? Possibly, but they need to do "something" different than what they have been doing. This could develop into a bad habit, if it hasn't done so already. I know the game against the Blues looked different, meaning they played all three periods. Thank you, Sir. Everyone, have a great rest of the day. See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
Thanks, Tony. It's always good to hear from you. Whatever the reason is, they have to turn this around ASAP before it costs them the season. I think it's a combination of psychological issues and a lack of team depth and talent. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
I totally get it, AlGravina. You'll certainly see the highlights that way. I hope they figure out how to break out of this third period malaise, but so far, they don't have the answer. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Islanders lack shut down line Roy does not trust 4th line and consequently is loading up the minutes on the other line and this is an old time This is a team that has never had any accountability I mentioned last week that someone needed to stand up and say this is a clown show Malik nabers is rookie on the giants and basically called the giants a clown team This is a team which has always made excuses after excuses for it's players Inability to make outlet pass or clearing pass
The lack of trust in the 4th line is evident. The fact that they also don't score or shut opponents down makes resting the other lines their only significant contribution. The Isles need more accountability, but the lack of depth on the roster makes that difficult. Thanks for the comment, Alexyaybar. I hope the Isles make the necessary changes soon but Lou definitely won't make them. LGI
We are not talking about just 1-2 blown third period leads it happens with such incredible frequency the likes that may not have ever been seen in the n.h.l before. THAT IS COACHING. Blown third period leads is 100% coaching. ROY IS NOT A GOOD COACH PERIOD.MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT THAT.Roy has enough talent on this roster that they should easily have atleast 6 more points then they currently have despite the injuries. His deployment of players during various times in the game ,his line matching juggling of the lines ,strategy etc is not good. He is not putting his players in a position to succeed .
@@Deuce_Allan peter laviolette but dont know if he was available at that time otherwise gerard gallant . Best would be to re hire barry trotz that by far would be the best case scenario.
Tough to say how good Roy is. Obviously, his approach hasn't gotten elite results. Of course, this same roster had the same problem under Lambert. I don't blame Roy for the problem, but he hasn't found the solution for it either. Thanks for the comment, southeasasiavibes. LGI.
Notice under Coach Al Arbour and Coach Barry Trotz we wouldn’t be seeing so many 3rd period collapses like we do now. Team might need a shakeup to bench a few players and give the players in Bridgeport a chance. A couple of other suggestions are the following, The Islanders organization make a couple of trades,it dont seem like The NY Islanders are going very far this season anyway. Oh and where are The NY Islanders owners and GM to address the problems? The NY Islanders players should look at 1980-1984 NY Islanders film/video for some inspiration, and see how Hall of Fame, Champions played. The NY Islanders organization really needs pride to regain better standards in building a Championship type team. Also The Loyal NY Islander fans deserve better.
You make good points, Robert, but Lou Lamoriello won't shake up the roster. He seems to be the only one who believes this roster is good enough as is. I would love to see some changes, but I don't think they're forthcoming. You're right about these collapses not happening under Arbour and Trotz, but they are happening far too often now. I hope things will improve once the injured players return, but these problems predate the injuries. Thanks for the comment and good insight. LGI.
Gillis, I have a genuine question. Does Barzal want to come back in this season knowing no single player stood up for him after that nasty hit on him? Does he feel like he can't be protected and want to rest instead of coming back to a team playing for nothing??
I am not sure if I can answer that question, Craig. He probably does, but his teammates' failure to stand up for him has to be in the back of his mind. Thanks for the comment/question. LGI.
gil I think you have your answer but didn't answer your own question...it isn't a youth issue...it is a conditioning issue..these guys legs are gone in the third...they have no forecheck in the third..always back on their heels and in their own zone penned in. and man Wally, what a bad game...guy never skates...never seen a young player like that just stand around so much..and those two blue line giveaways on the power play...
If it's a conditioning issue, that's on Roy and the players. They need to be in shape. Wally has blown every chance he's been given and it's a shame. Thanks for the comment, foleydvm. LGI
As I said yesterday and several times before, this team is just not aggressive enough. Bring up Pinho and Karlstrom to replace Wally and Martin, at least until Duke and Barzy return. No matter what, fore checking and pressing is absolutely necessary.
They certainly aren't aggressive enough in the third period. Pinho and Karlstrom won't solve big problems but they could be a little better than Wally and Martin. We know this won't happen under Lou. Thanks for the comment, mrjghoward. LGI.
Gm Gil. The team has one path to victory because they lack the talent to be multi faceted. The Isles *must* capitalize on the few opportunities that present themselves ... Defensive breakdowns are the hallmark of this team which means scoring 1 to 2 goals a night is NOT going to get it done. this is the NHL so you have to assume your opponent is going to score at least 2 goals. The Isles are neither built for nor talented enough to handle teams that are going to score 3 or more goals consistently. While the lead was blown, the Isles were giving up scoring chances from inside the dot from the drop of the puck and it finally caught up with them. We can talk about the 'improved' play of certain players but the fact is that improvement has not translated to more goals and better defense. The Isles are on pace to finish the season 20 gams below .500. Roy isn't a coach he's a caretaker of one of the worst rosters in the NHL. its not like the team has McDavid on IR so any players returning from injury will have a marginal effect. Going to be a very long season.
It looks that way, Eric. The bottom line is, this team is past due for a retool or even a rebuild. When you haven't won a playoff series in 3 years, you can't bring back the same lineup as they get older and expect different results. If Lou won't make the moves necessary to reset things, he has to go. But ownership seems content with the muddy middle and a long rebuild ahead. Spot on with your analysis, Eric. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
You could time it every game to the 50 minute mark. With ten minutes left the isles just expect to lose if they aren't up by more than two goals. Crazy that Roy hasn't fixed this. I really believe Roy would be a better GM and get a talented proven coach. Lou needs to go. I know they're injured but these games are so winnable.
I thought he would figure it out as well. If they don't, the season could be "over" quickly. Roy as a GM would be a welcome change, but owners are behind Lou. Thanks for the comment, veritasinvicta8128. LGI
It's really painful to keep watching this team. Trade Palms and Nelson since they're playing well right now. Trade whoever else, maybe Dobson even tho I think he will continue to grow into a great player. Just get the dinosaur out of the front office and make needed changes. Over this nonsense
It's up to ownership to make to get the dinosaur out of the front office. They seem to be the only ones who don't see that Lou is keeping this team in the muddy middle and damaging the long term future of the organization. Thanks for the comment, Craig. LGI.
Every Team in the league that Plays the Islanders and are behind in the third period, will know they’ll end up winning the game. You just have to put a little pressure on them, and they’ll collapse.
Agreed, Patricia, but we can't let that continue obviously. Not sure what can be done except to shake up the roster a bit, but Lou won't do it. Thanks for the comment and LGI. Always good to hear from you.
this team collapses in the 3rd period because they don't have enough tough players. they don't grind out wins. when you have Brock Nelson try to be that tough guy in front of the net...it should not be Lee's, Nelson's JP's job-Kyle to be the physical fowards-the 4th line has been a non factor. they need to add youth size and grit.
@LockedOnIslanders Gil it's a different team they're a little older some players are gone. in a life span of a team it happens. you give up picksk for the now over time the talent diminishes...
And they lose again...hey they should bring back the fish sticks sweaters, they tried everything else...let's go fish sticks let's go 🎶🎶. Trade Nelson and try to get some picks, trade Dobson for picks, sell everything not bolted down for some picks. But that one penalty kill was perfect.
Lou won't make big moves like that. He keeps doubling down on a roster that hasn't won a playoff series in 3 years and is getting older. Thanks for the comment, GM-ri4ww. LGI
Haven’t been watching them too much because of the poor start. This is a repeat of last season. I’ve seen some people comment on FB about how Roy is the problem. I think the problem is the players. It’s on Lou to make player changes at this point.
If Roy is the chef, he can't make a great meal if he doesn't have good ingredients. That's on Lou. He can't keep doubling down on a roster that hasn't won a playoff series in 3 years and is aging. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
they are getting manhandled and bullied in the 3rd period. They need a big guy tuff guy line, especially if you have mediocre scoring. When that 3rd and 4th line role out they should be imposi g there will on the opponent and thats not happening.
I dont watch for them to win anymore I watch to see how they will blow the lead in the third. How are people still spending their hard earned money watching this garbage and going to games. And this hasnt been going on just the last two years this goes all the way back to Dipietro minus the Barry Trotts years.
Here are the plain facts. The NY Islanders are a 40 minute hockey team and the entire league knows it and Last night was a perfect example. The Red Wings came out in the third period with a ton of momentum and the Islanders had no response. So the recipe for beating the Islanders is keep the game close for the first two periods and save energy, then in third come out full throttle and put them away. It's very simple, this roster is simply too old to play the sixty minutes they need to win.
The Isles are a 40 minute hockey team but the game is 60 minutes long. They aren't good enough to win consistently playing less than a full game. thanks for the comment, pyrielrising4338. LGI.
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? If the Islanders don't ✋️ blowing leads in the 3rd period, they may have to sort to hypnosis. They were back to their old ways. Alexander Romanov missed the game due to illness. The 2 good PK's which was great. Isiah George got his NHL point. They didn't play smart hockey in their own zone. They have 3 players under 25, and more are under under 30, and they have more over 30. Patrick Roy needs to have a sit down and keep working them like 🐕. Anthony DuClair's ⛸️ on his own, but he's not practicing with the team. Hero, Anders Lee for defending himself, even it was double minor. Casey Czesikus, 8 out 10 faceoffs won. Bo Horvat, 7 for 7 face-offs won. 🐐, COMMUNITY EFFORT for another 3rd period collapse. Ilya Sorokin's looked good so far. Maxim Tsyplakov, is on a solid pace. Isiah George is only 19 years, but he's steady and still learning. Kyle Palmieri is looking good in front of the 🏡 folks. Bad, the PP and PK, along with the 3rd period collapse. HAPPY 🎂, CHRIS OSGOOD. Hear from you later, Gil, but before I go, I read a not so nice memory of the Islanders in their 3rd season. On 11/03/ 1974, they were getting ready to play the Flyers at the Spectrum. Now, the Flyers, the defending Stanley Cup at the Champions at the ⏲️, had heard that this young team wasn't the same one Dave Schultz terrorized 2 years ago, so, they brought out their secret weapon, and we know who that was, and even though they lost, they gave them a good scare. Of course, the fat lady would sing 6 months later, despite the 🎉 #18 would present her. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Ah, I remember that challenge of Schultz. If only the Isles could have beaten the Flyers in Game 7. Kate Smith made a difference, I guess. If the Isles don't have a solution to the third period issues, the season will be over far too quickly. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Thanks, John. It is too easy for opponents to come back in the third period. Hope they can turn things around and solve this issue. Thanks for the comment, John. LGI.
Make the playoffs? Slight chance? Do any real damage if they make it? Next to none. This team's ceiling is barely making the playoffs and getting ousted in the first round. Thanks for the comment, Joseph. LGI
Gil the reason this happens is that in the Lou Era he has not addressed the offense. We average only 2 goals a game for years. Had we score more than that we would lose less games in the third period. This team is not a playoff team again this year. Anyone who waste their money or time watching this team needs to get a life at this point. They are old, boring and lifeless. I stopped watching this team as soon as Lou became GM, looks like I made the right decision, this team stinks
Jim, it's tough to argue with your point. The Isles had some chances to make it 3-1 and couldn't pull it off. They just aren't good enough. Everybody not named Lou knows changes need to be made to this roster. Thanks for the comment and LGI.

Happy Groundhogs Day!!! I might just watch the 1st 2 periods every night and then go to bed. At least I would go to sleep thinking we played great
I totally get it, AlGravina. You'll certainly see the highlights that way. I hope they figure out how to break out of this third period malaise, but so far, they don't have the answer. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Let’s not make this situation a curse “a la” Balard of the Toronto Maple Leafs…
Can't let it get worse, homahochelaga7011. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Islanders lack shut down line
Roy does not trust 4th line and consequently is loading up the minutes on the other line and this is an old time
This is a team that has never had any accountability
I mentioned last week that someone needed to stand up and say this is a clown show
Malik nabers is rookie on the giants and basically called the giants a clown team
This is a team which has always made excuses after excuses for it's players
Inability to make outlet pass or clearing pass
Who would you have hired if it was your decision at the time that they needed a coach with who is available?
*Gil, sorry for typo
Going to be a very long season.
you said it. roy just a care taker waiting for habs opening. habs will have a lot of young talent to work with unlike isles so appealing to roy.
If Roy is smart, he doesn't stay he long. Thanks for the comment, Steven. LGI
LGI.
Time to Trade For the Future! Start with Dobson to the Sharks for their 1st rd pick! Draft Schaefer!!!!!!!!!!
A retool at least is needed but Lou won't do it. Ownership needs to replace him if he won't. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Under Trotz, they were difficult to play against. We can't say that today. Thanks for the comment MrRobt1971. LGI
@LockedOnIslanders Gil it's a different team they're a little older some players are gone. in a life span of a team it happens. you give up picksk for the now over time the talent diminishes...
Paging Jon Ledecky and Scott Malkin.......
They are ultimately the only people who can fix the problem. Thanks for the comment, ShaFnZAM. LGI
Roy isn't even going to want to be here if they don't get rid of lou
I wouldn't blame him if he felt that way. Thanks for the comment, corylennon2964. LGI
LGI
Your old and slow comment pretty much sums it up
Sadly, true. Thanks for the comment, dhyatt1080.
Not even close to happening, larrysabo799. thanks for the comment and LGI
I dont watch for them to win anymore I watch to see how they will blow the lead in the third. How are people still spending their hard earned money watching this garbage and going to games. And this hasnt been going on just the last two years this goes all the way back to Dipietro minus the Barry Trotts years.
It has been going on for a long time. It goes before Roy and Lambert. Thanks for the comment, 2tellthetruth-is2um
Easy get rich quick strategy. Bet the Islanders will lose the game in the third period. 😂. So frustrating to watch. Thanks Gil!
Thanks, John. It is too easy for opponents to come back in the third period. Hope they can turn things around and solve this issue. Thanks for the comment, John. LGI.
They’ve got poor me syndrome.
So frustrating, Joseph. Hope they can turn it around. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Is there anybody left who thinks this team has a snowballs chance in hell to make the playoffs. Bush league garbage.
Make the playoffs? Slight chance? Do any real damage if they make it? Next to none. This team's ceiling is barely making the playoffs and getting ousted in the first round. Thanks for the comment, Joseph. LGI
there's no logical reason
So frustrating. Thanks for the comment, Ray.
Word
Jim, it's tough to argue with your point. The Isles had some chances to make it 3-1 and couldn't pull it off. They just aren't good enough. Everybody not named Lou knows changes need to be made to this roster. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
FIRE LOU!!!!!!
Should have happened already, yeright2pops, but isn't happening any time soon. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
