Flashback to the Doug Weight era of the franchise. There are players on this team who look for opportunities to just half-ass the effort whenever they can, if we actually had a GM they would be identified and shipped out because over the long term they end up being cancerous. Patrick Roy said after the game that if he would have seen a team quit on him for the last 8 minutes during his playing days he would have used his goalie stick to tear up the clubhouse when he came off the ice. It's an absolute shame that Lamoriello and Malkin don't possess his passion.
It's very frustrating that this keeps happening. The team seemed to think the game was over and stopped trying. You can't do that. And the GM and coach need to be on the same page. They aren't right now. Thanks for the comment, pyrielrising4338. LGI
Gm Gil. Watching that pass across the middle, in the first period, leading to a Hawks break away and giving up 3 successive goals in the 3rd period sums up this team. This roster is filled with players who just don't deserve a roster spot ... I often wonder after the game what gets said to the worst offenders when they review film. In some respects, i have the most respect for Martin and a couple of other guys who play hard, do what they can, and don't screw up. I watch Engvall, Mayfield, and Dobson and their mistakes and lack of effort just compounds game after game. The only person wearing the Rose colored glasses is Lou. Much of the game I felt like I was watching Bridgeport.
Yes, Eric, it's so frustrating to watch this team do what it does to hurt itself over and over. Even simple things just get tough for guys who aren't on their games. It has to change, the roster needs to change, but that means Lou needs to go Thanks for the comment and LGI
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you, After an ugly first period, I thought the Islanders were going to run the Blackhawks out of UBS Arena, but ended up holding for dear life. They couldn't keep Connor Bedard in check, proved it when he faked them out 2 of them and scored a goal. Isiah George took his benching like a man and bounced back good for him. The Duke and Barzy are almost ready. The goaltending is in trouble for both teams. They play in Chicago on Sunday, and they to tighten up. Hero, Hohlstron, Tsyplakov, and Horvat. 🐐, defense for nearly the PK. HAPPY 🎂, ANDREW LADD. He scored 2 goals against Montreal while they were playing in Brooklyn. Hear from you later, Gil, but before I go, I 👀 the game where yesterday's 🎂, boy, Billy Smith, put on a show, and Mike Bossy scored off his ⛸️. It was great. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Glad you enjoyed the Billy Smith memories. Can't have those late game collapses. Roy was pretty angry after the game. Thanks for the comment, Cindy. Have a great weekend and LGI.
Good morning team! Gil, the team looked flat in the beginning of the game. The PK hurt us again. Fitting for Cholowski, to score our first goal, since it was his penalty that put us down. Second period and most of the third. We can spin this any way we want to, I hate having a lead like this dwindle away at the end of the game. Horvat scored for a fan holding a sign saying, "Score a goal for me Horvat, It's my Birthday!" We should have fans going to the Islander games and that exact sign should be made for everyone on the roster lol. Thank goodness we did end up with the win. I'll take it. We just know we need to play better in the next against the Hawks. Everyone, have a great day and weekend! See everyone again Monday. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
We were fortunate to escape with the win. They need to play a full 60 minutes. You're right about Cholowski, after taking the penalty but it was good to see him score in response. I love the sign thing, let's get those signs made...LOL. Thanks for the comment, Tony. Have a great weekend and LGI
@@tonypalumbo898 - that 1st goal was a low effort play by Palmieri on getting the puck out. He over-skated the puck and didn't rush back to make sure it got out of the zone.
Can't play this way against better teams and get away with it. They have to learn from this. Thanks for the comment, Darrell. Have a great weekend and LGI.
Feel asleep middle of the 2nd was 2-1 islanders, woke looked at the score 5-4 , wasn’t surprised at all they were winning 5-1 , this team needs to get rid of half their players and get new blood flowing on this team, thanks Gil !!! LGI !!!
I sit in Section 109 ... when the team went up 5-1 with 13:00 to go everyone was like wow we might actually win this one ... I said hold on folks ... there's still 13:00 to go .. and sure enough ... they stopped playing ... if the game was 2:00 longer .. we lose ... they need to be held accountable ... period ... Mayfield was embarrassing and George really does need to go back to Bridgeport ... and like I have said time and time again ... SHOOT THE DARN PUCK!!!! Holy cow!!!
Shoot the puck? Shoot the ??? The Islanders? I think you're right, if the game was 2 minutes longer, the game is at least tied. Can't keep playing incomplete games. Effort is the one thing they can control. Thanks for the comment, gallegorider. LGI
Was back and forth watching Kucherov’s 6 point game figuring the islanders had this one in the bag at 5-1. Came back and it was 5-3. I’m thinking there’s no way they’re blowing this or is there? Like you say I’m happy with the win either way. Islanders just don’t do anything easy do they? 😂
Nothing comes easy for this team, Fran. I'm glad they escaped with the win but man, it was too close for comfort against the worst team in the league. Thanks for the comment and LGI
It's just a mess. This is against the worst team in the league!!!!! As a former coach I'd make an example of a few guys on this sinking ship. It's fundamental positioning! Roy call a time out to scream at them for being all over the place earlier! They charge money to watch this crap?
They need to make some changes. Today, Engvall and Wahlstrom placed on waivers, obviously to make room for returning injured players. They do struggle with hockey 101. Thanks for the comment, Joseph. LGI
NO FKN LEAD is safe with isles. Almost blow a 5-1 lead. Nothing comes easy for isles. Isles get 5 on ahl type goaltending even tho bedard showed the kind of skill isles only wish they had. With 10 hot louzer should move 10 in a deal for scoring help NOW. PROBLEMS-same old shit can't protect leads no matter if its 2-3-4 goals. HIGHLIGHTS-check out bedard just toe drag and toy with isles as 6 and 28 just lost on first hawks goal.
Kids have no real incentive these days. Players today are soft, they are spoiled, and don't know how to work hard for anything. In the old days, hockey players were mostly poor kids grinding it out, growing up on ponds, getting up at 4 o'clock in the morning and walking or riding a bicycle or whatever to go practice. Now they're rich philanthropic parents are driving them to the rink at 4 o'clock in the morning and cuddling/coddling them Through their entire childhood and they don't know what it's like to work hard for anything. No killer instinct in sports anymore except for a few people or a few teams that have the right coach that get their kids to buy into the program. Patrick Roy should be interim GM and still coach until this team REBUILDS through trades and assessment of the CAP and players contracts. It’s the only way to improve this mess
I totally get it. It would be tough for one man to do both jobs. Somebody has to take over as a new GM soon because the longer Lou stays and keeps doubling down on this group, the more difficult digging out of this hole will be. Thanks for the comment, heidiaunins. LGI
How bad is Mayfield. Honestly. Game in and game out he hurts the team. Either a dumb penalty or a huge turnover. What is he thinking on the last 2 goals. He gets knocked down on the 2nd to last goal pretty easily. Then makes a horrible pass to Romanov. Gets up and proceeds to not cover his man who just knocked him down and is sitting at the back door for an ez tap in. What is going on here fronts the play, but why? There are two islanders in front of mayfield. Only logical thing to do is cover the would be goal scorer. Game should have ended 5-2. The last goal he’s basically watching the play instead of taking the body of his man. Yea there is no time left, but this is the NHL. Ur getting payed to perform. I just don’t get this guy.
