We also break down the decision to place defenseman Grant Hutton on waivers to make room on the roster for Anthony Duclair's return and what other options the Isles had.
And we answer your mailbag questions about the team, Lou Lamoriello and several other topics.

The New York Islanders Won Two Straight Games for the First Time This Season
Didn’t like the Lafontaine trade when it happened, but getting Turgeon made it palatable. Loved Turgeon. Wasn’t the same player after the dale hunter cheap shot. Turgeon, Thomas, king line was deadly. Kasparaitis and Malakhov on defense. Then we trade everyone away. Turgeon for a disgruntled Kirk Muller. Brutal!!!
Definitely don’t think they are quitting on Roy. Think the players know there is no repercussions for terrible play. Isles have no depth. Who do we bring up when mayfield continues to turn the puck over, Ice the puck or take a dumb penalty. Nobody.
Gm Gil. While scoring more goals is always a good thing, their Goals against, especially in the 3rd period, suggests his production would have to massively improve along with others. I would argue their atrocious special teams (the worst in the league) and non existent defense is far more pressing. I believe Roy is a competent coach but this team lacks the skill and motivation to respond. A fourth coach with this same roster (Trotz/Lambert/Roy/?) becomes the definition of insanity. Any of the top coaches in the league would refuse the job unless they overhauled the roster. This suggests Roy took the job without any input into the roster.. that was a mistake.
Putting Hutton on waivers, it's just another idiot move by this organization. Send Mayfield, Engvall and Fasching down, and play George, Pinho, and Karlstrom. When is this organization going to wake up and get rid of Lou!!!
Good morning team! Gil, the game against the Canes was such a disappointment, I couldn't find something good to say about it so I didn't comment anything at all. As for Nelson, I feel his scoring drought may continue. Even I know Nelson's sweet spot shot is far side top shelf. If I know it, I know our opponents are looking for him to shoot there first. If he doesn't try to change it up every now and again, I'm afraid he will be in for a long season. Then we need to address the missed opportunities, or shots missing the net to be more specific. One of my favorite saying from Goring is, there's no reason to miss the net. It's the only thing on the ice that doesn't move. Thanks again for what you do, Sir. Everyone, have a wonderful day! See you all again tomorrow! Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
Thanks for the comment, Tony. I hope Brock changes things up and finds his scoring touch again. It is likely a matter of time although I doubt he scores 30 plus this season. I hope the team can find a way to get back on track. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
What the islanders need to do is make a trade with Vancouver 4 Hoglander and Desarnais to get moving forward
Good 🌄 Gil, how are you? Will the real Brock Nelson please come out and start scoring goals again? He can't put this on the Duke and Barzy being out on this. That was a sign for him to step up. Grant Hutton was placed on waivers. I understand why they did it. They've got to make room for Anthony DuClair on the roster. Keep Isiah George so he can start developing into a real NHL player. Fans have been screaming for Lamoriello's head on a 🍽, but the ticket sales, prices at the concession stand, bad attendance, and, of course, the Islanders aren't helping matters by playing like they're skating in the mud. HAPPY 🎂, SCOTT PEARSON. Hear from you later, Gil, but before I go. I was reading an article about the ⏲️ the Islanders played the then Atlanta Flames at the Coliseum on 11/01/1977. They burned the Flames 9-0. In that game, Trots became the first Islander to score 4 goals in one game. In the game, the first goal he scored, he held off one defender with one arm, and scored the goal with the other. IS THAT STRENGTH OR WHAT? Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Ideally I’d love more scoring, but this team has very little finish, so making passes with high probability of turnover just to generate a shot, or shooting and missing the net, is a losing proposition for them. Would love to see them experiment with Soviet era keep-away, possession-driven hockey. You can’t give up a goal if the other team doesn’t have possession, and with high possession levels opportunities for (some) good shots emerge naturally. Desperately chasing shots is burying them.
Just watched breakdown of why Rangers are so bad. They switched from man to man to zone because they figured out the last five cup winners played zone and they can’t get it right. Also their D pinch and teams figured out how to beat their pinching. Its amazing how bad coverage around the net has been in the East and the Isles are among the worst. Still have to see how Barzy, Duc and Bo get back to their chemistry. Only TB, Pens and Ottawa are playing well below the top 3. I would to bench Romanov he is terrible right now. Note Toronto is 14-4 at home and Carolina is 13-4 so its not a surprise the Isles were clobbered. Nobody else is close with that home record. Wash and NJ better on the road. This is the weirdest year already.
i can say with 100% confidence roy is not a good coach. Here is why. Even with OR WITHOUT all the injuries , this team was horrendous holding onto leads.....that my friends is 100% coaching. I have been watching the nhl for many years now and i can tell you i have seen coaches with less talent much better holding onto leads and on special teams.Roy's x's and o's and strategy deployment of players line matching leaves a lot to be desired. We have good talent on this roster. We may not have a elite finisher but very few teams do. Our D is solid. We have been decimated by injuries but despite that we still have enough talent on this roster to get the job done guys like holmstrom Tsyplakov etc. I am 51 years old and i did lack patience because winning 4 consecutive cups and 19 straight playoff series will do that to you. But post dynasty i have learned to have eternal patience because i am a islander i am from long island but you know what.....ITS FREAKING RUNNING OUT.
Are you kidding? He won the jack adams award in colorado and has won world junior championship( thats equivalant to ncaa national title) guy can flat out coach. Players are old and slow and roster needs to be over hauled
@@jimmyguy4569 NAH its literally 100% guaranteed that if we have a lead after 2 periods we blow it and loose the game. It has happened at a frequency and pace NEVER seen before in the history of the NHL. All those blown leads is 100% coaching. He has never won 1 stanley cup as a NHL coach. Period. If he was such a good coach why was he out of a job in the NHL for so long. And when he gets fired by the islanders lets see how long it will take him to get another job in the NHL...He is already almost 60 years old.
The book is still out on Roy as far as I'm concerned. He has a very flawed team to work with and the failure to hold leads was there before he arrived. He hasn't been able to fix it. Thanks for the comment, southeastasiathegoodlife LGI
He has a mixed record, jimmy guy4569. He didn't do well after winning the Jack Adams, but he did deserve to win it. The team now does need to be upgraded as Roy himself said. Thanks for the comment and LGI
29 devaluing real fast making louzer look like an a hole for not moving 29 when he had value. Its called selling high-something louzer knows nothing about. Get uses to selling low at this point louzer. Contenders are always looking for depth up front and 2 c help. Too bad wings are in same boat as isles and need a 2 c as well as compher sucks. Oh well louzer probably has the 3 and 5 year deals waiting for 29 and 21 as players moving in trades all over the place. kakko to kraken, p o joseph to pens as louzer snoozes with no grasp of how to read trade market or when to move a player.
The islanders have too many forwards who play the same style of game. Islanders are too one dimensional and predictable They have a collection of forwards who all play the same style of play Islanders need to play with different line mates However I believe you are missing the bigger problem and it's not Brock but rather culture Casey: unfortunately I thought we played an overall good game He said this after the Carolina game On what planet does he live on. Emblematic of a team that lacks accountability and does not want to be criticized Yes to win you need your best players to be the best players on the ice But no matter how much skill a team has when you display such toxic attitude you won't win.
Hutton sucks .Hopefully a team picks him up.
He must be traded asap! Along with palmieri, lee, cizikas and dobson.. and Martin and engval must go also.before the trade deadline.
Brock Nelson deserves better
Yeah I don’t care how he scores. Just score enough for us to still lose and trade him
Break out or trade him now and get something for him.
Both. We need him to bump his trade value. If the Islanders re-sign him it will be an absolute disaster.
Gil I give you a lot of credit to keep making videos and live streams about this team although they do give you a lot of material on what not to do.I would just like to say thank you for doing it and giving us lowly Islander fans a place to vent our frustrations
Thanks 2telltyhetruth. For what it's worth, the fans are not lowly, just the way the organization is being run into the ground right now. Thanks for the comment and LGI
@LockedOnIslanders I didn't mean it in a derogatory way I apologize to the fans I just meant we have been so let down and beat up from a once great organization that has become nothing more then a joke. Again my apologies to the fans and you.
I feel Lou has already approached Brock and told him he is going to be traded! And Brock is like really? Me? And so He has in his mind he has to pick up his family and move. I would play like poop if I was going to be traded for Christmas
I doubt he's moved until we get close to the trade deadline and Lou may be more likely to sign him to an extension rather than trade him. I hope ownership prevents Lou from extending players or trying to add to this roster to get it to squeak into the playoffs. Thanks for the comment, Otto. LGI
Nothing new the last three years. The Isles core is incapable. Attendance has been declining since second half of last season. Fire Lou before nobody shows up to games.
It is past time, barriem5318. Now it's up to ownership to do it. Thanks for the comment. LGI
No show. I agree with you Gil, they are going to burn out Sorokin once again. If Lou doesn't act like a GM soon, he needs to go. LGI
I don't see Lou changing direction any time soon, unfortunately. Then it will be up to ownership to figure out what to do. Thanks for the comment, Darrell. LGI
Patrick Roy is a great coach Lou needs to gracefully step down! Roy can be interim GM and help this team rebuild!
I think Roy could be GM, but if he does, he probably steps down as coach. Tough to do both jobs. Lou has to be replaced one way or the other. Thanks for the comment, heidiaunins7306. LGI
Totally agree! I would move Roy to GM! I want to give Gallant a shot and let him bring in who he wants behind the bench not Lou’s devil buddies!
The question is can they get everyone healthy and go on a run? You said Duc had like 5 games? Skill backs teams off. Also they are pretty much same at home and on the road. Only the Pens and the Habs are much better at home. All other teams in the mix are about the same home and away so if they start playing well at home they can get back in it. They have 3 games against the Leafs and a home and home against the Pens coming up. This will be critical. Also rest Sorokin against the Leafs and then the break and go all out.
Sorokin being overplayed makes no sense but here we are. I hope Duclair's return helps, but I think the team's issues are deeper than adding one player. Thanks for the comment, Alex. LGI
Sit Engvall and Mayfield when Duke comes back and play George and either Karlstrom or Pinho. Also time for McClean to go! And obviously Lou has to go!!!
None of that happens if Lou is still here. His exit is the key to any changes taking place. Thanks for the comment, mrjghoward. LGI.
@LockedOnIslanders EXACTLY!!!
Czikas is invisible
He has been struggling this year for sure. Thanks for the comment, Thomas. LGI
When are the NYI owners going to see they need to retool or rebuild or whatever you want to call it ? Their team defense just stinks. Time to trade Nelson for whatever you can. Same with Pelech and Pulock. Those 2 have both taken huge steps back in last 2 years. Dobson is not worth an extension. Horvat has adapted the country club mentality of the rest of the team. How can they not see this ? Goodbye Lou and start the long rebuild.
It's past time for ownership to realize that change is needed and it won't come as long as Lou is GM. Thomas, it's ultimately up to ownership to do what is necessary. If they don't see it, nothing will happen. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Not out of reach, but with the inertia of likely not making the playoffs, and an early March trade deadline, you have Nelson and Palmieri both on expiring contracts. Highly desired trade targets. Dobson, can wait until the end of the season since he remains a RFA. This will accelerate the timeline of the likely needed rebuild. Huge P.S. Make Double down Lou finally quit. He is exactly what you Isles fans now do not need.
Lou has said he doesn't believe in a retool or rebuild. If he doesn't trade away guys like Nelson or Palms (and many others) to get younger, faster, and more skilled, the organization will be even deeper into mediocrity. It's past time for change. Thanks for the comment, billf23351. LGI
Gm Gil. I turned off the game once they were 2-0 down. This team is an utter embarrassment ... The reason Roy has not been fired is simple. This is the house Lou built. As long as ownership support Lou this team will suck. I won't be surprised if Roy takes the fall or he walks away. This IS one of the worst teams in the league and it requires fans to stay away AND the media to be utterly ruthless when questioning team leadership.
I agree, this is the team that Lou built and nothing will change unless he no longer is the GM. Doubling down on an aging roster that hasn't won a playoff series in 3 years and counting is the definition of insanity. Thanks for the comment, Eric. LGI.
@@LockedOnIslanders An interesting article in today's NYT about both the Rangers and Isles. There is a good chance we're returning to the Charles Wang/Garth Snow era of the Isles
Hi Gil, real good show! So we will either barely make it or not make it at all-our minor league team is in shambles and our big team sucks! Is this the proper way to conduct business on a professional level? Are the owners proud of this? Is this GM in such denial? This is an embarrassing display of how to run an NHL franchise. The same players, the same mistakes, the same losses! Either losing these leads, barely hanging on or getting blanked. Special teams are abysmal. Either owners are gullible or ignorant to the game. This is crap hockey! Take care Gil!
Frankie, changes have to be made. Ultimately, that's on ownership. The roster is poorly constructed, aging and there is no help from the farm team for at least another year or two. It's past time to add picks and prospects. Thanks for the comment, always good to hear from you. LGI
Zzzzzzzzzzzzz checked out really early on that one.
Sadly, you didn't miss much. Thanks for the comment, Joseph. LGI
Only the Rangers being terrible makes this not as upsetting as it could be. But I've given up hope by this point. They're never healthy and if anything this loss was easier to accept because it wasn't a meltdown.
The Rangers floundering does take some of the sting out of it, but the Isles need a major rebuild. Thanks for the comment and LGI
0:02 Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? If the Islanders knew how to hold it together and if 1/2 their OT/SO losses were wins, they'd be either in 3rd 4th place . I said they had to get their heads together, or it's going to be a long 🌙, and I called it. Isiah George sits in the press 📦. Anthony DuClair's not ready yet. Don't send that kid back, please. I like Brock Nelson, too, but he's still struggling. I think Patrick Roy's benching the wrong players just to get the message. I'M GLAD RADAR'S NOT HERE TO 👀 THIS. If I did not say it before, I wish Oliver the best of luck with the Bruins, but the next time they play the Islanders, don't be surprised if has blood in his eyes, so our Isles better be prepared. Hero, Bo Horvat, won 2/3 of his face-offs and had had 4 shots on Goal. 🐐 COMMUNITY EFFORT ON DEFENSE. Sometimes, I think they're stuck on a bad ⏲️ warp meaning 1972. HAPPY 🎂, CRAIG BERUBE. He won a Stanley as a Head Coach in St. Louis. Hear from you later, Gil, no nostalgia games this time, and LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Was a tough game to watch, Cindy. The team is just struggling in all facets of the game. I agree, Radar would not take the way this team is playing well. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
@LockedOnIslanders You're welcome, Gil. Hear from you tomorrow.
The first segment of the show is so spot on. I was really upset when I heard they were sitting George again. Let’s face it. This team is not changing until changes are made. 😢
Thanks, Fran. It's past time for those changes to occur. Now it's up to ownership. Thanks for the comment and LGI
Only thing I can hope is maybe a few trades get some high picks group together and try and move up to try and grab homegrown talent Hagens to kick off the rebuild. I’d say even if that means trading Barzal at this point. No use keeping Barzal if they rebuilding
Dan, a full rebuild would be welcomed although a retool would even be a start. There are 4-6 players they could build around. Overall, keeping the group together makes no sense to anybody not named Lou Lamoriello. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
It’s been a while but I’m back lol. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. All I and we can hope for is Lou is gone at seasons end so on a positive note the worse he does hopefully the odds go up that happens. As much as I would hate to see some players get traded I also would be happy they get a chance to play for a Stanley Cup. This team is at most terribly average. When you have a goalie like Sorokin and still can’t win much you have problems. For seasons the offense has been an issue now the defense has caught up with the offense and is just as terrible. I don’t think there are any defense man I’d can think of keeping other than George. Even offensively as well. This team needs a complete rebuild from the front office to the 7th defenseman.
Good to have you back Dan. Yes, terribly average is a good way to put it. A rebuild is past due but that means moving on from Lou and ownership hasn't elected to go that route. Why is beyond me, it's past due. It makes no sense to double down on an aging roster that hasn't won a playoff round in 3 years and counting. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
There is only one player I would not consider moving on this team and that is Sorokin. We have a number of players who are impossible to move. All I have to say is I hope Wally does well in Boston, we are all sick of this pathetic excuse of a team. Time to break up the cul-de-sac Club.
Past time to break up the old gang, I agree, Bigislanderfan. I also wish Wally well. He's a good guy and I think he needed a change of scenery. To make the necessary changes, we need a new GM, Lou has already said he won't retool or rebuild. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Time to clean up and ship the players out, and rebuild the team properly from Bridgeport up, good example Montreal, thank you Gil 👍🏼
Past time Raymond. But that means shipping Lou out first because he won't trade away his guys. Thanks for the comment and LGI
They shoot like children
Children score more often...lol. Thanks for the comment, Joseph. LGI
