Good morning team! Greg, welcome to Locked On Islanders! Gil, EXCELLENT show today, but I'm already missing NHL hockey. Gentlemen, thank you for the walk down memory lane. Everyone, have a wonderful day! Stay safe, especially if you're in the path of the snow. See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
The 19 consecutive playoff series wins is an unbreakable sports record. Full stop. The most recent team to even see it in the distance was the Golden State Warriors who topped out at 11 straight although they did go to five straight finals. In this age of free agency, that record will not be touched.
Great Podcast and great memories Gil & Greg! We were all lucky enough to be fans during these wonderful magical times. I don't think we will ever see a team win 4 cups in a row in the NHL ever again. LGI
Good 🌄, Gil, how are you? Also, good 🌄,Greg Prado, how are you? Remembering the Islanders from back in the Dynasty era. You're making 50 years' worth of Islander fans very happy. Like Rodney Dangerfield, I thought it stunk that the Islanders never got the respect they deserved. You interviewed not only the players but Jim Devallano and Stan Fischler. The 74-75 was a great Cinderella playoff run, and they got props from most of the NY Metropolitan Area. The Yankees, who sharing Shea Stadium with the Mets while Yankee Stadium was being refurbished, honored them with a NY ISLANDERS 🌙. When everybody thought they would go back to being the laughing stock again, it just didn't happen. They're right to hold Trots back for one more year because he proved that looks can be deceiving the next season. Butch Goring freshly traded from LA, a very good deal, Ken Morrow, 3 months removed from wing a gold 🥇 to winning a Stanley Cup. I respect you, Greg, but it will snow on September 22nd (my birthday) when I give those dreaded Rangers their props. As I've said before, and I'll say it again. THE HIGHER UPS SHOULD TELL LOU LAMORIELLO, EITHER BRING IN SOME NEW BLOOD, OR YOU'LL NO LONGER BE ON THE NY ISLANDERS PAYROLL. Hear from you later, Gil. There's more to this, of course. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
The positive is Garcomb and Holmer. Like the way they are playing! LGI
Edmonton didn’t win 3 in a row but 5 out of 7 I consider them a dynasty.
Islanders should get Kyrou and Paranko.
roy DOES NOT have the persona or personality to be a good or even great coach. His emotions cloud his judgement FACT. If he could control his emotions ,which he has to a degree he could be a great coach. THE BIGGER PROBLEM is the lack of any kind of a public statement from the owners to show they care. This is exactly like charles wang and garth snow 2.0. Thats what makes me furious. WE FREAKING PAY to support this team okay . TO THE OWNERS: GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR A**
When I was a young kid growing up in Pennsylvania we had cable tv, local Philly and NY stations. I remember watching some Islander games in their first season. In ‘73 the cable company dropped all the Philly stations, so if I was going to continue to watch hockey, my choices were the Rangers or Islanders on WOR 9. I chose the Islanders, Tim Ryan and George Michael were the announcers, big fan ever since. Just to name a few, the memories of coming back down 0-3 against PGH to the 19 consecutive Stanley Cup playoff series and 4 cup wins!! ISLANDERS FOREVER, LGI!!!!
I didn't know wham guy did isles games as well.
I became an isles fan by putting on WOR one night as a nine year old. A late night game against the Oilers and I recall all the Gretsky hype to this day. I was shocked when I saw him, expecting some 6 foot 6 guy weighing 270 lbs.
Love you gil youre the man. Lets get you on isles never say die podcast with TJ and The Grumpy Old Man. You guys touch on a lot of same points. Question for you, please dont take offense- love your show, listen to you a lot on the shower LMAO, but ive always found the player birthday of the day a little corny. Is thst your own spiel or does locked on isles push that on you? Either way still a loyal fan! I just shut it off at that point usually 😂. Youre awesome man keep up the good work!
Isles dynasty was something. It left you wanting more yet leaves you wishing you could go back to early '80's once again to enjoy dynasty. And leaves you in disbelief it's been 41 almost 42 years since that last cup. In the meantime18 teams have lifted the cup since isles last lifted the cup. 4 of them didn't even exist last time isles won cup. And it makes you wonder if isles will ever win a cup-again... Will i ever see an isles cup again? And one so-called expert hack says he doesn't think louzer will actually deal 8 by tdl so louzer may be blowing smoke up their asses with 8 trade talk. So expect more re-sign 29 b s as louzer does nothing as isles came back down to earth over weekend. Fkn louzer makes me long for bow tie days once again.
One of the worst run organizations in organized sports. Even the jets are finally trying to turn it arohnd
That’s how bad the islanders are at grooming the youth in Bridgeport for the big team. This team is in a bigger mess than we think. These small winning streaks are hiding that and only fueling the fool on the hill Lou to stay put. I honestly can say if Lou is still manager next year I’m putting all my isles stuff away and I’m finished. I cannot spend the rest of my life watching this and have owners who just don’t care. I hope he’s gone but if not I will be done. I made up my mind at the beginning of this season. Only thing I’ll have to do with the islanders is Locked on Islanders. Other than that I’m done.
Very good call Gil, it’s a known fact the islanders have absolutely no player Depth at all, hopefully it’s figured out who is wanted and unwanted before the Trade deadline thanks Gil 👍🏼
It's frustrating Raymond. Keep in mind, they already had to bring in 3 defensemen from outside the organization before this happened. They have nobody who they feel is ready and can contribute and that's not pretty. Thanks for the comment and LGI
I never thought say this, Patrick Roy was wrong for even playing Chulowski in the 1st place.
Who would you have dressed instead, Cindy? Thanks for the comment and LGI
@@LockedOnIslanders You're right. Gil. He should've had a backup plan if he was going scratch Chulowski.
Hi Gil! We gave away the game against the Wild. My take is that we are getting the puck out of our zone so much more effectively, there is more speed and creativity. We weren’t getting that with the other guys-even the Pp looks creative and sharp, regardless of the lack of production. Gil I mentioned without Dobson we would be better. Dobson and Mayfield were consistently getting pinned and giving it away ((although May was finally playing better) I’m ready go say goodbye to both --make a blockbuster with the Canucks and change the trajectory of this franchise. Mayfield is wanted by the Leafs, Nelson is wanted all the same. Palmeri has drawn interest. It’s criminal to want to sign a 34 year old to 3 years--for where this team is at--it’s just shocking and so irresponsible, unless he’s doing this to up the ante some. Gil, it seems this will never end! Watch Nelson and Palmeri get extended--it’s insanity! The goal is to make a deal to better this team and set them up for a brighter tomorrow--signing Nelson is just not in this team’s best interest. It’s out of our hands Gil--we are at the mercy of a Gm that wants to win it today and he’s the only one that does not comprehend that this group is simply not good enough. Take care my Islander friend-many of us needed this break badly. It’s been a very stressful season.
We are at the whim of Lou unless ownership steps up and realizes that Lou's approach isn't working or wise. Moving on from as many of these older players as possible while there is interest in them and we can get a big return makes a lot of sense. Their value will only go down going forward. It's very frustrating to watch this unfold year after year. Thanks for the comment, Frankie. Hoping for the best in the next month. LGI
Hey Gil - I know we spoke on here last week about the Isles lack of goaltending depth and it def showed on Saturday as a tired Sorokin had to play back to back because Skarek is not NHL ready and so maybe even with a tired team a rested quality backup goalie could of stole 1 or even 2 points but instead we got nothing. That being said I just read that ownership is letting Lou do everything player related including stuff with our UFA's and this is a complete kick in the teeth as a fan. Scott Malkin and John Ledecky so far just built a new rink and then are letting a horrible landlord run the place into the ground and I'm sure his insane philosophy on how he likes the way this team is made up will lead to another horrible contract for Nelson complete with a NTC for too much term and too much money for an older player just like he's done with mostly all our defenseman and Engvall to add the cherry on the top. Our owners need to first have a goal in mind and second put their foot down and say enough is enough here.
Ownership needs to step up and prevent Lou from doing more damage and keeping this team in the muddy middle. Will it happen? I hope so, but I'll believe it when I see it. Nelson can't be re-signed for more than 2-3 years max and even then, it's not what's best for the long-term health of the franchise. And Nelson will easily get more than 3 years on the open market as a UFA. Thanks for the comment, ssbouncer31. LGI
This team is held together with bailing wire and chewing gum. But there are some good pieces. We can see from Chicago Buffalo. That a total tear down is not the way to go. Look to Washington. Move one or two pieces. Get a return. Make some cap space. 3or 4 better players would do wonders
That's why I've advocated for retool, not rebuild. However, if the Isles miss this opportunity to retool with the contracts ending for Brock, Palms and one year later, Lee and Pageau, a long rebuild will be thrust upon the team. Thanks for the comment, MichaelSr-sp5pw. LGI
Hi Gil. Since the Super Bowl was yesterday and the Isles PP overall stinks, I wish they were able to decline the penalty (like in football) and stay even strength! LET THE REBUILD BEGIN
If only they could decline penalties. The PK has been better lately, but the PP remains inept. Thanks for the comment, matthewcamera9483. LGI
We knew that our prospect pool was terrible with how many 1st rd picks this guy lou has given away in the last 4yrs
Yeah, but to not even have a guy who you trust to play a game or two when injuries hit is pretty bad. Thanks for the comment, corylennon2964. LGI
sit the fuck down duclair we dont need a half hurt guy playing out there
Good morning team! Gil, I almost had to laugh at DeAngelo's play. A few years ago, I played on a club team as a defenseman. I had an own goal, very similar to DeAngelo's. I can tell, from that experience, he must have felt about that big (my thumb and four finger are as tight as they can touch). We can all agree, it was a tough weekend. What makes it a bit worse, we were in both these games, and could have won both, and at the very least, split these games. Time to get back on it. Don't have much more to say about this weekend except, let's enjoy some of this time off. Maybe some injured players can make their way back. Everyone, have a great day! See you all again tomorrow. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
I hope the break allows guys like Duclair to heal and be ready to return after the break. The team was in both games but these were tough opponents, especially Winnipeg. Thanks for the comment, Tony. LGI.
Hey buddy, losing these 2 games solidifies the fact that this team is not playoff bound. They need to go 19-7 good luck, wake up owners, time to release Lou for his failure to improve this team which I love...
They are a long shot to make the playoffs with all these teams in the mix and the injuries being a big factor. Let's see if Lou and ownership figure it out. Thanks for the comment, jimerrigo7142. LGI
Hey Gil your intro is a bit different you usually mention a sponsor.
If we have a sponsor, I mention one. Thanks for the comment, christophercancel934. LGI.
Good 🌄, Gil. How are you? This was a very disappointing weekend. I was hoping that the Islanders would come out of this with one win. Friday 🌙 game was solid until the 2nd period collapsed, even though they stayed with the Jets. Marc Gatcomb keeps proving that he belongs in the NHL. Saturday 🌙 in MN, they just weren't there. Tony D'Angelo had an ugly 🌙. He has to be more efficient, AND THAT GOES FOR EVERYBODY ELSE. OFFENSIVELY AND DEFENSIVELY. Hero, Tony D'Angelo for 2 own goals, being on the ice for three goals ugly 🌙 all around. Marc Gatcomb and scoring a goal. Anthony DuClair, too. Now, with the 4 Nations Tournament is underway, the walking wounded will hopefully get better. Patrick Roy made a big mistake by playing Dennis Chulowski for way less than 5 minutes, especially with all the injuries on the blue line. I get what they had to go through after Winnipeg, but you've to pick and choose. They should bring back Isiah George. Barzy went under the 🔪 for a minor procedure, and he'll be out for 4 to 6 weeks. HAPPY 🎂, STEVE KONROYD. A defensive defenseman, he set up the Trots, the legend, and got a goal and 3 assists in 8-4 win scorching of the 😈. Hear from you later, Gil. I'm currently 👀 the Islanders inject some venom into the Maple 🍁, and in Game 4 of the Semifinals against those dreaded Rangers, Mike Bossy Hughes straight after Hughes punched him dead in the face. He not only got revenge his way by scoring on the PP, but called him that I'm censoring. I read his lips. Also, when a beach ball went around the Garden, #18 said that's what the Rangers will be playing with all ☀️. Now, LET'S GO ISLANDERS.
Yes, Bossy got the best revenge: living well. The weekend was a disappointment. I don't get not playing Cholowski for even three minutes. Why bother to dress him at all? Thanks for the comment, Cindy. Always great to hear from you and LGI.
@LockedOnIslanders You're welcome, Gil. Hear from you tomorrow.
Hello Gil love the show. I would like to know your take on what you think lou will do before the deadline you think he'll part with dobson for a player like pettersson or probably not
I would say probably not but I would never say never. Lou won't want to part with Dobson and it would take a huge offer to change that. Thanks for the comment, corylennon2964. LGI
Ross Colton I feel would be a better pick up from the aves. 28 years, UFA in '27, won SC with Tampa.
Not sure he's available, but I like the logic. Thanks for the comment, brainbusterprowresting4691. LGI
Zegras!
I would love to see a scorer like Zegras added. Not sure if the Ducks will ever make him available. He's been rumored to be traded for a couple of years now. Thanks for the comment, brainbusterprowrestling4691. LGI
We should look to dump Duke if we can. One for One for anyone would be an upgrade at this point. Move away from Dobs, Parm, and Nelson. If we get some hungry players that could just be the joint we need to keep us in the PO picture.
Duclair is playing through an injury. If he's healthy, I think he can be productive. Palms and Nelson must be moved but Lou will probably try to extend one or both. It won't be dull around here. Thanks for the comments, brainbusterprowrestling4691. LGI.
A disappointing weekend, but expected. Playing 2 very good teams and on the road, I'm not surprised with the results. But the NHL is about winning, not just making a good showing. Mathematically the Islanders are still in the mix, but in reality, the Islanders are not making the playoffs. PP is the worst in the league. Has any team ever made the playoffs with the league's worst PP? Probably not. Lou needs to trade, at the very least, every pending UFA and get assets in return. I couldn't care less about the 4 Nations tournament. Hopefully Brock doesn't get hurt though.
I understand the lack of interest in 4 Nations. I also agree that the Isles won't likely make the playoffs. Too many teams in the way and injuries. Thanks for the comment, Another_User_Name_. LGI.
Lou stole any hope & confidence I had in Isles. Until ownership provides renewed hope w/new GM, iy will comtinue. Doesn't look like he's going to do right thing & sell.
Lou typically keeps things quiet. We'll see what happens. He should be selling, but he probably wants to buy. Thanks for the comment, FREEDOMFUNADVENTURE. LGI
WILL THE REAL ISLES PLEASE STAND UP. Isles come back down to earth with 3 L's in 4 games going into break. Overmatched by a contender jets team and a better mild team who spotted isles a 3-1 lead before winning going away. A taxed 30 couldn't save isles on weekend road trip. 4 was not good and -3 vs. mild, 34 -2. Good thing 30 gets a two week bye thanks to russia no go. Isles still 4-5 pts. out of w c with 4-5 teams to pass. And the hot rumours are louzer will re-sign 29 and has put 8 up for trade. Louzer must be scared off of the rfa deal 8 must want-probably looking at $8, $9, $10mil.x 8 per deal with cap going up. And louzer must be getting a lot of calls on 8 and has id'd 8 as his biggest trade chip for scoring help. One rumour-8, 13 to casucks for petey, willander, second. As if. If 13, 8 were dealt to casucks petey, boeser must come back. That would give isles the scoring punch they need. Maybe louzer is contemplating 8 for marner deal if laffs can't re-sign marner? Stars as well with heskinan out. Maybe nill has 8 interest? Stay tuned.... louzer has two weeks to sit in his nice comfy chair and contemplate things. One thing is obvious-louzer will never sell-off for assets and would rather re-sign 29 and make a player(s) for player(s) trade if the 8 and 29 rumours are true.
Dobson is not worth $8 million or more per year. He is a big time defensive liability. He'll get it though. There still could be a bridge deal that would keep him here another 2-3 years, but we'll see. As for Nelson, signing him to an extension makes very little sense unless it's 3 years at most and even that would not be the best asset management for the long term. Get the best return for your assets. Heck, you can trade Brock and re-sign him over the summer if you really want to and get the best of both words but Lou won't do that. Thanks for the comment, Steven. LGI
Trade trade everyone power play stinks
The PP is a big problem. Thanks for the comment, mikeybombrers2529. LGI
Gil one thing this channel never talks about… we know a cup run this year unreasonable no Barzal no Dobson and especially no backup down the stretch for sorokin. So deal palms and Brock but we can do that and sign Brock back in offseason and still get picks for him if Lou wants to keep Brock so badly!
I have mentioned it a few times. Better than letting him leave for nothing or just re-signing him. Thanks for the comment, foleydvm. LGI.
I hope Hellebuyck plays like that for team USA next week... lol
Me too, Fran11784. It would give Team USA a chance to win the tournament. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
Also the cup is there's this year unless they win the president's cup hahaaa
Winnipeg or the Islanders? LOL. Thanks for the comment, corylennon2964. LGI
They played amazing that team is insane how fast they move the puck
They are the best team in the league or close to it. Thanks for the comment corylennon2964. LGI
Lous boys killing it on the PP
Oh yeah. Thanks for the comment, chrisferrandino9563. LGI.
I can’t be mad, they played well and our young guys looked good. On to the next one!
Solid effort, but they lost to a better team. Thanks for the comment, Klb818. LGI
Best team in the league, the islanders scored 3 goals, and played hard put in a 100% effort, Great Game for Sorokin, no player should hang their heads, LGI 👍🏼
Agreed, Raymond. Thanks for the comment and LGI.
We need to get younger and faster via trade or by acquiring draft capital, I just hope Lou can figure something out before the trade deadline to accomplish this. Have a great weekend Gil LGI
I hope he will, too, Darrell, but with Lou, I believe it when I see it. Maybe he'll give us all a pleasant surprise. Thanks for the comment. Have a great weekend and LGI.
Talks way to slow.
Who does? Thanks for commenting.
MM should have retired last year. To dress him to play 5 minutes a game is stupid. You need to be able to roll 4 lines.
I agree, but Lou signed him and now he isn't even playing. Lou is gonna Lou. Thanks for the comment, nyisles87. LGI
IT IS BAD BUSINESS IF HE IS NOT TRADED. Brock has been a fantastic NYI, but there is a market for his services and the team needs to take advantage because the team is sorely lacking in young talent. You cannot make the same mistake twice.
Spot on nyisles87. Brock has been a great Islander and I like him as a hockey player. But it's in the team's best interests to move him for as big a package as they can get. Thanks for the comment and LGI
@ it's somewhat comparable to JT, but not really. People have JT PTSD because he was the face of the franchise and people thought that he would re-sign when LL was hired and they offered him a $91M contract. Two very different situations, but the team needs to operate in its own self-interest.
To begin with, Brock Nelson is a ten year man, he determines where he goes, I'm absolutely certain he's coming home to finish his career The question is when, this year or next The way the Islanders are playing Lou may not trade him if they get in playoff position Denny from Locked on Wild
Hi Denny and thanks for commenting on LO Islanders. You're in good hands with Seth over at LO Wild. As for Nelson, we'll see what happens at the trade deadline. If he hits free agency, coming home to Minnesota would certainly be attractive for him. The Wild will also have more cap space next season. But, they would have to compete with the other teams in free agency and the price may be higher. We'll see. The worst thing from an Isles perspective is for the team to lose him for nothing (or to sign him to a long extension of more than 3 years). The next six months won't be dull. Great to hear from you.
Good morning team! Gil, I have to admit. I'm not a fan of the trade rumors, also no a fan of players leaving the team without a return. Brings up Tavares feelings again. When Nelson comes back to play us, I don't want to boo him when he has the puck. We can't let him test free agency. If that is the plan, then we need to trade him for at least a prospect and a pick. I too was doing some digging into the Jets. They are a pretty scary team on paper, and on the ice. Like you said, goaltending is elite, top notch scoring lines, sound defense as well. We absolutely need to stay out of the box tonight, even though the PK has been better of late. Anxious to see how our 5 on 5 play is with this team. If we can't hang, then no harm done, it was probably expected. If we give them a game, and possibly stay even, then WOW! As long as we're in the game, that's all I'm looking for. If we can somehow generate our own degree of luck, then who knows. I'm a HUGE believer in anyone can win against anyone else. Needles to say, I'm very much looking forward to this one and the Wild on Sunday. Everyone, have a great day and weekend! Enjoy the games. See you all again Monday. Until then.. Let's Go Islanders!!
Should be a good challenge tonight, Tony. I also don't want to see Brock booed if he returns. I think the reason Tavares is booed is not because he left but because of the way he left. Lou cannot afford to lose Brock for nothing and if he extends him, it has to be 3 years at most, preferably two. He can get more years as a free agent. We'll see how it all plays out. Thanks for the comment Tony. Have a great weekend and LGI.
Put Martin instead of Engvall, as Engvall is a complete waste!
I also think Engvall should sit. Martin should play against bigger, more physical opponents at least. Thanks for the comment, mrjghoward. LGI
