Guys, you've got this! In the long run it doesn't matter how long this project takes, its the journey getting there that counts and by the end of it you will not only have an amazing caravan, but you will have learned skills you would not normally have needed or wanted to have learned. It's all a part of the fun of life and some cracking stories to tell the little one once they are in the world at large!

Between Leah's style and the interior of the trailer, it almost feels like watching soon-to-be parents getting ready to have our generation back in the day! Glad for the curtain win and little by little, it will transform!

That’s so upsetting to hear that so many people are telling you to give up. I am renovating my childhood camper from 2005 (not nearly as cool as yours) but being able to save something from a landfill and customize it to be everything I have ever dreamed of is way better then getting a poorly made, overpriced newer camper. I’m so excited to watch this project progress! Much love from Alberta❤️

Levi with an RV that is so old you need to check all the pipes, wiring and propane lines. All are so old, and if you can get them to work that once you move the RV, things with break and can be deadly. I’m sorry to say this but its so true. I would spend a lot of time watching videos on restorations of RVs so you can learn what needs to be done. Please be careful!

I’m definitely NOT one of those that think you should return or sell it. I’m super excited to see the progress. Yes, I find it crazy you’re doing this while getting also ready for a baby but come on you both are always doing unexpected things and crushing things. Hello, you guys just came from travel North America in a CAR and you came back with a baby. Also, the images of Dad and Levi on the floor should be the thumbnail

A good investment might be a fiber optic inspection camera, they usually aren’t that expensive and work with an app on your phone. You can fish it down pipes and into areas you can reach (and it has a light as well.)

It is a pain fixing things, but there is a lot to learn! Those accomplishments feel so great and will give you confidence on the road. UA-cam is a great teacher. Leah, I have sewn for years and I still swear at my sewing machine, especially when bobbins fall on the floor and roll away.

You guys can do this! It might be more expensive than you initially anticipated but you can do it. Just remember to check everything backwards and forwards. For example, be sure to check all the surface level stuff front to back and back to front and every which way before going any layers deeper. If you’re going to mess with any more electrical, I would invest in a non-contact voltage tester or a digital multimeter to see if things are even live. I honestly thought the bulbs were just burnt out but luckily no! For the water issue, I wouldn’t be surprised if a pipe is busted under there or disconnected at some point since the water is obviously not coming back out where it should be. I would follow the water, if you can, to where it’s coming out of when you do it in the reverse way. You’ll likely find your issue there. Or, as someone else mentioned, get a manual or do some digging online to see if it’s been winterized. You don’t want water in your pipes or anywhere at all in the winter because they’ll bust so it’s likely Robert could’ve put it in that mode. Or maybe he didn’t, there was water, it got to be winter and a pipe busted. Where did all the water go that you tried to pump in is more of my question and could possibly be the reason why there are odd spots of water damage in the trailer. Remember, as others have mentioned, there is no shame in calling in a professional for things are more technically advanced, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have a professional come out and give it a look. I would especially advice that once you get into electrical since it can be more dangerous if you are not confident in what you’re doing. Safety first!

Guys, with any vehicle renovation there are some things that you have to pay someone else to do, usually electric and plumbing. Hire a plumber! Also, is there anything like a Haynes manual for that trailer? Check libraries and stuff, there should be a guide somewhere that tells you everything about how everything works

You want a composting toilet. If you plan to boondock, which it seems is what you enjoyed the most about your tour of North America, you will be able to go longer where you are and you won’t need as much water which is more sustainable especially in a desert area. Also less odor. Also you won’t have to pay to dump your tanks.

Keep a bottle of water in the bathroom. You can flush the toilet by pouring a little water down it. (If the lines to your black tank aren't blocked.) If you don't want to mess with that, set a trash bag inside the toilet bowl and use it like a bucket toilet. Didpose of the used bags in a public restroom. 😊

Leah, had you just opened the hem on the long side of the ones that matched the width you wouldn't have had to sew anything! You could have slid the cord through the hem and bam! Done! If I can offer advice, when you take something down, use painters tape to mark where it came from ie the cords for the curtains, that way you would have the right cord to go to the right window without having to measure them against each other to see what fits where. When you do the seat covers, skip the zippers and use velcro instead. Did you flip the pump switch on once it was full to see if that's why the water wasn't working?

  • @ChristianBehnke
    @ChristianBehnke 10 місяців тому +1

Keep it up! It will be very rewarding when you're done, but yes - it will take time, effort, blood, sweat, and tears. The RV reno community is large, so ask lots of questions but more importantly, check the results of those who are offering advice - I've seen people with no experience renovate camper trailers, do a questionable job, then tell others what to do when it's not always the best solution.

Are owners manuals available online? Or on eBay? That could really help you out. 😊

I feel that parenting is a lot about emotional regulation. This trailer is definitely preparing you for that! :-) Btw did you give a name to the trailer? (Like you did with Earl?)

Haha that’s true! We haven’t named the trailer! Earl didn’t work out so well so maybe we need to not name this one? 😬😅

are you sure that is where the tank fills from? I have had trailers - none as old as yours, but still, the city water usually is higher up and a bigger hole (and if you are hooked up to city water, there is a adapter to leave the hose in place. Also, have you tried to find a manual online for this? if it is vintage, there might be online groups.

More advice - the first thing we did when we bought a trailer was to replace all the lightbulbs to LEDs. When you are living off battery, you will be grateful.

DON’T LISTEN to the people telling you to sell it. You SO got this. If it were me, I would literally eyeball the water line from tank to sink. My gut says that thing under the toilet isn’t a water line. If it is though, you could cut the whole fitting out, and replace it with a valve. But once you cut it out could blow air through it….

I get it, ... ... nah I'm lying I do not get it. But different kinds of humans make the world an interesting place. I myself would go online over research to be sure I buy the newest nicest RV or camper van I can find. Then again my idea of roughing it is a 2.5 star hotel, so being in an RV or van for more than two night would be like a captive hostage situation. Y'all on the other hand are humans who like a challenge. You can sleep in them streets, well in them woods, or wherever and think a day filled with the challenge of figuring out a fixer upper is a good thing. And hey it's entertaining to watch.

Not sure about your trailer but most trailers have a city connection for a hose to connect to, this just runs off city pressure. There should be a another place to fill your water tank and this is where the water pump get the water from when your not hooked up. As for the negative comments, everybody has to learn some how. I know people that bought brand new trailers and didn't fill their holding tank properly the first time.

The problem with old trailers everybody has changed stuff because you can't find old stuff that works or it's to expensive. Hang in there my first RV was a motorhome and it had some issues but you will figure it out.

🤔 well not to be contrary, but depends. For example, lots of older products were built differently than today. Currently, we live in an economy that makes things get broken faster, sometimes older items including clothes are made better. I think that’s the reason why people prefer to buy older stuff because they know that if they put some work on them they’ll last longer than a new item. I have seen it happen a lot lately even with houses. Also Sharon this trailer is not cheap made all contrary. Yes, old but not cheap

I agree too, they aren’t really helping the environment because they have to gut it anyway & replace so they are consuming more parts and wasting so much time . They like renovating small spaces they can save it for their apt . Or their baby needs. Also by doing this they make more content for schmucks like us to watch & they earn more money!!!😂
