@@JeremiahSmiith this isn't remotely uncommon for sprinters or athletes from other sports. Nothing wrong with him not fitting the mold for jolly distance runners
4:28, Ingebrinsten’s logic makes complete sense. If his goal is to become the GOAT, he’ll need to tackle the shorter distances earlier in his career before he loses his speed.
I think he wants to run the 1500m when he's young as long as he can because that's "his favorite event" and then move on to the longer stuff like 10k half marathon later in his career.
Jacob has been injured, what do you expect from him? As for the trash talking kerr is the king of this...Jacob is just responding...HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR THE OLYMPIC CHAMPION
I've been involved in Athletics since the age of 10. So over 50 years during which I've competed nationally and internationally and also Coached. This situation is simple: Jakob is making statements of intent. He wants to achieve the status of being "the top runner of all time" etc statements. He even lists what he thinks his body is best at. That's why he has listed events he hasn't even competed in... YET. Half marathon, 10,000m etc. So, he will either achieve those goals/objectives... or he won't. That is how he wants to be judged. It's not based on what others are attempting to do. But Josh Kerr is the one running his mouth in trash talk. Attempting to play the sports psych "game" that really only is an attempt to prop up their own insecurities. Oh, it can work on weaker minded runners. I used it myself: getting into the heads of some runners can be easy if you know what their fears are. LOL You know... asking if they are ok because it looks as if they are limping. Is their ankle ok (if you know they have had ankle problems or cramping problems etc) Offering them help or suggestions about getting massaged or whatever. Believe me, it works. Their Coaches would often freak out if we were warming up in the same area. "Ignore him. Don't listen to him. Tell him to go away" LOL. Asking them if they feel tired and telling them they look gaunt: perhaps they need more energy bars cause they look to get through this semi! Perhaps they need more sleep? LOL. The reality is that Track athletics is really two phased. There are World Record attempts backed by numerous pacemakers and sometimes "guiding lights", all aimed at creating the best conditions/situations to run the fastest times to break the world records. Guys like Jakob thrive on these. Then there are Championship events, the pinnacle of which is the Olympics, where TIMES DON'T MATTER: the winning (Gold) is everything. So, NO pacesetters, No light guides, plus also a need to get through often, Heats, Quarters, Semis, then the Final. This is taylor-made for the "sitter" type of runner. One who has managed to get to the final but never "pushes the pace" and waits for the last lap (or last 200m) This is what best suits runners like Josh Kerr. Jakob generally lacks the explosive speed of an 800m runner so, when in a slower race, he is heavily disadvantaged. This is why he has no real choice and must either hope some suicidal runner takes the lead and ensures a very fast pace that will blunt the 800m runners, or take the lead himself. But that, of course, means that he is now the sacrificial goat for the "sitters" to take advantage of. We have already seen this happen a couple of times with Jacob in Championship events, where he has been "run down" in the finishing straight, normally in the last 50 meters. These Olympics will be very, very, interesting.
I don’t agree it’s Kerr driving the trash talk - it’s Kerr reacting to an arrogant show-boating Ingebrigtsen who is basically saying “you ain’t seen nothing yet - I’m beating the world at my weaker events”. Yeah, I think a few Kenyans might be ready to put him right on that.
Andreas Almgren is a 1500m / 5000m runner, he crushed the Swedish record in his 10k debut by 30 seconds. Then he ran the half mararhon in his debut and run in 59:22... Crushing the swedish record with 2min(!), a few seconds from the EU record. Now he's aiming for sub 27min in the 10k in a US race. He said with a better pacing and leas wind he could have got sub 59. Jacob would obviously beaten Almgren, so he would sure be close to the world record already. Almgren currently have the swedish recors in 1500m, 3000m, 5000m, 10k, 21k (and all time 3rd 800m from his early days...)
4:17 Makes perfect sense to me. Those longer distance events are often slanted towards more seasoned runners while the speed you need for the 1500m does decrease with age. Start small and move up with your body’s current abilities.
Who knows how it’s going to go. I don’t even know how his training has been going as of late. When is he going to start racing? Is he completely over his injury? We don’t know these things, so, without knowing them, how could we even guess?
Many of us are tired of these insidious and stupid comments. Athletes are valued for what they do on the track, not for their statements. And journalists and commentators must mature once and for all.
The half-marathon thing shouldn't be surprising! Ask anyone to define threshold pace and they'll probably say "It's the pace you could hold for an hour". So Jakob mostly trains at half-marathon pace for the entire year. He only does 1500m sessions in the summer. When he was still a teenager his dad said he could break 60 in the half.
I like Jakob Ingebrigsten and I respect the dedication he has to becoming the best ever. I hope he can achieve it. I just wish he would be more respectful towards others
i think he needs to get over himself hes leaving himself vulnerable a guy that failed in his last 2 attempts to win a major gold shopuldnt be pressurising himself like he is, especially with a real challenge out there, i just think Brits are more into the banter whereas its totally out of character fot Jakob
He said the longer distance is what he is suited to based on physiological testing. It doesn’t mean he has trained specifically for the longer events yet.He said he just loves the 1500 even if he isn’t really suited to it and he said you can only do the 1500 when you are young so he will focus on 1500 now just for fun and then when he is older and in his prime he will train for distances that he is best suited to 5k, 10k, half and really destroy them. After that he looks forward to being the best marathoner. So when you say why doesn’t he try to break half marathon world record now, well I hope that answers your question TRP.
He has to get the shortest races first before he’s too old. The half marathon will still be there for him in 10 years. His 1500m window is closing soon. Anaerobic performance peaks at age 23 on average
We have to remember he's from Norway. I'm guessing a lot of his attitudes stem in large part from cultural roots. Compare his supposed brashness/insularity with another great Norwegian champion, Magnus Carlsen. I doubt it's intended to be especially rude (perhaps a teensy bit?), but for someone not used to that culture it could come off that way.
I think he's doing the right thing by deferring his 10k and half-marathon racing till later in his career. History has shown I believe that the longer the distance, the older you can be and still sustain peak peformance. Let him race track for another 5 years and then switch to road. I'm really looking forward though to the Jacob/Ker/Naguse/etc showdown in Paris!
Jakob is going to win. The athletes do respect each other. Josh did seem frustrated since Tokyo. But now with his recent winning performances he is flying high.

But why would anyone put down a Non-Championship event like the half-marathon? Half marathon? 😂😂😂😂 When?
Dude, he obviously is focused on shorter distances right now. Pretty much what most runners do when they are younger.
He's trained like a half-marathoner his whole career. He loves the 1500m but his training naturally prepares him better for longer events.
Josh Kerr is just as arrogant as Noah Lyles!!
Jakob > 1 Parsec > Talkerr
JK will beat him. I wouldn't be surprised if Nordas or Beamish beats JI in the 1500m too
Ingebrinsten comes across as very salty. Kerr is way cooler.
Making stories out of nothing.... The tittle tattle article.... Who are all these people that dislike him then ? Emotive words "slamming"
I think Ingebrigtsen likes to say stupid ish just to see how many media outlets report it. He can't run right now, so it's a great way to steal the spotlight from his competitors without being on the track. Next he'll be saying he runs a 10.9 100m dash and is faster than Usain Bolt. 🤣
Ingebritsen is a tremendous athlete.
Unfortunately his fanatics are a cancer in athletics.
