Using my bow when I'm in a band setting is one of my favorite things to do. In this video, I talk about the things I like to keep in mind when playing in this setting that help me enhance the music.

Coming from a classical Indian background you’re more than correct. Valuable.
That was pretty cool Lauren!
yea i'm currently realizing that I tend to over play when i'm in an orchestra/pop setting :-l
sometimes we spend so much time how to play the instrument with freedom, that we don't think about how our sound blends in an ensemble!! Love this video!!
Tremendous advice! Last year I had the opportunity to play doublebass in a band and it was amazing. You know there's a strong connection between the bass and the singer. Many times I played with a guitarrist only and the lower octave of the instrument so as the higher adds an incredible blend and a particular touch to everything.
+Rowan Puig Davis That's great! I agree with you about complimenting the guitarist and/or singer.
You bought a cool black bow.
Some good advice there Lauren! I've played a lot accompanying singers (mainly woodwind but sometimes cello) and can second all of that. One other thing though, special to the bass (or other low register instrument) when you go really low you get perilously close to the bass line (presumably being played on an electric bass or similar) and close intervals can sound muddy or dissonant, even when they theoretically should fit, so whenever I go low I try to either double the bass (no pun intended) or at least stay out of its way.
YOU,... are adorable : )
