Really helpful! I'm doing this because I'm about to turn 16 and I've begun my study for my future career. It's really special to me to do this, to have something there to remind me that 'Hey you don't need to be perfect at this because you are only a padawan. You are still learning' May the Force be with you.
I love this mentality! I think I'm going to do the same thing: braid myself and take it down for good when I finish my studies (in 4 years I think). I will also resume sports and my hobbies, this braid will be like a promise to myself not to give up. Thank you for your comment, it made me think!

I made a braid yesterday and wore it today for the first time in public. I made the open part at the end loger than usual, kind of similar to Obi-Wan as a padawan. At first I was a bit nervous how people would react, but I got a lot of positive feedback, so thank you for the video! It really helped me a lot! (especially 'cos I'm a boy with really long hair and I've never done a braid before ;-))
That's awesome! I'm so glad I could help! I wore my braid out in the open for two years. I had one friend who thought it was stupid but most people either ignored it, didn't notice, or thought it was cool. I hope you got good reactions too! May the Force be with you
This was SO helpful ❤️❤️ I’ve been growing mine for about 2 years and I’ve always wanted to add some bands but had no idea how I’d go about it, thanks to this I’ve done it successfully! THANK YOU! made my dreams come true
My braid is a lot shorter than my hair (I’m a girl) and I want to keep growing it out but my mom doesn’t want me to. She doesn’t understand Star Wars and my obsession with it. I’ve just avoided a haircut so she doesn’t make me cut it. I never wear my braid down though. I always just put it in with my ponytail which I wear everyday. I am not super confident with it yet but I love it anyway. For my wrapping I only have one at the bottom as I read somewhere what you don’t get the second wrapping until you are a certain age/ a certain number of years into training. I have tiny tiny rubber bands from my braces (unused) and put that on the end first, making sure it lays flat as I can get it. Then I wrap my colored thread over it. Haha, this comment is so long.
I understand feeling like you need to hide it. I hid mine for 4 years and only told my parents about it when I decided to cut my hair short and wanted to keep it long. Fortunately my parents didn't care nearly as much as I thought they would, but they are also in to Star Wars. Don't worry, your confidence will grow with your padawan braid. I was extremely insecure about mine at first too and considered getting rid of it several times because I was so nervous about it. Over time, as I grew up, that faded and I came to love and embrace the uniqueness of it. Don't be hard on yourself for not being at that point yet. It's a process and, for me at least, the padawan braid symbolizes that process of growing up and learning to be yourself and not care what others think. That's an important part of becoming a Jedi ;). I wish you the best on your journey. May the Force be with you!
I just did my Padawan Braid yesterday from following this video! I did the colors after Anakin's Braid colors. He is one of my favorite SW characters! Great tutorial!
Thank you for making this video, my mom used this tutorial to follow the steps, while doing the padawan braid on me and now I finally have a padawan braid. Thanks, again. 😎😎😎😎😎😎👍
Thank you for making this! I've been getting back into the fandom recently and wanted a padawan braid. Your video was the first one that was comprehensive for my two braincells, so thank you, and may the force be with you. Also: I found that using small rubber bands, like the ones you can buy for the Rainbow Loom, work perfectly for this. I know they can be damaging for your hair in the long run, so I'm hoping to get to Hobby Lobby soon to buy some of the yarn!
Thank you so much 😊 I'm getting things ready for the opening of star wars Galaxy's edge at Disney world and I am nerding out over wanting to be a Jedi lol I'm 18 but a kid at heart!
That's awesome! I'm glad to help! I'm 19 and will never stop dressing up for every possible event! Never let people make you feel childish for the things you enjoy. Have fun in Disney World!
I don’t have the longest hair, I wanna say about two maybe three inches? So I don’t really know exactly how I would work out doing a nice looking braid where it doesn’t look wonky but I definitely will give this a try! I’ve been in the SW fandom for close to a year now (in august I believe is when I’ll be a full year) but I’ve wanted a braid only for about a few months. I shaved my hair down around January and I’m really bummed because I had pieces off the side that would have worked perfectly for a braid but I didn’t think about it then. Anyways, I’m definitely gonna try this out! This is a really cool video :))
I'm glad this video was helpful! When I first started I had short hair too, not as short as yours, but I remember when I got excited that the tips of my braid touched my shoulder. Maybe you could use this as a symbol of how far you've come or how long you've had it since you started with it so short. In a year or two when it's longer, you'll be able to look at it see how much it's grown.
@@rebeljedielf9952 Coming back after a year, I only recently started wearing my braid again! I've had it for about a month and my hair is still the same length as it was last year but i'm growing it out. Definitely committing to wearing my braid now XD
Hello, my first language is not in English, which was a bit complicated for me, but do you take it off every day? or do you leave it? do you bathe with it? Have you had any treatment or shampoo?
No, I leave it in my hair for anywhere from a week to three weeks at a time without taking it out. I bathe with it in and I just wash it with the rest of my hair with it still in the braid. I don't use any special shampoo, but the days I do take it out and redo it, I usually try to use a clarifying shampoo to get it really clean. For the most part, on a day to day basis, I just treat it like my regular hair. Hope that clarifies things.
Yes, the braid should start at your temple. I've met 4 people irl who have Padawan braids and they all started them at the back of their head above their neck.
so… i’ve been growing a padawan braid for almost a year now, and i’ve just realized i grew it on the wrong side :| i’ll just keep growing it bc it has emotional weight for reasons i’d rather not specify, but when i cut it off and start growing a new one i’ll do it the right way :)
Hi! The answer to this is a little complicated. In my experience, that section of hair actually became a little bit (about half an inch) longer than the rest of my hair after having the braid for around 3 years. When it's braided, this is not noticeable because the braid shortens the hair. I could only tell when I took it out to redo it. However, this was when I had virgin hair and was growing it out. My theory on why this happened is because the hair is more protected from damage when it's in the braid so it's less likely to get split ends or break off. Because of this, I would assume if your hair is damaged (bleached, dyed, or heat damage) this could become a little more extreme simply because damaged hair breaks off more. But if it bothers you, you can just trim the hair that goes in the braid to be equal to the rest of your hair. Hope this answers your question!
Great video, your very genuine and make it seems really fun to have a Padawan braid. I was looking for a rat tail video and this popped up and I honestly may switch it up to the padawan. You’re friends an idiot! Lol he is missing out on the fun, so that’s his prob. Lol.

Do you sleep with your braid still in or do you take it out?
I sleep with it in. I only redo it once a week to once every two weeks. It's fine to sleep, exercise, shower, etc. without taking it out.
