  • So, disclaimers first hehe...I don’t claim to be a drummer. I’m a singer songwriter and producer who sometimes has to lay down drums out of economic necessity. So there’s nothing fancy here lol..don’t flame me too hard. Second, before 16 hrs ago, I’d never touched a v-drum kit for more than 5 minutes at GC or something. But with Covid19 happening and my betrothed working from home, the Gretsch’s will be dormant for a while. Silence is golden. Here’s a cpl drums only demos and a little jam. All kits I tweaked from the Al Schmitt Decades SDX. First bit is repeated with a different kit just to show how crazy wide the palette is. Still need to tweak my hat settings a bit, and the mix here isn’t great. But, pretty excited for the potential and Toontracks and Al Scmitt really captured some lovely sounds. My only wish is that they’d do it another 12 times, with a couple smaller rooms in the mix.

God, decades is such a beautiful library.

It really is! Legacy of Rock is pretty nuts as well. I feel like whatever they learned from Decades has reset the bar. The quality and playability of those two is a substantial leap forward imo.

one question dude, so What preset did you use to work good the module? considering that SD3 doesn't have Toland TD27 in the list, did you use TD50 or TD25 as preset, How is the positional Sensing?

I started with the TD-50 preset and tweaked from there. This vid (and the Hansa vid I did) we’re done within a cpl days of getting the kit and SD3 so VERY early attempts. Once you dial the hat settings within the module and SD3, you’re generally in good shape with the 27. On Roots - Sticks, which is a bit older (guessing sd2) the mapping was a little funky. But easy to fix.

Are you using the Superior Drummer 3 stand along application here? Do you notice any latency? Thanks

If you set it up well, you can use SD3 without any latency

Hey would you say the 27kv is the best feeling e-kit you can get? I'm in your boat meaning I'm writing songs and want to use an e-kit essentially as a really good midi controller for record-ready recordings... But I'm guessing not even roland presets are gonna be that great.. Do you suggest getting this kit with superior drummer for proper sounding recordings? Thanks

Definitely SD3. I don’t use the Roland sounds at all. I’m a hack drummer only by necessity, so I wouldn’t be so bold as to say it’s the best feeling. But I haven’t had any issues with it. The hat is the biggest point of contention (for pretty much everyone) but this one does pretty well once you’ve dialed it in both in the brain and SD3. The new digital one looks amazing but…$$$$.

Nice sound, question, how did you connect the SD3 to the module ?? pc-module or did you pass thru an interface ?? what about latency ?? Best!

The Roland module has a USB port which carries midi. Running that to a Mac Mini directly. SD3 libraries are all installed on SSDs. No discernible latency for me.
