    Ok ok I'm old school. I pour my pintos onto a cookie sheet and seperate good from bad. Throw out the rocks and dirt and wash the good ones. If I dont, I can hear my mothers voice in my head reminding me "to do good work". Yes, I am well over 60 and the oldest daughter of a large family. But hey.....

      Dianna A same! My Mammaw used to tell me a few bad beans will ‘spoirl’ the pot!
      Also - I have never sorted through any decent size bag of beans and found less than a few rocks.

    It’s funny to watch how people sort through their beans from video to video. I do like my mom used to pour them out on the counter hold the co-owner to the edge of the calendar and sort through them and as I do I push the good beans into the colander and set the rocks and the bad ones off to the side to throw away later. I guess everybody was taught a different way but it’s just so funny to see all the different ways. I enjoy your videos so much I just found you this week. And I’m trying to catch up. I will be referring to you a lot this summer. I hope you do have some meals in a jar videos that you can. Would love to see that. Thank you for sharing and for your hard work.

    I use this method all the time! Love it! I will be using my hot water tap next time like you did. Cuts out the fuss! I usually add garlic and onion powder as well as cumin. It infuses the beans and even rinsed it still has the flavour. Mash and mix with a tiny bit of salsa and I put it on tortilla for bean burritos for school lunches

    • @wholesome.heartfelt
      @wholesome.heartfelt  7 років тому +2

      +Fattonzzz_&_Jenzzz I used to do that, but then I started using these beans for other things and the flavour was not wanted in them lol. But it does make it easy.
      Yes if your hot water tap gets hot then yes go for it. I used to boil the water then add it. Then we got a new water tank that makes the water stupid hot, so a big time saver. Lol I could make tea from it. Love it!!

    • @derpdee7912
      @derpdee7912 7 років тому +5

      HI, I just wanted to drop a note about using hot water for drinking or cooking from the tap.. Unless you have an on demand hot water heater, I myself, would not consume hot water from the tap. There is something called a sacrificial anode rod that dissolves over time to prevent corrosion of the tank.. Up to you of course, but not for me .. cheers on the vid.. I get the exact same beans and make mexican beans for burritos all the time 900g a week type thing. I always add the salt at the end but next time I will try it at the beginning. No salt is flat tasting beans ..

      first time i ever saw anyone post regarding hot water sediment. anybody who has drained their water tank...many people don't know how, and you see all the sediment from corrosion, you won't drink hot tap water. Same for when draining in sink and allowing item to come in contact with the water at the bottom. it is like trying to keep pool water separated. you cannot separate drained water from plumbing water once they come in contact with eachother. anyone who has opened their pipes under the sink would never let that water touch their food. Always keep food from touching the sink water when draining.

    I put a strip of bacon, salt, two slices of jalapeños and three drops of liquid smoke in mine.
    Turns out great. I’d do pepper but it might mess up the seal.
    Also would like to put in a head of garlic, but the high temps of canning would probably make it turn bitter.

      Okay ladies, I have a crazy question. I've also done no soak for quite a while now. Did a load in my AA today, and noticed that when I opened the canner, they were all "still going crazy". Waited a second, and took out the first pint. The volcanic noise and the water all evac'ing made me step back as I've never had that happen before. I waited until I hit zero, let the top sit there a few, everything. Any ideas?

      Let your friend 😉know that nothing bad will happen. The world will keep turning.
      ( please note none of that was sarcastic or mean. Said in good fun)
      We say hot water because the canner and the water in the canner is hot. So you by using hot water the jars will not go into shock. When they go into shock they can crack or even break.
      If you use cold water just start with a cold canner. That way everything can heat up at the same time.
      Hope that helps your friend.
