Hi Sherry, this is so true. I have been doing this for years. I think next year I am going to try using that saw shavings like what have. I also need to get a hose drip system set up. Great video. Thanks for sharing this. Be safe
Hello! Using the shavingd in the new beds, means I can just add compost right on top next year after they sink. I need some kind of drip system too.... sounds like a next year problem 😅 thank you my friend
Whatttt?! Why have I never heard of this before? So should you wait until they're around the size that yours are, or can/should it be done sooner? My oniins are smaller than yours! Thanks for this great tip!! 😊
You can do it sooner, but you run the risk of a hard wind blowing them over. Waiting until the are the size of mine will help them support themselves. 😀 my onions went through a few weeks, where I wasn't sure if they would make it, lol
I asked our local nursery if I should be putting wood chips on my garden like you have. That’s what another gardener on UA-cam said to do. She said to NOT do that because it would steal nitrogen from the soil??? I think she was just trying to get me to buy mulch. Your plants look beautiful and healthy. Mine, not so much. 😕 Any advice?
Hello! That's actually funny because the owner of our local nursery told my husband the same thing. 😆If they were mixed all the way through, I would agree, but they are on top. I've never had any issues with a lack of nitrogen. There are many gardeners that use wood chips on their gardens, but if your garden was lacking nitrogen, you could plant peas and beans throughout your garden for nitrogen. Or use an organic fertilizer. I give my garden a lot love. I call it my "me" time. I listen to an audio book and I water, weed, prune, deadhead, and just love it 🙂 my favourite fertilizer is Marphyl Organic liquid fertilizer found on Amazon. Thank you and Happy Gardening 😊
