    LOVE these plants! I grow them literally between rocks with sprinkle of dirt around them. ALSO my favorite plants to look at and have used them as a subject in my paintings. They are the first plants to show up in my Nova Scotia garden. I was given a few of these plants 10 years ago and continue to give the bulbs away when I can. I like that I can pick a few bulbs to use for making a tuna or egg sandwich without chopping into the bigger typical onions. I do not PULL out the mother plants but snip the recent growth with the new bulbs dangling and within days new growth starts to happen on the mother bulb still in the ground. They are the ever-ready plant that no critters nor bug desire to eat them. Thanks for a great video I can pass around to those who get the bulb abundance give way every year!

      Hello! They did amazing! I normally pull them and replant every 2 years so that I can slice up the bulbs and freeze them, but because my beds were new and I wanted to amend them, I decided to pull and replqnt this year. The new ones are already coming up. Do you live in Canada? If these new ones produce the little bulbs this fall, I will have some to share.

    I don’t find my anise hyssop to spread/self seed. It comes back every spring and mostly behaves in its space.. might need support as it gets taller and windy conditions. I’m going to harvest and dry some of mine today as well, for tea. I’ve currently got 2 mints, lemon verbena, lemon balm, sage and stevia air drying. A few herbs more to harvest and dry still!

    I planted asparagus crowns in the ground but they were getting choked by grass so I dug them up and put them in a large tall pot about the size or slightly smaller that yours. They've been growing for 20 years now. Just this year I finally put a pan under the pot and started watering and fertilizing and they are doing better than ever after 20 years. Second comment: And I forgot to mention that we never fertilized them for the first 20 years and rarely watered them. So the asparagus lived and produced some spears but not a lot per year. Now that we fertilized, put a pan under the pot and started watering there is far more growth than ever before. So the asparagus survived my poor gardening skills.

      @@GardeningintheNorthThank you kindly for the swift response! I do appreciate it. So basically…A single batch makes about one quart, or two pints, or four half pints, give or take. I have harvested most of the larger sets. I have about a batch and a half soaking. These take patience, yours turned out so nice I had to go for it. I cannot wait to try them. I hope to get back and let all here know how it went for me. • @GardeningintheNorth
      @GardeningintheNorth 23 дні тому

      Hello! I leave mine in the cabinet, even after opening. Once opened, they don't last long. Once the tomatoes are gone, I usually ditch the left over oil and spices. If I was making salad dressing and knew I would be using the tomatoes, I will use some of the oil. Likewise, if I'm making pasta and will be adding them to my pasta, I will use some of the oil to sauté veggies. For pizza, I scoop out tomatoes, spices and there is always oil on them. Yum! Keep in mind the tomatoes need to always be covered by the oil.

    Your garden is lovely Sherry! I'm on the east coast of Canada -- zone 6B and grow in a very small urban garden in raised beds and many containers. My sunflower seeds always have tiny holes in the ends with tiny worms -- I grow them for the beauty and for the birds :). Those " Shishito" peppers look like maybe a Poblano pepper? Definitely not Shishito -- they grow as skinny medium long peppers -- very prolific. This year I purchased Collard seed from a well known company- thought I'd try them, and grew turnips! LOL

      Thank you my fellow Canadian gardener! I grow the sun flowers for beauty and our chickens and for eating bugs 🤣 Turnips! Omg, well at least I got a pepper for a pepper 😂

      Thank you, my friend! This is definitely my favourite garden to date. I'm open to trying new things, but there's a hard no to bugs 🤣😂😅

    Thank you for the tour! There is a lot growing on in your garden! I’m intrigued by all the peppers you are growing! Klaus My new planting of walking onions has really started to grow now. My plan is to pull them up every year and cure. I will re plant in the fall at an eight inch spacing. I hope and think I can get really good sized bulbs that way!

      Thank you so much. The one veggie we eat the most is peppers! I plan on freezing and drying them! Great plan about the EWO. They seriously are my favourite perennial. Always producing, can be moved easily and there is always lots to share with friends and family!

      Hello! These onions are perennial for zones 3-10, so you would be good.

    I grow 20 Big Boy tomato plants every season... everyone tries to modify Big Boy and improve it, but fail... it's impossible to improve perfection... Big Boy is a classic...

      This is the tomato my dad grows too. That and a paste tomato. I try every year to get him to try a new variety 😅

    I asked our local nursery if I should be putting wood chips on my garden like you have. That’s what another gardener on UA-cam said to do. She said to NOT do that because it would steal nitrogen from the soil??? I think she was just trying to get me to buy mulch. Your plants look beautiful and healthy. Mine, not so much. 😕 Any advice?

    • @GardeningintheNorth
      @GardeningintheNorth Місяць тому

      Hello! That's actually funny because the owner of our local nursery told my husband the same thing. 😆If they were mixed all the way through, I would agree, but they are on top. I've never had any issues with a lack of nitrogen. There are many gardeners that use wood chips on their gardens, but if your garden was lacking nitrogen, you could plant peas and beans throughout your garden for nitrogen. Or use an organic fertilizer. I give my garden a lot love. I call it my "me" time. I listen to an audio book and I water, weed, prune, deadhead, and just love it 🙂 my favourite fertilizer is Marphyl Organic liquid fertilizer found on Amazon. Thank you and Happy Gardening 😊
