Amazing guitars mark Kendall great guitarist ,still making music,I seen great white in a club back in 1996 or 1997 it was amazing unfortunately the singer parted ways with the band they kicked him out but there was a court battle over the name so now there is great white and also jack Russell's great white
If you're loving the bluesy side of the band.. You need to hear House of Broken Love. Or total fun tracks like Once Bitten/Twice Shy. They're such a great band. Jack Russell is still sounding pretty good today.
Great White were a truly underappreciated rock band in the 80's and 90's... Their sound was more 'boogie blues' rock than arena rock like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi or Whitesnake... Great White did record a cover record of Led Zeppelin songs titled "Great Zeppelin" in 1998... but their original music was closer to the rock of ZZ Top, Foghat or Creedence Clearwater Revival... Seeing them live in concert, they sounded amazing, but not like an 80's 'hair' metal band... that set them apart from the other bands of the era. Unfortunately, original singer Jack Russell is no longer in Great White (he tours as "Jack Russell's Great White" nowadays) because he was struggling w/ addictions after 2010 and nearly died... the band refused to put him on tour unless he stayed clean & sober, and that led to a split. In 2003, a touring version of Great White (vocalist Jack Russell & guitarist Mark Kendall were the only ones from the old line-up there) were involved in a pyro incident that caused a fire at the Station nightclub that killed 100 people, including touring guitarist Ty Longley. That tragedy marred the band's musical legacy... Great White was formed in California in the 70's by Jack Russell (vocals) and Mark Kendall (guitar) w/ Lorne Black (bass) & Gary Holland (drums)... an EP in 1983 led to Great White's debut record in 1984, which was a commercial failure. Audie Desbrow (drums) joined the band and they recorded 'Shot in the dark' in 1986, which had a successful single 'Face the day' (a cover of The Angels) and Great White were signed by Capitol Records. Michael Lardie (guitar/keys) was a longtime collaborator, joined Jack Russell (vocals), Mark Kendall (guitar), Audie Desbrow (drums) and Lorne Black (bass) Great White got MTV exposure and their next album 'Once bitten' was a platinum success in 1987... Tony Montana (bass) joined the band for the next album 'Twice shy' was a even bigger hit, going 2X platinum in 1989... Great White explore more blues influences w/ their 1991 record 'Hooked' which went gold, but 90's 'grunge' rock was starting to take over... Tony Montana left the band. Great White's 1992 album 'Psycho city' was a great record, but failed to sell a half million copies... Great white was dropped by Capitol records. The band spent the 90's releasing more records, but were relegated to small venues... 'Sail away' (1993) was followed by 'Let it rock' (1996) and "Can't get there from here" (1999)... However, the band splintered in 2000 and went their separate ways by 2001. Jack Russell and Mark Kendall reunited Great White w/ session members to tour in 2002, but the Station nightclub fire ended their run... A few years later, the band reunited the classic line up - Jack Russell, Mark Kendall, Michael Lardie & Audie Desbrow... Sean McNabb (bass) was the bass player in 1999and he returned for a few years... Great White recorded the albums 'Back to the rhythm' (2007) and 'Rising' (2009) before their split w/ singer Jack Russell... Terry Ilous (vocals) & Scott Snyder (bass) were recruited to record the next album 'Elation' (2012)... followed by 'Full Circle' (2017)... Great White recently fired Terry Ilous and recruited Mitch Malloy on vocals.
Great history of the band. Thanks for that. I didn’t know Mark Kendall was in the lineup, the night of the fire. I thought it was only Jack Russell from the original lineup. I looked it up, and your info is accurate. I can’t believe Psycho City couldn’t even sell a half a million. This was definitely, because grunge took over. If that album was released in the 80’s, it might have reached platinum, but for sure gold.I liked it better than the Hooked album.
they were never underappreciated. Cmon man. Theye were very successful commercially and Live were brilliant. An unfortunate accident killed their legacy.
They were a great live band. Saw them on this tour opening for White snake. Great show. Try face the day, shot in the dark, my heart the hunter, on your knees, a ton of great tunes.
Saw them back in the day (80's) on the Great Albino tour...Great White, Whitesnake and White Lion. All great bands! This is one of the 'Great' White songs. Awesome solo too! Thank you brother.
Back in 95 we went on the bus and smoked a doobie with jack and the band after the show... then left because my friends wife had brought her friend with us.. and right in front of us this girl got down and started blowing Jack lolol.. that's a true story. My buddy and his wife Md me and my gf were only 3 ft away. It's a bus for CHRISTS sake. So we slipped.on out the door. I kept teasing his wife for bringing such a classy friend along.
Great White has done an entire tribute album to Zep and it's widely accepted as one of the all time best tributes ever. If you want 2 good examples of this, they did the Zep song "Since I've been Loving You" from this concert you have here, and then the other big one is from MTV Unplugged - "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" which is at 1M+ views.
Great band, great song. Very much under appreciated band. Like Cinderella, these guys got grouped into "hair bands" and thrown into the bargain bin... 🤘😎
I'm a 63yrs old woman and I still can't sit still when I hear this song doesn't matter where I am, if it comes on radio while I'm driving I still jam head banging dancing in my seat one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE SONGS gets the blood pumping and my heart racing
I got to hang out back stage with the band in 1984 when they were opening for Judas Priest, great guy's they were so happy to be on tour with Priest. I saw them later at a small club in the 90's and they tore the roof off that place.
These guys are coming to my town next month so yeah definitely I'm gonna go see them! Also Slaughter is the headliner! Gonna be one HELL of a show! 80's metal FOREVER!
my dawg! So funny - Great White was gonna be my patreon request for Feb after you thoroughly enjoyed Kix (similar band/sound). Figured you'd enjoy this. Shout out to Mike!!! Their entire "Twice Shy" album is fantastic. My two favorite songs are on that album: Mista Bone, and House of Broken Love (very bluesy). I am surprised why no one had turned you on to them sooner. Russell also did some Zeppelin song covers - sounds amazing. One of the more notorious events involving them was The Station nightclub fire on evening of February 20, 2003, in West Warwick, Rhode Island during a set. Pyrotechnics were used during the set, and had not been cleared to use them at that venue - it set the place on fire, and people couldn't get out. killing 100 people including their guitarist Ty Longley, and injuring 230 others. Was a horrible tragedy. Keep rocking, T!!! Will hit you up, soon. :-)
Saw these guy in the mid eighties, before they released this song. They were an opening act for a band I can't recall (maybe Ozzy). I had no idea who they were, but after seeing them, I remember them more than the headline act. At that time I believe they only had one guitarist, the same guy in this video. He was right in front of me with a sweet BC Rich guitar. (I think.) What I definitely remember is they rocked, they had their stuff together. You can tell when a band puts a lot of time into their work, they were craftsmen.
The Once Bitten album is definitely my favorite by Great White. Awesome song choice. I saw Jack's current band 3 years ago and he's still singing great. 👍👍🤘🤘👏👏👏👏👏
These guys are largely known for a major fire that happened at a venue on Rhode Island called "the station" they were performing at, 100 people died there including the guitarist of the band Theres a video of the event on UA-cam, some guy near the front had a camera out recording it from basically the moment the fire started to the end when the whole building was burning, its pretty well known as it went viral in recent years
@@TheAdventuresofTNT They were one of the most underrated bands from the 80's in my opinion. No one does Led Zeppelin covers like them. They have 2 live albums of Led Zeppelin covers. I saw these guys in concert with Tesla back in 1989. Perhaps the most fun week of my life. Saw the concert Sunday night, got a new girlfriend on Wednesday, and won the state football title on Saturday. Pretty damn good seven day stretch. Great White was one of those bands that sounded as good live as they did on their albums. I have no idea why they are skipped over as much as they are these days when people talk about the 80's rock scene. They had many damn good songs. If you want to check out a really bluesy (and pretty damn funny) song, check out "Mista Bone." One of my favorite songs they did wasn't even on any of their albums. Perhaps their biggest hit was "Once Bitten, Twice Shy." On the cassette single for that song, their were too other tracks, "Wasted Rock Ranger" and "Slow Ride." Other than sharing a title, "Slow Ride" has nothing to do with the song of the same name released by Foghat. Absolutely love "Slow Ride" and have no idea why it didn't make any of their regular albums. After that cassette single went out of print, it was impossible to find that song anywhere. I can remember finding it finally on Napster, but only one person had it, and every time I'd try and download it, I'd get about 3/4 done and the guy would logoff. And with Napster at that time, you had to start over every time. Took me two months, but I finally got it. Then a few years later, Great White finally included the song on one of their many greatest hits collections, so I ran out and bought that CD. Definitely worth a listen.
Thanks T! This one brings back fond memories, I practically had this song on a loop back in the day. It's a fun one for me to sing along to while cruising in the vehicle.
I hung out with these guys when I was younger in Cali. They were known as Dante Fox and Tony Richards was the drummer with Don Costa on base. They rocked then and we all had a feeling they would make it. Don and Tony went to WASP.
One of my absolute favorites from this band is the song :It's All Over Now." Not sure if it ever made the radio or MTV but I used to jam that in the car stereo all the time, lol. Give it a listen sometime.
As was mentioned by someone else, I saw them in concert when they opened for White Snake in Southern California. They tore it up, and right at the second it turned time for them to be off stage, White Snake pulled the power mid song and sent roadies out to pull them and their equipment of stage. When white snake came out, the booe was so loud And so much trash was being thrown up at the stage that white snake acquiesced and let great white come back out to finish their song and set. My wife and I were there to see Whitesnake, but man did great white put on a great show.
Another Great White tune you should hear is Face The Day. I same them on this tour when they opened for Dokken. The first opening band was Black and Blue featuring guitarist Tom Thayer who is the lead guitarist in KISS now dressed as “Ace Frehely”.
Great reaction! Your analogy was spot on Great White was such a good band I'm also surprised more people haven't heard of them. You can't go wrong with any album from 87-92. They also put together a Zeppelin tribute album you want to check out. But for songs I suggest giving House of broken love and Save your Love a listening to. You won't be disappointed
When i was 18 years old, i got a hold of their first self titled album "Great White"...early 80s...what a blast that was. It opened up with a banger called "Out of the night"....been a fan every since.
Grew up listening to these guys and still do. Just subscribed. You should do KingdomCome Twilight Cruiser, another band that sadly were ousted as being a Zeppelin clone band but although they leaned tward Zep they had there own sound and music.
I've seen this band request repeatedly on your Metal Meltdown. I know I have. Great White's House of Broken Love. I used to see these guys play backyard keggers before they were famous.
They also do a unplugged cover of babe i'm gonna leave you thats great. I've seen them live and they brought a 16 year old guitarist on stage who hadn't really been found out yet and that was Kenny Wayne shepherd. Great concert
Loved these guys from the first time I heard them; bought the CD immediately after first hearing a song, played it and there were NO throwaways... The whole thing was fantastic. Still think so...
The biggest that may have caused people not requesting them was a tragedy at one of their concerts in Rhode Island. Some of their pyrotechnics lit some foam insulation on fire at a small venue where they were playing and 100 people died in the resulting fire. And 115 were treated for severe burns.
They're still around, sort of. They've split into two factions. One is Jack Russell's Great White (Jack and some other guys) and Great White, which is basically the other guys with Mitch Malloy singing.
They are/were a great live band. Was never a huge fan of their albums but always would see them live because they were that good. there are 2 versions of them now. The current version of "Great White" does not have Jack Russell, and then there is "Jack Russell's Great White", which has no other members of the original band I believe. Have seen the Jack Russell version live a few years ago, great show and the band was phenomenal.
Back in the day, there were a bunch of bands like this with zeppelin influence. They were called "zeppelin clones". This is actually my favorite from these guys! I've never heard it live before!
When u listen to 80’s rock, if it starts slow u never know if it’s gonna be a ballad starting and then kicking it up. You Just hafta wait a few mins. It’s always worth the wait.
Used to see them way back in the day before they were signed, Perkins Palace, Pauly Pavilion, of course the Sunset strip clubs, a song I loved by them was “Street Killer”…
I was always a fan of Great White. Looking at previous comments, I see a lot of great songs by them for you to listen to. I have another band for you to try out I haven't seen requested that I think you will really like... The band is Monster Magnet. Check out "Space Lord" by them. It starts a little funky, but really amps up in the chorus
Please more !~ Saw them at T.A. Verns in Milwaukee i n '93 or '94 . Small venue in basement . Stood for 5 hours . When closing-time lights came on , it was wall to wall beer bottles on t he floor . Sounded just like the album live ! Not too many bands can pull it off live . ( in my opinion ) . These guys could .
Great White is one of my favorites and best in the eighties era in my opinion .. love it' seen them live twice 'what fun times , here's some to checkout ' house of broken love , desert moon , once bitten twice shy,, in the tradition ,rollin stoned , psychedelic hurricane, old rose motel , big goodbye, save your love , mista bone ..really they're all good take you pick ..
Great White had a period in the late 80’s where we’re very big. Their most famous song is probably Once bitten…..Twice Shy. It is a cover of a Mott the Hoople song and is on their cd Twice Shy. It is not, however, what I believe is their best song. From the same cd that Rock Me is on, they recorded a tremendous power ballad.
Seen these guys live in 1987 in Fort Smith Arkansas . Jack has one of the best live voices I ever heard . They opened for Cheap Trick and they should of been the headliner that night. Unbelievable Concert!!!
The power ballad they recorded on Once Bitten, Save All Your Love, is probably one of the top 10 power ballads of th 80’s and is their best song. I would suggest you check it out, but make sure you check out the full length studio version, not the ultra edited single version that is all chopped up. I know you are open to and dig some power ballads. I think you will like this one. Once again, that is Save All Your Love.
I saw them open for Judas Priest on the Defenders tour back in '84 or thereabouts. They were great live. Very talented band, and one of the 2 or 3 artists who could cover Zeppelin and do it some justice. I personally didn't care for some of the later 80s stuff (e.g. Once Bitten Twice Shy), as it seemed to be cheesy hair band stuff, and they were much better than that.
This song is so hot!!! It was one of my favorite 80s songs!!!!! They have so many great songs you must try more!!! “Mista Bone” “ House of Broken Love”!!!!!!
When I saw these guys in 1986 on tour with Iron Maiden the only song I remember is FACE THE DAY. Sadly it was the only time I saw the band live. Never got to see them headline. Drat!
Just subscribed, y'all are cool as hell. Great channel and great reviews. I could see me drinking a beer with y'all and jamming. Thank you for making my day better.
Such a great band saw them many times during this time, check out the MTV unplugged Babe I'm gonna leave you,Zep cover dare I say it's as good as original!
T, your next band to check out should be Brother Cane. Give their song "Got No Shame" a try. You'll like it, or I'll give you your money back. Starts with harmonica, then comes the cowbell, then the guitars and drums enter the picture. It's right up your alley...
I was lucky to see this band and many more great ones back in the 80's. It was an awful tragedy when they were performing in a club in 2003 and it caught fire. It killed a hundred and injured 200. Ty Longley a guitar player for the band at that time was one of them killed. I remember seeing this on the news. It was so sad. Rip Ty Longley.
people stop with the UNDERATED BS. This was one of the most successful Rock Bands 80's early nineties. You all live under a rock then?? Cmon Man. an unfortunate decision by stage crew blew this bands legacy into oblivion. mad respect to this line up. saw them open up for RUSH in New Haven Colliseum 1983. KILLER

That was just as good as the studio version.
I hung out with these guys when I was younger in Cali. They were known as Dante Fox and Tony Richards was the drummer with Don Costa on base. They rocked then and we all had a feeling they would make it. Don and Tony went to WASP.
A great song by them is House of Broken Love. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
Their best song ever
Highly underrated and great live band. Ben a fan since the 80's. Definitely worth checking out
One of my absolute favorites from this band is the song :It's All Over Now." Not sure if it ever made the radio or MTV but I used to jam that in the car stereo all the time, lol.
Once Bitten Twice Shy
Save All Your Love
Couple of songs to check out by them
They also do a unplugged cover of babe i'm gonna leave you thats great. I've seen them live and they brought a 16 year old guitarist on stage who hadn't really been found out yet and that was Kenny Wayne shepherd. Great concert
They did a Zeppelin cover album at one point. But yes, they actually had some SOUL in their songs...
🤘😁
Loved these guys from the first time I heard them; bought the CD immediately after first hearing a song, played it and there were NO throwaways... The whole thing was fantastic. Still think so...
The biggest that may have caused people not requesting them was a tragedy at one of their concerts in Rhode Island. Some of their pyrotechnics lit some foam insulation on fire at a small venue where they were playing and 100 people died in the resulting fire. And 115 were treated for severe burns.
Saw the same tour in Charlotte NC Ovens Auditorium. One of the best live bands to hear live as you can tell in this video.
One of the best bands ever saw them live at Knoxville coliseum back in the day hell of a show thanks for the great review!!!!!!! You rock
They're still around, sort of. They've split into two factions. One is Jack Russell's Great White (Jack and some other guys) and Great White, which is basically the other guys with Mitch Malloy singing.
I had the privilege of seeing these guys at a small but locally legendary, place in Newark , Delaware....... Stone Balloon. It was really cool.......
Love his vocals!
Back in the day, there were a bunch of bands like this with zeppelin influence. They were called "zeppelin clones". This is actually my favorite from these guys! I've never heard it live before!
I was a big fan of them, in fact this was the first CD that I ever bought. Great reaction!
My favorite Great white song is ‘All Over Now’ it’s really good. Love the channel by the way.
When u listen to 80’s rock, if it starts slow u never know if it’s gonna be a ballad starting and then kicking it up. You Just hafta wait a few mins. It’s always worth the wait.
HEYYYYY.....AND THAT WAS THE BACK UP BAND !!!!
Check out their version on Babe I'm going to leave you (Zepplin cover)
"Lady Red Light" and "House of Broken Love" are also good.
My God that was tight. Very few bands can play THAT damn tight. I miss the 80s sooooo bad
Great white call it rock and roll
Sounds this great live. Pure talent baby
Seen these guys live in 1987 in Fort Smith Arkansas . Jack has one of the best live voices I ever heard . They opened for Cheap Trick and they should of been the headliner that night. Unbelievable Concert!!!
Good song selection. Brings me back to a time when things were simpler.
One of my favorite bands. One of the first concerts I attended was Great White opening tor Alice Cooper.I front a band and we cover this track
They've got a YT channel: Official Great White TV and they are doing dates right now. The singer and band still sound great.
One of the best live bands I ever saw. They surprised the hell out of me.
Wasted Rock Ranger by GW sums up late 80s metal life pretty well and is quite funny
Another great performance at The Ritz from another band called White Lion is Lady of the Valley.
Face the day. Original version. Such a great song. Great band. Saw them live in 96.
I don't care what anyone says, Mark Kendall is very under rated
Such a great band saw them many times during this time, check out the MTV unplugged Babe I'm gonna leave you,Zep cover dare I say it's as good as original!
Great White has some really good songs in their catalog. On Your Knees, Stick It, Face The Day, House of Broken Love.
RIP Jack 🦈🎤🙏
T, your next band to check out should be Brother Cane. Give their song "Got No Shame" a try. You'll like it, or I'll give you your money back. Starts with harmonica, then comes the cowbell, then the guitars and drums enter the picture. It's right up your alley...
Have you heard their album Great Zeppelin? Check it out. A whole album of Zeppelin covers. Amazing!
Great White "Hooked" album is an awesome listen from front to back
House of broken love period. A must listen
Ain't heard this in awhile very awesome great reaction T.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️💯☮️🎸🎸
Many great songs. Rockers. Old Rose Motel.
This is mine and the ole ladies song from 30yrs ago love it
Take a listen to Old Rose Motel, Heart the Hunter, Congo Square, Heartbreaker, House of Broken Love…bluesy, straightforward rock!
Seems they did a whole tribute album to LZ, "Great Zeppelin, Great White".
They do Stairway so we'll. I don't know why they didn't blow up!
Once bitten twice shy, is a must reaction
House of Broken Love is very bluesy and an amazing song.
Shot in the dark live from the same concert is pretty killer.
KILLER
Give me some awesome songs by them.
