I’m only 17 and will ALWAYS be saddened by the fact I’ll never be able to see these bands as they were in their prime era or to experience anything of the 80’s. It makes me glad that some people like you appreciate those times, I wish my father and many other people appreciated it more, some people don’t realize how great they got it.

The vocals have always come first for me. If I don't like the singers voice, I don't give the rest of the band a chance.
Great White was one of my all time favorite bands and that's due to Jack's voice.

I remember when the Twice Shy record blew up big and Great White were a household name in the late 80's / early 90's. I formed a power trio my senior year of high school, and one of the tunes we worked up was "House Of Broken Love", which was one of the singles from that record. Then a few years later, GW puts out that live cover album of Led Zeppelin tunes, and I thought to myself, "Jack Russell is the next Robert Plant." Sounds like Robert to a tee! I always loved the prominent bluesy influence in their music. Mark Kendall was one of the most underrated guitarists of his era. Even when grunge, and later nu metal, was reigning huge in the 90's, I still listened to my 80's bands, and Great White was in regular rotation. I never turned my back on the music that got me through some really not-so-bitching times in my life.

I have been a huge Great White fan since before things got crazy for them. This is the Great White I loved so much in this video I am sharing here. Jack and a pack of guys made a band named it great white. The guitarist Mark and drummer are still keeping a band called Great White going and Jack is going in another direction trying to keep it together another way but the singers can't do what Jack did and does. There is only one way, but Mark and Jack wont fix it. I'm going to see them tomorrow. Jack won't be there. Man, ok it will be the end of an era for me. If you liked their raw sound, and are a fan of the beginnings, check this. They kill Since I've been Loving you here. It's fantastic. I saw them in the beginnings in a bar in Cali in 1985. It went on from there for the rest of the 80s and then the fire and the changes - it all changed. Tomorrow will be different without the original (RIP)bassist and the only Great White singer Jack. They have had their tragedies for sure.ua-cam.com/video/CzQTcvouAuo/v-deo.htmlsi=2kT6CHGo0rqPDFTF.
I am so glad I got to experience what I did in those 80s - Thank you Jack, Mark thank you to a great idea and big sound - being raw and real and memor😅es I will never forget.

His classic tribute to Led Zepplin is mind blowing it’s so damn good. I wish things were different and they were still together. Judas Priest is my fav band of all time and Great White is near the top for me. When I listen to their debut album and Once Bitten ect it takes me back in time. I was young ,free and enjoying life . Bottom line thank you Jack for your honesty. You will always be loved by Metal fans.

The tragedy of The Station fire was horrible and I always thought that was what ended things for them. I really hope Jack and Mark can work things out between them, seems they both have much respect for each other still. Of all the 1980s hard rock bands, Great White was my favorite from the moment I saw Jack's picture in a BAM magazine, because he wasn't wearing makeup, his hair wasn't in a poodle-do. He was wearing a denim jacket, the sleeves cut off, with a belt buckle that said "Jack" on it. I liked his voice when I heard "Out of the Night" for the first time, but I was really sold on "Rock Me" and "Once Bitten..." I was glad they got as big as they did for a while in the summer/fall of 1989., but it's really when people's tastes changed. I really believe that if it weren't "Grunge," it would have been something else that would have turned the mainstream public's attention. Things change. I wish Jack Russell had been able to stay with Great White. This IS the first time I'd heard his version of how he left that band, that HE had the power to "fire" everybody else. I am so glad to see this and the Part I interview. I appreciate his candor and his humility. And he sounds great and sober in these interviews. I might have to go see his band the next time I'm able.

one of my fav bands! like many of the greatest rock bands great white had their own unique sound consisting mainly of Jack's one of a kind vocel sound and certainly that of Kendall's guitar sound and tone, no individual was greater than the whole of the russell-kendall-lardie-desbrow-montana lineup and without that main line-up the magic will never be the same!! take especially either Jack or Mark out the equation and it's NOT Great White and never truly will be without them BOTH being together with that same line-up... All of the albums were solid albums with little filler tracks and that's damn hard to do, and lots of props have to go to Niven for his guidence and co-writing with those guys. i would love to see them get back together but it will more than likely never happen at this point. but when they were together the magic was there and undeniable and you could hear it and feel it and that's what made Great White and the Great White sound-PERIOD!!!

Go see Jack Russell’s Great White, they put on one of the best shows you will ever see, his band members are phenomenal musicians. Their album “He saw it coming”, is some of Jacks best work, every song on the album is fantastic!!! They also did an acoustical album of “Once Bitten”, and it is better than the original, ending with a Led Zeppelin song that shows why no one does Zepplin better than Jack Russell. For all of you complaining about missing out on the 80’s and seeing Jack then, I was there, and I am here now, and I will tell you flat out, Jack and his outstanding band puts on one of the best shows you will ever see!!!!!!

Didn't even mention the tragedy that really screwed that band up (club fire). I admired them for never giving up, and I'm glad Jack is in a good place with it now. Gotta admit, I do miss the carefree hedonism of the late 80's. That attitude hasn't happened again, and I doubt it will.

The band was already broken up at that point. Mark Kendall was joining JRGW for a few shows when that happened. I don't think Jack wants to talk about that anymore. I don't blame him.

I have the utmost respect for Jack...there was a show in Green Bay years ago...maybe 2013 or 2015...he'd just torn his Achillies earlier that week...but on Friday he sang a whole show from a bar stool on stage and kicked ass...I can't help but think many musicians would've cancelled and been justified doing so...but not Jack...I was always a fan, but I'll be a fan for life after that...regarding the break up...w/the substance abuse and so forth was it justified...probably and that's what Jack confirmed...but as you can see following Great White since...I think Great White has a Mark Kendall problem...not a (insert this month's singer here) problem

My one slight problem with his photo copy comment is that a case could be made that GW was a photo copy of Crue, Poison, and RIot. GW was one of many bands who got signed on the coat tails of Crue, RIot and a few other strip bands signed in about 82

Some rock stars understand why grunge killed 80's metal, other's dont. Seem's Jack Russell still doesn't understand it. Yes, he's right, grunge was depressing, it was morose. That's exactly why it was so popular. Things change. the partying and hedonism of 80's metal was perfect for that time period, but metal never matured beyond that. It was stuck making music for teens and teenyboppers. Meanwhile all those metal heads in 80's were grown up by the 90's and were seeking more meaningful music, more introspective music, so when grunge came around it was perfect for that time. Of course now that all those 80's metal heads, turned 90's grunge fans, are middle aged and feeling nostalgic, so they went back to the 80's feel good party music.

Real metal bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Metallica had deeper more mature lyrics - it was glam metal bands that had the shallow lyrics about girls, partying, fast cars, etc.
