A fair assessment - there's quite a bit of ramming in this video, and Clippers are wonderful space battering rams :P In this instance, I chose to ram my targets to drop their HP down low enough so that a short burst or two from the Shock Cannons could finish them off without using too much ammo. If I didn't, I probably would have run out after the second target! On that note, I did run a High CZ where I primarily used three fixed Shock Cannons on my Courier in a previous video: ua-cam.com/video/u-2438mmcik/v-deo.html In that one, I repeatedly Synthesized more ammo to keep them running for the duration of the CZ. I ended up using an eyewatering amount of mats to do so, but it's possible!
I do own Clipper but damn, this thing is maneuverable as hell! Unbelievable for a big ship XD. Looks like Fun build. I experimented with shock cannons at one point too - Fun weapons for sure, the DPS can be absolutely insane, but yeah, the low ammo in combination with really expensive synthesis kinda kills it :/
I don't understand the mechanics of these weapons. Do they do more damage the more quickly you fire them? I really enjoy using them but I have no idea what's happening and the limited ammo makes them challenging.
Shock Cannons are semi-automatic weapons that can be fired at a maximum rate of 10 shots/second, but they become increasingly inaccurate when fired that rapidly. Pausing for a few moments between salvos is enough to keep them from spraying all over the place. With a bit of practice, it's possible to snipe modules with them. There is no damage ramping on Shock Cannons (which is what I thought when they were first introduced), so every shot deals the same damage. The trick is to quickly land as many shots as possible, as that damage will add up fast!
@@CMDRTheRiz Ah so it's just the insane fire rate that gets you the DPS. I assume that one of the reasons for the heat buildup is to help cook of caustic missile residue. (i think the rapid fire mode on the modified guardian plasma chargers does serves the same function)
At 1st i was like what the heck is he doing? LOL very cool, did you put a bunch of B rated modules for an extra kick? Does that even work? haha Oh at the beginning when you were searching for Conda, you probs know already but in contacts the biggest ships are always top of the list- great vid! o7
Whoops - I forgot to add my Clipper's build to the description! It should be there in a few moments. It's the Dragonfire build from the Beam Laser Clipper video (ua-cam.com/video/ccWaI36nV8g/v-deo.html ), but with Shock Cannons instead of Beam Lasers. All A-Rated equipment with Reactive Surface Composites and just over 4k raw MJs in the hull. At the beginning, I was actually searching for an Asp to ram, but none spawned so I just decided "Screw it!" and divebombed the Anaconda. I think it worked out ok :D I didn't actually know about big ships in the contacts panel trick - thanks!
@@CMDRTheRiz But seriously man, you could use b rated sensors and life support at least, i promise you the additional damage from larger mass will make this even more viable in pve.
Nice to see the Clipper getting some love... Great video, it was fun to watch.
Once you get the hang of it, the Clipper is an absolute joy to fly - and ram things with!
Not so much kill via the Shock Cannon, but more like a Kamikaze Ramming technique.

I see the Clipper and Cutter have a trait in common....space battering ram! 😂
5th Hardpoint FTW! 🐏
Shock cannons are a lot of fun to use, I just wish they carried more ammunition.
Finally someone who gives love to the Shock Cannons.
By the way, we use the same structure. :)
