I've had the Imperial Clipper for a few days now. I'm building a multi-purpose ship as I can't be bothered swapping out modules. I plan on mostly ignoring mining and spreading my time between bounty hunting, trading and exploration. I have two 3A Shield Cell Banks but I'm not sure how to use them. I am playing on Xbox One, by the way, which means somewhat awkward controls and no keybinding. My main firegroup in combat is large gimballed pulse lasers on the right trigger and medium gimballed cannons on the left trigger. For my SCB's, way I see it these are my options... The Pulse Lasers on the right trigger and both SCB's on the left trigger meaning I've still got weapons available and I get a bigger shield recharge. (Do two SCB on one button give double the amount of shields back?) Or one SCB on each trigger and only use both if I really need two to make them last longer. What do you think would be the better option? For that matter, would you keep my current weapon loadout or swap to large cannons and medium pulse lasers?
I just bought a clipper and equipped it with this loadout, and I'm having trouble with power management. Could you possibly tell us how you prioritized your modules?
What are the boost speeds for all the ships? My T6 is sitting in a station gathering dust while I fly my Cobra for basically everything (311 m/s Cruse, 445 m/s Boost). The Clipper is the only ship I fear, everyone else just ends up choking on my exhaust :P "Gotta go fast!" - Sanic
soulandkro try this video: ua-cam.com/video/I2TYABak3tM/v-deo.html just do a lot of missions for right faction and wait for naval ascension missions to appear.
Haha! I love it! Ramming speed Captain! I keep hearing Capt. James T. Kurk from the USS Enterprise screaming KAHN!@! Each time I was Kornelius ram the hell out of these lesser captains. After watching a lot of battle techniques that came from the Roman war era, where they actually designed ships for that very purpose (RAM). I feel this is a very real and very technical plausible offensive combat technique.
Abberron yeah, if they don't do anything to avoid collision why should i care, if i were in vulture i would avoid being rammed, if someone would glue his ship to my conda i would also try to get rid of him ;)
+Diogo Cerqueira wht do you mean criteria? higher class more internals means more and better shield cell banks for fighters or cargo racks for explorers etc.
I don't want this ship because it's what everyone else has, however it seems to be far better than anything else in its range. Outdoing the federal assault ship at combat while still doing everything else better as well. Are there any other options?
Is that a forward observation deck on the Anaconda? I never noticed that before. The placement of the hard points for the Clipper really suck, ha. Well I guess no ship can have everything great. I have decided that I need a Python. It just seems to versatile to not have one. It can do just about everything well. Also I hate ships that have energy problems, so I will not be getting the other two you had listed. It is annoying going though your systems figuring out what you can turn on and off all the time.
Jesse Sisolack on all ships you will have to go through all modules and set priorities right, that alone will give you advantage in fight, but at least on python you will not have to make sacrifices, just small compromises :)
Kornelius Briedis I am sure turning off the cargo hatch and anything else I am not using will give me enough from the numbers I am looking at. I normally do not pick TOO power hungry weapons. I prefer weapons that will last a while over one hit wonders, so no rail guns or accelerators for me. Hell if I have enough energy left over, maybe I will pick up one of those fancy shields sometime, ha. Doubt it. Lots of work for a very power hungry item, even if it is a bit better.
Jesse Sisolack it's not just that, you don't need normally all shield cell banks activated, as well as on some ships you don't need all weapons at the same time, so having stronger shields and switching between modules when needed can give you huge advantage.
Kornelius Briedis Yes, managing your systems seems to be a VERY big part of the game to the point that I would say it is the most important part. Everything in the game is effected by your ability to manage systems. Unfortunately my hands do not work as good as they used too. The last few spine operations have helped a lot, but I use Voice Attack for a lot of the system management these days. The game seems rather well suited for Voice Attack.
Hey KB , what's your thoughts on how they restricted the python? I think they should not have done that because my python that is decked right out against a pvp Anaconda does not stand a chance. I guess for the amount of money you have to pay for python and best things for it, it should be better than what it is. Would love to hear your opinion. Thanks man.
Dean Troost you mean first nerf or how python is now? i think they got it wrong in the first place and now it's just an alternative to clipper, fdl, conda - some things python does better some not, i would say that there shouldn't be a ship that is very good for all. didn't use python since nerf much because python just doesn't work well for what i need it to do but it's not that bad, also we must consider wings now and wing with 1 python, conda and several clippers is a way to go ;)
Kornelius Briedis thanks for the helpful and fast response mate, one more thing I would love to know and I understand if you wouldn't want to tell , but how can I make that kinda money you make per day? Would love to be able to. Thanks again KB.
Dean Troost i made 20mil in last 2 weeks because i wasn't playing that much lately ;) but all you need to do is grind trade route with 8-12m/hour income on your trading anaconda for as many hours as you can, simple as that. now you can find trade routes giving you around 4000-5000cr profit per tonne per round trip so it's much easier now.
Don't know if i should give this out or not but , you can get Imp Clipper in the BAEDULE system, Coye Horizons station, NO RANKING REQUIRED. Dont know if its that way in other systems but just throwing this out there
I've just got back into the game after nearly a year away, when I got back in had the vulture which I traded in for the type 7, to start trading again. I'm at lord rank but need one more level before I can buy the clipper. am I best just doing empire missions to progress, or do you progress trading between empire stations?
Dimitri Petrenkov not expensive ones, SADLY for me :) 3 new ships are coming with 1.4: Imperial eagle, Dropship Mark 2 (1 large 2 medium i think), Federal Gunship (2xsmall. 4xmed, 1xlarge) Plus 1 additional ship for CQC, i think it is federal fighter for kamikazi pilots. Total 4 ships. p.s. Dropship mark 2 looks very nice.
Dimitri Petrenkov Imperial Eagle, faster than standard Eagle and with a medium hardpoint on the roof but worse manoeuvrability. Next is the Federal Dropship MK II, a combat focused variant of the Dropship with smaller internals, and finally the Condor, a CQC only ship which is the federal fighter you see coming out of the Federal capital ships. No info on the prices yet.
How much cash you you recommend saving up before upgrading a Vulture to a Clipper? Will a 30 mil Clipper even be worth it for NPC bounty hunting and PP Merit kills compared to a Vulture? Maybe its better to wait until 50 mil?
goxcpre no, 30m clipper is not worth, for npc bounty hunt vulture might be even better choice, especially fully kitted one vs not kitted clipper, i would go for clipper when i have around 80m, or much less if i want to trade first and then upgrade, probably 50 is enough for trading clipper
Kornelius Briedis Thanks for the reply. I have watched pretty much all your ship reviews! Ill just stick with the Vulture then until I have more credits. Might consider the trading clipper for that much. Seems to be a pretty decent gap between the mid tier ships like the Vulture/Asp and Clipper. Still more affordable than a Python...
+Kornelius Briedis Still no sense. The clipper has an 80 ton shield generator that costs 10 times as much as an _entire vulture hull_ I expect coverage proportionate to the size and cost of the equipment.
SirSmurfalot it doesn't work like that, vulture is combat ship and thus it has much higher shield base value, same as ferdelance, but they luck in power plants, clipper has low shield base value but is more multi purpose, you can't compare modules because they tell you nothing, you must compare ships and their roles.
Sigel I highly suggest you do. I went from a Type-7 to a Clipper and don't regret it one bit. You gain a bit more cargo space, a lot easier to maneuver than the Type-7 boat, takes less time to do a round trip of your trade route and it's just so much sexy ship...doesn't look like a swollen tick. Remember that currently you only need a rank of Serf to get the Clipper and Courier.
CMDR Phreedom Ok I'm gonna rush the last 5 mil I need. Should get it by tomorrow evening if everything goes well. I'll outfit it a bit later. You can't get this one in the founder, right? So my best bet if I wanna save 2 mil would be a system controlled by Denton Patreous?
ironmanTetsuoTV open your eyes, i am shooting with 2 Large cannons and 1 Medium cannon from point blank range every second or so, it has nothing to do with collisions. also why would 400t ship be worse in ramming other 400t ship? they both have same hull mass so damage should be similar, anaconda just have MUCH better shields so in theory clipper is a loser if i ram anaconda all the time while conda has shields on.
Kornelius Briedis I had no idea they were the same hull mass, very interesting! I could see you shooting but you were also constantly rubbing up against him so I assumed (incorrectly) this was causing extra damage.
rogantu The Eotienses system is quite a fun one to grind levels in. High population and last time I checked a few empire systems nearby were in a civil war.
SonicOverlordUK care to go over what to do for me? I seriously failed after completing several missions. I was so sure I did what the wiki said and what youtubers said, but somewhere along the time I must have been taking the wrong missions or been in the wrong systems. I did however make a good profit out of it. I didn't even get 1 naval progression mission unlocked, but I saw them in the 3 stations I visited. They were just unavailable at the time.
rogantu Well, what I did was looked for systems which had minor factions aligned with the empire (bonus points if the faction was in a civil war because fighting is fun). I fought in their civil war with them, grinded bulletin board missions and donated to stations which were owned by those factions whenever they asked. When I became Allied with their minor factions I was eventually offered a mission by the Imperial Navy. When I finished it I went to Daha Deti (I thought they would talk about a random person helping them out more to the empire than those who I was an ally to). I became friendly with them and was offered another mission. It ultimately comes down to how many minor factions allied to the major faction you are friendly/ allied with as well as some random dice roll when you look at the bulletin board for if they will offer you a mission. If you aren't getting anything when you ally with a minor faction, go elsewhere and do the same with them. For some it takes an afternoon, for some it takes a week or more, for me it took 3 nights. Don't worry, it will happen if you stick at it!
Hello Kornelius! I had a question; when ramming, which matters? Base hull mass, or Laden? I've been trying to come up with a setup (and I love ramming other ships even with my vulture), and if Laden is going to be taken into account, I believe I'll swap some stuff to B rated versions for extra mass. Also, do you use B rated shield cell banks, or A rated ones? I've been B rated ones as they provide 1 more cell that you can use - less per cell, but more cells / total so to speak. Edit: This is my crappy plan for future - coriolis.io/outfit/imperial_clipper/36A6A5A5B6A5B4C15152727040404004l5o5e5e29296c2o.AwRj4y2VyA==.CwBhGYy6wRheDbnEA===
lyravega i don't think anyone can answer you that, i would equip ship with what i need not what i could need for best ramming, just because i had some tests and results were weird sometimes. as for B shield cell banks then i use them if i don't have enough power but other than that not really, but yes - they have slightly bigger overall charge than A ;)
lyravega Ffs what the hell am i thinking lol. I haven't played this game in quite a while after i started losing my mind from trading non-stop for about 6 months. I was thinking of trading and nothing else lol. Oh yea, there's combat!! Duh...
Was a fun ship to fly, but the wide load of the weapons really let it down (for me), i ended up returning to me Asp before getting my Vulture and sticking with it (still can't afford a conda, and not sure I really want one, I don't like the cockpit look from it (over the hull)). :)
Max speed 431 quet excelent for that mass. I dont understand why with those thrusters other lighter ships cant fix that fast. I manage to squeeze 464 top speed from cobra no shields.
it's funny i had all these ships, but sold the fdl eventually to equip the python. getting the python last, i have to say that it was the best move i did for mission play. i still use the vulture in cz is the cheapest way to grind in one. and since i dont like neither the empire really, nor the feds, and i am not in power play, i fly the poor clipper less and less :( because i agree it is maybe the best feeling to fly and do stuff in game :)
Watching the video of the de Bug camera, the ships guns are very underwhelming, compared to its size. I would gladly give up some of its speed and a little bit of its maneuverability for more harpoints.
I recently got into this game and finally managed to buy a clipper, I havent touched engineers yet but anyone tried making it into a support ship for fun? I'm thinking of getting 2 large beams that heal shields with two medium multicannons, anyone tried something similar:)? Altough after flying it for a tiny bit I feel like the large beams just draws to much power for sustained fighting so idk
sometimes I fly this ship + 2 imperial hammers on it, just for fun. It's a good ship. but it's nothing compared to my old Viper, the coolest ship in the game
Wow, I really feel like that shouldn't be a way to kill somebody. Just make space sex with the enemy ship until the ship is dead. Cheese, cheese everwhere.
Working Joe i was shooting with cannons from point blank range while stayed as close as possible to him, nothing else. also if you drive a tank and enemy drives a car then not to use that for your advantage is plain stupid.
Hey! Like your videos. I've never got ramming to work for me when I'm in a clipper but this makes me want to try it again. Are you with ROA? I got interdicted by about 4 of you guys today in 34 Pegasi when I was in my trade python and got blown to pieces. I know you guys say you 'own' this part of space but what gives with just blowing up traders that come there? Wouldn't it be better and more profitable for you guys to just 'tax' people that come in. Most everyone who comes there is trading imperial slaves. Just set an amount they have to give you for using the trade route for a day and you can make some money out of it and don't have to cost honest traders millions in insurance fees and a ship full of slaves for it. It also creates a more fun RP element as opposed to acting like psychotic murderers.
Kornelius Briedis Okay fair enough, thanks. I think your mass locking values are out of date though. Since 1.3 they nerfed the clipper's ability to mass lock other ships and increased the pythons: www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/37flfy/13_ship_mass_inhibition_factors/ Also how do you manage power distribution with all those shield cell banks? I'm guessing you have the class 6 on it's own - when it runs out switch on both class 4s? And then use the class 3 shield cell bank as back up? (as well as obviously having priority on other modules set up accordingly)
Kornelius Briedis Well they aren't 'mine', I just went by what I had read in other places. I happily stand corrected as it means the clipper nerf isn't as bad as I thought it was.
GlowVaa Gaming if you own a anaconda or a python you can urn 10 million a day and still be able to work make dinner you can even do 20 million if you got nothing better to do. trading in these 2 ships are the only way to get lots of reliable money fast. do this every day for a year and you will get a lot. i managed to get 100 million in 4 days trading in my anaconda.
It needs a bigger fuel tank.. and better starting jump range.. this is not medium size ship.. The ASP explorer is a better ship in most ways. If you make this ship a mining ship.. the jump range sucks and you better have a better fuel scoop. If you make this for Combat.. bah.. Python.. fer de lance.. are better for many reasons. Sooo.. what exactly is this ship good for???? All I can say.. is its fast.. and pretty.. but not of use for much
how is this the best ship for PvP? sure it's maneuverable but its shields are complete shit and the hardpoint placement is terrible. The Python, Fer-de-lance, Vulture and even diamondback scout can beat this ship. And about ramming, the ship has terrible lateral thrusters so it is easy to dodge a ram.
+Felix Browning great, you killed that poor one guy ;) whatever, i never said my truth is the only truth, you think clipper is worst pvp ship and i am not interested in convincing you otherwise.
This stupid "pvp" raming is the worse mechanism that i see in games and is one of the things whay i stop plaing ED after one year . instead of be reward for better aiming or better system management the game reward raming. Very nice....
I just imagine this is a minature version of the Normandy SR-2 whenever I fly this.
8:26, that's the ballsiest thing I have ever seen!
(Do two SCB on one button give double the amount of shields back?)
Or one SCB on each trigger and only use both if I really need two to make them last longer.
What do you think would be the better option?
For that matter, would you keep my current weapon loadout or swap to large cannons and medium pulse lasers?
it seems no matter what I try I can't seem to make my shields tougher than paper
5 billion credits?! is there a video where you show how you get that much money?
Roger Dai yes, quite some actually :)
I just bought a clipper and equipped it with this loadout, and I'm having trouble with power management. Could you possibly tell us how you prioritized your modules?

"wins hands down. and vulture loses hands up" I actually lold. I like your reviews, thanks
Wish i could own this ship, but naval ascension missions never seem to appear.
soulandkro try this video: ua-cam.com/video/I2TYABak3tM/v-deo.html
just do a lot of missions for right faction and wait for naval ascension missions to appear.
Kornelius Briedis yep, just spent an hour doing missions and one popped up; thanks for the info.

+Diogo Cerqueira wht do you mean criteria? higher class more internals means more and better shield cell banks for fighters or cargo racks for explorers etc.
Kornelius Briedis Why say, for example, clipper has 248? What does the number mean is my doubt.
Diogo Cerqueira it's maximum cargo capacity that you can carry with clipper
Kornelius Briedis Oh okay, thanks
I wounder whare are you from)?

What ships will be added in 1.4? Are they going to be extremely high priced?
Dimitri Petrenkov not expensive ones, SADLY for me :)
3 new ships are coming with 1.4: Imperial eagle, Dropship Mark 2 (1 large 2 medium i think), Federal Gunship (2xsmall. 4xmed, 1xlarge)

Yeah. I am super excited for 1.4 and 1.5 "Ships"
Why speed test at nav beacon? You can just get under 1 mm and drop out in the middle of nowhere.
How is it the clipper ends up with weaker shields 486.6MJ (7A + 160% boosters) than my vulture 495.57MJ (5A + 128% boosters)? This makes no sense.
+SirSmurfalot and that makes no sense why?
Kornelius Briedis Because it is a much larger shield module which should offer much more protection.
SirSmurfalot but vulture is much smaller and shields needs to cover much smaller surface, still no sense?
+Kornelius Briedis Still no sense. The clipper has an 80 ton shield generator that costs 10 times as much as an _entire vulture hull_

It doesn't make much sense that an Anaconda should come off worse in a collision with a Clipper, this has to be a bug or an error in the code, no?
ironmanTetsuoTV open your eyes, i am shooting with 2 Large cannons and 1 Medium cannon from point blank range every second or so, it has nothing to do with collisions.

almost no damage by rubbing, i did that only to keep my ship glued to enemy so he can't return fire :)
yay my favorite looking ship revisited :D

Hello Kornelius! I had a question; when ramming, which matters? Base hull mass, or Laden? I've been trying to come up with a setup (and I love ramming other ships even with my vulture), and if Laden is going to be taken into account, I believe I'll swap some stuff to B rated versions for extra mass.
Also, do you use B rated shield cell banks, or A rated ones? I've been B rated ones as they provide 1 more cell that you can use - less per cell, but more cells / total so to speak.
Edit: This is my crappy plan for future - coriolis.io/outfit/imperial_clipper/36A6A5A5B6A5B4C15152727040404004l5o5e5e29296c2o.AwRj4y2VyA==.CwBhGYy6wRheDbnEA===
lyravega i don't think anyone can answer you that, i would equip ship with what i need not what i could need for best ramming, just because i had some tests and results were weird sometimes.
as for B shield cell banks then i use them if i don't have enough power but other than that not really, but yes - they have slightly bigger overall charge than A ;)
lyravega Ramming ships for what? That's strange i've never needed to ram a ship except when NPC's are loitering in the cargo bay entrance
Distant System To damage them, of course...
lyravega Ffs what the hell am i thinking lol. I haven't played this game in quite a while after i started losing my mind from trading non-stop for about 6 months. I was thinking of trading and nothing else lol. Oh yea, there's combat!! Duh...
Distant System Understandable :)
Stanislav Coros because of the balance, if you would add one class higher thrusters/power plant to some ships they would become too good ;)
thx for the video dude... 2015 but its good to know...
it's funny i had all these ships, but sold the fdl eventually to equip the python. getting the python last, i have to say that it was the best move i did for mission play. i still use the vulture in cz is the cheapest way to grind in one. and since i dont like neither the empire really, nor the feds, and i am not in power play, i fly the poor clipper less and less :( because i agree it is maybe the best feeling to fly and do stuff in game :)
Watching the video of the de Bug camera, the ships guns are very underwhelming, compared to its size.
I would gladly give up some of its speed and a little bit of its maneuverability for more harpoints.
then try out a python or anaconda. slower but has more firepower.
SOUNDS GORGEOUS TOO!! XD
sometimes I fly this ship + 2 imperial hammers on it, just for fun. It's a good ship. but it's nothing compared to my old Viper, the coolest ship in the game
Ragna Rock I put 4 hammers on my FDL for fun. The heat is crazy.
its a beautiful ship...new to game so grinding rep atm xD
Wow, I really feel like that shouldn't be a way to kill somebody. Just make space sex with the enemy ship until the ship is dead. Cheese, cheese everwhere.
Working Joe i was shooting with cannons from point blank range while stayed as close as possible to him, nothing else.
also if you drive a tank and enemy drives a car then not to use that for your advantage is plain stupid.
Clipper is best in PvP to run away, and far away not the best to kill in PvP.
With iClipper, you take close encounter literally.
It also creates a more fun RP element as opposed to acting like psychotic murderers.
blatflanger nah, i am not ROA, but sometimes i team up with locals against enemy, also i was attacked by ROA there :)
i am on my own ;)
Kornelius Briedis Okay fair enough, thanks.
I think your mass locking values are out of date though. Since 1.3 they nerfed the clipper's ability to mass lock other ships and increased the pythons: www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/37flfy/13_ship_mass_inhibition_factors/
Also how do you manage power distribution with all those shield cell banks? I'm guessing you have the class 6 on it's own - when it runs out switch on both class 4s? And then use the class 3 shield cell bank as back up? (as well as obviously having priority on other modules set up accordingly)
blatflanger and why do you think "your" mass lock values are "righter" than "mine"? :)
probably because everything posted on reddit is true ;)
blatflanger hint: read this thread: forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=149343 with developer post :)
Kornelius Briedis Well they aren't 'mine', I just went by what I had read in other places. I happily stand corrected as it means the clipper nerf isn't as bad as I thought it was.
So much money XD how do you have 5 billion?
GlowVaa Gaming if you own a anaconda or a python you can urn 10 million a day and still be able to work make dinner you can even do 20 million if you got nothing better to do. trading in these 2 ships are the only way to get lots of reliable money fast. do this every day for a year and you will get a lot. i managed to get 100 million in 4 days trading in my anaconda.
Tobias Bergstrand if you got nothing better to do you can earn 150 mil/day ;)
It needs a bigger fuel tank.. and better starting jump range.. this is not medium size ship..
+Felix Browning good luck in beating good pilot in clipper with ships mentioned above, clipper is not the best but one of the best definitely ;)
Kornelius Briedis ehh. I pvp'd a clipper in my 85mil fdl and took its shields down with 4 plasma accel shots. He then ran.
+Felix Browning great, you killed that poor one guy ;) whatever, i never said my truth is the only truth, you think clipper is worst pvp ship and i am not interested in convincing you otherwise.
@@s1dnb yeah he ran and you had no chance at catching him either.
This stupid "pvp" raming is the worse mechanism that i see in games and is one of the things whay i stop plaing ED after one year . instead of be reward for better aiming or better system management the game reward raming. Very nice....
TypoRo1 avoiding being rammed also is a skill, you can't expect tank not to destroy enemy car by just driving over it.
I never found any imperial ships to look good. The clipper looks like a goofy duck.
Pah, You imperial's always relying on your pretty ships.
Bugman541 actually i rely more on knowledge and skill and i really don't care who made the ship ;)
