It would be better to quickly switch within the song several times especially when the singer of the trumpets are holding a note for longer. This way it would be better to compare the exact same musical sound at that time.

The tubes sound so good. It’s less harsh but actually has good high treble. You can tell this sounds awesome live. With UA-cam the transistors sound more clear but live I think the tubes warmth and upper treble would sound more clear and less distorted.

Within a few bars of the 2nd track I thought 'that's gotta be valves', more texture to the vocals, nice demonstration again Mr Ahn and thank you. Hope I'm right.

Well UA-cam compresses the sound. You would have to be in the room to have optional conditions to judge.

Dont know if A or B is tube, but I like A more, Its more open and airy. all air was gone on B. A sounds more live, B more like a recording.

Ok I put on my headphones, no computer speakers for me. Switching between 0:49 and 3:49 the difference is striking. The first clip seems airy, holographic with a sense of 3 dimensional space. The second clip seems veiled by comparison. I would guess that number 1 is the tubes as that's what my tube amps sound like but I could be wrong. In any case I enjoy Number 1 more.

  • @PJSOFT

Thanks for the test. 1 sounds more "open" and a bit distorted, 2 sounds more transparent, but the differences are not huge. However, I expect another test using more detailed and defined sources like Sheffield Lab CDs, and another test for lossy tracks (like 128kbps MP3). If I had a descent amp like yours this will be the first thing I try.

To me it sounds like the vocals are coming room a different spot in the room between the two, so sound stage is different. First clips vocals seemed centered, second clip off vocals seem off to one side. Vocals also sound like they project further in space on the second clip with some reverb and echo. Instruments sound further apart in the second clip. More pronounced on speakers, but planar headphones have enough stage to hear it too.

MOS FET

    • @YoungAhn
      @YoungAhn  3 роки тому +3

@@YoungAhn As I said in another comment it would be better to frequently switch during the song especially when the singer of the trumpets hold a note. You just have to say indicate the switch with number 1 and number 2 everytime you switch. Then let them decide which is which.

    The voice was never "crisp".
I'm listening on a bluetooth speaker via laptop. (hardly ideal)
But, I'm getting better clarity, definitely "presence" and the "s" sounds are crisper with the tube amp.

Although I like these video. Unless there is a follow up video breaking down the subjective subtle differences then its just two recordings of the song played over phones, laptops,Bluetooth or dac.
It would be nice to have a breakdown in your specific room while listening to both.
On that note like the sound of the second one as it feels more open to me.

I find comparison videos placed on UA-cam completely useless. I love the theory behind things and the conspiracy theories behind the ideas, but by the time all the digital processing is done, there is no warmth left in the sound. Even if the older technology had warmth, it is gone by the time all the processing and compression is performed to get a video to my computer / phone / tv via UA-cam.

Hi sir, thank you for your comment. I worked for network TV as a sound recording engineer. Digital multitrack 32 channel recorder was used to eliminate hiss noise and efficient 2 channel mix down processing. Crystal clear sound master tapes were delivered to LP manufacturers. It was digital revolutionary trend from 1980' in music industry. Thank u. Young

Thanks for your comment. IMHO, I agree with you but I can't agree with you in some parts. Tube amps use OPTs to match impedance so some part of harmonics are decreased resulting soft hearing feelings. And because of hysteresis curve, sound is naturally comoressed. It's same if SS amp output stage is coupled with OPTs. There are lots of hi quality SS amps and could be better than tube amps. Have a great day Young
