My guess is that the producers gathered the whole staff together before the start of production. The showed them a screening of M. Night Shyamalan's movie and said: "NOT THAT."
The showrunner has said in a interview that he hasn't watched the movie and refuses to do so.. he's not going to make the show with shitty negative image about the whole thing.
I remember being sooo hyped back in high school 2010 to see the greatest show of my young life become the greatest movie.....I left the theater crushed. My soul ripped in half, and all the light in the world extinguished. They should all be in prison for the criminal film.

I genuinely will never forget the look my mom gave me when she asked "okay, THAT is your favorite show?" and i spent the rest of the car ride home after the movie explaining to her how awful the adaptation was and how amazing the show really is because she and i hated the movie so much 😭
I'm QUITE proud to say that I have NEVER watched that absolutely disgusting horror of a film. All I had to see were still photographs of Appa & I said "NOPE, I don't think so". They made him look so hideous. At any rate, this looks great, I'm wishing all the best to everyone involved & especially to ATLA fans worldwide, I hope it's everything you guys want it to be. Respect. 🙏🏽

Everyone’s a dude. Also Toph is season 2-the end so she won’t be onscreen at all. Azula may have some intros/flashback scenes in 1 but her intro is season 2 where she’s given her mission to capture Zuko/Iroh/avatar/earth kingdoms and she succeeds in a lot of it.
it’s gonna be awesome to watch if we get a season 2 but it’s not set because the views aren’t in for the first season yet
The creators have stated that Azula has more of a role in Season 1. My guess is they expanded on the flashbacks during the storm. Azula was shortly shown during the agni kai but only really played a role in flashbacks during zuko alone. They could probably flash it out more early so she isnt such a seemingly random introduction to the story.@@arianaink100
The first scenes are supposed to be the siege and genocide of the air nomads. It's also a speculation that the one old firebender is actually Zosin (the firelord who started the war) fighting against monk gyatso (aang father figure). These are exclusive scenes because the original series doesn't ever show the actual attack on the air temples.

@@SnoWbullllomg I think that would make sense because we saw gyatso took out a bunch of fire nation soldiers on his own (from the bones) so maybe sozin needed to fight him personally to take him down
The fandom lived in harmony until M. Night Shyamalan attacked. But I believe Netflix can save the adaptations.

I'm also in my 40s... my son is 23 and we first watched AtLA when he was in single digits. We've watched the series three times together since then. You wouldn't BELIEVE how pumped we are to watch this together now ♥
My biggest take away from this trailer is that these creators actually watched the animated series. Unlike M. Night Shmadoodle. And my boy Sokka seems PERFECT. I can't WAIT!!
Same, never saw original, son who is 17 watched it w me in 2011 and then immediately into korra. Daughters 10 and 9 watched w son and I in 2018ish and we all watched the trailer together. The girls luckily know nothing of the movie that doesn't exist in ba sing se so their first live action excitement really touched me
Actually Daniel Dae Kim ( Lord Ozai ) he’s coming from Korea, same as Paul ( General Iroh ) also from Korea. They are best actor!

The show will cover season 1. There are 8 episodes an hour long. There will be some changes to the story and episodes like the great divide will not be featured. If this goes well we are likely getting a season/book two.

I kinda wish Zuzu's scar was just more, more of his face/ear. It feels small like a birthmark
Me too, but if everything else is good I'll get over it.
My first thought was that it looks like a birthmark, but not because of the size since I have seen people with larger birthmarks. I am kinda okay with size, but wish it had a little more texture to it so it looks like scarring from a burn caused by a "magical" flame.
I think they'll probably enhance the scar for additional seasons based on fan feed back. That's not a huge change for them to make in future episodes, nothing they can do for season 1 though, since it's done.
I am so excited for Kiawentiio as Katara. She is such a scene stealer in Anne with an E and I'm excited for her in this. IF all else fails I hope these young actors get to shine
Thank you! I was about to look it up because she looked so familiar! The lack of resolution in her storyline is my main gripe with Anne with an E which is otherwise a great show
soo crazy to think this started filming 3-4 years ago and now it's finally coming out!
The filming was later but was announced over 5 yrs ago, been waiting a long time for this one.
I hope they're already filming for additional seasons. So the actors wont age to quickly between seasons.
@@amberbouley I think they're going to adjust the timeline for Sozins comet to 3 yrs, maybe 2 to account for the actors aging. Gordon Cormier's voice already dropped and he's likely to hit a growth spurt by the time season two production gets rolling or wraps up.

Daniel Dae Kim playing Lord Ozai is an American of South Korean descent. Not Japanese. Just wanted to correct that. He became popular for his role as Jin in the hit show Lost.

I watched this show when it aired every week with my dad. The two of us went to the movie together and were devastated. I am SO excited for this!
My 10 year old nephew is taking the train to spend the weekend with me the 23th, we're having a series marathon! His older sister got the LOTR marathon when she was 10, but my nephew isn't ready for that yet. So this is perfectly released for aunthy-nephew, quality time. We're both HYPED!
Somebody call the Doctor, because this trailer caused absolute hype! This looks so so sooo much better than anticipated. The characters, the bending, visuals/set pieces. Everything looks like it has come together to create an amazing live action adaptation of ATLA that everyone can enjoy, new and old.
Ya know what would have made this better? If the drawing of Aang, Zuko pins to the wall, was Aang from the cartoon. Done in the same style as what’s in the trailer but with the big eyes, lol! 😂 And then . . . it’s passed off as creative license . . . 🤣🤣🤣

the news of netflix doing a live action came out around 2018-2019, that's 5+ yrs of knowing it's cooking but not knowing what nor when are we getting it, plus all the leaks and news, the situation with the og writers leaving then getting their own studio for avatar content. it was a crazy ride and finally seeing what await us after all the ups and downs got me so happy I even cried after watching the trailer! I originally watched the animation when I was 6-7yo, (rewatched it so many times ever since) and now after so many years seeing it being done justice makes so so happy🫂 I can't wait to watch it and also see you guys react to it, now all we gotta do is wait a little bit more!!

I’m so damn excited for this. “I did my waiting”…17 “years of it” (although I wasn’t in Azkaban, I have been waiting since even before the series ended. I’m pretty sure it was announced in 2007.)

This whole trailer won me over. I saw like a ton of references from the cartoon to this amazing live action adaptation, in my opinion this is already one of the best things that I had seen than the 2010 movie. Plus When I saw June, jet and bumi in this I had felt my childhood was reborn, they legit COOKED this series.
From the cast and the visuals, it looks like they are very much on the right track. Now let's see if the writing and pacing will be there too. But I'm cautiously optimistic :D

We will be getting 8 1 hour long episodes, so half an hour more than the animated run time book 1, it is covering book 1, and also showing us things that were only talked about on the show😭 i imagine it will be a huge success so we should hopefully be getting at least 3 seasons covering all the animated series🙏🏼 I just need Toph😭😭
I watched the original cartoons with my son and daughter when they were kids. My son comes home from the National Guard on the 9th of March and I'll be waiting until he gets back to sit and watch it with them.
Daniel Dae Kim is Korean, not Japanese. But HOLY SHIT he pulls off Ozai SO well. I don't think there's a single bad piece of casting in this show.

I think my only critique is that I wish Zuko's scar had more texture, like how you were saying about Dwight's scar BUT I'm so excited about this adaptation, still slightly nervous lol but mostly excited! It looks really good! The casting, the effects, the costumes, everything looks so good! I can't wait! Just a month to go!!

I was 17 when the 1st season aired and I never missed an episode! I am 35 now and I have been waiting for something like what Netflix is doing with the series. Superhopeful! Thanks you guys for being just as excited as all of us!

The animal the Answer was trying to remember was the spirit of the forest that was upset that the forest got burned down. He became like a panda or something after Aang calmed it down. I think its name was Hei Bai.

The story of the film-which-doesn’t-exist and casting is that they cast Jackson Argath one as “Soh-kah” because he looks like he could be Nicola Peltz’s brother… and they cast HER because her dad was a bigwig executive so getting her increased the chance of the film being made. And they almost cast Jesse McCartney as Zuko but someone realised that at least ONE of the cast should be definitely Asian-descended (Noah Ringer who played “Ohng” claimed to have some Asian or Native American blood maybe but I don’t know if that’s true).
Oak is right, with this TV show we have a lot of groups, my dad is 52 and he'll be watching this with me. I'm 25 and I was a kid when the animated tv show came out and we are so excitec. This tv show will have old people, young people, kids, new fans, you name it.

I literally called my mom yesterday saying to watch this masterpiece, DAMN IM SO EXCITED FOR THIS, we waited so many years to see the proper live adaptation and im telling you for sure it could not have been better! i feel like im a kid again and I have to thank Netflix for this ❤absolutely loved your reactions guys especially knowing how much you enjoyed the original show

In the German version they almost casted all the voice actors of the original series, when i first watched the German trailer i almost fell of my chair because I couldn’t believe it!! I think the only main voice that they changed is Aang but that makes sense because the voice actor is all grown up and it would sound kind of weird if they used a grown ups voice for a kid hahaha

Daniel Dae KIm is actually Korean but he is a top notch actor out there. He did an interview with comedian bobby lee and there was a clip where he was like oh fire lord ozai and bobby was like omg that's who you're playing?! but he was super excited lol

Most of us have all waited for nearly 6 years since 2018 when it was announced. Every bit of info we have ever gotten leaks, shots, casting, comments, etc. has prepared us for this.
they also recently announced that the cabbage guy will be appearing in the show and will be played by the same actor who did his voice in the original animated series.
Yup we OG fans are so relieved, everything is put into thoughts. The details, CGI, characters just everything is perfect. We really needed this after the AHEM *mover*.
Doesn’t matter when we got into it we all have love for this show. The greatest cartoon of all time done right can potentially put this up there as one of the best franchises ever.

It helps that the original creators giv3 their input and help write the first 3(?) episodes into this before they backed out of the project due to "creative differences"(i think that is why they back out).

Its very cool to hear as OnePiece being a standard now, because it got the Heart..and with Practical sets even. Avatar as a story, is condensed comparatively with spectacular elemental stuff, which definitely demands a lot of CGI in S1..
but OP fights progress with time, while it had the heart, the boom factor will come later on, and I am sure that ATLA will resonate better for people due to this reason alone..given they get the heart as well.

Hii, sorry to be this person but Daniel Dae Kim is Korean not Japanese 😁, he was born in Busan, South Korea. Love your reaction Oak!! (Zaddy) Dae Kim is the perfect Ozai. I remember when Ozai’s face was first revealed in the show and I was shocked at how good looking he seemed in animation. And then his intensity increased and became more monstrous. Just such perfect casting.
And thank you for calling out the diversity :) I’m so so happy for this cast, I have very high hopes for the adaptation.
That beast with no eyes was the Hei Bei spirit (I probably spelt that wrong).. Sometimes it looks like a giant demi gorgon and sometimes it looks like a giant PANDA.,
As some who watched both avatar and Korra live on tv, to see this trailer and know the true potential there is for this series brings tears to my eyes. 2/22 can’t come soon enough!

I'm 57, and saw the original of Nick - I'm hyped fir this presentation on Netflix.
It’s such a little thing, but after M. Night’s Aang being stoic and nothing like him, I’m so happy to at least see this Aang smiling.
