Honestly, we have to give props to Mr Shyamalan. If he didn't make such a dumpster fire of an adaptation, Netflix probably wouldn't have put in so much effort to get this one done right. 2nd highest production costs of any Netflix show only next to S4 of Stranger Things
The thing about the creators leaving this project, while a lot of people are saying it was 'creative differences', it was actually the creators getting a large cash offer to make an Avatar studio and producing multiple new animated projects in the Avatar world.
I actually can’t wait to see your reaction to the movie because your so sweet and your gonna want to avoid saying anything bad but it’s gonna suck so much.
The original creators did leave over creative differences however, it is important to know that the person who took over as showrunner was also involved in producing the animated series and before they left the team, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko - the two guys who created the animated series, sat down with Albert Kim, the guy who took over, and they had detailed talks about the back stories and other details. So control stayed in the hands of someone who had significant involvement in creating the original show and the actual creators of the animation did have a great deal of input to this live action before they left. Remember the project started in 2019 and they worked on it until June 2020 before leaving and the shooting started November 2021 - which means the original show creators where on the team for most of the development and much of the writing. Also important - my understanding is that just about everyone involved in the live action were already big fans of the animated series. One last point - now I may be wrong here as there is a bit of reading between the lines, though mostly this is just putting all the official statements I have heard, but I believe the reason the creators left was that they wanted to explore aspects that were not in the original series but which they had thought of back then and decided they didn't have enough time to include, or in some cases they gave hints in the animated series but now they wanted to expand. Netflix wanted them to hold a bit closer to the material already done because they were afraid that if too much new material was added it might not be accepted by the fans. So while the presentation of a lot of things will be changed and some things such as the attack on the air temples which was only spoken of but never shown in the animation will be added. Netflix was not comfortable about entirely unknown story lines being added in. Now, IF that understanding is correct, then I'd say this is a case where the departure of the the original creators is not that much of a bad sign. Not to say I wouldn't want brand new lore added, but I'm much more interested in the presentation of the lore that already exists - and it seems that is not where the creative difference lay.
I totally agree with this because Bryan and Michael left around the same time Avatar studios was announced so I think their creative "differences" was that they wanted to explore their new stories via animation and netflix can produce a live action in the meantime
I totally agree with how the wholesomeness is what's important. The bending and choregraphy is super key of course, but I think what makes the show so endearing to fans even into adulthood is just how wholesome and touching the show's themes and characters are.

I love the detail on what I’m guessing is either Zhao’s ship or Azula’s ship (the first one that we see in the trailer). It’s so badass and so pretty. 5. From what I read, Michael and Bryan left the Netflix adaptation for 2 reasons. To set up their own studio and also because they wanted to make changes to the show, not Netflix. I guess there were things about the OG cartoon that they didn’t like in retrospect and they wanted to fix. Netflix wanted to remain faithful (probably because they’ve seen what happens when you don’t 😛 ). I don’t know if this scuttlebutt is true or not but it does make sense to me. I didn't realize this till just now... the "fireballs" flying over, that look like attacks on the air temple at the beginning of the trailer I now believe are actual people using fire bending to jet into the city. Look at them carefully and each "fireball" has 2 sources of flame (hands and feet presumably.)
Everytime i see this trailer i get more excited. I cant wait. Feb is my birthday month, the 16th is my birthday, this show being live action is a great late 30th birthday present. Ill forever be a fan of atla
Watch the abomination movie because 1) it's canon, every ATLA fan went through this 2) you need to watch this to know how bad an adaption can be so that we can judge the netflix series more carefully
I have been cautiously optimistic for most of this show’s production, and I still can’t really say I’m 100% on board, but this trailer has done a really good job of alleviating many of my concerns. Regarding Korra: The writing isn’t as strong as ATLA, as it was initially intended to only be one season. That first season is fairly decent, but it kinda goes downhill from there. It also makes some weird additions to the lore in the later seasons. I don’t personally enjoy the show as a whole, but it does have a handful of good moments and one of the best side characters from the whole franchise. Regarding the M. Night movie: If not for the content that you could get out of it, I would honestly recommend avoiding the movie entirely. Even if you don’t look at it as an adaptation, it simply fails as a movie. The pacing is terrible, with some scenes lasting far longer than necessary, while others just don’t get the attention they need. The writing is atrocious, leading to several characters saying things in unnatural ways. There is a near-constant narration explaining things that don’t need to be explained, either because they just happened moments ago, are just about to happen, or are even happening during the narration. The comedy is nonexistent aside from moments that are so bad that it’s funny. Most of the acting (or possibly the directing) is stiff, with little to no emotion. And lastly, the choreography is boring and often disjointed from the bending it’s supposed to represent. My two cents aside, if you do choose to watch them, then, “Do the Thing.”
You should watch the Original M. Night Film from like 2010 I see people saying you shouldn’t watch it, but it is a masterpiece at being shockingly bad. The face palms and disappointment you would have would make it a fun reaction!
Judging by the other person flying with Aang, this shouldn't be the Earth Kingdom (7:40) - it should be the Air Temple changed by The Mechanist for the refugees, and the other person flying would be his son, Teo!
Just finished binging this whole playlist and you've got a new subscriber ^_^ I hope you watch the Legend of Korra after you finish the Last Airbender. They highlight a lot of new forms of bending
This Live Action is gonna be TV-14 as opposed to TV-Y-7 like the original animated series. I do definitely think that this being live-action is gonna be a factor, as well as probably not shying away from the more brutal aspects of war, such as showing more explicit injuries.
The movie isn't terrible if you consider that it's a 90 minute summary of the entire first season. At least it wasn't for me. Then again, the movie was my intro to the world. In fact, I watched all of Korra before The Last Airbender. Personally, changes have to happen when adapting things to different mediums. Book to series, book to movie, animated 30 minute episodes to live action 60 minute episodes. We already know the Netflix series isn't going to be a direct copy of the animated series. They've already said that the opening sequence is going to be different. I prefer to be entertained so I might be more forgiving than others. Guess we'll see.
Idk man I found the best part of the finale was Zuko and Azulas fight since she was a well thought out character and not as 2D as her dad. I guess only time will tell if it was a good choice.
Hi! May I suggest you watch the film Cinema Paradiso the first version not the directors cut. I think you will love this film. As they say this film is love letter to the film industry. Looking forward to you reacting to it!
So excited to see this and for you to see it! I will say though...🤔 it would be pretty interesting for you to watch the Shamasham movie after the nextflix series? Would give you a unique perspective but also be hilarious 😂
@@thecocoacouch They do so well with that in the show already as well, so I am excited for your next reaction video! Love what you're doing btw, one of my favorite reactors since I found your channel.
There will be a time jump in the live action, because of how the actors are aging. It will be interesting to see how that changes things. Also the CGI may not be fully finished yet so there's a chance it will look better in the actual show. Also I find it interesting that people are SO worried about the original creators bailing when a LOT of people don't like Legend of Korra which they also were involved in. For me it's only a small concern especially compared to how cancel-happy Netflix is about even shows that are popular or do well. That's the bigger concern for me.
I don't know if my biggest concern would be if the CGI would be good enough, for a Netflix live action adaptation... It'd probably be staying true to the characterizations, themes, and feel of the original show. Trailer looks decent enough, but I'll not hold my breath, and wait to see the actual show itself to see if they don't do it injustice that they've trained most people to expect by now.
So you asked the question... "Who's narrating?" ...I thought with out a doubt it was Iroh at first, but when he says: "The world needs the Avatar... It needs you Aang" ...we don't hear anything like this from Iroh in the animated show this early... I still think the voice might be Iroh, but it also is conceivably one of the air nomad Elders telling him the world needs him before he runs away.
I don't know if it's Uncle Iroh, Monk Gyatso, or Avatar Roku - until it's confirmed - but I did see Netflix's caption for the trailer in the video "Trailer Breakdown with Cast" showing it as Uncle Iroh saying the intro here. *UPDATE* In the video "Avatar: The Last Airbender Producers Reveal Secrets From New Trailer" executive producer Albert Kim and executive producer, director, and VFX supervisor Jabbar Raisani confirm it is *Monk Gyatso* doing the narration.
I think you should've waited until finishing the show before watching this. You haven't gotten to the Ozai reveal in the third season of the animated show. The live action version doesn't keep his face obscure. It's a different choice but I get why they did it
We shouldn't get our hopes up high. The bending can still be bad in the final version of the show. This here is a trailer, its supposed to look cool and amazing 😅 so don't let yourself fool ya by letting them smear honey around your mouth, or rather eyes, lol.
The casting they did for this new live action is surprising, especially with Ozi, once you see him in the cartoon you'll understand that it's pretty impressive, I'd say out of all of them him and Ang are the most accurate One-to-one depictions of their animated counterparts. Though Zucco, Aro, Soccer and Kotara look great too, except no blue eyes and Zucco could maybe have a worse scar but it's definitely much better than the movie depiction. Also I'm pretty sure the fire bender at the beginning was Sozen., everything between Roku and Sozen didn't get shown until season three, but it seems like with this new live action they're going to be showing all of that earlier because they're going to be including the Airbender genocide from when Sozen first started the war. Also the person speaking is most likely monk gateaux which is also who is defeating the fire benders in that first scene against Sozen which if true, is very impressive
I just hope this isn't a bait and switch. The previews have been great so far, casting looks perfect...but we were all so traumatized by M. Night's monstrosity. *shudders*
It’s only dirty because often companies sacrifice quality for cheap moments to satisfy the fans. Hope this answer makes sense. Fan service is fantastic on top of good writing.
The original creators may have left the project but they are still credited as writers for the first episode of the series. Also I'm not sure if this is true but I think I heard that the "creative differences" were actually the creators wanting to change things while Netflix wanted to stick closer to the original.
@@nonsobenaiah it's just an unfortunate situation that they tried to cast an indigenous actor and Ian Ousley apparently lied about his heritage. Taking POC roles away from POC actors is not a good thing.
I personally don't watch this show as its not in my interest. I have seen on the patreon people mention more trailer reactions, and just wanted to say I really hope you don't do that. For your own sanity. I personally stopped watching trailers of anything I wanted to see just before iron man 3 came out (like 10 years ago now), and everything I have watched since has been so much better for it. I like to go back after and then watch the trailer, and it really does confirm my thoughts on it. At best, it reveals how the thing is shot and the grandeur of it all which definitely ruins aspects of film making. At worst, your imagination runs wild and you make up something better in your head and are left disappointed in how the movie actually ends up.
well as a hardcore fan of Avatar this will probably be good BUT why does it need an almost 1:1 live action remake of an over the top cartoon in the first place? I rather would have just a new animated avatar show. feels like just a nostalgia cashgrab from Netflix. No idea why everybody is so hyped about this.
whats the problem with nostalgia? This show meant so much to so many of us. And reliving this "first time watching" feeling is a thing I look forward to. Even if the main story line is set in stone. Besides imo it is kind of a tribute to the greatness of this series and meant to honor it. And I don't even think it's such a big cashgrab scince I guess most of the people in the target age group already have access to Netflix. And besides all this: why complaining the franchise is expanding? You do get your wanted animated movie, even by the original creators. So you get what you want. And seeing a childhood memory reimagined with the modern possibilities of cinematography can't be too bad ...
It’s not like this show is stopping the production of new Avatar content. The original creators are spending their time doing that and not this live action show. It’s just exciting to me to see Avatar back in the spotlight and to possibly see character arcs more delved into with this show and maybe bring new perspectives… because this isnt going to be a 1:1 remake.
They made it precisely liveaction to reach a wider audience bec like it or not, animation is still not a medium treated seriously. It is a retelling of a story in terms of visual and a different medium. I think it is weirder to question the hype around this especially for a fan since it never had a live action in a decade or more that is actually decent.
@@gltteratiso far it seems a lot like the lion king remake....which was also pointless. I can only hope that it gives a different perspective to the original animation. We should really be addressing how underappreciated animation is instead...
The trailer looks pretty good. I’m going to give the Netflix show a try but I’m a bit wary because I also read that the creators of the animated show, who were set to head this project, stepped away because it didn’t align with their vision. Netflix disregard for source material happened with The Witcher and it definitely damaged the potential. I hope they don’t do the same with Avatar.
Yeah but you gotta realize that avatar was written by 4 people and only 2 of them were involved and then left. These 2 have also stated that they didn’t like Suki as a character and that they’d remove Yue if they could do season 1 again. And they originally planned to not give zuko a redemption arc. Much respect to them for creating avatar, but they have done some questionable things since after atla. And they probably left because they got a better deal from nickelodeon to create their own animation studio. I’m not worried at all

8:54 Where are you hearing Ozai talking to Azula, out of curiosity? There doesn't seem to be anything like that in this trailer?
I'm so excited for this show!! And I'm also glad you're gonna watch the legend of Korra too!! It gets a lot of hate but I love it!!
YIP YIP! THE AVATAR HAS RETURNED!!!
I hope this new movie turns out better than the last one I’m exited but sceptical at the same time I really want it to be good
Great video . Will you be reviewing Wonka?
"I haven't even seen the firelord in the show yet."
Yeah. That was completely intentional. The fact he's show so early on here is a bad sign.
Idk man I found the best part of the finale was Zuko and Azulas fight since she was a well thought out character and not as 2D as her dad. I guess only time will tell if it was a good choice.
You can't really appreciate this till you see the movie if you can call it that and I'm waiting impatiently for your reaction to that one 😅
All quiet on the western front please. Its a good movie.🙏
Seeing live action Ozai before ever seeing OG Ozai is wild :P
Somehow makes him seem more menacing in the animated series for me.
@@thecocoacouch They do so well with that in the show already as well, so I am excited for your next reaction video! Love what you're doing btw, one of my favorite reactors since I found your channel.
I'm still sad about Zuko's scar. It looks like he got punched :(
Oscar we love you too much to make you watch that movie 😭
There will be a time jump in the live action, because of how the actors are aging. It will be interesting to see how that changes things. Also the CGI may not be fully finished yet so there's a chance it will look better in the actual show.
Also I find it interesting that people are SO worried about the original creators bailing when a LOT of people don't like Legend of Korra which they also were involved in. For me it's only a small concern especially compared to how cancel-happy Netflix is about even shows that are popular or do well. That's the bigger concern for me.
I'm trying to not let my hopes get too high. ..... it's hard lol
Are you going to do reactions to the live series on Patreon?
I don't know if my biggest concern would be if the CGI would be good enough, for a Netflix live action adaptation... It'd probably be staying true to the characterizations, themes, and feel of the original show.
Trailer looks decent enough, but I'll not hold my breath, and wait to see the actual show itself to see if they don't do it injustice that they've trained most people to expect by now.
Or maybe Stranger Things which is allso verry good but completely different.
Book 3: Fire will make some of those scenes make more sense. Be prepared. The finale is incredible on the edge of your seat battles
11:25 it's true
i honestly think it's Monk Gyatso narrating.
My first thought it was maybe avatar Roku?
I don't know if it's Uncle Iroh, Monk Gyatso, or Avatar Roku - until it's confirmed - but I did see Netflix's caption for the trailer in the video "Trailer Breakdown with Cast" showing it as Uncle Iroh saying the intro here.
*UPDATE*
In the video "Avatar: The Last Airbender Producers Reveal Secrets From New Trailer" executive producer Albert Kim and executive producer, director, and VFX supervisor Jabbar Raisani confirm it is *Monk Gyatso* doing the narration.
ty for solving that for us... that was my best guess but I never considered Roku either which was also a very good guess. TY@@Evieteresa
I think you should've waited until finishing the show before watching this. You haven't gotten to the Ozai reveal in the third season of the animated show. The live action version doesn't keep his face obscure. It's a different choice but I get why they did it
Are you going to be able to finish the animation before this live action comes out?!
Literally a week prior 😆
We shouldn't get our hopes up high.
The bending can still be bad in the final version of the show. This here is a trailer, its supposed to look cool and amazing 😅 so don't let yourself fool ya by letting them smear honey around your mouth, or rather eyes, lol.
I like how Netflix remembered to include "Avatar" in the title, unlike the 2010 trash
Yay!!!!!!!!!
Send word to the Avatar fans, Avatar Aang is returning
I hope we see throthing at the mouth guy and cabbige guy.
Yaasss legend of Korra too! Just because it’s a good follow up from the series, but brace yourself for the last Airbender movie.. 😬🥴
The last air bender movie that’s the abomination was- let’s just say it’s frightening 😭💀
“Sokka looks like the perfect casting” uhhhhhh agree to disagree on that one
Def allow yourself the break and watch Arcane. Then take another break, for like a week, because Arcane will break you and you'll love it for it. Fun.
Ngdom without any opposition.
I just hope this isn't a bait and switch. The previews have been great so far, casting looks perfect...but we were all so traumatized by M. Night's monstrosity. *shudders*
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se😵💫
why is fan service such a dirty word nowadays? It makes people happy, i say keep doing it (maybe not as much in shipping)
Cancelled Netflix a year ago or so. Guess I'm gonna have to swallow my pride and sign-up again for Avatar. Can't miss it.
It’s so painful and hard to watch the movie, good luck.
white sokka is a no
Who do you want to play it then, let him nail the character first.
@@nonsobenaiah it's just an unfortunate situation that they tried to cast an indigenous actor and Ian Ousley apparently lied about his heritage. Taking POC roles away from POC actors is not a good thing.
@@brooksgray9276 please explain who are poc actors I've no idea?
@@nonsobenaiah POC means people of color. And in this instance specifically native/indigenous people.
Noooo
Be wary of the movie, its soooo bad
The movie which shall not be named is not just pretty awful, it's abysmal, it's abhorrent.
@@IsraelLlerenaso the original creators are giving us a new animation.
I’m not worried at all
@@olavbacker249!!!!! Yes!!! You are so right. I am not one of those Avatar fans who worship Mike & Bryan because a lot of great decisions that i love about the show weren’t written by them. Sure, they’re the creators, i get that. But those other writers did a fantastic job helping them create a great story.
@@olavbacker249also girl Michael Dante Dimartino was an executive producer on 2010’s The Last Airbender, so their involvement doesn’t necessarily mean its going to end up amazing.
Still not sure what the point of the remake is 🤷♀️
:D
Not gonna lie, you should watch the movie first before watching the netflix series😂 just so you can experience the dissapointment of it and have a much better time with the netflix series
Why would you want to torture him! LOL.
Please don't watch the movie... 😫 It will haunt you
isnt this movie already made and then cut I dont get it why make first movie twice:D
This isn't a movie it's a whole tv show and also they got more budget and better cgi technology then the other one and also because that other one was a flop so we can only hope this one is better
@@Eric123_lol didnt they literally change one of the main characters view on woman :D this is gonna fuck up even more:D
