Great tutorial. I love how you manage to make a tutorial for a specific purpose and also fill it with mini multi purpose tips along the way. Awesome, thanks.
great tutorial :)! few questions: - when doing the primary roads, the second boolean removes most of my primary roads, any idea why that be happening? it doesnt do that on your video. - for the remaining roads, do you follow the same path/steps applied to primary roads for all of them and then export import ? if you do export and import of primary roads as well, is there any reason why you keep the processing tree for primary roads? (it slows down the processing of the scene for all following steps). - This might be a super silly question (I am super noob in Houdini), the end result is pretty much the OSM import geometry so, why do we need all the steps? Thanks a lot!
really awesome.. is it possible give me a hint how can make street with uv so it follows the street. I am new to houdini and trying to learn it maybe my question is so noob. any way thankyou in advance if you help
How do you edit the height of each building? Ive tried creating an atribute named "aaa" (without quotation marks) and in the "Standard level Height" i tried to place the value "@aaa" (without quotation marks) and it doesnt work. Using the Geometry spreadsheet i saw that the values were coming to each primitive but the software only changed the height of 1 building, and it changed it to 0. Im new to Houdiny, please help.
Hi ! I have a question. I'm pretty new to houdini and it seems like everything related to poly modeling is crazy hard and slow compared to maya or 3ds max. Is there a reason we'd use Houdini over the more traditional 3d programs for modeling ?
Hi! Great question, Houdini might not be the most useful tool for classical polymodelling -you can but it is in classical cases not very practical. I personally use blender and houdini combined. You want to use Houdini for models which need to be procedurally -imagine having a restaurant scene where all the tables are individual composed with glasses, plates, chairs aso, or multiple bridges across canions which in its system are the same. You might not want to model each of them manually, but rather creating a script and parameters you can adjust to generate infinite variations on the fly:) hope this answers your question
need hlp some reason my buildings arent scaling at diff heights they all coming in as the same height and i have a down town area with some skylines thats scaling with the same size of all the other buildings anyone have any idea why ?
i'm having a issue with curve causing houdini to crash i go only in the part to import the OSm inside the houdini just fine but when i try to draw the curve houdini just crash, pls if u can help with that like just a little tip would help me alot go foward on the tutorial
hm sounds weird, should definitely not happen... is the curve tool in general behaving like this or only when you have imported the osm file? also keep always an eye on the RAM with heavy files. further try to download the scene file in the decription to check for any mistakes

With the shown OSM import you could extract central lines representing the river looking for the prim Attribute "waterway", but this might be not very useful to get the surface... I just tried out another way in the same area: You could use the Mapbox node instead to get the Topology, including the texture. If you increase the height scale in the mapbox node you can see that the water stays at the same level. With a "convertheightfield" you convert the topology to polygon and then with the "delete node" you could delete the points above a certain height to have the waterways left. =) hope this helps, I can send you the file with the test if you need. PM me on Instagram. @mitzu_taimatsu
