Can’t wait for this event, Debs! I’ll be doing the group read, for sure. I’ve also got some collections on my kindle. Plus I have collections of ghost stories by Victorian women and also by Edith Wharton. I always like to read Dickens in December also, and I expect I will this year too. I think I’m ready. Let the fun begin!
I’m really looking forward to this too and I’m so glad you are taking part. The Victorian Women’s ghost stories sounds fabulous and, of course, Dickens at Christmas is pretty much an essential 😊
I just stumbled across your channel thanks to UA-cam suggesting this video. I was already planning to read some ghost stories for Christmas. I usually read ghost stories all year long. Being a ghost story fan, I love the idea of reading ghost stories for Christmas, so I will definitely be joining in. Ghost stories set in gothic mansions are my favorites. I'm already participating in Katie from Books and Things' Dickens Christmas readalong. There are some ghost stories in the lineup, such as A Christmas Carol. But we already read that a couple of weeks ago. I have quite a few Victorian ghost story collections. I also have a couple of BBC Ghost Stories for Christmas DVD sets, with TV adaptations of some of the Victorian ghost stories. It seems like a good time of year to watch a few of those as well. Thank you and the other host/co-hosts for hosting this reading event.
I have to confess to being just a little bit obsessed with Delphi Classics. I have so many 😂. But they are great for things like the lesser known short stories and things you may not expect from an author. 😊
i've had The Oxford Book of English Ghost Stories, chosen by Michael Cox & R.A. Gilbert, on my shelf for so long I've no memory of when or how I got it, and I never remember to read it at this time of year, which, as even Americans know, is the proper time for reading ghost stories. It's got ~42 stories, written between 1829 and 1981 and I this will be the year I finally read them, beginning on December 1st. This will be a wonderful diversion from all that's giong on that I don't want to think about right now. Perfect! Thank you, everyone, for scheduling this readathon.
I’m very much looking forward to getting started in December :) I appreciate your recommendations, Debs. I am definitely going to give Wilde's _The Canterville Ghost_ a read for some holiday humor and cheer!
lol. That’s a throwback from my newspaper editing days where some days it seemed like I spent half my life removing exclamation marks from reporters’ articles 😂. Love your choice of authors, all of whom I really enjoy 😊
I'll definitely be joining in - this is just my cup of tea. I own both The Old Nurse's Story (unread) and A Christmas Carol, so will read those. I only recently read The Woman in Black and The Canterville Ghost, two favourites of mine but may reread them later in December. Looking forward to it.
Thanks Ros. I’m a tiny bit addicted to the Delphi Classics, such a good way to get all an author’s novels cheaply but also I love the extra stuff like short stories, poetry and plays I didn’t even know existed 😊
Hey Debs! Thanks for reminding me about this event. I absolutely will be participating reading miscellaneous ghost stories - some MR James for sure, some Robert Shearman, and possibly some Elizabeth Jane Howard. She wrote a book with Robert Aikman I believe that has 3 stories from her and 3 from him.

I had to laugh when you took Poe to task over those exclamation marks:) I think I'll be taking in some M.R. James, E.F. Benson and Hugh Walpole.
