I'd love for a new Virtua Tennis on Switch. Been a fan since the first Dreamcast game. Such an incredibly fun tennis series. Been wanting to get Mario Tennis and think it looks like a fantastic game, but the content vs. price makes it a tough buy. Virtua Tennis just nails it so perfectly.
I'm getting my virtua tennis fix on my phone, but wouldn't say no to a Switch version.
Virtua Tennis was the all-time best tennis franchise. We really need a new entry.
Mario Tennis is a close second, but the sequels got kind of wacky with the abilities, where VT was simple and arcadey but still pretty true to the sport.
That said, as far as Mario Tennis Aces is concerned, I'd say it's pretty full of content, especially these days. If price per content is your major issue, you should know that it's more than fine.
Used to absolutely love virtua tennis on the Dreamcast and longed for another one even though I'm not really into tennis!

Good review Brandon. I've enjoyed tennis (games) since Super Tennis and Jimmy Connors on the SNES as well as Wimbledon on the game gear. Think last one I really played was Topspin 2 on the 360. Shame they couldn't serve up something decent. Or even average.

Firstly, I feel you have saved me hundreds of USD, on games I was initially intrigued by. Secondly, there was a Game Boy tennis game I loved and I forget the name but I’m hoping it comes to Nintendo Online, eventually...cuz that tennis game was glorious.

Ouch. Was really hoping with Big Ant at the helm, this would have been the tennis game on Switch. How disappointing. Thanks for doing the hard slog for us guys.

I think the review is mixing up the dev teams as I don't think Breakpoint had anything to do with this game, although in fairness, its a little complex... (takes deep breath)
(1) AO tennis was developed and published by Big Ant in Australia only in Jan 2018 (to coincide with the AO tournament) - it was very buggy... they then published AO International Tennis (same game with a new name and a few bug fixes) in May around the rest of the world. It was still very buggy.
(2) Big Ben Interactive then published Tennis World Tour in April (developed by Breakpoint studios) to much derision as it was so buggy and feature incomplete. Both games were patched up to some extent in the coming 6 months but the following Year Breakpoint and BigBen published the TWT Roland Garros Edition (same as TWT but with a few extra licenced players and courts) at which point I think Breakpoint more or less disappeared.
(3) In Jan 2020 Big Ant developed AO Tennis 2 but it was published internationally by Nacon (BigBen's new name).
(4) Finally, Nacon (who own the TWT IP) got Big Ant (who own the AO game IP but have to pay for the branding licence) to develop the sequel to Tennis World Tour 2 without Breakpoint's involvement... creating this weird situation where Big Ant is now developing its own rival game and publishing both under the same publisher, barely 8 months apart...

A tennis fan here. You really covered up the worst parts of the game and what is good about it. In this review I totally agree with the final verdict. It is just the perfect score.

Wow! I can’t believe how bad this game is! There just isn’t any part of that review that makes me want to even consider buying it but the real clincher, if I needed it, was the price! How the hell are they charging £54 for this? At least Dick Turpin wore a mask, this is downright daylight robbery!!! I don’t think I would pay £5 let alone £54! Thanks once again for your reviews they have sure cost me a load of money on some of the excellent games that have come out recently like Rebel Galaxy Outlaw and Under The Jolly Roger which I both love, but you have also saved me lots to as there have been some stinkers recently too. Keep up the amazing work guys

Super Tennis Blast is fun but I wouldn't say it's better than Aces!
The acme of tennis goodness was Virtua Tennis on the Dreamcast.
The nadir was Virtua Tennis on IOS, who perfected the mechanic of running upto the ball only to turn away as you were making your shot.
So not a lot of progress has been from a 10 year old (or thereabouts) mobile version.
Shame - I like tennis games but this isn't going to do it for me
The gameplay is shocking on switch. I still have no clue how to use the controls and is really hard to play

Is it THAT HARD to create a good tennis game!!! I mean, it's just a ball bouncing back and forth! SO MANY OTHER GAMES have MORE DIFFICULT graphics and gameplay!! We tennis fans just want a decent tennis game like VIRTUAL TENNIS but with an upgrade in graphics, that's all.

They churn out awful sports games with AAA prices, their Rugby games are awful as well.
I love a good sports game, no matter what the sport, but this is disappointing.

You aint lying there. Ive been wanting a game to match Virtua Tennis on Switch and I have been disappointed. Its pretty sad when a present day tennis game cant compare to one from 20 years ago
A bit like how Rugby hasn’t had a good game since Rugby 08, Tennis still hasn’t had a better game than Topspin 4 all these years later...

Too bad that this is the only one that's acceptable. Tennis games are a joy to play on the Switch.
On the Switch the ball is really hard to find - it seems to practically disappear a lot of times. Plus, the card system is lame.
Money -> Wasted.

The gameplay isn't even slightly better than Top Spin 4 and the graphics overall are just lacking. These devs should have taken a longer time to finish the game because it's really unpolished.

Why is it so difficult to create good tennis games? Can't we get a game that's at least comparable in simulation to the other sports titles?

@@daviddanser8011 I used to play that a lot about 10 years ago, so I don't know about the state of the game today, but although I ejoyed it a lot I have to say it never felt as realistic as people made it out to be.

Bought this game today, worst thing about it, can't score a point against AI plus my player likes to give up when the ball is hit into their side of the court and just never attempts to hit the ball. What a complete scam of a game. The developers should just quit their industry and go work in McDonalds.
They should sue this companies that release this piece of shit games, with all the technology and to bring this pitiful game. Top spin 4 is almost 11 years older and is light years better than this crap.
Tennis World Tour is the worst tennis game ever, worst experience ever so I don't think and see any difference in this shitty game. Please bring back Top Spin games.

@@jonsnow1342 I'm totally honest. I tried every Tennis game. The most "realistic" and real simulation of tennis is Full Ace Tennis , but it is only for PC unfortunately, but it is an incredible game, a true pure tennis. Graphics and animations arent good, but sufficient but gameplay is incredible. Pure simulation.
About switch, Id prefer AO tennis 2 for sure. TWT2 is a good game, but low FPS makes it unplayable on switch. Really, unplayable. TWT1 is good alternatively. I dont know how they can sell TWT2 in that way. If you like tennis, trust me, play Full Ace . It is difficult first time, but after you understand how it works, it will give you satisfaction, I can guarantee you. TWT2 or AO Tennis are arcade games compared to Full Ace.
