When sims 4 came out and I realized that it wasn't open world, I thought semi open world would be the next best thing. I don't mind meeting them in the middle and settling on semi open world as long as it works correctly and isnt half assed. There needs to be enough to do around the neighborhood and it needs to be sizeable, and for the love of plumbob I want tons of collectibles around so I can explore and collect!!!
I am cautiously looking forward to it... I've been playing the sims 2 again for the last couple of months, since high school years came out on sims 4. I just gave up ^^;

I love the idea of open world play if it’s seamless but in reality that rarely ever happens with Sims
I wish their personality *traits actually impact them* like in the sims 2. In the way they communicate with other sims and how they learn new skills etc.
That would be amazing! It would be so cool if it was like little things like sims that are more sad they will look more sad and maybe walk slower and maybe even with a lower posture
and sims 3, even with smth asic like traits affecting how your painting look
@@the_soulful_soul yes. In the sims 4 the animations are always the same no matter their traits, rendering it a bit pointless.
You can have a perfectionist sim cook at lower levels and they drop stuff like crazy. Meanwhile you have a clumsy one at mid level doing knife acrobatics like a pro…

@NANI-id3ie You're right but that's only if they're feeling a emotion. Ex: A gloomy sim that's mad will do the mad walk but will do a normal walk afterwards. Sorry if I wasn't clear and sorry for how long this is 😅
I did like how even in the sims 2, sims still reacted to their surroundings way more. They waved and smiled at an approaching sim, they were instantly affected by their surroundings more realistically than just changing moods every 5 seconds.
Yes! I hadn't played in forever I think since sims 1 when I was young and when I started playing sims 4 I noticed the difference in how they react to their environment. I remember when moving to a new house they would go in and look around each room and it would show whether they like it or not

Sims 4 really feels like it's from an alternate universe to me because it stands out so clearly in terms of quality and features in a negative sense.
this. i have gone back to the sims 3 rn cuz i just cannot catch a break when it comes to bugs and mods breaking in the sims 4. it runs poorly due to it's constantly game breaking bugs that just cause a shitton of lagg. like at least my sims 3 can run smoothly with the patch update and a few minor mods. but every time i manage to get 4 to work smoothly a new update breaks everything again. so yeah it's safe to say i cannot be bothered

@@litchtheshinigami8936 because The Sims 4 is totally fully spaghetti code and poorly stable compared to The Sims 2 and 3, even 3 is poorly optimized but it doesn't have more critical game-breaking bugs aside from Island Paradise bug and the routing issues.

Well they may have motivation to go harder for 5 thanks to paralives and the other life sim.
I know 2 reasons they would try harder, Life By You and Paralives, oh and there's actually another life simulation game, but I can't remember the name, I saw the ad for it and it's also new.
This time if simmers don't pressure ea to release the game ea might make a good sims 5 game :)

I do think that sims showing expressions/personality by their behaviour on screen is a big step in the right direction compared to the sims 4 emotion system. In the sims 2 I love how you can tell that a sim is shy by how sweetly they accept a compliment or that a mean sim can cheat whilst playing chess 🤣
Honestly, I'm not a massive fan of the whole facial emotions thing. Sure it'd simplify it, but I find expressions extremely to read, and they'd probably have to be really exaggerated to be easily understandable, particularly if you're switching around a lot in a larger household.
this. like in the sims 4 it just feels shallow. even simple interactions need to be brought back like how in the sims 2 children could plauy cops and robbers and in both sims 2 and sims 3 they could play tag. do homework together where as in the sims 4 none of that is a thing. the only close thing would be to "play make believe" but even then that's just a vocal interaction where i would have preferred it if they would actually run around and genuinely play. like idk have child spellcasters pick up a branch and act like they are casting magic (when they aren't) or have Alien children act like they are human and laugh about it by doing "human imitations" similar to the imitate mermaids interaction but more fleshed out and charming.
If they do this, they need to have an emotions UI that you can toggle on and off. Some people, especially with certain kinds of neurodivergence, find expression difficult to read. Changing emotions to only facial features would make a huge aspect of gameplay stressful and inaccessible to a number of players.
I would rather control my sims entirely and let traits make my sims unique than let emotions hiccup my game play. I used to think they(emotions) were really cool, but I went back to the sims 3 and moodlets get the message across and can make social things challenging without making the game play needlessly confusing, clunky, superficial, and isolated. People don't feel intense emotion like the sims in sims 4, let it play out in the moodlets and we can organize their behavior as a player. Emotions also like previously said, makes playing a bigger family so much harder bc it's too detailed/microcosm or a thing for a player to really focus on for a whole family of 6 or 8 even.
It's so disappointing to see something you love go backwards like this
I think the emotions should be like a mix of moods. For example, if a sim is happy and sad then it’ll be a mixed emotion such as bittersweet

To give credit where credit is due, I like the lighting they have going in Sims 5. It screams "Ambiance™", like for some reason I find it aesthetically pleasing despite everything looking unfinished. Lighting really does make or break an image.
Completely agree, it’s like with Minecraft: looks bad naturally but whack shaders on it and it can be the most beautiful blocky game. Lighting changes everything.
Yea the next generation technology that they’re using with the lighting and shadows are really stunning

Almost 10 years and dozens of packs later, I still don’t play ts4 😂 I am at a point where I am slightly getting bored of ts3 so I cannot wait for the ts5 😢

I dont care about ts5 because its TOO far out. This is like sitting in on your favorite series talking about the writing process filming process but the movie isny coming out until 5 years from now. Theres no guarantee well be alive in 5 years. The sun could go super nova tomorrow and none of this matters. I only care when its in the foreseeable future.

It'd be cool if emotions had depth. For instance, there's a difference between sadness due to a loved one dying and sadness because you watched a sad movie. The latter should go away while the former lasts. That doesn't mean they can't feel short bouts of happiness, etc., but the sadness should return. Just like anger (and the sadness) over a partner cheataing should last a lot longer than anger because you lost a game. I dunno. I'm not holding my breath for anything, but I do like more expressive faces.

@@crystalmeth1650 Do you think so? I don't. My shy bookworm never shows up at the library, but always dancing in bars when I play a different family. They flip so much from emotion to emotion. Maybe I expect more because of experience with past Sims games, but IMO Sims 4 really missed the mark with how they handle emotions and personalities.
I'd be fine with this if the logistics of the deeper emotions weren't so whack. Like, my one sim automated a flirt with another sim, then felt deep remorse for DAYS because she "cheated" on her husband. And then she told him (even though it's really not a big deal) and they were both sad for a week straight. And then after they were done being sad about it, she felt guilty about it again and had to admit it again and then they were sad again! Ugh.
@@songsayswhat I think the issue you mentioned in your 2nd comment is different from the original comment. The emotion system in TS4 works exactly like you mentioned, but it’s flawed, because way too many moodlets have been added to the point that it makes the whole thing meaningless. If you have a sim whose spouse died, the sad moodlet will be buried under a million happy moodlets from like, having their needs bar full, being in a nice environment, having fresh laundry, etc. Like who cares about my husband when my clothes are smelling nice. The second comment is more about another issue, which is the fact that TS4 has absolutely no continuity and personalities don’t matter. When you’re playing one household, all the other ones become shells, like literal NPCs. They have traits that are useless but that’s it, no memory, no smart coding involved. It’s just a flawed and empty game from the start
@@isadora7286 You're right. I did slip in my original problem with the game. I freely admit I am not a Sims 4 fan. I don't know what they can do to better balance the emotions and moods, but they need serious work. I'd rather my sims bawled their eyes out for days the way they did back in Sims 2 than get whiplash from all the changing emotions. I don't hold out much hope for Sims 5. I think they could be best served by really examining the earlier games and figuring out why they worked, but what do I know? I want a fun game, not billions of dollars. (Though I'll take that $1Billion of anyone's offering!)

What are you talking about? If you buy all of the expansions and kits in 2023, it ONLY costs around $995 👻 (And even then it still feels hollow)

They will definitely be around the same price as the sims 4. Most new generation games are.
i want them to bring back lifetime wishes instead of the short term, tutorial-like goals. i don’t need a step-by-step plan to achieve, but rather more challenge

Unless The Sims 5 team is 100% no one involved in TS4 I'm not excited. They will make (and not correct) the same mistakes and just rake in the money. They need actual veteran gamers and a brand new team and management team for TS5
Yeah I’m not super confident they seem to be starting in the same way focusing on aesthetics and emotions, not actual interesting gameplay or depth of a character
@@kaylaslovely_ exactly what I got from it too. No gameplay or depth at all, no sims zaniness, just all about aesthetics - even the emotions was about cleaning up the look of the sims icons. Very shallow - very little vision of what they're going to achieve other than pretty.
I agreed. I'm sure it will be different team who is working on it but hopefully TS4 team would not join them after TS4 game is finished.

I like the idea of open neighborhoods. As long as there's sufficient spaces to build on.
Like in tS3 when we could put new lots wherever we wanted in the whole game world. I use to put some random plots near waterfalls. No roads to get there, my sims had to walk through some jungles and it was A-MA-ZING!!!
They should re-direct the budget for this “livestream” into *play testing* the sims 4 and it’s thousands (broken) packs.
I love the moodlets system in the Sims 3 and wouldn’t mind if Sims 5 came with something similar. It was more realistic bc multiple things could contribute to your mood being up or down. Like you could be happy about a promotion but your mood won’t be so high up because it’s being dragged down by the moodlet from your pet passing way. Moodlets could also last several days if they’re pertaining to major events like a death, or marriage. I remember pregnancy also gave you a moodlet about your back hurting for a few days. And another one on mornings you feel nauseous. It felt like there was mote depth seeing all the things contributing to your sims’ mood.
Yes I love all of the little moodlets! I know TS4 had them, and I’m surprised no one pointed it out. But I cannot stand how annoying they are in TS4. A sim will be extremely sad because their relative died but oh wow this place is nicely decorated! It’s so broken in TS4
The two-stage mood meter and its mechanics were the pinnacle for me.
God do I miss those days where Packs like Vampires or City Living genuinely made my heart race waiting for it to release. It feels so empty now.
Their focus on emotions for project Renee kinda has me scratching my head. I feel like in the sims 4 the game focuses less on traits and BEHAVIORS associated with those traits, and instead focuses more on emotional states tied to those traits, And look where that has gotten us. They went so overboard with emotions in ts4 that emotions just tend to all blend together and not have much meaning in the game. I really hope they figure out what it is lacking because the emotion system they have now is not fun it’s just tedious.
Exactly. When TS4 was announced they said exactly the same thing: that they would focus on Sims being smarter and having better emotions, yet it was the most lackluster and boring game of the franchise. I really hope they do something different this time.
I feel like the whole cloning thing (with them saying Catrina is a clone of their real mom) is to cover up how young she is compared to her daughters. It's kind of implied that she had her daughters as a teen or (very young adult) for them to be young adults while she's not yet an elder. So perhaps they want her to be a clone to make it more "family friendly". Which is silly I think, because the whole point of the Caliente family is to be kind of scandalous. Part of their implied storyline is that Don is in secret relationships with both sisters and their mom, so I don't know why they'd want to cover up Catrina's teen pregnancy.

The grunge kit was… definitely really bad. It was just werewolves CAS but not ripped. The goth kit will finally give actually dark core and… goth stuff I think, but I don't think they should do it again. :|
Honestly I’m just tired of paying for every little thing separately 🙄 this is the first sims game where I gave up on “collecting them all” because it was way too expensive. Why not grunge AND goth, 90s style? And “decades” as it’s own pack? Seriously, EA is doing the least and charging so much for it.
@@OpalLeigh Sims players have become desensitised to having to pay for every single update in the game, this may be a bad example but look at minecraft, the base game cost money and yes there are things you can buy but 90% of the actual content in the game is the things that actually come with the game, you're not forced to spend over £600 just to get a semi-functional game, they update the game regularly with things that actually add stuff to the game and not fill it with bugs
i’m so so happy that paralives and life by you are making so much progress and getting so much public attention… it makes me optimistic that the sims team is realizing they need to get their shit together asap, and this competition will probably make the level of the game go up way more than if the other releases weren’t pressuring them. i really hope this indicates we’ll be getting a great game in the future :’))
Unfortunately sims 5 could possibly kill Life By You since the fandom of that is mostly people disappointed in EA

Sims 4 happened because people pressured ea to release it sooner than the actual date that why sims 4 is empty it was supposed to be a multiplayer sims game
@@Eleyrica EA did not release a game early because people were "pressuring" them to do so. That is ludicrous. While it WAS supposed to be multiplayer and that was scrapped, EA released the game before it was ready because $$. Not because people kept asking them to.

EA is doing a great job. The Sims 5 is going to be EPIC, once it releases. It's in the early development stage, so it will take at least 5 to 10 years for it to release. I am so excited for it!

Of all the Sims games that Maxis/EA has made, you truly feel that Sims 4 is the one that most deserves being updated and getting more packs for almost 20 years? I feel like they do these behind the scenes looks to guilt trip us and trick us into thinking that they did so much hard work to justify such little new content.

I'm cautiously optimistic about The Sims 5. Hopefully the fact that two other life simulation games are in the works gives them the motivation they need to give us a game that's worth our money and not a buggy mess with basic stuff being thrown into expensive expansion packs that are also buggy messes.
I'm really excited about the more "european way" they did with the Sims 5. Like the apartment they show with the baguette on the bar and the apartment in the attic looks like a former french maids quarter transfered into an apartment. That's a very common way to live in big french cities.. and more "affordable". Also the Neigborhood is very mixed used an walkable.. which is very european, too (american city planning is way more spread out, where you're very likely to need a car to get to the next starbucks or supermarket, for example). On the first floor are community spaces like bistros, shops, bars etc. and the buildings are mixed with offices and apartments above the community spaces. Also there have been some city view leaks a few months ago, when project rene was tested and leaked, where there's a european town theme was seen.. (at least in my opion, it seems very european)
I hope they make the lifetime goals the same as Sims 3 .. I don't like how I constantly had new goals in sims 4 I just wanna reach the end goal lol

I have been playing The Sims for as long as I can remember. I have played The Sims 1, 2, 3, 4 and many of their games for consoles like DS, PSP and 3DS. Honestly, this new game excites me somehow, but I feel like The Sims 5 will be just as disappointing as The Sims 4.
I saw the release of The Sims 3 and 4 and I just was disappointed when they released TS4.
Rn I just play TS3 since it's my favorite of all and, even though I had to do some adjustments in order to play it without glitching, it doesn't lag as much as TS4, which is a "new" game. I have TS4 but just for building and creating sims. It's literally the only thing you can do without getting bored and spending all your money on DLCs.
They should do something more about Sims relationships. It's pretty pathetic when you fight someone and they'd be laughing and making jokes after.
I like the idea of the emotions actually playing a part in Sims 5, and I loved how realistic the lighting looked, so I hope they continue with that!
I don't like the idea of there being "less" on the screen because I feel so bored playing as it is, I need more stimulation, not less. I hope they keep the speech bubbles because it's fun seeing what topics they're talking about. I wonder what the UI layout will look like, and if it'll be customizable.
I'd like a better camera system than 4, too.

Hey Satch, I noticed you said that the Sims 4 timeline isn't accurate because Bella should be gone - but in Sims 2, when Bella disappeared, Cassandra was an adult and engaged to Don Lothario. Since Cassandra is a teen in Sims 4 that means it pre-dates the events of Sims 2, so Bella's disappearance might not have happened yet which would explain why she's there. It seems to fit in the timeline to me, but it's been years since I played the Sims 2 so maybe I'm missing or forgetting something.

No moodlet interface would be great. Not +2 confident for actual emotion, then 12 other moodlets behind it ranging from sad to happy to embarrassed. Or constant swing with each plant watered,.. That's always fun.
They have no excuse NOT to make it a fully open world. If there are different towns, sure, crossing between them I'd expect a need to select that from a menu and get a load screen.
Real talk. The other day I had a sim sad about a breakup, but the sad moodlet was overshadowed by joy bc she was a foodie and ate food recently.
I think the weird lore stuff is EA hearing that simmers like lore and enjoy the stories and trying to pander that angle.
I think I'm an outlier when I say I am in no rush for the Sims 5. I'm content with them releasing more content for the Sims 4...even if it's broken sometimes. Could just be me being comfortable with the familiar. Anyhow, I'm excited for all the new stuff no matter what.
i think it's best if they take their time on the sims 5 instead of just rushing into things right now. then just have the sims 4 team continue focussing on improving what is already there as a layover. (seeing as you cannot tell me they don't still profit off of sims 4 heck even sims 3 should still hold a profit) so yeah i agree. take it slow it'll make for a better experience

The things I want most from the sims 5 are many random events that are extremely rare, being abducted by aliens, the house being robbed, random named ghost nps showing up I dunno, just make me want to play the game long enough to have something really rare happen.
I also want a more adult aspect in the game (this is exrremeky unlikely but i still will have hope lol) , whenever the game updates wicked whims does too and my sims 4 stopped allowing mods, work with the mod makers and code it into the game please EA

I had a couple simmers yelling at me in defence of ea that the miniature goats and sheep are full sized like ok? They still don’t have “normal” sheep/goats. You could tell what I meant. I don't understand why they focus on expression/emotions so much. That's literally what ruined the Sims 4 (among other things lol). What's the point of expression if it doesn't matter gameplay wise? They need to actually implement the gameplay aspect of it as well like Sims 2 so that these "emotions" actually work and follow through. I don't want Sims to always be happy and friends with everyone. I am so stressed about Sims 5 because I've lost all hope from 4. I really hope they can bring it back and make it feel like "The Sims" again!
I do like the new mixed-use neighborhood (mixed business and residential).
I hope siblings and family can interact more in sims 5. And behaviors actually related to a sims traits. Maybe more/better moods/moodlets? More trait slots?
So glad you give us all the new news in a condensed format. I don't enjoy watching any EA live stream because of how "funny" they try to be, but I do want to know the info. I also very much appreciate the none sugar coating pessimistic/realistic approach to the game.

Okay, the Sims 5 stuff looks AMAZING. Like I’m genuinely excited, the style looks so nice even in its prototype form. It’s kinda giving Paralives but more corporate and slightly less cozy/indie. But it still looks so good. EA please don’t let this flop 😭

I am not excited for Project Renee. No open world, overdramatic facial and body animations that look cartoony, and no detached houses in sight, is a big nope for me. The lighting looks good, but thats what EA excels at. Pretty games with zero substance.

That's one of the biggest issues with the EA sims team, they forget that majority of the player base are adults. Really wish they'd stop the immature/childish antics so much when interacting with the community on livestreams.

I really miss wants like Sims 2 and Sims 3 based on personality traits and randomized is helpful. Not all of us are super creative with creating new sims stories.

I'm sorry, it took over 20 years but they finally lost me. I'm not excited for Sims 5. I'm excited for Paralives and Life by You. Not sims 5. I just can't trust them anymore.

I like the moodlets though. They’re fun to read! I wish they had a memory system to spice them up though and it could effect interactions. Like if a sim cheats the other sim wants to get a divorce and never wants to be around them again. Maybe get a jealous or angry moodlet around the cheater and the other woman. Or something like that.
Maybe they have the option to vent about something and a friend gets tired of the venting. Like the memory part is so important.

Semi open worlds would be ideal as long as there’s enough to do within each district and it would be nice to visit your neighbours or the gym next door without a loading screen. I’d also like to select options on how to get to locations like walk, jog, drive, cycle etc
If they do change emotions to being shown through expressions, they need to have an emotions UI that you can toggle on and off. Some people, especially with certain kinds of neurodivergence, find expression difficult to read. Changing emotions to only facial features would make a huge aspect of gameplay stressful and inaccessible to a number of players.

Oh gosh I did the same thing about a week ago! I know I have sensitive skin but the product said it was for sensitive skin so dumbass that I am I put it all over my face and went to sleep and woke up in the morning with my face soooooo itchy and burning! So silly. Hopefully yours isn’t too painful!

UI mobile Artist here. Less UI does NOT mean better game. At the contrary, if there is any cool gameplay, you need more buttons or sliders to follow what is going on. True reason to less UI ? MOBILE. Less buttons on little screen, less issues on performances. That’s all. But less UI mean no more freedom for pc player. This is not a good news.
i hope they bring back chemistry/turn ons in this next game because that's something I've missed from the other games.
I love how much you capture my love-hate relationship with this series. I don't play The Sims 4 a lot due to life, but it makes me miss playing old sims games that were so much more interesting. I just picked up the Sims 4 about two months ago. I think I'll just re-install Sims 3 at some point instead when I want to kill time. I really hope the Sims 5 can bring back the weirdness from other sim games.😩 I don't even care if it's semi-open as long as the world feels.... interesting. Sims 4 gameplay is so boring and repetive due to the lack of world or broad selecion. I played Sims 3 in consule before Sims 3 for PC. Sims 3 Consule had loading screens, but it really wasn't so bad. You could still interact with a town square with different building to do things. You could have part of your family at the park or at the club and still control all Sims. Now, you are just limited to one building and it really makes this game boring even if you have expansions. 😭😭😭

They referred to Nina and Dina not aging in any sims game which I guess they refer to Barnacle Bay in sims 3. However, that was a sims 3 store world aka non-canon.

I hope they bring back some of the realism they had in Sims 2. That game was made with love.
The best new sims game would be remastered version of The sims 3 with all that open world etc. merged with sims 4. Just merge them, improve the problems and boom! You have the ultimate sims game.
the sims 5 should include routines. it would be neat to create routines by having the sims repeatedly perform a task until the task becomes programmed into a routine and the sims can perform on autopilot. also, creating personalities based on situations the sims are exposed to, as opposed to preselecting from a list of options.
