@@GameoftheYear-fx4mq I don't think they are worse, I mean they do not have EA cash so they are not going to be as pretty but, in the case of LBY, It is made with passion from a past developer of the Sims. It is going to have SO many features and I think be more grown up. Of course I would NEVER tell anyone what they should play or try but I think it is probably going to be well worth a look at least and is looking to ship with so much content that are expansions in Sims4. I totally get the graphic thing because I love pretty games, but LBY and paralives look in depth and TBH some healthy competition would do EA the world of good!

Not only did EA kill the sims franchise, but there’s a good chunk of sims players that have helped. On a video reviewing the horse “expansion” someone posted a comment about unicorns not being included (amongst SO many other things that could’ve been done & were included in previous games) & another person commented, saying “at least they gave us the option to dress them up as unicorns”. There are players that are completely satisfied with the dumbed down, watered down, lacking content.

That is the problem. We can complain about EA as much as we want. The players bear a great deal of the blame for the situation because they allow themselves to be milked so shamelessly by EA.

100% agree, and sadly, it's not just commenters. Over the last few days I've been getting so many videos and shorts titled "We just got an AWESOME FREE UPDATE" like duh, of course it's free, it's a base game update, and it's... a door and a couple bags?!? I completely understand struggling with that balance when video making is your livelihood, but like.. don't be dishonest. I'm forever grateful for honest reviews that don't hold back lol.

It's low expectations. I played since TS1 and I know it's OBVIOUS how much of a sht game TS4 is.
And I wasn't expecting to see unicorns in the horse ranch pack. Let's be honest. They would've screwed it up anyway. We would have gotten aliens in unicorn form. A completely useless occult there for aesthetics only. I rather they not play with us and I'm fine with simple clothing. It could've been much worse.

The fact that the MAJORITY of players don't play without mods or cheating speaks volumes on the quality of the game and content they have given us. The game barely even works half the time. Or if you were trained on the massive prices of tiny Lego sets as a child? I feel like a lot of the ways we buy things for children is teaching too much tolerance for exploitative pricing. Sorry for the long comment ahead, but I think EA is masking how popular The Sims 4 is. They don't disclose sales figures, so it's hard to gauge, but here are some things that make me think that TS4 isn't doing as well as they portray:
    - Journey to Batuu media play, remember the "glitch" where the pack was said to be necessary for Cats and dogs to work in the origins/ea app? Its release removed the game from UA-cam's trending page, making it harder for them to reach new people. Their next release didn't trend either.
    - They released the base game for free. EA did it because they weren't selling it anymore and needed a large influx of new players for their shareholders (The Sims 3 isn't free, and their DLCs rarely go on sale). That is why, at the last fiscal report, they only mentioned player network increase for The Sims 4 and not net bookings (total revenue - physical and digital)
    - TS4's increasing sales of new/recent DLCs are probably to recoup losses in their projected sales. It might mean that the new player influx with the BG going free didn't work as well as they intended. Just a few became real consumers who look to buy more content. They did the same with My First Pet's stuff.
    - EA started to pay for ads to promote the pack. With several celebrities like Millie Bobby Brown, kpop-idols, etc. When has EA needed to do that to that extent for their established franchise?
Why are they doing that? They were in a kind of race with blizzard for Microsoft, but they lost. They have had a rough couple of years. The lack of FIFA money, loot boxes being prohibited/restricted in several countries, Battlefield 2042 bad release, anthem's failure, loss of Star War money, several lay-offs timed just right for the fiscal reports to project growth due to cut costs, and now their EA app is alienating every player base they have.
All of that is bad publicity, increasing their lack of good reputation and hurting their brand trust, which makes shareholders scared and want to jump ship and sell while the price is still high. Not that I think they aren't a lucrative company, but they certainly haven't a big growth perspective for the near future for anyone paying attention. And they need to salvage that till their next cycle of game releases, which seems to be around 2025.

something i learned over the years: you can't trust anything digital to ever be "yours", cause at the end of the day some random suits (who you'd probably hate as people if you ever met them) own everything and can ruin it in one second. sometimes they do it to satisfy shareholders, sometimes there's political goals, depends. but the point is don't get attached to anything digital. except old games, those are gold.

It’s harder because of some of the tools being a tad different, but you can build as good a house in Sims 3 as you can in Sims 4. And the personalities of Sims are way more dynamic in 3. - That we hope that one day TS4 will be the successor that TS3 deserved. But it won't happen. TS4 is a dead empty shell compared to the rest of the franchise. Even TS Medieval has more gameplay and TS spirit than TS4 will ever have.
I played TS1 back when it came out, and I've loved the franchise ever since, but TS4 is not a real Sims game. It's like an impostor wearing a Sims mask.
It has NO Sims feel to it; there's none of that spark, that weird intangible fluff and spirit, and it definitely does NOT have the trademark dark humour and absurdity that the entire franchise was based upon. It has nothing. It's like a really bad adaptation of a beloved book.

It's funny because it was Sims 3 that used to be known as the laggy Sims game. However EA have introduced so many bugs in Sims 4 that causes it to lag. Sometimes exiting build mode brings my frame rate to literally single-digits. Sometimes a certain interaction will cause some kind of chain-reaction that turns everything into a slideshow. E.g. one of my sims leveled up Logic and suddenly the game ran at like 10 fps. Sometimes entering the Options menu and then returning to the game fixes it, but sometimes you have to restart the entire game. I have an 8-core Ryzen 3800X, 32 GB of RAM and an RTX 3060 TI, not high-end by today's standards but there's no reason it should struggle with a 9 year old game.

I remember when I was in middle school I’d go to CD store every single day after classes to look if another sims 1 dlc came out yet. It was like a part of a routine. There was no internet back then. And every morning on our way to art school me and my mate would discuss every single thing we discover in the game. She would make stuff up and I believed it, trying to make it happen in my game 😂 but it was so much fun, the game was so mysterious, it felt like anything could happen there. I remember my excitement when my dad agreed to buy me TS2. God, I was so addicted. I’d play day and night nonstop. When TS3 came out I stopped myself from playing. Otherwise, I knew I wouldn’t get anything done in my life. Oh, how times have changed.
Edit: finished the video. I think for many people it’s nostalgia. Yes, it’s not perfect or not even good now, but it still the sims. We know the spirit of TS1 is not there anymore, but until it has “sims” name on it people would play it.

I absolutely loved TS1 (and I had NO expansions, years later I got the vacation one but that was it) but I remember when I finally got TS2 and I'd just sit there and watch my Sims lol. I played on speed 1 exclusively because there was *so much* to watch. All their little interactions and how many possibilities there were really made it feel like there were infinite possibilities.

None of the features of any of the packs seem like they will change gameplay that much tbh. Except maybe the Supernatural/Occult ones and I play a realistic family style so not sure I want those yet. I might later. Maybe Seasons would make a big game changing difference. I started with sims 2, then with sims 3, but when sims 4 was released I didn't want it, because I thought it was ugly and boring and no open world. I got it years after release, when it was a little bit less worst. And I got it for Christmas, I haven't bought it myself. Now that I think about it, I haven't spent a single penny on that game. Everything was given to me by family and friends. Love them for that.

I would make a machinima movies. There was this community of directors who made amazing movies and when Sims 4 came around they killed The Sims directors and made movies so hard to do in Sims 4. It's just not the same.

I played sims 1 and 2 with no expansions and I had a blast, I played from friday to sunday and waited again for the weekend to keep playing. Now I think about it 1000times before even turning the pc on, since I know it will take a while for the ea app to run (if so), I will probably have to download another actualización or whatever and another million years for each loading screen

Tbh I think part of the reason why Simers buy broken packs is that they hope someone will make a mod to fix them, like I've heard of people who have made mods and found tricks that fixed the absolutely horrific lag from Sims 3 Island Paradise (I think the trick was to delete all npc houseboats) and speaking from experience, that pack had a horrific lag, I used to fight for hours to play half a sims day

the sims 3 being ugly is extremly easily solved by an NRAAS mod (maybe master controller) to increase amount of sliders and installing custom sliders, having a couple of default replacement skins eyes and hairs, and some cc hairs to improve the look of the game, for the rest of the game you need no cc as there is create a style and you can make anything

I loved Into The Future for The Sims 3, it provided some really inventive and fun gameplay that hasn’t been done before by The Sims. It had all these jokes and puns built into characters names and descriptions of things.
Two things that have really disappointed me about the whole life sim genre is Medieval and Into The Future. The idea of playing a Sims game in an alternate time period is such a good one and the direction I wish the franchise had gone. I want Medieval Sims and
Steampunk Sims and Space Sims and Future Sims. I want different time periods and I want gameplay based on those time periods. I want something that nobody is trying to make and probably never will.

Literally this, Into the Future was one of my favorite packs but I feel like so many simmers hate on it because it’s different from what we’ve gotten in past or there are some people who say it doesn’t fit with the life sim aspect although it’s really no weirder then the occult packs. Seriously it was one of the most unique packs we’ve ever gotten my only gripe with it was that the dystopian future wasn’t actually dystopian it was just dirty lol but that’s really not a big deal compared to the pack overall.

I usually got between 10-20 hours of gameplay from each pack but, usually, that was me stretching for the sake of trying to stretch it. Often, I lost interest well before that. I have the boon that I love building, that's what made most packs kinda still "worth while", but that feels incredibly crummy and backwards. It's a life simulator. The gameplay should be able to carry it.

I can not confirm that ts3 is expensive.
Last year there was a sale. I got the basegame for 20€, and for less than 70€ I got the ts3 collection, like every pack except Kate Perry
The best thing about the sale was that it was on steam, which means that I can play the game offline and without the ea app involved.
The game is absolutely amazing, certainly the pinnacle of the franchise.
The reason why I still play ts4 are the mods. Yes, there still are mods for ts3, and they keep on releasing new ones, but they just can't compete with the stuff the ts4 modders churn out. Look, for example, at the animations available for Kinky World and compare them to those for Wicked Whims. So.

EA is a plague. They're killing BioWare as well, who make my favourite video games. They just forced them to fire like 50 people including people who have been writing for BioWare for 20 years. It's wild. The one thing I'll say about sims 4 is that it depends on your playstyle. Like for me, I really really enjoy building, and I find it really fun and relaxing, so in THAT way, sims 4 is great for me. But the gameplay is so much more shallow than previous games and I get bored of live mode fairly quickly, which I didn't with previous games. I think, for the moment - I'm just gonna play the game without buying anymore kits/etc since I've got access to CC mods after upgrading my gaming laptop! As for whether sims 5 is coming out/not, depends whether my love for the sims still remains. Here’s the thing.I started with the sims 4 and then out of curiosity tried the sims 3 as everyone seemed to be saying it was so much better! But… I didn’t find that to be the case. Graphics aside, I found that the same kind of rules applied and people kept saying to me things like “oh but you really need seasons and generations and pets etc” and I just thought to myself “nope, I’m not doing this again”. The sims 3 has packs that make the game unplayable and I’m not even going to go there with the in game shop. I think sims 3 is great for those who have played it for years and got it running how they want and have invested in the packs they want etc and if I had played the sims 3 first I would have probably looked at the sims 4 and gone “nope!”. Just trying to put a different perspective on things which is The sims has always been like this it seems.
I don’t mind the sims 4. I did relate to a lot of the things you said though 😂🤣 I will not be getting the sims 5. Full stop end of story. If they are insisting on in game purchases though, I really hope that they do it a little like Minecraft bedrock does in that CC creators will be able to sell their stuff through it, meaning that they will get compensated and also console players will be able to use it. I very, very much doubt that will ever happen though.
