As an owner of two old houses I’m seriously considering to buy a scaffolding at Harbor Freight. And I believe it will make this job significantly easier
Pressure washing should NOT be your first step IF you have loose siding boards, warped siding boards, rotted siding and rotted window frames and old faulty (unsealed) caulking,. Your first step should have been to replace/repair/nail down those areas or your pressure washing will flood water behind your siding and window frames. You even say in the beginning of your vid, and point out, areas that you said yourself this will be a water issue - but then proceeded to skip that and straight to pressure washing! Pressure washing wood siding is yet another issue in and of itself. The amount of pressure used, the angel, the tip used etc. People damage wood siding and wood decks all the time using pressure washers/power washers.
Absolutely great job!! Ive got almost the exact same issue as you, just that my paint is a bit worse. Ill follow your video all the way through for my project. Much appreciated!!!
Great job! If were to have that sidings, Id probably pass out just thinking about sanding and properly prime it for repainting lol. I think you’re better off replacing the sidings because a lot of your wood are warped.
Is there a teacher pole you can attach a scrapper to , to scrap fascia board that’s 20 dr or so high? Or does one have to get on a ladder to scrap that?
What an amazing video man! I’ll definitely be using it to help me on my home paint project. Great job on not only painting your house, but filming and creating this video. It’s a ton of work, but you got it done. Well done! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
well..... thanks to you my wife wants to paint the house this weekend...I was planning to do nothing! I don't know if I should thank you or unsubscribe.... neh, just kidding. amazing work and thank you! (painting situation this weekend is for real... sadly for me :(
Loved this! Thank you for making this video. I will be going one side of the house at a time just making sure that everything is on point. Your work was inspiring!❤❤❤
Most European chaulk guns don't have them. Although they are pretty nice and don't even need that much pressure. And I have an knife with me al the time
Was this timely or what? I have an exterior wall to paint. Nesting birds made a bit of a mess, which I have cleaned up. Next comes prep and then the painting.
If I didn't have to tolerate YTs butt crack cream, screaming and intentional racket about ridiculous junk commercials I'd watch these kind of channels 24/7, have peace of mind and get everything fixed. Thank you
I’m embarking on the exact journey with my 1950s house. One question, do I only prime the sanded down areas? I noticed where your old paint was bonded you did not prime. Thanks in advance.
You can tell that the house is painted on a regular basis. Dad died of dementia house hasn’t been painted in 12 years. Gotta use oscillating tip to get raised paint off easily then scrape then prime, etc..
Second step should be filling in the gaps with filler created from scraping the flake away, or at least sand the ridges down with a higher grade sandpaper yeah?
Is the old stuff lead paint? Are there special considerations that need to be taken besides the respirator and plastic lining on the ground? I have an old house that I’m planning on repainting.
Lol yes I knew about that cutter. No I wouldn’t want to do all that work period lol. But do it right because who wants to do it twice ?? excellent job Bondo for your house hee hee. Is that rosin paper or just plain?
Looks great! I’m not gonna lie when you put out the paver walkway video I was thinking to myself he needs to do something about that siding before worrying about pavers! Lol looks awesome! What area of Washington are you in? I am coast guard and lived in Westport for 3 years. We are from California but may retire in the Olympia area!
Chances are if you see something wrong you know I've thought about it before haha. I'm up in North Seattle James. Thanks so much for watching and the support.
I don't get it. In the US every other painter pressure wash their houses as for here in sweden thats a big no-no since you'll end up pushing water into your panel which is bad for the wood but also is risking getting into the insulation thats beind the panel that can lead to water damages. Using chemicals also matte down the old paint and make it so the new paint more easily stick to the old paint layer so that it wont start peel off in a couple of years. I don't know if it's due to different wood or something but I havent had any paint peeling off even though this house haven't been painted in 30 years. The side that get most sun however have started to dry up. If I where to pressuew wash that side the panel would probably by sucking up water like a sponge. It's really tideous washing the house with a brush and just low pressure water from your garden hose. Also, before painting you should use a moisture meter to check so that the wooden panel doesn't exceed more than 17% before painting if you just washed your house. Otherwise to be on the safe side you should wait a week or two before painting if you're unsure. That's what I've learned. If the wood havent dried theres a chance the paint will start peel off or the wather will be "locked in" behind the new layer of paint shortening the life of the wood before it will start to roth. I'm a noob just like you. But when searching online or talking to painters or staff woriking at paint stores they all tell me the same thing. What you should and shouldn't do. Here in sweden we mainly use pinewood for our houses and thats maybe totally different from what you're using?
I bet his whole project started because woodpeckers were annoying him XD "well if i replace this wood they hate pecking i minds will paint the whole thing while im at it" looks good!
You had me up until you started caulking. Use your caulk gun as a tool you’re not finger painting. Way too much caulk fill the crack don’t cover it up.
Awe dude... you have to spot prime that raw wood before caulking. The caulk will swell up and bubble your paint then crack and peel. Other that, you did a really good job prepping it.
I wonder if you can do most of this same project with a brick house. I have been wanting to paint our house for some time now but always get nervous. Not the best painter. But the spray gun looks fairly easy and the tape job didn’t look horrible.
Anyone can do this one. Just remember that the prep takes TIME to do correctly. Luckily though if your house is brick then you could actually spray the primer on vs rolling it. keep that in mind.
About 5 years ago I painted a foundation a darker color that the siding on the house. It looked great, everyone loved it. Got complements from neighbors and such. The new owners of the house have kept it. Still the same paint that I put on.
If a house is in this condition when you spray paint you really should back brush and or roll to push the paint and seal all the cracks that caused all the damage in the first place.
Great video. thanks Sir. I have a question. My house exterior has a piece of Cedar fall off (2 * 5 center meters). How could I check there are Mold & Mildew? If there are, how to remove it? Glue a new piece? thanks
Great job. Now can you hop over to Ireland and do mine please? How on earth did you manage to get the pvc boards up there? Hope you had some help for that at least.
Check your local building codes before sanding exterior paint. I'm pretty sure many places require you to uses a vacuum system to collect paint dust, not just throwing down plastic like you were painting an interior.
I wash first : 1) to remove most of mold and mildew 2) washing raises edges of chipped paint that you tried to feather edge by sanding so as not show thru topcoat.
Thought about that but I'd have to remove all of the vertical siding to get into those odd grooves. not worth it in my book. Thanks for watching Mike. Appreciate the support.
I prime the entire surface before applying new paint, primer is the step most folks skip
As an owner of two old houses I’m seriously considering to buy a scaffolding at Harbor Freight. And I believe it will make this job significantly easier
How did it go? I have an older home with a scary dormer windows situation on the 2nd floor. Scaffolding might be part of the solution.😀
Scaffolding is a time saver and makes 5his and other jobs much safer.
I did this for a house with shake siding with layers of pealing paint and it worked great.
It is a pleasure to watch a video where every product used is told to the viewer as well as how to apply it.
Lol you pressure washed away the birds Nest
Why use nails and not finishing screws? Nails will eventually pop out again.
Why not. Take old paint off, and THEN wash. And then primer. Finally paint.

And aren't those butt joints not supposed to be caulking?
Omg,finally a guy who fully understands how to prep and paint
Absolutely great job!! Ive got almost the exact same issue as you, just that my paint is a bit worse. Ill follow your video all the way through for my project. Much appreciated!!!
Great job! If were to have that sidings, Id probably pass out just thinking about sanding and properly prime it for repainting lol. I think you’re better off replacing the sidings because a lot of your wood are warped.
you definitely did get overspray on that wooden soffit, how did you remedy that?
Is there a teacher pole you can attach a scrapper to , to scrap fascia board that’s 20 dr or so high?

Excellent, thanks for the video. It was a big help, I'm painting a house built in 1891.
What an amazing video man! I’ll definitely be using it to help me on my home paint project. Great job on not only painting your house, but filming and creating this video. It’s a ton of work, but you got it done. Well done! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
One thing, you suppose to buff the lose paint off before you pressure wash …. But you still did a good job
Hey Brent, great work. Do you have link to the mask you used in the sanding process and painting process?
Thanks so much for mentioning that Sammy. I just added it to the list and here it is just incase: amzn.to/3yP2Lsp
Thanks for the video. Planning to use your tips in re-painting of my shed.

Why do you ALWAYS pronounce height wrong??? There is no TH at the end of the word. Jeez.
Blame it on my dyslexia Matthew but I'll take that into consideration now haha. Thanks so much for watching though.
I only buy caulk guns with the cutter and the pokey thing, so nice! That looks like a great spraying system and it (and you) did a beautiful job.
A good caulk gun can make life so much easier that's for sure. Thanks for watching as always Di :)
Im gonna have to ger me one of those airless sprayers! Beautiful job. Makes me want to paint something!

@@TheNigaHigaFan4Ever ah, you must have a Metric Caulk Gun 😜

The exterior looks brand new! Excellent work with your Wagner tools to get the job done!
Is the paint eater available in The Netherlands?
The eternal question...caulk or prime first? Especially around windows.
Caulking first
I’m embarking on the exact journey with my 1950s house. One question, do I only prime the sanded down areas? I noticed where your old paint was bonded you did not prime. Thanks in advance.
Any tips on marketing? Things like Yelp barely seem to work. I get more scammers about my Google listing than potential clients. 😅

What about painting the concrete foundation gray after painting it blue? Toyota has a truck color called cement.
DUDE! Amazing video. So professionally produced and so detailed.
Looks great! You've fixed the bird problem, but now you'll have to figure out how to fix the drone problem!
LOL! Luckily my little drone is tough and still is in one piece haha! Thanks for all your continued support GB.
Paint edge technology 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Remove the loose paint first then pressure wash and you’ll save yourself a step!!
Lol yes I knew about that cutter. No I wouldn’t want to do all that work period lol. But do it right because who wants to do it twice ?? excellent job Bondo for your house hee hee. Is that rosin paper or just plain?

Wow! you are a perfectionist I love it!! it feels so satisfying when you look at the results of your hard work!! Stunning!!
Why didn’t you use sprayer to apply the white primer also? Faster , easier?
What specific color is this? All it says is "blue" in the description.
The CAULK L is silent it is pronounced Kaak
I've never heard anyone pronounce the "L'" in caulk. 🤣
How many labor hours do you estimate went into this job?
Amazingly detailed video thanks for making this you just made me knew happy person ....# D..I.Y. life❤
Sigh... dman thats so much prep work
How many hours did this take you?
This one side and the whole project.
Sorry if you answered that in video already.
What was the spray cleaner on the rust? Not listed.

BYOT? Pretty clever haha surprised it hasn't been used yet
Haha Right?! Thanks for watching
I’ve always heard of you don’t back roll/brush your paints warranty isn’t able available anymore. (If the paint specs say it anyways)
This guy loves the word caulk
I only heard him say cowlk
that paint eater would’ve been real helpful for when my elderly neighbor asked my brother an i to do this to his house lol
Well now you know for next time haha! Thanks for watching.

House painting 101. It always comes back off.
House siding 101. It always fades.
With the concrete siding trim at the base why not continue the timber cladding all the way down? Or popcorn cement stucco and painted.
What are you using to clean the pipe? ‘Bright’ cleaner? I can’t tell what you’re saying and don’t see it listed.
the way you say caulk hahaha
That’s how I say it??
Dudeeee!! I can’t stand it. Every video I watch it seems like everyone pronounced the “L”!!! Like, you don’t pronouns the “L” in “walk” right 🤦♂️

Try leaving out the L when pronouncing caulk....you will sound like a pro..lol
What kind of pressure washer is that?
take a shot every time he says "actually"
Sorry but i would tear that off and put vinyl or lp smartside on there if you like to paint.

Great job, Brent! Looks fantastic.
It looks like you have a slight sheen to your paint. Did you use a satin sheen?
With the 30 foot ladder it's better to have another worker holding the shield
