  • In this episode we continue the big back balloon framed wall. It's been a challenge dealing with heavy lumber and working by myself, I am very thankful for the scaffolding or there is no way I could have done this job.

    Well Andrew you did really good at putting the wall studs in just saying if you had a helper it would be a lot easter for you so you don't have to climb up and down it makes for a long day doing it that way. Andrew you are doing one heck of a job. When you fast forward I didn't realize how much time and effort it actually took. If it was me I probably would have rented a scissor lift however I know this build is more expensive than originally planned with the added cost of lumber. Keep up the good work but also take care of yourself.

    When the rains come, and they will surely come, you might regret not raising the building pad under the concrete so water drains away from the building.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  3 роки тому

      It's obviously deceptive, but that rain would have to fill a sloped yard with good run off up 6-8 inches. I've never seen such a rain. The other end of the house is 32 inches above grade. We got 17 inches of rain last year in a tropical storm and there was absolutely no standing water near the house.

    You can also measure the first stud then add or subtract the pitch of the roof to get your measurements for the next stud since everything is on 12" centers on those walls.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  3 роки тому

      It's a term used back in the day to describe light weight framing such as this. The rumor was old timers said that the wall would blow away like a balloon. It's basically a wall with continuous studs top to bottom.
