    Steven obviously didn't do the mix and mastering for this audio.

    A brilliant day at the bookstore. Great interview, great Q and A, great few minutes talking to Steven, who was gracious, kind and patient and now enjoying the book immensely.

    I agree that the music that has value and is precious is often the music that is unique to ones life and is special to the early years of ones life.

    I'm proud to been a fan and followed him through his musical journey from the first time I heard In Absentia. I dived back in his catalogue at that time and then bought every album since. I'm not the biggest fan of every record but I have confidence in him doing something good in any genre he choose that's worth listening to.

    I had no idea Steven wrote a book until I randomly encountered 3 English hardcover copies in my local bookstore somewhere in the Netherlands... At the steep price of 35 euros a piece. So I bought it and am currently listening to the list on p75 to get the full emersion and suddenly there's this video in the recommendeds after not being able to find Kenotaphion!
    SO far it's worth the money if you're a fan. I love the tone he uses in his writing

    A very unorthodox yet fascinating book (semi-autobiography?) which gives many unknown aspects of Steven Wilson. Would love to read more of his fiction and/or visual and eventually a film directed & scored by him in the future.

      I'd love to see him go the way of Danny Elfman and start composing scores for movies. I've no doubt scores would be brilliant.

    No doubt I love Steven's Raven and Hand album, but Insurgentes has no match for me. There's something deeper and more raw about that album that touches me in a way his other works simply don't.

    • @cuzned1375
      @cuzned1375 2 роки тому +3

      Agree, _Insurgentes_ was a real wake-up for me. Not a huge left turn from PT, but a definite departure with, as you noted, a bit more rawness.
      Having said that… You wanna talk raw, it’s “Raider II”, especially the live recording that closes _Get All You Deserve_ .

      It's very interesting and illuminating. I ordered it via the pre sale, and or was delivered as expected. Some of the chapters left me wanting more, as he often starts a thread of thought and then, I wish he he'd gone in more before changing to something else but that said I still really enjoyed it. I imagine e the process of writing is a bit like writing an essay or editing any film footage the question of inclusion/exclusion, if there's was an equivalent to the 'cutting room floor' of what didn't make it in - I'd love to read that too!

      I have probably seen every video interview he’s done and I learned quite a lot in the book. Not to spoil anything but there are details about parts of his life I wasn’t expecting he would dive in about. I always considered him frank and straightforward in interviews but he gets even more honest at times and it sheds a different light on his career and his upbringing. And maybe it’s just me but he felt more « normal » to me, it kind of faded some of the magic about him. I don’t mean that in a bad way, it’s just an observation. I never worshipped him but I was always amazed by the musical universe he has created. But yeah all in all super interesting read for anyone that likes his music.

    You could be reduced down to "Drive Home," if anyone really knew or heard that song. And maybe ".3" though short, which reminds one of "Voyage 34 Phase II." I do not have a favorite artist or band or song and each generation's idea of that sound is dramatically different. Pink Floyd's "Echoes" resonates with me having been born in the 70s. If I am working out, the music I'll listen to is drastically different like "Trap" because I'm looking to keep a rhythm and to change speeds in doing cardio. That book "British Black Lives Matter" offends me (of genetic British descent, but American). Blacks can only be African. Blacks create the best rhythms so for my workouts I use T-rap which I couldn't stand for personal enjoyment or relaxation. One of the few bands I've seen in person, Living Colour, had my hair stood on end the most, with the epitome of rhythm, Will Calhoun, as it's drummer, but those were the 90s, very grim time period for me, just a depressing decade in general. I was searching for the Future or a Sci-Fi sound then. I was young.
    I guess all my life I've searched for that "Live at Pompeii" sound, or an origins/space sound, an Earthy historic timeless sound that shunts you into (or back into) that ground of realization of weirdness of nature and where we are right now in it. We still can't make sense of the world into which we were born. It is So bizarre, yet sacred, but the animals everything when you get away from the city is so strange.

      Successful people don't become that way overnight. What most people see at a glance-wealth, a great career, purpose-is the result of hard work and hustle over time.
