I met him at a Porcupine Tree show in Houston, Tx. As he was walking from the stage to come outside, a guy jumps out before him and does the Wayne's World "I'm not worthy" routine, and Steven just walks around him. lol It was amazing. But I met him afterwards, asked him to sign a Cover Version CD, and he was very pleasant. Tired, obviously, but tired doesn't equate to prat as some people seem to interpret it. Steven is not a melancholic person despite the usual feel of his music, and I think that's common with anyone who is more introspective and makes "sad music". I met Danny Cavanagh after an Anathema show and he was sweet. I told him his music has been a lifesaver for me for 16 years and thanked him. I think that made his evening. The musicians we love are quite human, and I think we forget that sometimes. I know Steven certainly prefers to be approached like any other bloke rather than like a rock star.

That's a nice thing about him. And he saved my life SW I mean. For fourteen years I've been holding on to life largely or even mainly because of him. I came close to death a few times but I don't gamble with that anymore. He has been both an escape and a rock for me to hold onto. Literally saved me from drowning......he doesn't read comments so I'll still state this here anyway...my main trouble has been I'm afraid to love, among other things...he encourages by both empathizing and doing it in such a way as only music can do IMHO.. I don't think he would mind me saying this.

When he's talking about how people find new music, that's exactly how I found Steven's music. I was a huge Opeth fan and always saw Mike talking about Steven and how he produced some of their albums. Both are in my top 5 favourite artists of all time now.

Someone tell Steven that beautiful, sophisticated, artistic role playing computer games have existed for decades! It's a shame games like Final Fantasy VI - IX have dated so much now, he might not be able to see past that... but those games are gorgeous, inspired and heart wrenching. Plus many others of course!

What a genuinely lovely and humble dude! It's so lovely to see an artist who has kept his feet on the ground, despite heading into a whirlwind with his new album.
Our planet is beautiful and most people don't see or understand this. As humans, we can be very selfish in our approach to the planet and other animals. As an Earth Scientist, it breaks my heart to see what's happening to our planet. It's nice to see an artist get his listeners to think about this...
Also, it's nice to see an artist who isn't fame hungry... so many search the net looking for ego massaging! It's great to know that his music isn't affected by this...
Keep at it Steven, I love your work and it inspires mine...thank you.

Just want to say, many of us really do buy multiple copies: LPs (all colors), CDs, DVDs Blurays, Deluxe editions, and some extras to turn other people on to the music. Gotta' support the artist when you discover a really exceptionally good one. ;)
Have met him many times, and he is always very kind.

    Greetings from Brazil,
Brazil is waiting for your show again !

Videogames are my second love after music and watching Steven become aware that videogames have stepped out of the "entertainment" category and a lot of them are standing firmly in the "art" category is so amazing. Things like LDOJ, of course, but Hollow Knight, Darkest Dungeon, Supergiant games too! So many videogames are just so beautiful, sophisticated and well written.

Also cannot wait for the computer game Last Day of June? Not sure about it as I don't play role playing games usually. Omg last night I listened to the album and was blown away! Maybe IMHO the best he's ever done, besides Raven, Insurgentes, In Absentia and Fear of a Blank Planet. I saw who wrpte the music for The Leftovers also. Thanks to SW I had a most interesting evening. I'll be spinning the new CD all of the time that I can fit it in too! I think Lenny's point is, it would be nice to see him get on one of the late night shows. Since Colbert or Fallon are neck & neck, it makes complete sense that he would mention Colbert. Maybe you find his "bs agenda" (your words) offensive, but many of us enjoy his show.. Regardless, it's not our views that count, but what's best for Steven Wilson,. For the record, Steven Wilson might be on the same page as Steven Colbert's humor anyhow. What would you recommend? Britains Got Talent, X Factor, American Idol?

I don't believe he is greedy or anything, but how does he suddenly come to terms with having an album in the charts and playing in TV breakfast shows? A few years ago he smashed an iPod with a hammer in front of a camera. It's probably irrelevant, I still love him, still I'm curious.

Calling Blundell "close to Gavin" is like calling blood close to red. Without Harrison, Blundell wouldn't know what to play half the time.

"Without Harrison, Blundell wouldn't know what to play half the time." What does that even mean?

It's another way of saying Blundell based his playing style on Harrison.

Harrison recommended Blunders as a replacement for Marco. I've never thought of him sounding like Harrison at all and in interviews he's even said he's not as good as Gavin. He played mainly dance stuff before all the Prog work kicked off. Then going back to PT I always thought Chris Maitland's parts were more suited. He was a more "musical" drummer than Gavin who seems more about technique.

"Is this thing we call truth really achievable?" Of course it is. How else would all the technology he's using to create his music with be discovered and developed and improved upon? What a disappointing statement of science denial.
I read Steven Wilson say in an interview years ago that he admired Richard Dawkins. Allow me to quote Dawkins in relation to this:
"The truth really is out there. It's not a matter of opinion. Relativism, the quaint notion that there are many truths all equally deserving of respect even if they contradict each other, is rife today. It sounds like a respectful gesture to multiculturalism, but actually it's a pretentious copout. There really is something special about scientific evidence. Science works. Planes fly, magic carpets and broomsticks don't. Gravity's not a version of the truth, it is the truth. Anybody who doubts it is invited to jump out a ten story window. Evolution too is reality. We don't decide whether to believe it or not believe on the basis of whim or culture. The evidence supports it. Evolution is the plain truth."

I think he's speaking of objectivity,as in politics or as in the media, or just as an individual. IMHO that's how I perceive. Subjectivity is really affected by objectivity to a degree but not always fully. Take for instance, to quote Zappa: GIVE ME YOUR DIRTY LOVE ... Etc

Christopher Burkill well Dawkins was a real purist on what truth can be then...i still think anything non scientific or non provable is subjective truth, not objective. However if people contradict themselves, then truth gets lost. Ok, so schizophrenia is sort of built from that, meaning split in two, in a total contradiction...conflict comes necessarily from two or more truths in that case...i mean gaslighting which is saying two things that contradict...i had never heard of that term until very recently...hmm now who did it first? And is it ever ok to do that? Because it can make someone feel as if they're crazy...which someone (no one in particular comes to mind...) in power can abuse someone with. More on this topic later...
