Hey Joe, I’m a Jeep fan I have the last gen Grand Cherokee but the trailhawk trim. I have nothing against the 4Xe except the price. That trim is too high. I would stick with the Trailhawk trim it’s more cost effective and can get all the same options except with the price tag.
I have the Wrangler 4xe and it's a super fun vehicle. The issue is the CEL has been on since day 5 at 200 miles because the battery coolant pump is faulty. I guess loads of folks are having the same issue. They tell me there is no ETA on the part. I'd be weary of buying this thing until we see the early adopters issues. Beautiful vehicle though and great review as usual.
I traded in my 2022 Grand Cherokee WK 10 months early because I got such a great lease deal on my 22 Grand Cherokee 4Xe. Even though the 4Xe lasted for $16K more than my WK, my payment only increased by $50. I have 2000 miles on it so far, and have only put gas in it twice, AND my tank is still full.
My 2014 Laredo with heated seats, side mirrors, heated cloth seats, moonroof, 8.4” infotainment system and it’s not even a limited. Driving strong at 165k miles. I’ll drive it until the wheels fall off. These prices are insane now. 😞
The Grands are cool! But I’m actually curious about their plans for the next Jeep Cherokee especially the Trailhawk. Hopefully they get more practicality out of it. That vehicle has a weird placement in the lineup and should standout more…somehow.
Only downside is it sounds like the Wranglers have had tons of issues with the hybrid system and the Uconnect 5 is still an issue. This one is one my list but may go V6 and avoid the current issues. Good review 👍
I got my new grand Cherokee 2 months ago and loving it. I went with v6……not sure I trust Jeep with ev technology yet. And mpg is no better than v6 and 26 miles pure ev didn’t make sense to me. Thanks Joe !!!
@@MG-jv7pe I think he was comparing gas MPGs. At the end of the day the 4xe makes no sense for most drivers that commute miles everyday, but is great for those who can afford it, who drive less than 25-30 miles each day, and who have time to charge the car between drive times. And yes, I also cannot trust Jeep on this technology in their first year of production. Wrangler has been a mess.

My brother has a summer cabin in the mountains of Colorado, and loves his Grand Cherokee. It is a very capable vehicle when you get a sudden snowstorm. This is a nice step forward, and for people who just use it around town will save a lot of money in operating costs. Stellantis has so many problems with their other brands, but Jeep is a solid winner for them, and this is a very competitive vehicle.
Wish there was more on the charging. How? Standard AC plug? Is the cord long enough? New Zonk material is charging ease, time, accessories, etc. Before I go electric or phev, charging is going to be part of my consideration.
I love this Grand Cherokee the design is beautiful looks better than last generation seem Mopar is doing lately just upset they killing the 300s, Charger and Challengers but love the Ram trucks and Jeeps especially Grand Cherokee and Grand Wagoneer that looks beautiful.
I got say jeep really elevated with this generation. The interior and technology are far superior then last generation. Good job jeep finally they make something attractive
I drive about 35k miles/yr. Much of it interstate and away from home Mon-Thurs. Would this be recommended or will I find myself without the "E" too quickly. Can't get stuck with 2L 270hp engine alone. Especially coming from the Explorer ST
I think a hybrid is the best option as electric just does not have enough range. We test drove a 4xe and loved it. I don't think it had all the options that this had, but it really does drive great and is very comfortable. Though I am disappointed that it has such limited range in all electric mode. I am also disappointed that it does not get better fuel economy on the highway. We rented a previous hybrid model Grand Cherokee that got like 35 mpg highway. It went over 700 miles on a tank of gas. Now that is impressive.
If anybody is interested in buying an electric or hybrid vehicle beware of the cost to replace your batteries because it will be expensive when you go to the dealerships.
No doubt: this is the most amazing medium size SUV on market today. In the large size category there’s another Jeep: the Grand Wagoneer. Greetings from Costa Rica😮
Alright Joe, really with all your reviews on the Grand Cherokee, I can co confidently say that the Grand Cherokee is one of my favorite redesigned vehicles in the 2022 model year. I literally love everything about it. Tech, style, luxury, but they really hit the nail in the head and put their best foot forward. There's only one problem......I can't afford 75 Gs! Lol 😆 One day Joe, one day......But, this is a nice goal to have! Great job Stephen Flood!
Joe. I have this model. Any idea what cost of new batter is? I leased and am wondering how much it will cost me to replace if I buy it out. Also will Jeep ever increase range of this?
I love them and thinking about getting one but what I don't like is The Summit in the summit Reserve don't offer that all black interior like the Trailhawk
I was going to get one but the price is ridiculous and no one could confirm that I could get one before the new EV credit laws kick in. Ended up ordering my second 4xe Wrangler instead...a Reign Rubicon 🍇🍇🍇
These are now selling/leasing for $12K to $15K less with all the rebates & discounts. Don't judge it by the initial price, as now it's a $50K vehicle. I know as I'm driving it for the last few months. Doesn't have air suspension nor cooled & massaged seats but the rest is the same, which is a lot. To answer one question everyone is asking: no, you'll never drain your battery completely, even if you never plug it. There's around extra 15-20% 'un-reported' battery capacity which gets recharged by the Regen braking or engine. Those who plug it in every night at home will see some savings. If their commute is 30 miles or less, one tank of gas would last forever. I do a lot of highway driving and pitting it in Sport mode always wakes up the engine and use it primarily, but also it charges the battery along the way. It takes around 150 miles or so to charge the batt. fully, especially if you choose 'e-save' mode while highway cruising. This way I have a battery for the city traffic and save a little I guess. Overall I'm getting around 22mpg as I can't plug it in every night. This doesn't sound a lot at first glimpse, but if one realizes that this is now a performance SUV then it paints a different picture. Even the base trim is as fast as the top trim, reportedly 5.3 sec to 60mph. This thing moves with such ease and feels super comfi, on highway this is the "king of the road" ride, solid with no floating. It's surprisingly as easy and comfi in the city. There's no way hiding extra 450 lbs added battery weight compared to the V-6 model, but the pack is so low, below the seats, it does feels buttoned up and solid. Very quiet inside, I barely hear the engine. And mine doesn't feel too jerky as some claim, I have always max Regen On and it took a little bit adjusting my pedal work to make it all more smooth. To finish, I'll say I don't have almost any complaints. This is a brand with rather dodgy reputation so there's no way knowing how this is going to work long term. But for $500 monthly lease you won't find too many boxes that this didn't check. And it'll tow 6K lbs!
An upgraded gas Trailhawk is almost exactly $7500 less, so why not get the 4xe? Because it has two Jeep powertrains that can suffer electrical gremlins. No thx.
I recently had a '22 Grand Cherokee Overland for a rental. I really wanted to like it. It was very nice for all the correct reasons, but the steering wheel creaked, the accelator pedal vibration was extreme and the connectivty was not good. All with less than 9k miles. Kind of disappointing for a $60k vehicle...
Go get your boring Subaru station wagon if you’re fixated on safety ratings that have low probability of real world application. Look into the tests … they’re still not setup for the most common scenarios. It’s an insurance claim driven industry.
I have to think that most drivers of this vehicle will utilizing the added torque from the Emotors and not be driving full EV. I may be wrong depending on who buys it. I do think the hybrid vehicles are the way to go at this time for the majority of the drivers in the US. Full EV vehicles are more suited to the short commute driver or metro driving, etc.
