Wirh Regards to "Rex" slipping a lot, i have to say, post-rebuild Esk is noted for its reliability. I travelled behind it pre-rebuild a while ago and it sounded tired. Post rebuild it runs like a sewing machine and is a credit to Ravenglass, Nigel Day and mister Van-Zeller who i believe was its regular driver for many years and who was sriver when I last rode behind it.
4:10 Neat little Wallace & Gromit reference! I think I may have gone to the R&E railway when I was young, but I don’t really remember it. But since it has such a fascinating history, I’ll keep it in mind.
I kind of almost wonder, with how Rex's basis was given a powered tender to work with heavy loads, that they might do something similar with Rex, when dealing with the wheel slipping problem.
Rather nice Ratty design, while i do like it a lot, its rebuild (2nd chassis on the tender) form was absolutely horrible, im quite glad a design like the original hasn't been done since. its lovely to see shes still around even after the arson attack, lovely video as well.
Happy 100th Birthday, River Esk!! It's really astonishing on how a small miniature locomotive made it through in a century! It reminds me of an episode of NWR Tales about Rex the Small Green Engine sharing the same 100th birthday with Flying Scotsman, and how he got jealous and felt that his 100th birthday was being overshadowed by Flying Scotsman's fame in "Reckless Rex". 🚂🛤🎉🎊🎂 ua-cam.com/video/SGhz11A9oz4/v-deo.html&feature=share7
