    I can answer the 1225 whistle thing.
    The Polar Express was directed by Robert Zimekis who also directed the back to the future films.
    Back to the future part III features sierra no. 3 a 19th-century steam locomotive owned and preserved at Railtown 1897
    The Whistle in the polar express is sierra no. 3 and not the 1225 because Zemekis preferred it. That’s all. You can briefly hear 1225s whistle when hero boys radiator blows steam while the polar express arrives on his street.
    The Polar Express features a reference to BTTF:3 when the hero boy blows the whistle
    “I’ve wanted to do that my whole life!”
    Same line Doc brown says in the film.
    Lionel’s model uses 1225s whistle because they are models of the 1225 adapted to only look like the polar express. Not be strictly 100% accurate polar express models.

    Hi Chris my name is Mark Ranzie I do the Lionel drag races for the Metropolitan Train Collectors Association division of the Train Collectors association . I created a scale two lane quarter mile drag race track and let me tell it has been widely popular amongst the lil guys and the big kids at our New York City train show. Maybe one day we can compete in a drag race and do a video of us racing on the track . I built two engine for those who do not have a train to race , but I do have one of my own that is still in challenged lolol . Keep up the great work and the great videos !

    My layout has 3 inch tall rubber walls on the edges to prevent my postwar motive power from flying off the layout. It also prevents little hands from being in the rails when my nephews come over to visit during the winter. Got to keep the little ones safe.

    Chris I really enjoy your videos and your style of presenting. This was another of your entertaining videos. They are the best O gauge model train videos on You Tube. You purchase the finest O gauge trains under the sun. But I hope you can appreciate that most people can not afford to spend thousands, maybe tens of thousands every year on trains as much as they wish they could. None of our business how you afford it and there's nothing you can do about it either. I just hope that you keep that in mind. Maybe you do. Keep up the great work and have a great year!

    2:10 looks like almost the same train set my dad got me for Christmas when I was 5 or so. I didn't even ask for a train; it was there when I got up Christmas morning I remember that same caboose and the blue box car. Same bridge, too, only the bridge was a silver metal rather than black. And the same big clunky switch mechanism with the green and red plastic bubble that popped up. If your train had a flat car and a steam engine, it would be the exact same set.

    Something you might look at which is a really good addition to a train layout is to change the lightbulbs in your train room all to Phillips hue color led bulbs
    I did it for my postwar layout and a friend put it in his ho layout room which it is a fantastic change.
    Being able to not only turn on and off lights from phones and such but you are able to do scenes like nighttime, star light, sunset, dawn etc super easily
    It is honestly a really fun thing to have in a train room

    Good to know that the 763 E Hudson is the most difficult one to find in working order, it's also a bit sad that "Zinc Rot" and age can cause such a nice locomotive to not run properly.

    • @RBPTrains
      @RBPTrains  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, time is not kind to some of these engines. Musty basements, attics and garages don't do them any favors either. Luckily, the one I have was kept dry and out of extreme temperatures for most of it's days.

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 Рік тому +1

      Zinc rot, also called zincpest, was a problem for a lot of the early diecast engines. The problem was (and is) if the zinc isn't smelted properly to get ALL the impurities out those impurities will eventually cause the casting to deteriorate and there's nothing you can do to stop it. Lionel picked up on the zinc rot problem pretty quickly. The good news is IF you've got a pre-war Lionel and there's NO evidence of zinc rot there's little reason to be concerned, if it hasn't happened by now (80+ years) chances are it never will.
      Don't confuse zinc rot with zinc corrosion though. Zinc can corrode like any other metal (look at a galvanized garbage can for example) but zinc corrosion can be easily dealt with by cleaning and oiling or a fresh coat of paint.

    I just stumbled upon your channel and now I'm addicted to O gauge. I usually do DCC & Sound HO scale, in the process of ballasting it and everything right now. You should invest into some C&IM rolling stock and locomotives. That'd be neat to see. I believe there's some O gauge on C&IM rolling stock and locomotives, but engine wise, I believe its usually C&IM steam locomotives instead of the diesels.

Ever since then I’ve been a fan of HO modes I did N for a while but for me I found it a little small to work on and went back to HO and I’m happy with HO.

    If you ever were to consider another scale, On30 is designed to go alongside O-gauge as narrow gauge. It uses Ho scale track, but the engines are O-scale. I don't understand it much and don't have any, but they've always struck me as kinda cooler than your average scale.

    Happy New Year to you and yours Chris!
    Oh yeah, replacing traction tires is a pain all right. I'll tell you (and everyone else) something, if traction tires wear out on my engines that have them and the engine doesn't miss them I just leave them off! Mind you I've got a small layout and the maximum amount of freight cars I can run is 16 so it's never been a big deal.
    Oh, don't be embarassed about part of your "empire" being a mess. My workbench is so bad it's got a "BIOHAZARD!" sign on it!
    Fun video as always! Looking forward to the net one!

      I actually had an engine running the other day that was missing a tracking tire and it was dragging 30 cars with no problem. Should have left it that way! I can relate to the messy train room/ bench situation. I usually clean the room for videos but it has been mayhem with the scenery projects! Been insane: Do scenery, clean up for video, do scenery, clean up for video...repeat, haha!

    As usual good video. This year I am moving. New place is going to be heavy on O gauge layout. In fact, a 600 square foot living space and about 1200 of trains is perfect. Can you tell I live alone! Now my favorite engine is my Pennsy K4 MTH Premier but the T-1 Duplex Proto 3 set I just got from Trainz may take its place. I like my E6 Santa Fe's too. Then my circus train is also cool. Hell I like them all even the dead ones.

    At least the "how many" question was to something specific. Usually it's "how many _trains_ do you have?", a question that seems to assume train collectors/operators only acquire equipment in the form of boxed sets and never vary or intermix their consists, which is "oh so _not_ how that works" if you're in the know.
    And the thing about boxes...Oh the struggle. I find myself in the position of having to create _more_ of them after winning a pair of lots in a Cabin Fever auction that netted me _twelve_ K-Line aluminum tankers...all without original boxes. They're currently "parked" on the back of a couch cause they're too tall for BCW boxes. I now have to figure out a box design that I can repeat a dozen times that will secure them without too much bulk.

    Restoring that 490 Yellowbelly is an excellent choice. My wife and I toured the B&O Railroad Museum back in October and it is amazing.

    • @wayneantoniazzi2706
      @wayneantoniazzi2706 Рік тому +1

      I'd love to see it restored to operation myself, but at the risk of being a wet blanket where could they run it? CSX won't allow any antique railroad equipment on their lines and at the moment neither will Norfolk-Southern. Until things change dramatically it doesn't make sense to restore the Yellowbelly (I've also heard it called "The Big Banana") just to have it crawl around museum trackage. Still, we can hope. Whoever thought we'd see a "Big Boy" run again?

    Hi Chris. If you want a British engine, I think the Hogwarts Express is a nice engine. It is a Great Western Railway 4900 Class or Hall Class and is a class of 4-6-0 mixed-traffic steam locomotive. I bought the Lionel Lionchief version of this engine, and it is pretty nice.
