Truly impressive how this little engine became the backbone of the services on the Corris and then on the Talyllyn in its early presevation days
Every time I see this little engine I smile, Peter Sam was always my favourite and Edward Thomas too, no matter what it may be seen as less remarkable than others but I think it is more due to its ability to be there almost no matter what

in Railway adventure I understand Tom Rolt said a lot of nice stuff about this Ex Corris engine and I believe it may have been his favourite as he had once worked in the same engineering work shop where the engine had been built. he definitely sounded proud of previously working for Kerr Stuart. I possibly have a similar feeling about having done my bit for heritage steam back in 2011

Peter Sam is my favourite narrow gauge engine and one day, I really want to ride his real life counterpart Edward Thomas.

Make a documentary called “The gallant old lady” about Dolgoch about her overhaul after saving the line from closure.
Oh, of course Dolgoch was female. All the Talyllyn railway engines are, apparently. Though thankfully "Dolgoch" doesn't sound gender-specific. Unless it's some Welsh name I've never heard of.
now this was a nice little documentary on her, i really did like it!

I love how each of these engines have their own personalities.
When the Talyllyn hosted Peter Sam from the Skarloey, how did they explain Peter Sam not having his “special funnel”?

Peter Sam had his for the rest of Thomas and friends, while Edward Thomas had the special funnel for a time being
I wonder why?
Also of note is I understand the original Hackworth valve gear (if nothing else?!) was replaced in the 60s with the identical parts from the first of Tattoos, since also preserved but expected to be scrapped at the time... That's 'Stanhope', which appears almost at the end of this piece alongside ET in black, _and_ in the black and white photo near the start simply emblazoned 'Tattoo'.

The frustrating part is that Edward Thomas is 100. Where's her card from Her Majesty? It's not every day a loco turns 100. She's an incredible workhorse and I'm really hoping to see her whenever I do visit the Talyllyn. I've never been before yet

my guess is that t'll be done when it's done. These things don't have a set schedule for completion.
@@kupferbergbahn7952 i didn’t mean when exactly she will be done. Just at what point in the restoration process she’s in. Like if she only has a few things left to fix, or if she still has a long way to go.

While this was the name given to it in Christopher Awdry's book "Hugh Goes Sliding", the name is purely fictional - none of the original Corris locomotives had names.
So wait, what happened to the first loco of the Coris railroad?

It's still very weird to hear *Edward Thomas* being referred to as a female. *Sir* Hayden too.
Did anyone ever know that Edward Thomas was actually built after his fictional counterpart Peter Sam? Built in 1921 whilst Peter Sam was built the year prior (1920). Ironic, huh?

Maybe cut the Thomas stuff it really detracts from the actual engine and makes the heritage railway world look like a bunch of people playing with toy trains
Our connection and legacy with The Rev W Awdry, one of our volunteers, is something we cherish and is very important to us - it hardly diminishes from this locomotive's history (and was only talked about for 40 seconds in an 8 minute video), if anything it bolsters it and has given the loco and our Railway so much to thank for. The amount of volunteers we get, not just from within the UK - from around the world, who say the reason they have come to volunteer at the Talyllyn is because of the original books and TV Series is staggering.
And at the end of the day, we are playing trains!

Funny how voice actors Steve Kynman and Keith Wickham gave them Indian accents... 🙄 Why couldn't they have given them more American voices?
They have Welsh accents in CGI along with Skarloey and Rheneas
@@jaanshersaeed4541 Skarloey has a bit of a Mumbai twang; Rheneas sounds like someone from Haryana or the Panjab. Then again, I could be wrong, those are just first impressions 🙄

@@peaceandlovescooters1304 Cardiff is more in South-East Wales, they might have different types of Welsh accents from whatever you have, not sure what type of Welsh accents they have but since the Talyllyn Railway’s up on the coast in mid-Wales they might have whatever Welsh accent’s from over there
if the engine is a woman, why does it have a male's name?
