  • Do you need help valuing your antique and costume jewelry #ThriftStoreFinds? Watch Ph.D. Antiques Appraiser Dr. Lori share secrets to value and find #antique jewelry and vintage #CostumeJewelry bargains. Learn about onyx necklaces, sterling silver jewelry, pearls and Native American pieces. Plus, values for rhinestone necklaces and the history of Victorian jewelry. Ask Dr. Lori to appraise your antique or vintage jewelry or thrift store find. Attend her antiques appraisal events near you or submit photos on Dr. Lori's website. @7:45 Dr. Lori offers her apology as she misspoke about the durability of 24 karat gold. 10 karat gold is typically more durable than 24 karat gold when used in jewelry. 10 karat gold is the least pure form of gold, made up of only 41% gold and 59% alloy, and is highly durable. Thank you for your understanding.

    In the 50s and 60s, my mother and grandmother would take us to the cemetery occasionally and we'd have a picnic next to our relatives' graves. I always found it relaxing. We'd walk all over the cemetery looking at the old headstones. There were all sorts of heirloom roses and flowers growing wild.

      @@marcellajaynes5997 That's so rude! To answer your question, I have seen obese older people, they're my grandparents, my grandpa is 80 and my grandma is 77 and they may not be the healthiest- which most of their health problems isn't related to being obese- but they're still going strong!

My mother has been overweight her whole life, all 85 years of it. I used to collect vintage jewelry in the ‘80’s while in college, it was very affordable and I was enthusiastic. I had many, many signed pieces. I moved to the west coast, my home was burglarized and they took a pillow case off my bed to use for all my jewelry. Since then I’ve only purchased a few pieces, most unsigned. Interesting to come across this channel today.

    Enjoy your videos. Heads up, I believe 24k to be more malleable then 10k and vise versa with durability. 10k is more durable then 24k which is the reason the other metals are added to the gold. They make the items stronger and less prone to bending and scratching. Looking forward to next video.

      Thanks for watching. Yes, did you see my note in the comments? It's taped live and I just misspoke :)

    Thank you for the information Dr Lori. I have an antique jewelry box full of costume jewelry I inherited from my Grandma. I used to play with it as a child. I let my own grandchildren play with it. I had no idea that it was valuable. What is the best way to care for it so I can pass it on to the next generation?

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  4 роки тому +3

      Well, I hate to take toys away, but you might want to find out which pieces are the most valuable and let the kids play with the not so valuable. Please don't forget to ask the grand kids if they want the pieces too. Maybe you can put those select pieces away for them. Do you have a jewelry box to store them in where the pieces aren't touching each other? Keep them in a space where you'd like to live, not the attic or basement.

    For many years I collected vintage costume jewelry. I have boxes and boxes of many similar to those you are showing, plus lots of rhinestones brooches, but, is time to get rid of them. Your evaluations sound wonderful, problem is, where do I go to sell them for these prices? I would settle for much less than the values u put on them. No where locally will give me anything close to these prices, and even ebay prices are horrible. 30 years ago, when I first started collecting them they were selling so a decent amount, but, I wasnt wanting to sell then, I was strictly collecting. My bad, maybe I should have sold them then to get a pretty profit.

      Brenda, my values are what people are actually paying. I offer online appraisal reports that show you where pieces like yours actually sold and for how much. Don't make the mistake when selling that your stuff is not worth much. You'll lose a lot of money that way. The places you mentioned are not the only places to sell.
