Thank you so much for demonstrating the righting. I watched this video and on our fourth time sailing the weather changed unexpectedly and we caught a microburst that instantly capsized us. Because of this video we didn’t panic and knew what to do to get her righted. We ended up taking on a bit of water in the hull so we now have a hand pump on the boat, an extra emergency line, a knife just in case, and a small line with foot loop to help me get back on the boat. People asked how we knew what to do and we told them about your brilliant video. They cheered as we righted it and screamed Thank Goodness for You Tube. Then they got to witness me wriggle, grunt and slide like a walrus on land. lol.
Thank you I watched this a while ago and today I flipped tandem island in 15 knot winds on the lake. I didn’t have a rope. So folded in both AMAs, secured with bungee cord. I actually grabbed the mirage drive blades and dagger board, sailed was unfurled and I did remember to release mainsheet. I pointed the boat so the mast was pointing up wind when it started to right. Worked a treat. Would not have liked to do this under duress without having watched this video! Thank you!!!
Not sure if it's anything like righting a regular hobie cat, but the wind is a big help or hindrance depending if you have a tranp or not. Point into the wind, or have the wind blow onto the tramp to help, makes all the difference
Adding my THANKS! for this, from Long Beach, CA. I've never done it; I'm on my second AI now and do a lot of sailing in the open ocean. This could be a life-saver. Would love a Part 2 vid with images of the line, bag, etc. Thanks again!
I always wondered how I would flip my kayak back in place if I ever flipped. this kayak is a pain when it comes to transportation without a cart or re flipping but thank god I found this
@ 5:25 and 5:46 for exmple there is huge stress on the folded in AMA/AKA. I wonder if one should first tie off the AMA to the boat using its attached elastic cord to help prevent it coming back out during this procedure, then as you are raising the boat put one foot on the AMA or maybe tying it off before it gets to this point to keep it from tucking under the boat so much, not sure how easy it would be? I only mention this as I noticed on another channel someone snapped their AKA off during a recovery.
Good summary for righting the AI and TI. Have done similar test with my AI but sold it last year for my TI. Same concepts for righting apply. Like the rope ladder idea. If the wind is blowing hard....need also to consider the angle to the wind prior to righting the boat. A strong wind could both help and hurt the righting process, especially if you have the tramps deployed. Agree keeping the head above water is important. i do lots of winter sailing with my dry suit....adds a big safety factor with the cold water (2-5 deg C). Are you using dry gloves also?
Having had dingy experience and sail my own Hobie Revolution with sail kit and Hobie sidekicks if I had the space an Ai or Ti would be my dream watercraft, how hard (or easy are they to accidentally capsize?
just a thought. the ama is held in place by a bungie cord. would it not be easier to take the one off next to the main hull so reducing the effort needed to push it under water.
zakpapa21 no as it would be difficult to keep hold of the ama and right the yak, especially in rough sea and with wind but thanks for your contribution

Thanks and appreciate, glad it worked out well
This deserves so many more views

Dan Low Good work and thanks for sharing your technique.
Thank you for the demo. I sure learned something and I will carry a rope with me from now on.
Hey guys thanks very much for doing this and sharing it - could save a life or two - makes it much easier to understand the process.
The Best video!!! Thank You

You guy are doing amazing how-to tutorial vid.

So good Overturn 👍⛵
Thanks so much! One question. Did all these Hobbies' have righting lines already installed?
Great Vid guys, Thank you! I haven't flipped mine yet, but now I know what to do!
I always wondered how I would flip my kayak back in place if I ever flipped. this kayak is a pain when it comes to transportation without a cart or re flipping but thank god I found this
Awesome video. Great knowledge to have and hopefully never have to use.
Did this the other week at the Abrolhos Islands. took me a bit of time but got there eventually :).
I don't think I would be able to bring her back up with my current weight LOL Excellent video! I'm sharing it in my FB page :)
you never know what you are capable of - hope you enjoyed and thanks
Just seen this. Good vid. Noticed mast whipped back and forth as TI righted. Any damage to the mast base? TIA
Hi Carole, no damage the Hobie is a very robust machine
Would it not be better to attach a paddle leash before rightening ? Great video.
Where do you attach the righting line to the hull?

This was excellent. I was wondering the best technique to right a capsize on this Hobie Island model.
One more THANK YOU!
Great video!
Can you add a mast float at the top on these units?
Great Video indeed. New Adventure owner. This makes a difference. A++
Well done and good video! Thank you!
Great skill to have, and hopefully never have to use, unless you break tbe aka brace pin!

Very hard to capsize main issues are coming in on a wave and being driven sideways, or strong winds
very nice job boys.....

awesome video!
does anyone recommend a mast float, similar to those on the Wave etc.?
Would like to see how much harder this is with the sail unfurled which would be the case in an unintentional capsize?
5.20 in shows righting unfurled
I located the mast and then was able to feel for the two blocks and release the main and furl in the sail before righting.
very useful video, what would you do if the sheet was in power at the time of capsize?
Great vid cheers. I almost drowned 20 feet from shore once so I'm all about safety videos.
Can this be done without the rope?
yes with both Amas folded in, its not easy, I think we did demo on this in the second video
🥰
espetacular
Hi had difficulty with the white on white text, plus more time spent on describing the righting line would help top. But thanks
how would you do this with the sail unfurled?
about 5 mins in we show demo with sail unfurled
Looks like the aka arm that is folded under is under tremendous stress
Yes it is a bit, we did this 5-6 times to test the strength and all was good with no issues
Interesting vid (btw, it's an 'ama' not an 'arma')
Please, correct it in all your video: it's not "ARMA", it's "AMA"! Thanks...
amas
Ama. Not arma.
The best thing to do is not capsize in the first place. Reef in your sail.
