Suzuki 2.5hp install to Hobie AI
Переглядів 11 тис.7 років тому
I have installed a 2.5hp Suzuki to my AI and the findings are as follows Fuel consumption approx 1 litre per 50mins or 8-10klm per litre depending on weather and sea conditions. Good for no or low wind conditions and fishing Good for upwind, but leaves you with the feeling you are in a dingy with a motor. So basically if the wind is going to blow all day leave the motor at home. If the wind pre...

Walkerville to Waterloo bay Wilsons Prom 26th Jan, we did return but that's another edit job hope you enjoy, learnings were Hobie AIs and TIs leak in certain conditions and always carry a bilge pump, a manual pump is a must SLH Mornington have them and a submersible connected to a battery is a bonus. We were carrying a lot of camping gear (30 to 40kg) each which impacts yak buoyancy.

Hobie AI and TI capsizing and righting demo part 2
Переглядів 7 тис.8 років тому
Capsizing and righting the Hobie AI part 2 Frankson was going to be blowing 20 plus knots but didn't quite get there. This clip focuses on righting the AI with only the parts on a standard AI and no additional righting line. It takes a bit more upper strength but it can be done. We tried a drift chute but to our surprise the wind pushing the AI was not strong enough to bring the nose around int...

Capsizing and Righting a Hobie AI and TI with Jason, Ben and Mike. This video is a capture of our experience and insights when capsizing and righting the AI and TI, we do note that this was in reasonably good conditions and we will look to replicate this in the bay to see the additional difficulties faced with the impacts of wave and wind direction and the use of a drift chute out the front of ...

When is the next trip. Moving to Tas end of the year. I have a Fishpro Trophy and have done many 200km days. Super keen to do a multi day adventure.
I'm subscribing, do it!
🥰
Thanks so much! One question. Did all these Hobbies' have righting lines already installed?
This deserves so many more views
Thank you for the demo. I sure learned something and I will carry a rope with me from now on.
A couple days ago, as I was leaving the harbor, I forgot to fold out the amas before unfurling the sail, and I went over, just like at 3:30 in this video. I was quickly blown to a dock, and there wasn't room to right the boat using the technique in this video, so I climbed onto the dock and got it upright (not easy, as it was hard to get any leverage). I've got a jib too, and a bunch of other gear, so it was a bit complicated, but not too bad. IMHO, the key is to uncleat the sail. In any case, I plan to practice soon in open water...
Just seen this. Good vid. Noticed mast whipped back and forth as TI righted. Any damage to the mast base? TIA
Hi Carole, no damage the Hobie is a very robust machine
Thank you so much for demonstrating the righting. I watched this video and on our fourth time sailing the weather changed unexpectedly and we caught a microburst that instantly capsized us. Because of this video we didn’t panic and knew what to do to get her righted. We ended up taking on a bit of water in the hull so we now have a hand pump on the boat, an extra emergency line, a knife just in case, and a small line with foot loop to help me get back on the boat. People asked how we knew what to do and we told them about your brilliant video. They cheered as we righted it and screamed Thank Goodness for You Tube. Then they got to witness me wriggle, grunt and slide like a walrus on land. lol.
Thanks and appreciate, glad it worked out well
Great skill to have, and hopefully never have to use, unless you break tbe aka brace pin!
Respect. Q.E.D.
When you made it to Erith Island for the night did you beach the ski completely overnight? Great video Michael
No we anchored them just off shore, tide was too big and beach minimal
@@michaelcarew the night your engine flooded. Is there a way you could of stopped it from happening if you knew? Could a rain cover go over it to stop waves and rain getting into it. I’ve ordered an FXHO Yamaha and worried about the issues I’ll have with anchoring offshore. It’s a wonder someone hasn’t made up a light weight trolley that you can pull the skis up onto the beach with sand wheels. But probably way too heavy
@@goldlad3875 Not unless I had of beached it, I was later told by Sea Doo that you should not leave the ski in water overnight as they can sink, and mix of waves and tide I think
Thanks heaps for the info Michael. Are all you guys still associated with JetSkis now. Or have you guys gone with boats or kayaks. Absolutely loved the footage of your trip to Tassie. I’m keen to get to Flinders Island next April for the mutton bird season. Find someone who can bring my JetSki up onto the grass with a trailer. Then checkout Flinders for a week and then return via deal and hogan. Would love to do it with a group like you did it
@@goldlad3875 make a video if you do
I second everything said here; awesome adventure! Loved every minute of it. Thanks so much for letting us take the ride with you!
Where do you attach the righting line to the hull?
Legends🤙🏻🤙🏻
interesting, a mast head float would work on those things
nice video mate Safety Beach?
Bloody awesome effort guys. This is what Jetski’s are meant for. Not just pulling doughnuts 5 metres from the beach. Did you spot any Sharks out there? Would love to have a crack one day! Well done to you all.
Good videos - keep them coming. Love the speed with the spinnaker! Agree it can be a bit much to handle in a stiff breeze.
Nice to have a motor but there’s something magical when the sails fill up with air !!
Crazy, I avoid the surf
Good times 👍🍺 Subbed
Now that’s a damp ride. Tramp catching wind, half the hull underwater… been there. It’s fun most of the time, but I’ll admit sometimes I wish there were a center console AI ;)
Yep great fun, I'm planning on buying another
So what was your speed WITH and also WITHOUT the spinnaker in 35Km winds ?
Hi Alan, in 35k winds with the wind behind up to 10kph, I went out on another trip prior to me having a spinnaker and the guy I went with who had a spinnaker left me for dead, 60mins into the trip he was out of sight he was so far ahead.
The Best video!!! Thank You
Ama. Not arma.
The Hobie Islands really transform when you add a spinnaker sail. Awesome 😎👍
Thanks nery nice.
Great video... I have a similar story.. Did it in 2019, and my GTX filled with water overnight at Lady Barron. Unlike you, I didn't risk it, and went down the insurance path and had it shipped home. We are doing the same trip again in March this year - hoping to successfully complete it. Awesome to capture it on the GoPro!
It was an amazing journey thanks for the comments
How did you go second time around PC???
Almost four years down the road from original implementation -- any adverse affects on the hull?
Wonder why the trampoline wasn’t rolled up in the heavier wind when the main sail was furled. It’s just another sail area that should be reduced in heavy air.
Thanks for the comment, good point, we were stretching the Hobies to see what they could do for a planned Crossing to Tasmania, I was amazed at how tough they were, but we had one fold when we tried crossing Bass Strait so did it on Jet Ski, not quite the same ua-cam.com/video/jciU4oc9WzQ/v-deo.html
Absolutely brilliant! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks very much for sharing! This is very helpful! I have never practiced capsizing my TI and I know I should!
Echoing the other people saying remove the mast to make it easier. You want to get these boats back over ASAP because they can take on water, I found that out when I capsized my revo 11 with sail. I did remove the mast but even in the couple minutes upside down, it took on enough water to need bailing before it was stable enough to pull the mast up, partly due to the weight of the sail I’m sure. Obviously the AI has a big buoyancy advantage, might not be as big a deal on those.
Would it not be better to attach a paddle leash before rightening ? Great video.
So good Overturn 👍⛵
Great vid cheers. I almost drowned 20 feet from shore once so I'm all about safety videos.
Awesome video. Great knowledge to have and hopefully never have to use.
The best thing to do is not capsize in the first place. Reef in your sail.
Having had dingy experience and sail my own Hobie Revolution with sail kit and Hobie sidekicks if I had the space an Ai or Ti would be my dream watercraft, how hard (or easy are they to accidentally capsize?
Very hard to capsize main issues are coming in on a wave and being driven sideways, or strong winds
I haven't done the crossing, but know plenty who have paddled it, and I think there's no way I'd punch out into Bass Straight in those conditions in those craft. Check out Beau Miles' sea kayak videos on YT. Watching those it seems to me the key is time and patience - time to island hop and patience to wait for the next set of right conditions.
Good video.
This was excellent. I was wondering the best technique to right a capsize on this Hobie Island model.
Happened to stumble on this and glad I did. What a phenomenal adventure. Glad you got home safely - albeit with many tales to tell.
You guys are bad ass! Google Earth tells me this is a 50 mile-ish crossing...?
un hook both amas and then it is easy to roll back over. i was able to do this by myself. Then i stand on one ama and my weight plus pulling gets it right side up. Then extend the amas back in position. if the pin breaks, it can be replaced if the seas arn't to bad. ua-cam.com/video/Ii13Qffazbc/v-deo.html
