- This 8-and-under athlete mistook the 600m mark for the 800m finish line and stopped mid-race, but still bounced back to win this chaotic 800m heat at the AAU Junior Olympics 2023.

One of the children ran in lane 2 for virtually all the race. I hope someone points this to him. He could have won. It's such a long way at that age. Well done everyone
They have so much to learn and a long time to learn it! 🤣🤣
I literally did that my junior year of high school 😂 I was a "big man" so I just did the shot put and the big man 100. I ain't know a DAMN thing about the 800....needless to say I bout died in that race
He wanted to be different
@@MNP208 I'm nearly 60 and I'm still learning, the world seems to be changing faster than I can keep up. Have a good day
I was thinking this exact same thing…I was like when is my boy going to merge! That one lane makes a big difference when you’re running around that track…especially twice! Go babies! This used to be my race❤️
The boy running the whole race in lane 2 for sure ran 820 meters 😂
Omg. He’s learning lol. He could have won
Exactly. Poor thing, I felt so bad for him. I'm looking at the screen shouting, "move over baby, MOVE OVER!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Amazing that they both Kendrick's
@@MicahMillionTso was I!! I was yelling get in the first lane. Move over!! 😂😂😂😂
That makes no sense 2 times a 400 meter track is 800 not 820
I participated in the 400m in middle school. I was unfit and didn't know how long 400m was, but not enough people were signing up so I thought I'd fill the slot.
Race day, I started off fine then quickly fell behind after 10 seconds. As the other kids were passing the finish line, I was still on the other side of the track, half a lap behind. As I approached the line, everyone started cheered my name.
I may have lost the race by a huge margin, but I gained an unforgettable memory.
@@EUCvibes poor Thang well you just tried the same thing.
@@EUCvibesit is if you comment succa
That 400m a beast.
@Webberjo When I was in high school we literally had a guy do the same thing. When he started running he ran like he was running the 100m. The other students on our team were flabbergasted. Like what is he doing!?!? He came in last and my coach said you started a little fast. 🤭 He was exhausted and could barely speak but, acknowledged that he should have started slower.
I ran the 4x4 and several other races. I wasn’t fast enough to run the individual 400m but I was fast enough to be one of the relay legs.
Track was brutal. I preferred cross country because I got to run through the woods. 🙂
@@EUCvibesMore like it’s not about you.
He stopped to encourage his brother .. brotherly love ❤️ 😊
Where did you see that
Look at how the kid in 5th place crosses the finish line 🤣😭
@NelsonJ1 Rylan left it all on the track 😂🤣😅
😂 😂 that’s that I feel like dying vibe.
Bones was rubbery 😂
I didn't see it until you said something too funny lol
😂them legs turned off off
He just stopped to catch his breath, veteran move. Nice job young man
I talked to his dad earlier today and he thought the race was over. He then found out that it wasn’t and took off running.
His dad was two time 100 AND 200 meter champion in HS, and his grandfather set records back when he was in HS.
He actually thought it was over. You can see the lady coming a few seconds later to tell them to keep going.
what time did he stop?
oh 2:50,?
shouldnt he have been disqualified for stepping out of track? lol
The tiny kid in blue that was dead last at the start is my hero those lil legs were going!!
This was exciting. The parents must be proud. I was cheering along with them.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉💯💯💯💯💯
Were you screaming like a banshee, like that one woman? 😂
my battery is on 4%
I wouldn't be proud, I'd be embarrassed that my son punched down and took pride in embarrassing other kids that weren't as talented as he is. I see a punk with no discipline in his life.
@@JGunitbro he needed to catch his breath and saw they were far enough behind him so he stopped for a second
Oh, the little ones! They all have such heart. They worked so hard, every single one of them. To me, they are all winners!
Sometimes in this world, there are only winners and losers ua-cam.com/video/ZnnOK0fHb0c/v-deo.html
Yes, but that little kid has something EXTRA! He looked out for his friend, and still had enough endurance 😊to win. We might hear his name in a couple of Olympics from now!❤
There is only one winner here as well as in chess games and spelling compétitions.
That's the attitude that creates losers
Only person got first place
His stride is so controlled compared to the others ❤
A good runner doesn’t run bouncing. The waist is stable and the legs are a blur.
That’s EXACTLY what I was looking at. His stride was fire 🔥
I learned u reach with one leg forward as if your kicking a ball and breath at a pace .is how you win
His cheating is so good compared to the others as well
This is so cute I’m over here tearing up watching up wow I wish each one in this video nothing but happiness and I wish they stay on this road as athletes
He did that 800 like it was just a walk in the park. Full of energy and could have probably done another easy 800 for the same race. Remarkable talented kid. He gonna be a champion for sure if he sticks with it. I couldn't even do half of what he did so easily. Nice work kid.
I couldn't do half of what he did at all, my out of shape butt.
How unathletic are you? If you are not old, extremely overweight or have some kind of medical condition you easily beat them 🤷🏻♂️
@@einbaum4530Why even ask if they are unathletic when they obviously are saying the kids are just doing a great job. Your comment speaks volumes about your character.
@@ericmoberg7679 I just think it's over the top to praise those children. Their abilities are showing signs of talented but they are not comperable to adults. And if those kids run twice as fast as you, you have to have some kind of issue
@@einbaum4530 you said it there is a difference between being faster and endurance. Those kids are actively running. If you are comparing to an adult who runs, you are right. But the average person's endurance would most likely lose to these kids.
2:58 is a great half mile time for a kid his age. Most adults can't even do that.
Most adults don't weigh 50 lbs. 🤣🤣🤣
@@MNP208 most adults have stronger legs
@@JamesBurge-xu8rv800m is not your typical sprints. It's less about strong less and more of enduring ones. The heavier you are, the worse it is on the legs.
what a dumb comparison to say most adults can't run that time. No kidding einstein. wake up
what are you saying @@eddiedettling9322
being young is a gift. Much love for these boys. God bless them
A lot of action jam packed into this tiny human race! 👏👏👏!
Well said 😆
💯💯💯💯💯💯
👍
Tiny humans lol
Hahaha. Yes.
Bless these Babies Hearts!! Way to push through 😂😂😂😂 Awesome job. Never give up❤❤
😊
Keep God first and trust in God
@@RheddicGreen Amen!
They all are amazing for braving the 800 at such a young age.
Oh m gosh that was exciting !!
It’s almost as if he won twice in one race!
Poor guy thinking he’d was done only to find out he wasn’t and had to catch back up and pass to actually win the race !!
I love his compadre spirit ❤ and his stellar running skills!
While in my Brooklyn NY JHS, I was a member of the Atom's Track Club. 2 of my classmates went on to become award winners at the '68 Olympics in Mexico. I am so PROUD of these young athletes 👏
The one that won ain't nothing to play with! He kept falling behind and then would gain speed when he should be tired! Stopped and STILL won! They all did great!
should have gotten DQed for going off the inside of the track.
The crazy part is if he wouldn’t have stopped then his finish time would’ve been lower wow😮
Great job to all the kiddos 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This kid is a pro, he runs with style 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Imagine what his time would have been had he not stopped!!?
What a great race, cheers to all of them and double cheers to the winner who got confused and still won, good job young man.
That really sucks when they move the finish line on ya ... Great job ! Good closer
Great job kids. I ran the 400 in high school and hated running that race. I was exhausted (liked the kid coming across the line 5th). Couldn't imagine running 800 😢😂
Yeah that boy was limping 😂
Trust me. 800 is WAY more painful than 400.
They stopped like “how many times do we have to do this?”😂😂
He showed them the HAMMOND KICK twice in one race!!!!!
They need to check his 200m split time! Lots of action and suspense. Great job kids!
I’m out of breath just watching
Soo cute. He said come on buddy you can make it🙌.
The heart of a child, humility
You can’t stop a winner!
That’s poor track management right there. Those kids should have known exactly where the finish line was
Fimally someone aknowledges that.
Super impressive hopefully he stays with it
They all did great, it takes a lot of focus and courage to execute and finish like that
These kids running 800m and I can't even run hundred😭😭😭. Congrat young man 🎉🎉🎉
This kid is amazing I couldn’t believe it😂 he really got that dog in him🏃♂️👑
When is the next tv event and what network please
Congratulations Kendrick 🏃🏾✊🏿👑
Lil man Got Spunk!!! All Heart & pretty darn good wind! Blessings 🙏💙
These kids are all my heroes , I can’t run across the street….and they ran for 5,000 miles
😂😂
I only run when they scream, "Free food" 😭
@@rebeccajohnson7427 😂 oh whatever
This is actually funny the way he looks at the person is hilarious and I'm upset because I was acutely supposed to run here 😮
Half a mile in theee minutes those kids are insane !!!!
Those are the best races! They approaching sport way better than adults!
Thats an Ilyushin 62. It is a long range Russian passenger aircraft and carries a lot of fuel. I use to watch them landing and taking off when I was a small boy and was fascinated with them. Their angle of attack was always a bit shallow due to the high take off weight. They would fly the Lima, Peru to Shannon, Ireland route non stop about 12 hours flight. They were the Russian copy of the British Vickers VC 10, another beautiful and ultra quiet aircraft.
wrong video my man
@@Fortune66 I was sooooo confused.
The front 2 Lead thought that was the finish line, but they still had another mile to go
1/8th mile left
Damn my man in the red tights didn’t even finish the race… little dude gave it everything in the first 50m.
Such Sportsmanship from the young'un he actually stopped and encouraged them to catch up.. ☺
No, he thought he’d finished - then was told he had further to go.
@@SGFlicksify
Give the kid more credit than that he knows what the finish line looks like (he raced to reach it at the end), he actually held both his hands out in like why are you guys not catching up.. C'mon now
@@natronmeans6264 you're just wrong bro
@@thebirdfromtwitter1249
Tell that to your lying eyes then.. 😏
@@natronmeans6264 He literally raised his arms and leaned in, then slowly slowed, stepping to the side. That is exactly what you do when you win a race. And what do you mean "he knows what the finish line looks like"? It's a circular track, so they pass the finish line multiple times. "Stopping to cheer them on" this is an AAU JUNIOR OLYMPICS, not a little race between friends. If you still think he stopped to cheer them on when he clearly thought it was the end (he was at 600m line not 800m) then you're just a little ignorant child.
True heart of a champion 🏆
Watching that made My legs sore lol
Great work young men keep at it
Can't wait to hear about some or most of these kids a few yrs later running at Nationals or the Olympics 🙌
He stopped at 600m because he wanted his friend to catch up amazing what kids will do. His a future track star in the making.
How the heck they didnt know it was 2 laps💀 horrible officiating
horrible coaching
They are 8 and under.
I'm sure they knew and just forgot or got confused. Easy to do when you're 8 yrs. old. No need to blame officials.
I'm not sure, but I think there was a split clock or something that resembled a clock at the 200 mark on the track because that's where the kid stopped, so maybe that's what confused him.
@@stonew1927 i ran track and field at that age. I knew exactly the distances of the races and how many laps.
What like the most is the crowd screaming….Beautiful
That was me my brother and Tito along with others running the 800m for Cape May County OLYMPICS in 1978. Tito and my brother passed me and they went neck and neck till the end. I won because they were later disqualified for entering a race over the age.
Wow, how do these runners not know where the finish line is.
Crazy! Congrats the thw winner🎉
Probably because they are 8 YEARS OLD OR YOUNGER!
They are 8 and under.
He obviously trains with Sifan Hassan
Well done young man!
That stride was great. Hope he sticks with track
I have watched this a few times and I just keep cheering go LLEGS...2 LL'S YES double speed he stopped to wait for them cause he didnt want to be at the finish line alone he knew he had it the first time around❤
Actually I believe he stopped bc he saw the official on the track holding a yellow flag. He thought that was the finish line. In fact, the entire lead field thought it was the end of the race... you can see everyone pullup. The official had to yell at them to KEEP GOING! LOL
Future us Olympians right there
he didn't want to leave his friend behind, he was encouraging others
This kids is MAGICAL!!!
This kid will succeed in ANYTHING he chooses to do in life. He showed drive, class, sportsmanship, poise and skills WELL BEYOND his years. I hope to see him winning in high school, college and professionally if it is what his heart desires. Awesome kid all around.
CHAMPION...extra gas in the tank. That's a v8 boy !!
They went prepared. Shoutout to theparents and teachers who explained them how far to run.
That long jump at 3:24 looked painful 🥴
That was funny!😂
LOL, classic
Oh, he wasn’t messing around that last stretch. Wow. Truly exciting to watch.
Kids are so funny! That was a great race! I couldn’t run at that age due to asthma but when I got the right medication,I made up for it!😊
Simple disqualification for leaving the track
Yup.
He probably did get disqualified after they reviewed it cause he definitely stepped out of the track but they never showed the full race standings so who knows?🤷♂️
Now Miguel you do know they're children right? Get one of your kids to splain this to you jerk.
It's not fair to all the other kids he confused, they should rerun this heat.
No, if they knew when to finish then they wouldn't have gotten confused. If they got confused that was on them. He also stopped, fell behind several of those same kids, and ended up passing them anyway.
@@stonew1927the official came on track waiving the flag in FRONT of the boys causing them to stop. When an official impedes your progress what are you supposed to do? What she did caused a ripple effect in this heat. She messed up everyone's chances of getting to the podium.
@@coreyford9418 I suggest you review the video. You did NOT see any official "come on the track waiving the flag in FRONT of the boys causing them to stop." Funny how people see what they want to see! LOL What you did see is an official come on the track and tell the boys that the race was NOT over and to continue running AFTER the first one stopped. In no way was she the cause of the boy stopping or any of the others. The others simply stopped because the first one did, which caused them to become confused. It happens when you're 8 yrs. old. But at your age you should definitely not be confused by what the video shows. No excuse for that!
Naw that little winner jetted out way in front and would have won anyway the first time…he just won the second time….HE WON FAIR AS HELL
@@mrs.patricewhyte5024 no one is saying he didn't win fair. The official messed up his time. He won the heat but did not get a medal because of her actions. She hurt that entire team chances of getting a PR and a trip to the podium.
Brings me back to my childhood.
That second to last turn was intense lol
Kids are awesome!
Someone needs to tell the little kid with the white headband on to start off at a slower pace because he’s got great potential, needs to learn to pace better and he’ll develop brilliantly 🤙🇬🇧
I’m imagining him shaking a handful of sunflower seeds, spitting out the shells and talking mad shit😂 you go boy🎉🥇💙
Kendrick Cunningham has an awesome stride.
What strength and resolve these young atheletes displayed. Absolutely breath-taking!

I ran track for just 2 years in high school. I ran the 200m my sophomore year and did well. My junior year I was moved to the 400m and ran a 50.8. I ran summer track that summer and was on track for sub 50 but a week before the start of my senior year track season I injured my back.
Das amazing determination.. Inspiration
