The old shrek looked creepy when they released the first 1996 version but then when they made the new 1996 shrek oh he looked handsome

2:45 in that drawing he doesn't look so bad, but in the close up animation they cross that line between hilariously ugly and actually scary looking. Probably tested it with kids and a lot of kids got legitimately scared. In the book images he looks sort of scary but also sort of charming. Also, yeah good choice not over sexualizing Fiona because I think it would have played bad with the character. I think people would have thought "Oh she's slutty, of course he doesn't like her at all.". All of their final decisions really were the optimal choice for making it an iconic movie.
