His Shrek sounds like an entirely different character. In this it seems clear that he wants to have his own place away from his PARENTS and have a family, but the one we got seemed to be a decent bit older, definitely having been alone for a long time.

@@zenituragaming5043 Mike Myers did more than just change a few things. First off whenever a new actor takes over a role that’s not fully developed yet the writers tend to adapt the story and character a bit to fit the new actor. Secondly, and my main and final point, Myers completed the film in his typical speaking voice but was unsatisfied and asked to re-record his lines in a Scottish accent, similar to the one he does for Fat Bastard.

Mike Myers at first used his original voice but then at the last second decided to do the Scottish accent which made the studio spend almost 5 million dollars to fix the movie & to fix the scenes of Shrek so the accent would fit but Mike Myers has denied that this happened but DreamWorks still claims that this happened so all we can do is speculate

Chris Farley's Shrek sounds more chill than the original. yes, he has layers in his personality to protect himself from the world and has the same struggles with Myers' Shrek but their difference is how they cope with it. farley's Shrek copes by being motivated by his parent's love and he sounds more disappointed because the world doesn't love him. Myers' Shrek on the other hand copes by shutting himself from the world isolating himself since he never found anyone who would actually love him for who he is, so the revelation is more cathartic because it shows his frustration with the world and tearing down a "layer" from donkey

I can hear the Mike versions in my head, heavy and extremely melancholy. I can't imagine how it would feel to take words out of the dead's mouth like that.
I hardly knew about stories surrounding Chris, but I really worry that portraying this character did not help his mental health at all. I can imagine the role of shrek could feel far too real for him.
I am really glad they cut the parental trauma out of the final film, and instead focused on society's missteps and judgements, rather than psychoanalyzing how Shrek's character was raised.

This scene is pretty haunting for a specific reason. Chris Farley's public image was one of a guy who liked to party. But it was clear he was suffering from severe emotional hang-ups. And these emotional issues drove him into a destructive spiral that ended his life. By watching this footage, we see not only a lost movie, but an insight into the harsh feelings of one of the most tragic figures in American comedy.

Not only is the portrayal of shrek nothing like what he was like in the movies, the relationship between donkey and shrek is also shown from a different angle. Farley really showed the depths of the character and his acting abilities. And Donkey was not this annoying goofy sidekick, but more like someone that tried to befriend someone who has been alone for far to long and just wants peace and companionship. This is beautiful.

In addition to the fact that Farley passed away during the making of this film, what also makes me sad is hearing his performance. They picked a great scene from the movie that had humor, but also showed more depth in Shrek's character, and if you listen to Farley's voice he's hitting those emotions perfectly. I think this clip shows us a glimpse of Farley being able to hit those dramatic notes in addition to being the clown. Who knows, maybe he could've gone on to do some more serious movies, or sort of dramedy roles, and he might have been great in them. It's sad we'll never be able to see that. Which is interesting that Jack Black became the voice of Po in Kung Fu Panda, and it makes me wonder if Chris Farley’s Shrek would’ve had the same kind of personality as Po, wanting to be included and having the same kind of young determination that Hercules had, four years before Shrek. And I bet this Shrek would probably be a younger adult who becomes an unlikely hero and everyone nicknames him “kid” the same way the Genie calls Aladdin, the Gargoyles call Quasimodo and Phil calls Hercules “kid”. Fun fact was that Chris Farley was also considered for a role in the Disney movie Dinosaur (2000). After his death, his character was completely rewritten to an elderly female dinosaur.
Another fun fact is that Bill Murray and Nicolas Cage were also considered for Shrek. Bill Murray lost interest as Shrek took too long to get made while Nicolas Cage declined as he didn’t wanna look like an ogre. He has regrets about turning down Shrek and ultimately went on to star in the Croods.

The tone and demeanor this Shrek places is different from the one we got, this Shrek is more of a laid-back type of guy whom comes off of as a bit more puzzled and confused over societies treatment of him.
Both the Chris Farley Shrek and the Mike Myers Shrek we got, are necessarily hiding their emotions but their ways and tone of doing so is different.
The Chris Farley Shrek talks in a way where he doesn't want to talk about his emotions, but when he does, he is venting frustrations with being lied to by his parents. His dilemma is more of a character vs self idea, where he is trying to prove himself as having worth. With the goal of getting a home for himself where he is wanted.
Mike Myers Shrek comes as more hurt due to his experience, with him covering his feelings with a rough exterior shell of emotions. He also doesn't want to talk about his feelings, but it's less to do about his insecurities and more to do with his frustrations.
Mike Myers Shrek doesn't express his goal, more than the aim to get his swamp back. He only vents enough to suggest that his goal is complete isolation from society due to its treatment against him. More of man vs society, In what you feel that's necessary to live alone and isolated from a society that had hurt him.
From what I acquired just based off of the scene, the movie would have a completely different tone if it was with Chris Farley
The Chris Farley version would have likely been a less emotionally frustrated, more emotionally driven type of Shrek. With the goal of keeping his land in order to have and possibly build a place for a family. So he can feel wanted.
The type of Shrek we got, or the Mike Myers version, is more emotionally frustrated and has essentially given up on living with society.
Yes this Shrek also wants a home, but is more pessimistic against the idea, seeing it as essentially pointless. In which the goal is just essentially to get his land back to live in isolation.
As if he already accepted his place in isolation against society. With his entire dreams of wanting to feel wanted, essentially given up on.
The quest for Fiona would serve a different emotional purpose as the Chris Farley Shrek would use it to essentially prove himself, possibly coming off as more friendly to Fiona but conflicted against his self doubts of his worth
In which the scene where he overhears donkey talking to Fiona with her saying "a horribly ugly beast" in reference to herself but mistakes it for against himself. Would have crushed his determination and self worth feelings, possibility giving up on the idea of getting with and starting a family with Fiona. You would have saw a more emotionally sad and depressed Shrek, who's self worth is crushed. Only to be reestablished with Donkey clarifying she wasn't referring to him when she made those statements.
Where has the Mike Myers Shrek, Saw the quest for Fiona as nothing more than a mission in order to get his goal of getting his land back. He had no emotional goal to get with anyone
In which this Shrek after overhearing donkey and Fiona, only re-establishes the pointless effort it is to live with society, using more as an excuse to accept his fate. That's why he comes off as more hostile and angry vs a likely Chris Farley adaption. As a Chris Farley Shrek would of been sad for having his dreams crushed, a Mike Myers Shrek is more irritated with himself for allowing himself to believe he's worthy of love, and not residing himself to his fate of living in isolation.
That's how these two are different. The Chris Farley Shrek wants to prove himself as worthy, where as the Mike Myers version essentially just wanted to live in isolation as he already believes he's not worthy of love or does not believe he can live with society. Giving up already, and living with more of a pessimistic output.
In which would have completely set a different tone for the movie entirely.

This is quite cool, although I think Dreamworks made the right choice to cut out Shrek's sympathetic pursuit of parental perils and keep the focus on his relationship with the existing characters. Having him find love, find a friend, find a home, *and* get over his self-depreciating ogre heritage issues seems like one too many plot points to divide a character into. I also prefer Shrek as someone simply ignorant of what makes him content rather than a secret softy whose true motives require leading questions and an exposition scene to understand.
Besides, they went back and wound up making a whole movie out of this general concept in the last Shrek film, with Shrek finding himself looking around at his domestic life and suddenly not feeling "ogre" enough. And a that point, the plot device felt like a natural progression because we experienced all of Shrek's "backstory" leading up to it.

When Farley passed away, and Myers was confirmed as his replacement, they rewrote the movie with Myers'

I feel like the “I know” at the end of the scene tells you everything you need to know about Farley’s version. The same line is in the original, but it has a completely different tone. It’s more of a “yeah, you’re cool” vibe. Farley, meanwhile, says it so softly and gratefully, almost like it’s everything he’s ever hoped for to have a friend.
