Took my 2024 for work today, they gave me a 2025 Clubman loaner. It was really nice. Smooth and quick. Need to test the 2 door. Not ready to trade, but will not say anything bad about the new design.
Just the fact that it’s a regular gasoline engine, no dumb hybrid, this is really really nice. It maintained the mini look, with comfort and technology inside. Only thing I don’t like about this particular spec, white seats and those wheels. Besides that, this is a 8/10. Oh and I will use all the 230hp and the 200hp from the S.. 😅 hopping on the freeway here in SoCal.. people CRUISE at 90mph.. you need acceleration and top end these days.
I've test drove the S and it seemed quick, but I have yet to try a base model. I'll take your word that it's pretty quick. The only other difference I've noticed is the S has a little larger roof spoiler on the back. I'm planning on making a purchase in the next month or two. Thanks for the review!
I got a C here in Europe (3 cylinder). The C is quick enough, no real need for the S if you're not in a competition. Go cart mode + low gear selection gives plenty of power to have fun. I'm amazed at the overall feel of the car.
I just received my 2025 Mini Cooper S 4 door hardtop. I got the indigo sunset blue with the white roof and mirrors. I love the color! In the sunlight, it has shades of purple.
It's 40 more hp. But yeah, the base vs the S are much closer now. I bought a 2015 S brand new and it was much different than the base model. The 2025 blurs the line. Is it worth the extra 2k?
It's interesting that MINI didn't make any apparent visual differences between the Cooper C and Cooper S, unlike all prior generations. Instead, in addition to the obvious power differences between the two models, it seems MINI is using paint colors and options to differentiate the models now. That is, the Cooper C is available with many paint colors, but the Cooper S is available with those plus a few more. And another example, the Cooper S is available with dynamic dampers but the Cooper C is not. I'm wondering if there are any mechanical differences other than the engines. Previously, the Cooper had smaller front brakes than the Cooper S, for example.
Good questions. And I didn’t know about dynamic dampers. This particular car did not have the upgraded Soundsystem but I think that was partly because it’s a signature plus and not an iconic. I’m not sure what the differences are, but it is kind of interesting that there is so little difference That it’s hard to tell them apart aside from the S badge
@@TheMINIac My local dealership has been getting in signature plus (S, two door HT) that has the Harmon Kardon speakers. Not an option when you build one yourself at Mini USA but apparently the dealerships can order upgraded sound for you without you going all out for Iconic.
What are the MPG ratings on the Cooper? I previously owned a 2002 Cooper S 6spd, and a 2011 Cooper S 6spd.......and I am interested and started thinking another Cooper S..but I am older now and thinking a Cooper ( w/161hp/184 torque) is just fine.....My alternate consideration is a Honda Civic Sport Touring Hybrid sedan ( 200hp/ 232 torque -45- 50mpg) for same $33k . Please advise
It's one thing MINI decides to only offer automatic in their cars.... but a Cooper S without paddle shifters. Really? Why did BMW/MINI think it would be a wonderful idea to delete that?
I think that Mini designers are trying to gradually converge the style of the car to the electric version, which does not have paddle shifters or scapes anyway. If we think that in a few years all cars will be electric, this would make sense.
@@cmeluzzi if you’ve read why he designed it this way, you’re correct. The idea was to make them look nearly identical so that the only real decision becomes electric or combustion.
My wife loves this car (she drives a fiat 500) and it would be good for her but she is looking for the four door. Wondering if that will be available in the future?
Yes, here in Europe it's the 3 cylinder 1.5. I got one, still waiting for it to arrive. I preferred the C version with a better trim for the same price of a more basic S. Most of the time it's better to have comfort than a few extra power (I'll use it mostly for commuting in heavy traffic anyway).
Looks nice from the outside but the interior is a deal breaker for me that looks awful. It would be cool if it had three dials Speedo, tach, info. some basic climate controls and a manual transmission.
MINI’s goal was to harken back to the original 1959 Morris and Austin Mini’s which didn’t have much in the way of gauges. They were going for clean lines and minimalist aesthetics. Something that the brand went away from for a while and decided to go back to. The result is a polarizing aesthetic for the folks used to gadgets and gizmos and dials and knobs and switches. Something the original was just not meant to have.
As a fan and owner of R56, R60 and F56, I feel that they ruined the real Mini design. Both on the exterior, but especially inside. Maybe that is what the market wants, but... Nevertheless, 👍 for this video.
Jeez in addition to no visible exhaust pipes and no hood vent, we also get NO gear shift to hold on to, only buttons? They really neutered this car. ☹️
@@TheMINIac yes, i agree, they tried to fit modern elements in old design, but its not 1959 already, and f-series design was perfect, with all switches, knobs, and even manual seat adjustment was’t a big deal. Cloth interior elements is a way to make it cheaper, as visually so as in production. It faster gets dirtier, but it’s easier to customize up for the customer. Maybe it would be reasonable in case of spending saved on interior design money on improvement of the engine weak spots, for example, such as weak engine mounts or leaking coolant from oil filter housing, or stucking fuel tank vent valve. Dont know, but in my personal opinion, the interior was totally spoiled. The only thing i’m sure people wait but will never have in 3d hatch is awd version, just because bmw doesnt have more less reliable 4wd system. And it is not an option for them to develop 4wd system for this chassis.
@@Sovadnb well they did make improvements to the engine, I can tell you that. The interior isn’t for everyone. I personally would love a manual transmission. But it’s not there. Maybe they’ll bring it back but I don’t know. With all the autonomous driving systems; maybe they won’t.

The sound is from the sound generator. You can turn the artificial sound of in the settings :)
I test drive a Cooper, not the S, and holy smokes was it fast. Not sure if the extra 20 horsepower is worth the extra money. I loved it though

I was told mid 30’s or so maybe higher.
My current 2022 JCW I get around 25 to 28 mpg
No paddle shifters?? 😢
That’s the one drawback I think negatively affecting the brand currently, outside of a proper stick shift.
Let's see what the JCW version has to offer later this year! Hoping for BIG Things from this model?
I’m looking forward to driving one.
I enjoyed watching the Video Review 😊
I see no point to choose the S over the base C. It is plentiful powerful enough, looks just like the S, minus the S badge
There’s definitely not enough styling differentiation between the base model and the S with this latest design

We don’t know if it’s a permanent thing and also, some of the earlier F56 Cooper S models didn’t have paddle shifters either.
I checked. If you purchase a 4-door Cooper S and opt for JCW package, you get paddle shifters. And one sharp looking 4-door.
