These demos have been great in helping me decide which amps I wanted, and I have recently purchased a JVM, a haze 40 which is awesome, and an MG2 for practice. So, thanks!
Exactly at 3:03, when he switches to OD1orange, it sounds positively HUGE. When he hits that D powerchord with the added A note on the bass, That thing really screams with harmonic overtones. I have this exact same setup (amp and cabinet) and I can say it completely changed the way I look at Marshall. This thing can handle most anything you can throw at it. I play through an ESP LTD EC-500s, btw.
Paul Gilbert often uses various Marshalls and has given praise for them on various tours. I once had the chance to talk to him about using random amps on tour and he was really thumbs up for the Marshall. Also Joe Satriani has a JVM signature series
Ok, one of the completely right thing George has done here, if not the most correct thing when demoing a tube amp, is that he has the amp cranked up loud. master volume on 7, channel levels surely about 5. for a 100 w head, it is VERY LOUD and drives the power amp section effectively. ANY tube amp sounds better when cranked, it is a fact. And no other companies do this for their demos, and they certainly lose some "kudos". Marshall is rock, and volume. Period.
I just bought this amp a week ago. I really love it. If you do get this amp, you NEED a noise gate for the OD1+2 channels, I bought a ISP Decimator, its the best pedal Ive ever owned. Cuts all feedback without affecting your tone at all. Highly recommend.
Actually, It's amazing how much this amps responds to "touch". After adjusting the force and range of movements with my fretting and rhythm hands I was able to suit the amp and believe me, it got that much better. I personally dislike the demo of the vintage modern by the very same guy demoing this amp but Paul Gilbert (who I've seen live last year) gets a monstrous tone out of it. I guess that's what the world of guitar is all about: what works for YOU.
@PracticalGuitar the marshall jvm manual says: NEVER use your amp without a (speaker) load attached when the Standby Switch is ON. Marshall recommends you always leave a (speaker) load attached to the unit. you can silent record without a speaker load attached, but the standby switch must be set to standby/silent recording. also you have to find a way to connect the xlr to a 3.5mm socket. good luck;-)
I love my JVM! Its about time Marshall made a "smart" footpedal. If the cord goes bad shove another cable into the 1/4 inch jacks and your good! The 2 master volumes are great for that solo boost. I have a JCM 900 and TSL 100 collecting dust since I got this amp!! Some good deals out there right now too!
I understand that Bjorn Golette of In Flames uses the JVM series of Marshall amps, but I don't know what his EQ levels are. He has an AMAZING tone in his guitar lesson videos if you search "Bullet Ride Lesson". There are other lesson videos other than that one but i like the tone in that one a lot.
BUY THIS RIGHT NOW!!!! GOT THE 50 COMBO, ALSO 2xVINTAGE 30 CAB!!! usa strat HSS plus, sennheiser e906, that's it.. LIKE THE STRAT,OR ANY KIND OF GUITAR THIS AMP LETS YOU FEEL THE SOUND YOU HAVE EVER WANTED
Tried a jvm205 against a few ampl at weekend including 6505, tsl, engl, blackstar and a couple of others and the jvm is awesome. I love the dsl50 too though, my next amp is one of those two.
@skullchick88 i played on this head in a store and its amazing.the od-2 channel on the red mode does definetly have alot of gain and i think its almost like schuldiner distortion. very nice distortion!!
I would highly recommend this Marshall JVM. The Mesa/Boogie is much more for Metal Rhythm playing. Although it's also great for solos, its very one dimensional (It doesn't have a great clean channel). The JVM can do all that and much more.
but he has a bandanna and a low slung guitar and guitar tattoos and a finely trimmed beard and a singlet vest. He's obviously the coolest dude on the planet :I
I bought an Hughes&Kettner switchblade. It waisted the jvm I compred it with.Easily" and is warm and flowing, not Stiff and spikey like the jvm. The Switchblade is everything I always wanted my JCM800 to be!
jcm if you want to boost it with pedals and its gonna sound better than the jvm but i would suggest the jvm because of the opportunities of 12 different tones and the midi. go for the jvm!!
@mattRRgraham1996 first you need to understand is when trying to get someone elses sound or coming close is like hunting for a unicorn. if i was you i would look for an old marshall like late 60s to late 70s. after you get it take it to an amp mod guy tell him you want this sound. plug in turn it all the way up and rock out. to really get this "sound" you will need to mic your cab and run it through a pa or a recording mixer. as you can see this is a live recording and most of the time a record
I think it's bad too. Considering it's such an awesome amp to play. It's just because of the digital channel switching. Since I don't currently play in a band, it doesn't annoy me so much. But if I did, I would actually consider swapping amps. But try it out for yourself, it might not annoy you...But the transition between modes/channels is longer than most amps I have played.
@MrPeterGroove YOu ever played live? On guitar sound not much bass is needed because when drums, bass guitar and keyboard starts to play and then sometimes even the 2nd guitar if you have too much bass and very little middle you just don`t cut trough mix... Every single PERFECT bedroom sound I made on my amp sounds like shit when played live... it is just lost...
I have a TSL122, its a little unreliable and it blows fuses regularly, i'm looking to buy a more reliable one but equally as versatile - would you recommend the JVM series? i'd need the versatility of the TSL but i want to know its not going to blow a fuse mid solo.
Me and my buddies started a band, I use a Gibson epiphone junior, along with a bandit 112 amp. I'm looking for a new set up to give me a nice punk rock to heavier sound, such as Green day, Sum 41, off spring, all american rejects, all time low, taking back sunday just stuff like that. We plan on doing gigs in the future here. If anyone can give me some tips as to what style amps I'd need, and make of guitar that'd be much appreciated!
u r right. it cuts out but only for a millisecond there. the first time i watched this video i didn't notice it to be honest. i was waiting for him to switch to yellow and then red, and he said now let's go to od 2/
no it isnt.. this is the stock jvm series. Joe Satriani's signature amp is a different model to this, its a version of a jvm, but this isnt joe's model.
It's not the end of the world I guess, it's just not seamless. I don't want to put you off purchasing this amp, cos it's an awesome versitile and great sounding head. Can you try it before you buy?
I own this amp myself and it doesn't sound weak at all, I don't think you should judge the amp off one demo. Go and try it out. The ONLY thing that shits me about this amp is the cut out when changing between modes/channels. It's a real piss-off. Other than that, this amp is amazing.
HELP! Does anyone know how to take off the metal casing over the tube in a Jvm? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find any answers. I even contacted Marshall and they didn't help
Slayer are kinda heavy but against dying fetus the are easy listening! This guy was great to listen to, he was fluent, didnt stumble over words adn he made the demo cool, even thought eh amp is not up my alley
Buy a used Peavey 5150. Look on eBay or Craigslist. It's the same exact amp Eddie Van Halen used for a lot of his work, it will give you the EXACT tone.
What do I have to do to get a similar sound as this guy does on the hard rockin' settings? can someone give me some EQ tips? I'm having a hard time taming the treble beast.
Yes you can, you will just need to switch the channels/modes manually. You can use fx pedals and the switch at the same time tho, why exactly do you want to use it without the switch?
@calibre696 well in my opinion, id get this amp, ive been trying to save up for this amp for like 6 months, so far i only have 750 bucks, but once i get the money, it'll be worth it, ive played this amp at long and mcquade and its awesome! i play 80's and 70's stuff too and this is a perfect amp. but you should just goto a guitar store and try unch of amps and see what u like
I want play music like racer-x, Judas priest, Amon Amarth should i take Marshal JVM ore Mesa/boogie dual rectifier?? I want rock tone and hi-gain in 1 what amp be better for??
Marshall for sure, but maybe mesa for amon amarth. You just cant beat marshall for classic tones, that thing will sing judas priest and racer x like heaven
The marshall will do a great high gain channel, an excellent crunch and overdrive channel and a good clean. The mesa will give an outstanding high gain metal rhythm sound, and a great clean, but wont sound as great in the between, unless you like grunge. Also way more expensive
@miketarno A little advice: You shouldn't limit yourself to guitar and amp brands like GNRSlash94. Just use your ears, and do some research. If you're looking for an amp with a classic, mid-range crunch, go with Marshall. If you're looking for a scooped, modern metal sound(which I doubt) go with Mesa Boogie or ENGL. And if you're on a budget, check out Bugera, they model amplifiers of all kinds, but they lack the quality and durability(I hear)of other brands. Good luck finding the gear you want!
These demos have been great in helping me decide which amps I wanted, and I have recently purchased a JVM, a haze 40 which is awesome, and an MG2 for practice. So, thanks!
@ledzepfan02 On standby the XLR output works so you can use it as a recording pre amp without connecting speakers. Very Handy.
Exactly at 3:03, when he switches to OD1orange, it sounds positively HUGE. When he hits that D powerchord with the added A note on the bass, That thing really screams with harmonic overtones.

Awesome vid! Finally an in-depth video of how to use this amp! Sounds great ! I want one !
Great sounds, super versatile amp and footswitch!
Easily the best amp I've ever heard. No one would buy a Mesa after playing one of these!
I use a JVM 410h its the Bollocks best amp I've ever owned don't know what I'd do without it,,, Marshall amazing
@PracticalGuitar the marshall jvm manual says: NEVER use your amp without a (speaker) load attached when the Standby Switch is ON.

Guitar ROCKS! Great playing, love the pocket players! Nice
it does it !! just traded my dual recto for this map and its sweet as hell for metal/rock

I'm getting this head with the Dave Mustaine cabinet in january! can't wait =D
I Played on this amp at my local GC yesterday, with a Damien 7. Sooooooooooo br00tal! perfect for Metlz
outstanding presentation
He pulls off the Slash look well
@EvolutionThingy not for an iMac though. I use the JVM's XLR right into my iMac's mic socket and use logic pro to record, works a dream.
does this mean when u change between the channels while let's say u go from a nice rhythm to a nice lead that this change is audible???
@skullchick88
i played on this head in a store and its amazing.the od-2 channel on the red mode does definetly have alot of gain and i think its almost like schuldiner distortion.
very nice distortion!!
@skullchick88 You don't need any boosting on this amp, it's very coherent and has ridiculous amounts of gain.
@stonerh as far as I know It's normal. It seems that has been done to avoid the "pop" sound when you switch channel
Is that a Carvin guitar?
His solo was epic
I would highly recommend this Marshall JVM. The Mesa/Boogie is much more for Metal Rhythm playing. Although it's also great for solos, its very one dimensional (It doesn't have a great clean channel). The JVM can do all that and much more.
but he has a bandanna and a low slung guitar and guitar tattoos and a finely trimmed beard and a singlet vest. He's obviously the coolest dude on the planet :I
i had one of these !
sold it for a mesa mark v never looked back
that song they play at the end, its sure as heck is inspired by Joe Satriani, it sounds almost exactly like Crystal Planet in few parts : D
he seems very happy to be there doing this demo LOL
Wow, thats the ultimate guitar shop
What mic is being used here?
what are those giant stacks behind you !!
Check out the Marshall Haze series..A 15 watt all tube beast.
Whose the dude, i think i have seen him in the back of my Guitar World magazine.
@mattRRgraham1996 first you need to understand is when trying to get someone elses sound or coming close is like hunting for a unicorn. if i was you i would look for an old marshall like late 60s to late 70s. after you get it take it to an amp mod guy tell him you want this sound. plug in turn it all the way up and rock out. to really get this "sound" you will need to mic your cab and run it through a pa or a recording mixer. as you can see this is a live recording and most of the time a record

is the first channel supposed to be like the plexi?
how's the sound being recorded?
@ChanielDang Called Chris George, he's the demo man for Marshall.
What is this? The No Sleeves Band?
@MrPeterGroove YOu ever played live? On guitar sound not much bass is needed because when drums, bass guitar and keyboard starts to play and then sometimes even the 2nd guitar if you have too much bass and very little middle you just don`t cut trough mix... Every single PERFECT bedroom sound I made on my amp sounds like shit when played live... it is just lost...
the amp was set pretty loud which is good cause then you can really hear the charesterictics of the amp/tubes!
AAAHHHRRRRR Matey! If ya don't like me amp and me electric fiddle, then you'll be walkin' the plank real soon!
marshall are the best tube amps in my opinion
@wolfgar926 are u okay, have u ever played this amp in person with 2 cabs.
I have a TSL122, its a little unreliable and it blows fuses regularly, i'm looking to buy a more reliable one but equally as versatile - would you recommend the JVM series? i'd need the versatility of the TSL but i want to know its not going to blow a fuse mid solo.

Is it me, or is there a slight delay when changing between green, orange and red modes?
is the recording bad or do this amp don't have any dynamics and sound...?
u r right. it cuts out but only for a millisecond there. the first time i watched this video i didn't notice it to be honest. i was waiting for him to switch to yellow and then red, and he said now let's go to od 2/
How do these compare to JCM 2000s? I've always liked Marshall tone, but the 2000s were pretty bad.
wat kina wah is he usin, it sounds really good?!?
@Cloerpictures - Agreed. I even have a Camry and a house. For my money it's my Les Paul through my JCM 900 that makes me go... Booiinnnng.... Enjoy!
What type of preamp tube are loaded?
My JVm don't sounds like this...
Great bass tone in the jam at the end there.. nice and fat..
no, the sound comes out of the cabinet not the head. you will damage the head if you play through it without a cab plugged in
Nice to have a bassplayer ye can't hear.
Video proves that Marshall's stays king of crunch!
Chris george? with 'Hammett' hair?
@wolfgar926 actually MG series are jvm is the best money can buy
no it isnt.. this is the stock jvm series. Joe Satriani's signature amp is a different model to this, its a version of a jvm, but this isnt joe's model.
i think he only uses the JVm for his clean sounds. Lead an Crunch are comin from an KerryKing JCM800.
It's not the end of the world I guess, it's just not seamless. I don't want to put you off purchasing this amp, cos it's an awesome versitile and great sounding head. Can you try it before you buy?
From what I can see, they are the Lead 1960 A and B
the uses the wah like Kirk, as a treble booster or scoop at first, then goes crazy on it.
@NevadaMusicUK Would this allow me to record directly into my Apple iMac, from the amps XLR to the macs 3.5mm mic socket without the need for a cab?
People knock this amp because they are for some reason expecting to hear a Friedman amp...This is a Killer amp that is distinctly Marshall sounding...
Who is that guy?
I own this amp myself and it doesn't sound weak at all, I don't think you should judge the amp off one demo. Go and try it out. The ONLY thing that shits me about this amp is the cut out when changing between modes/channels. It's a real piss-off. Other than that, this amp is amazing.
HELP! Does anyone know how to take off the metal casing over the tube in a Jvm? I've been looking everywhere and I can't find any answers. I even contacted Marshall and they didn't help
I'd recommend taking it to a amp tech
Slayer are kinda heavy but against dying fetus the are easy listening!
This guy was great to listen to, he was fluent, didnt stumble over words adn he made the demo cool, even thought eh amp is not up my alley
I was wondering how would sound this JVM410H with a marshall MC212 cabinet??
wait is this tube or SS?
@wolfgar926 my stiletto out does any marshall I've ever heard. my 79 mark iia has a world of its own.
what guitar is he using?
hey do u know of any wahs that are realy good for treble boosting?
amazing amp if only they were affordable to everyone and yea epic solo
@dynamitesteel I cant quite see for sure....but looking at the logo i think its a LAG guitar :)
Buy a used Peavey 5150. Look on eBay or Craigslist. It's the same exact amp Eddie Van Halen used for a lot of his work, it will give you the EXACT tone.
@wolfgar926 Marshall doesn't suck. Marshall is #1 for his style.
does the footswitch come with the amp?
Depends which cables you are using !
people do realize the jvm is satriani's signature amp right?
What do I have to do to get a similar sound as this guy does on the hard rockin' settings? can someone give me some EQ tips? I'm having a hard time taming the treble beast.
i got a cuestion you can use this amp whithout the foot swich ??? because i love the combination with mxr efects. and what is the cost ?
Yes you can, you will just need to switch the channels/modes manually. You can use fx pedals and the switch at the same time tho, why exactly do you want to use it without the switch?
@liambarker12, line 6 simply cannot compare to a tube amp. Or even some solid state amps with one tube in them for that matter...
@calibre696 well in my opinion, id get this amp, ive been trying to save up for this amp for like 6 months, so far i only have 750 bucks, but once i get the money, it'll be worth it, ive played this amp at long and mcquade and its awesome! i play 80's and 70's stuff too and this is a perfect amp. but you should just goto a guitar store and try unch of amps and see what u like
Is he just HUGE or is his guitar tiny? 0.0
I want play music like racer-x, Judas priest, Amon Amarth should i take Marshal JVM ore Mesa/boogie dual rectifier?? I want rock tone and hi-gain in 1 what amp be better for??

My line 6 mkii hd100 shitted out on me today, I'm looking to trade up for one of these.
best amp ever..
is the jvm the same height as the marshall ma 100 stack
@miketarno A little advice: You shouldn't limit yourself to guitar and amp brands like GNRSlash94. Just use your ears, and do some research.
