    Awesome demo Brother! You play awesome and showed what this amp can do...I only see a wah wah on the floor. Nice demo of this amp..This amp sounds like a Marshall. I like how the detail knobs work just like the Super Lead only with a master volume. When I got mine over 20 years ago, it had a master volume someone put in. This amp is from the year 1977. They did the right thing with this model. I will get one of these one day when I get my bad back fixed.

      How's the bad back?

  • @Jtomba06
    @Jtomba06 16 років тому

    yes. i just checked on of these out today. the way it was explained to me was that the body and detail were seperate pre amp volumes for the treble and bass.
    Its supposed to be like on the old plexis when you would jump the 2 channels (normal and bright) and use the vol 1 and vol 2 to control each channel.

    Awesome Marshall amp for those classic LedZep/ACDC/GNR style tones...and that should be ALL that matters to the ears of any serious "rock" guitarist!

    Best Marshall amp going... the strat demo really sounded incredible.
    Regarding people complaining about the reverb...this ain't a Fender for playing surf music. Any other verb would sound bad when turning this amp up.

  • @Civilian2.0
    @Civilian2.0 13 років тому

    To all the people saying this amp is only for punk punk and classic rock, Paul Gilbert uses the 2x12 combo version as his main amp - and Paul shreds, his tone is awesome.

  • @terminalninja
    @terminalninja 16 років тому

    it depends what u want the distortion for.
    If u want it to distort the preamp tubes by turning level up and distortion down then place it in the input.
    if u want to use the distortion from the pedal or u want to distort the poweramp tubes then put it in the loop.

  • @murfdog19

    @jvilla82688 Try the High Dynamic Range with the Mid Boost Off, Bass at 7, Middle at 5, Treble at 4, Presence at 6 with the Body at 3 and Detail at 4. You will also need to turn the Master Volume up past 5. This won't get you a perfect JCM800 sound, but it's as close as you will get with the Vintage Modern.

    Haven't used one, but valves like to be driven. I have four valve amps, two marshalls, a fender and a peavey, and I never touch them unless I'm gigging or rehearsing with the band. These tube amps also blow fuses and need re-tubed and biased regularly. if you're not gigging it's an expense you can do without. My 800 and Jubilee have been in and out of tech's for years mainly because I was playing them at home as well as gigs. Line6 is bullet proof for bedroom use.

  • @KHGuitarFreak1988
    @KHGuitarFreak1988 12 років тому +1

    Well, with some amps like Mesa Boogies, you can hard bypass that if you want. Regardless of that, it's a take on a vintage style Marshall amp. The reverb was only included because it seems the market would want one on board. Again, it's just one resistor in line if you have it on zero. I don't think people should lose sleep about it...
    PS: I prefer spring reverb as well. I just leave the reverb on my Vintage Modern on zero...

  • @arjaya

    Did you buy it? I love the sound he gets out of this amp with the strat...seems like a no brainer combination, then again I dig that style of music. The wah was used nicely with it also.

    You played on the 2266? i'm assuming its the same concept as the 2466... didn't give you that classic marshall tone? like the jcm 800? was thinking about trying the jcm2000dsl

    Granted, I don't like the onboard reverb on the Vintage Modern, but you should check out those Lexicon reverbs. Some of the greatest reverbs out there...

  • @marz9882
    @marz9882 14 років тому

    I must try this one out some time, but too exspensive for me at the moment :/ But sounds like you really get that crounch/bite tone, but also a way to fathen the tone up for solo stuff, so you get alot of tone behind the higher notes

  • @NZLeduc
    @NZLeduc 12 років тому

    Im pretty sure its mainly there so that they can count it as a "modern" feature. They had to put something new for marketing purposes and a digital reverb costs next to nothing to put into an amp. Im pretty sure you can bypass it if im not mistaken.

  • @barrywonderdog

  • @Agi07

    @musichap It's basically like sushi, either you love it or you don't. People who are playing Marshall are not very interested in clean sounds or the heavy bottom end..The AC 30 is the only thing that comes close to a real amp amongst others you've listed. I play the VM, and its the best amp for what i do..trust me you can't beat it!

  • @BeNNstAh
    @BeNNstAh 12 років тому

    spring reverb can get muddy when playing with a lot of gain... the added "noise" of the gain makes the springs move, which messes up your reverb

  • @yogithecamel
    @yogithecamel 13 років тому +1

    @JBL8863 Vintage MODERN. LoL. Robin Trower and Paul Gilbert use this amp exclusively. Robin has played all kinds of Marshalls, way more than anyone here and he claims it's just as good. Paul Gilbert used it on his latest release and Mr. Big material, he has been talking about VM for a while now. So there you have it. Two huge names from the VM camp from each side of the spectrum from Vintage to Modern.

  • @KHGuitarFreak1988
    @KHGuitarFreak1988 12 років тому

    For whatever reason that I don't know personally, Marshall went towards a digital plate reverb unit. The Vintage Modern initially wasn't going to get a reverb unit built in, but in the end it had one for versatility sake one would presume...

    When the reverb knob is turned all the way down, the only thing that is still left in the circuitry is a resistor. At the very least, I think that's what Steve (the designer of the Vintage Modern) did say about it...

    This kind is like my slx ? Only with reverb and mid boost

    • @murfdog19
      @murfdog19 11 років тому

      Not really. The SL-X has more presence and a more aggressive overdrive. The Vintage Modern is Plexi-like in the Low Dynamic Range, but in my opinion the High Dynamic Range is very harsh and tinny. I owned the Vintage Modern for two years, but struggled to get a usable tone out of the High Dynamic Range. The Vintage Modern is much more diverse than the SL-X, but I would choose the SL-X over the Vintage Modern anyday.

  • @Gonzoidzz

    probably not. You're as well with cheaper Line6 or Vox modellers if you're a bedroom player. I have a jcm800 50w 2204 that is way too loud for anything but gigs, I use a Line6 at home.

    Nothings wrong with playing through a combo.... In fact, playing a low watt combo allows you to crank it more and get better tone.... Thats what Jimmy Page did in the studio... Stacks are more fun, but using a combo and miking it through a PA system depending on the size of your gig will give you a much nicer and better cranked tone...

    too bad they don't show the clean sounds better. Play a damn strat for God's sake.
    I looked away from these ams for a long time due to no demo's of clean sound...
    Also I find it odd that no demos mention that the way the pre-amp works is just like a plexi with the norm and bright channel jumped. This is what made me finally find some great clean sounds in here. These amps do AMAZING cleans.. like a mix of jtm-45's and 1987s.
    Now only to choose between this, jtm or plexi ???? Great amps
