Before we moved out to Colorado, we lived in Orlando. We did a 5,700 mile road trip over the course of three weeks to combine a road trip vacation and investigation trip to see what part of Colorado we wanted to move into. We started in Orlando, drove to my brother's house in St. Louis, then to my sister's place in Lawrence, Kansas, then straight north through Nebraska, extreme western parts of Iowa, South Dakota to visit the Badlands and Black Hills. We also visited Devil's Tower in Wyoming before heading south back to Cheyenne, then into Colorado. We visited several Front Range cities all the way down to Pueblo to see which place felt most like home. We decided on Colorado Springs and did several day trips in the area to look at a few sights and look at houses/lots. Then, we headed back Orlando. We did all that in my 2021 Tesla Model Y LR. Overall a great experience, we did learn a lot along the way as that was our first "big" road trip in the Tesla. It is huge to combine big charging sessions with meals and if you can find a hotel with a charger - that is epic because it allows you to skip at least one charging stop in the morning.

Great video. Wondering about which dash display you have installed. New to Tesla and missing a display with basic (MPH, SOC, ODO, turn signal indicator) information in front of me. Thanks

Nice video. NWFL is my neighborhood. Familiar with all those SC stops. There are also several new SC along the coast: Gulf Shores, AL, Gulf Breeze, FL, Destin FL, Panama City, FL. There are even some along the coast in the Big Bend area, so you can stop and see "Old FL": Apalachicola, Wakulla Springs, Silver Springs, Crystal River, Manatee Springs, Tarpon Springs, etc... the trip would take much longer, but is there is much more to see than I-10 and I-75. But I know how it is when you need to get somewhere. Cheers! BTW. Did you see the "Florida Man?" 🙂

The Gulf Shores wasn't open yet when we were there. It looked done. Just no power. As for finding the "Florida Man", we did on the way back at a Hitchcock grocery store. Very strange encounter.

Great video. I’m a new subscriber and we just completed our return trip from Venice Florida to suburban Philadelphia (1,390 miles). We made a few prearranged hotel stops along the way Savannah, Richmond, Fairfax, U of MD, etc. We stopped at each recommended Super Charger and left when it told us we had enough for our next stop. Didn’t consider other SC’er stops.
A couple of questions. Any reason why you didn’t use the free FSD? I took advantage of it the entire trip because it became available the day before we left. What is a good Wh/mile range? I viewed the Energy Screen a time or two but I really didn’t understand it (I’m in my 70’s). Why did you choose other SC’ers instead of the one’s recommended (I do understand the Tampa example)? While in Venice I highly recommend charging at the BrewPub on Jacaranda, they have good food, cold beer and friendly staff. Thank you.

We used FSD as much as possible. I didn't get V12 until the way back to Iowa. (Next video) For a Model Y, my 60K average is 305/wh/mi. With you being down south, I would expect it to be a little better. I generally use the SC it recommends but I also look at the charge times. I don't like to charge for more than 20-25 minutes. The car favors longer stops. You can often play around and get to your destination faster by stopping more often. 80% of the time, I just go where the car tells me.

Wow! At the hotel after charging it estimated arriving in Marianna with ~27%, but the actual was 11%. Do you think the difference was due to the cool temp and maybe the car heater being used? Have not seen such a "miss" is my MYLR, but I haven't used it with wide temp changes.

I recently took my model y long range from northern Missouri to Indiana and back.
On the way out it was 25 degrees Fahrenheit and it required an extra stop to charge.
On the way back it was in the mid-50s and I ended up charging one less stop for the return trip.
So once you get down below 35 Fahrenheit plan on an extra stop from what the cars nav may have initially calculated.
At least that is my limited experience so far as I've only owned my new car for 3 months.

This is typical and yes, it was due to a cold battery pack. You need to plan for this when staying over night between superchargers.

I'll also say that wind can play an even bigger role than cold temps. I was on I-40 heading back to Colorado after the holiday break - we fully charged in Van Buren, Arkansas (near Ft Smith) and needed to make it to OKC. Tesla Navigation _really_ wanted me to go an hour out of my way to Tulsa - only to fully charge in Tulsa. Why? High winds (30-40 mph headwinds). The gap was 195 miles without a Supercharger - we made it with only 2% to spare and we had to hypermile to even make that work (60 in a 75). One of the only times when I wasn't 100% certain I would make it - and that was on a 2021 Model Y LR - I'm not sure the trip would have been possible on a standard range model.
