- This year’s Ames Moot Court Competition teams sparred over Article III judicial power in the hypothetical case, Ames County Board of Commissioners v. Energon U.S.A.
This year's presiding judges were Sri Srinivasan of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit; Britt Grant of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit; and Rowan Wilson ’84 of the New York Court of Appeals.

The Ames Moot Court Competition is one of the most prestigious competitions for appellate brief writing and advocacy in the country. The students participating in the Final Round started the competition in fall of their 2L year. Two teams progressed to the Final Round through their strong research abilities and excellent written and oral advocacy.

What I can say is that, the submission by Ms Hoogan was phenomenal, the way she structured here argument and also citing relevant statute and case law simultaneously was worth the salt.
She was pure brilliance

The best oralist truly deserved that, i knew from the moment she started making her arguments that she was confident and correct in her deliveries and advocacy. Both teams did a great job.
This school is my dream school, and the arguments were so well put, and the candidates were beyond confident. It amazes me! Good luck for the future.

This video just cured my insomnia.I guess a putting together a bunch of words to form nonsensical sentences initially put me into a trance and I passed out not too long after. Thank you! Better than any medication and a more natural way to defeat insomnia.
I don’t know the other two but Sri Srinivasan should have been a lock for the Supreme Court.
Obama was picking between him and merrick Harland to replace Scalia. Srinivasan would have been a truly bipartisan pick as he clerked for conservative judges but served in a Democratic administration
@Darian so interesting to me. Can't believe US lets legislature choose judges and control judiciary to that extent.
@@valley-girl In Germany it's even worse. The parties are basically taking turns in nominating judges for the Federal Constitutional Court. But also would a unilateral appointment by the president be better? (look at Canada for example)
@@bensonfang1868 There was NO WAY the Republicans were going to pick ANY OBAMA nominated judge, even if he or she clerked for Scalia.

Seems the first oralist is also the winner for best oralist as always. The rest won’t get the prize. So if u on the second or third oralist and so on means highly unlikely u not the best one!

@@RVUI heyyy so we didnt reach the finals but i got the award for best memorial! Wohooo! Overall this competition gave me alot of confidence and the judges comments were that i sounded confident and my speech was well structured but i do need work in critical thinking which i agree so yeah jsut working on it currently! Conflict of laws case :the situs choice of law is usually (the aggregate of ) the totality of the contacts. Place of incorporation, physical location of the origin of the alleged harm, and site of the injury. Diversity of citizenship effects choice of forum , federal or state jurisdiction . Lots of old cases like Worldwide Volkswagen are similar , Interstate vs intrastate commerce . Thorny issues of standing ,jurisdiction, tort , and causality. As usual in moot court competitions one side had the better argument on standing jurisdiction , the other on substantive ( tort ) law. But, did the judges render an advisory opinion?

That the oil companies be required to designate a financial fund to start using modern technology in reducing the risk of emissions that affect the climate and health
Opinion The real problem is that, as the first speaker said, there is no evidence or way to measure harm. That is redundant
Because the damage is measured by the direct causal relationship by technicians with specialization from climate change scientists and statisticians, and when the case is transferred to them, the opinion of the court almost ends, and the opinion of the court remains formal, and the opinion and decision of the court are the decision of the technicians in the phenomenon of global warming
For artists, the damage is clear, and repeating the crime of climate pollution is an ongoing crime
