+Jeremy Gelderman Sorry I didn't show you how to twist a bulb in and out of a socket, ya baby. Want me to show you how zip up your fly after a piss, too?
2024 - this is GOLD for me. Thank you for making this. My 2006 S60 lost a low beam- it's easy on my 2003, when I went to do the 2006, opened the hood and just closed the hood and headed to youtube. Thanks again.
Helpful video, thanks! MY TIPS: 1. Low beams use H11 bulbs. (Volvo Owners Manual has H7, which is NOT correct.) 2. Use long life bulbs (e.g., Hella H11LL). Otherwise they will fail again much sooner because low beams are on all the time. 3. Small amount of lube on bulb tabs makes it easier to twist new bulbs into place. Make sure they lock. 4. Control unit shroud has only 2 retaining clips on sides, not 3. 5. When replacing shroud, make sure control units are in their slots! Checked on my 2008 S60 2.5T.
AWESOME & VERY HELPFUL!!! Yes, I'm yelling. We were going to be charged $100 to change the headlight. I told my daughter to find a youtube video. We, extremely inexperienced women, changed it in about 10 minutes!!! :-) Did not have to remove the cover/case from the item behind the headlight area, as he did. So happy!
Thanks, but this video shows the easiest part, which thanks to you, I've managed to accomplish. Taking out the bulb turned out to be so difficult that I've ended up at the mechanic struggling for 15 minutes to replace the bulb - my bulb mount was not a "twist a pop out" one, but a complex "hook a needle behind the plastic socket with wires" one. A mirror and a special tool was necessary. Good luck everyone!
Yeah, that's an earlier model car with glass headlights. These are the facelift models that have a twist out bulb. This video is for the car with plastic headlights.
There is also a clip in the front of that housing that needs to be pushed forward. maybe the box was not put on right last time he did this. It's very important that the box goes on completely right. If it doesn't moisture can get into those computers ( this is no bueno) which means, its no good !!!
Nice job!!!! Glad some other person thinks the Volvo ID-ten-T engineers could have put more stuff in the way to change the headlight.... However, I truly like my Volvo with a few minor exceptions...... working on it! Mega thanks!
Just what I needed. Thank you. And love your presenting style! I've a feeling I'm going to find a crumbling wiring connector after 15 years of lights on but hey, it's all fun...
Demo nicely done... Was able to change the hard-to-reach right turn indicator bulb... Where you ran out of tape at the end of the video, when placing the flimsy plastic cowling, ensure to line up the two modules' metal tabs within the plastic slots to stabilize them.. Then make sure the bottom of the cowling is seated until the three clips are in place. Don't need crap getting into the modules... very expensive if it does...
thank you thank you thank you, this helped very much (Volvo S60 2007). Also, i hate my car. Also, the radio died a couple months ago and i will never buy another Volvo again :]
I wouldn't blame the car there so much, unless you bought it brand spankin' new. The Radio is a fairly easy swap, too. You just have to get a proper unit to drop in. I do advise a stock radio, though. I believe mine is the HU-650, single CD, no amp.
From driver's side video to passenger side, you taught me another thing my presumption has ruined: I always assumed the ECU/TCU box was a sealed fortress, but no, it's a Happy Meal box with portapotty drop walls. Last three damned time I've done this job, it was with fingertips and LOTS of no-no bad words. *FINALLY* there's a better way (the way that always existed, apparently), so no more black and white infomercial futzing for my ass!
Thanks a lot. Very helpful and straightforward video. A lot more help than VIDA! But it would have been nice if you'd have shown us where that 3rd clip on the module housing is,
@@madimakes Thanks! I ended taking off the whole front part of the car just to get to the damn headlight. It's still going strong, but maybe about due soon and I know how to do it next time. EDIT: No I forgot, that was to do the lens covers in a super hard way. 7 years...
Please help. My wife has a 2007 S60. The driver side low beam will not stay in proper place. I can't seem to find anything online that shows the same device that her car has...the bulb/metal box doesn't twist into place, but instead there are these metal prong things sticking out. Some of them look bent, but I'm scared to bend them back straight or do anything to them until I can find out what they are supposed to look like. Do you have any idea what I'm talking about?
OfEternalDespair True, but didn't want to deal with all of that. Wouldn't look right without projectors anyways. The Philips Diamond visions work pretty well.
Helpful, i actually watched the other vid to chng my drivers side..have you gotten that low beam bulb failure message? Ive been getting it and both bulbs are fine but after researching this im hearing about the ballast? Any thoughts...
OfEternalDespair wow that was fast, thnks. ..08 s60 T2.5 awd..right now, no message now but when i left work at 5p i got the message and passngr light was out..let the car warm for 10m and light came on..btw i live in cold new england, right now its about 10 out
ltetobago Do your lights have spade connectors, or those quick disconnect clips? The quick disconnects melt, and lose connection. Happened to mine not long after this video. They are also pretty easy to replace.
I was already knee deep in my attempt to replace the left side bulb without removing the airbox when I came here to see what else I might try. I don't know how it helped but after watching this I went out and mashed my hand in the gap and found a way to get it done without any further disassembly. So although I can attest to being able to avoid removing the stuff that is in the way I have to admit that next time I replace a headlight bulb I will be better prepared to do the preliminary disassembly described here. Nowadays you simply have to be ready to do some disassembly to get at most everything.

Not really a good video, the third clip is at the front of the ECU housing and deep at the base, use a long screw driver to pry it towards you ( towards front ) to get it to release. Even with the housing removed I still could not get my hand into the headlight well to get at the bulb. Why make the vid when you just gloss over the two most difficult parts of the job????

The removal of the ecu housing is key. Thank you for that. But my bulb is different, it’s the xenon bulb and I can’t get it to twist.
