As an employee of a little shop, it’s very satisfying to see the thieves being caught. Today I caught three of them and I’m not even trained to do it but it’s so frustrating to be taken as stupid

Yeah, same here. I'm not too worried about the shop owner. He is very very rich but a nice guy all the same. What I hate is the fact that shoplifters often sink so low as to betray your trust. Often they have given me a friendly hello only for me to catch them stealing. It's disrespectful to the staff. So yes, I love catching them lol.

I caught one last job I had before retirement this past year, couldn't catch other two, though I tried. Last one, another customer heard me yelling and pictures of make and color of car, and license plate. But I'm thinking plate , was stolen. Police hadn't found him yet.

Police are even nicer in Middle Eastern Countries, A male Police officer will not physically touch a female. ONLY female officers are permitted to do that.
In the USA Male Police beat up women, and some have raped them in a Court house and stripped them naked. There is something seriously wrong with Policing in the USA.
It is the Police there that are out of control.
Mostly manipulated and brain-washed by Government propaganda, and they believe their own BS.

    • @OsamaBinLooney

well that's cus the woman thieves in America are more violent and have no problem scratching and kicking and fighting the male officers, you don't see that kinda of behavior from middle east women thieves
also the civil/equal rights movement is HUGE in America, way bigger than it is in those countries, you women want to be treated EQUALLY? then that means you get the same treatment and punishment as men,
that street goes BOTH ways, you can't just have all the same rights as men but still act as though you get to be treated like dainty creatures... Liberals always have a double standard

As a former LEO I Moonlighted at Dept Stores in the late 70s and early 80s and I find it sad that Shoplifting has gotten SO bad that today stores actually have a "Containment Cell" inside for shoplifters. Our society seems to think that just because it's not under lock and key that it's OK to take it and just walk off.. Disgusting.

No use for lazy people None. True Very True indeed because far too many people wanna just sit on thier asses all day.And the MAIN reason for people's Laziness is the Government making everything COMPUTERIZED/MACHINIZED.Which contributes to the fact of people becoming Lazy and useless. Not to mention giving them Shittier paygrades.AND Allowing the damn IMMIGRANTS to take our Jobs that belong to us.As far as for these so called leaders aren't leaders AT ALL They're really just OPPRESSORS.Like the rest of the Elitists are.

Our store used to give lifetime bans to shoplifters.
However it changed - not sure if by court ruling or by company PR - because if a murder can get free after 10 years, why would shoplifting be punished longer? It is dumb and not comparable, but that is it..

@jledward1 problem is, i used to be a bit of a toe rag, and i grew up, it took me a fair few yrs, and a prison term for theft, and now i havent stole or broke the law for a decade. people do change there ways now and then, In the UK your record gets wiped for theft and small crimes after 6-7 yrs, more for worse crimes. but when i was a toe rag, i knew the punishments were to easy, and i did look at it that way. I think you should have to do proper hard work labour, for punishment, not just picking up litter, but real hard labour, for a decent period of time.

Looking at the girl, caught shoplifting and calling her father, reminds me about my own daughter. When she was around 14 she was caught doing the same. We had to go to court for her and it really makes me sad for the parents. I feel sorry for her, because she did something stupid and hope she learned a lesson, but to me as a parent it is such a shame and feeling of helplessness if your own kid is stealing. My daughter at that time didn't need it. She had everything she needed at home, but it was never enough.

I MIGHT or MIGHT NOT have shoplifted before. In reply, if you ever wonder, it's because of the thrill of possibly getting caught. You also get something free. In other words, they do it because it's fun and excitement and because most of the time, you can get away with it. On the side note, I wonder how many BILLIONS or might I even say TRILLIONS of dollars politicians have stolen but a lot of them are still doing fine and maybe even looked up? When the top is corrupted, you rot all the bottom. That's why in the U.S., you vote for a pedo, now you got a ton of folks trying to groom kids. See how that works?

I worked a summer in a department store and finally saw a shopper with odd, big bags and looking around too much. I was all excited to call store security, who after a description said the “shopper” was part of the security staff. At least I was right that it wasn’t a regular shopper.

I am glad they let the teenager off with a warning and a phone call to Dad. Years ago I gave into peer pressure, from the "in girl group" and shoplifted from Myers. Got caught, they threatened to call the Police, I was in tears, then they said ok just the school, I would have been expelled, then came down to, well we will just ring your parents. I was inconsolable - that was the worst option as this was 42 years ago, and parents punished children severely in those days. In the end they let me go with a stern warning. I have never stolen again and forever grateful for the second chance.

I've worked retail security and we call that catch "On Suspicion". We don't have to prove anything was taken only the intent that someone was about to take. Then you'd both get a lifetime ban from the store.

I remember going shopping with a friend (we worked as nurses), something I REALLY don't like doing. So I was getting impatient and kept asking when the hell she would be finished. Her voice sounded funny but eventually she came out and brought a dress to the cashier. When we got in the car, she was LAUGHING! Turns out she was switching tags from a high price tag to a discount item. I fairly screamed at her because she KNEW that I would get taken in with her as complicit. I couldn't believe it. She made a good salary, she didn't NEED the dress, and she had put MY ass on the line with her! And this was FUNNY to her! At the end of it she apologized but I knew she was NOT sincere. I had been shoplifting for MANY years. The last time did it (2010) and was taken to the back room, I was left alone with my thoughts for a few minutes. This was a store I REALLY liked coming to [and actually BUYING things], so I was scared of being arrested &/or banned [Which they had EVERY right to do.] The LPO came back in & said they were going to let me go. If I chose to come back to the store, I would be watched very closely. I was near tears and thanked them for their generosity. That was the last time I ever did that. Thank You, Lord, for freeing me from that! Now, whenever I feel the itch to do that again, I watch shoplifting videos, & the itch disappears. ~ 9:53 What is a magistrate?

When I was 10yo I stole a pack of Big League Chew chewing gum and the grocery store manager hemmed me up. Being from a small town he just threw my bike in the back of his truck and asked me where do you live. I took that guy down every neighborhood road I knew before we got to my house just to prolong the inevitable. He knocked on the door and told my mom the deal and that was that. Needless to say I got my butt torn up for that little episode but I learned my lesson. Later on around age 15 our class got to watch the court room proceedings and I saw a judge give a girl 30 days in jail for shoplifting and that really reinforced the fact I wanted nothing to do with stealing.

Made in Australia: I don't know about today, but back in the 90s, you would buy 2 cinema tickets, enter the cinema, 1 person come back out with 2 stubs and bring in another friend in with it, and repeat until golden brown and crispy... It use to take about 1 full second to take off the colour tags off clothes from Myer and David Jones (if you knew how of course)... There weren't many or no cameras back in those days... Walk in the change rooms with 2 items of clothing, wear it under your walk in clothes and put one back on the shelf, jackets valued at thousands of dollars were cool items when you were 14-17 years old... Take a left shoe from the display of one sports store and a right shoe from another store, no problem, just make sure it's the right size but it was not uncommon for kids to have shoes with a 1 size difference (Air max or Air Jordans anyone?)... Then there were guys who did the '100 miles and runnin', name taken from the NWA song where you snatch and run, it would definitely help if you had a group of guys waiting down the road if you were chased... Even ice cream from shops with the freezers that had a slide glass on top (they still use them today), all you had to do was stick your arm in and slip it in your sleeve... The same with pens from newsagents, wear the appropriate jacket and you could slip pens totaling in the hundreds per visit (my pencil case was beautiful and probably valued more than all the stationary of every student at school combined - there were over 1000 students) coupled with Mad magazines that you will place under your zipped up jacket (because it was a flat item), held via the front of your jeans... Of course, this was back in the 90s and I do not condone this sort of behaviour, but once upon a time was a fun time for a 14-17 year old... Do not do stupid shit when you reach 18 people because it's not worth it, having said that, I stopped all this before I reached 18 and fortunately never got caught because I dressed well (at the cost of adrenaline!) and worked smart... You can comment what you want, like I said, I do not condone this behaviour and this was just a young kid who had an experience and I have been a law abiding citizen since I turned 18 back in 1995... At least i didn't deal drugs, now that is bad.

"were cool items when you were 14-17 years old", so at 18 you became "adult" overnight earning money by yourself. What a yarn spinner!

The whole thing is getting out of hand.
What stores will eventually do is, organize to have an entrance system into the store that requires an ID.
The ID card will be issued only to members of society that are in good standing with no criminal records, with heavy emphasis on shop lifting.
They'll be forced to do this, because businesses that serve the public, simply can not afford to stay in business if shoplifting is semi legalized.

A friend of mine walked right out of a sporting goods store with a canoe on his shoulders. The staff even held the doors open for him. He never got caught. Who the hell would steal a canoe, one would ask. LOL

US should adopt the arrest and fine procedure. the fine helps pay for the security.

No the fine goes to the victims of crime fund.
At least in South Australia it does anyway. The "security," be it good, bad or terrible is the responsibility of the shop/franchise/business owner.

These shoplifters are getting off too easy. Jail and prison time should be served also.
Edit: And they should be banned from the store they stole from for life.
