AFK Journey is a brand new gacha mobile game from the devs that brought you DYSLITE. It's an afk styled game where it can play itself and let you live your life or play other games like wild rift or fortnite or watch mr. beast videos. this is my kind of review where i ramble and tell u if it's worth playing. is afk journey worth it? before you play watch this. I quit the game and will likely not play anymore. I used over 78k to start fresh. will try out zenless zone zero next

hm well I find the game more satisfying as f2p since it tends to take more time to complete a character and it feels more rewarding when it happens. whereas when I start buying stuff it's easier to get what I want and that does get boring.

I didn't try AFK Journey because I hate how mandatory dupes were in AFK Arena and seemed like similar system. Boring to pull a bunch of characters just to merge them because you have to. Other games you can pull a 5-star and it's good as-is, but can just get better if you want to dump more currency into dupes. But you still have decent character with one copy

while thats true, they make it fairly easy to get that one character and then it gets added to the main roster permanently. As you alluded though, it definitely feels waay too important to get dupes as opposed to some variety

You said it was boring 20 times, but why was it boring? What were your expectations and how were they not met? "It's boring, uninteresting, not fun, boring, it's boring, it's boring, it's boring."
My personal opinion is that characters are only interesting if they introduce new mechanics that challenge the meta.
It seems like you wanted a better slot machine, with more colors and complexity.

u bring up a good point and thanks for the comment, thats what happens when i cook up a vid at 1 am lol. i thought it was boring because the gameplay itself became monotonous over the course of the two months and I had already tuned out of the story long before. while i love the designs and chars, and the core ideas behind the gameplay, when it starts to slow down and there's no hook in terms of story for me i just found myself drifting away not really wanting to continue. When i talk about the gacha element, it wasn't the reason i quit but rather the final straw that made me feel like I'd rather not spend the time going forward with the game. I had hit a point where pvp progress felt like it was entirely locked behind spending and playing daily was just a means to keep myself afloat at that level, with no impact even from getting the hottest, newest character to come into the game.
I'll keep this in mind for new vids, at least writing an outline lol

@@dermil that's not 'boring', that's just burn out. You spent too much time on it that it causes you to hate the game now. I quit Nikke, Honkai Star Rail, Genshin because of the same reason. All of them are great games but no matter how good a game is, if you spent too much time on it you will still get burn out.

i know the difference between burn out and being bored and the game had gotten boring but i dont hate it. if it were burn out i'd have some inkling of desire to come back but theres none. like i said in the comment, i didn't like the story and while the gameplay was fun at its core it clashes with the concept of a constant grind afk rpg, so theres no progress.
i get burnt out on street fighter but i always come back, so i know it's not burn out in this case. i think theres a deeper analysis to be done here with the difference between boredom and burn out though, so i appreciate the comment, thank u

@@dermil I actually completely agree with you. I played it religiously even past Salsa. I also spent a butt load of money into that game too. I followed the meta like it were my stocks, and made sure to optimize my progression as much as possible. Every goal I could set to make the game fun for me had been met, and I realized that I didn't want to become a money slave to this game. The ranked system is a disgusting feedback loop; Getting high ranks gives you better and more abundant rewards -> Getting low ranks gives you little rewards. So you spend money to stay ahead of people. By the first month of the game you already had hundreds of players who had dumped thousands of dollars to dominate an AFK GAME'S RANKED LADDER......
The same bosses every week, and introducing a season into the game that lets you regrind the afk stages for more loot. Temporarily. Yup, turns out, everything you grinded for was going to disappear after the season. And then they continued to add stupid stones you grind through out the season, which would also disappear after the season. Btw? All these things I mentioned affected ranked ladder. So you needed all this loot for the best possible stats and buffs, and everyone who didn't slave away suffered. The game is so boring. I did the surveys since they give you a thousand diamonds, and the questions were all about how interesting and acceptable it was for the "Loot" you grinded for to disappear after a season ends.
Do NOT listen to these people, the game is boring and is SUFFERING from that problem. The survey was a 10 minute long survey condemning themselves for being LAME.

I have since quit after getting Salsa's brother to max. That blue currency you mentioned that was INCREDIBLY RARE AND EXPENSIVE? Yeah, I had used enough (with a little bit of spending) to get the most busted guy and the required amount of copies (Reinier). Then they released a completely new dude who didn't exist in the game before, and everyone in ranked had already maxed him out! I had spent two months pulling slowly on that banner to get Reinier, and you have hundreds upon hundreds of people with the max dude.
This game is a dumpster fire.
