A few extra things... 1. I forgot to mention Dr Ratio has a close resemblance to Welt Joyce (expy?) further establishing a connection to Reason 2. What we know of syzygies at the moment is extremely vague and hypothetical especially in the context of HSR, so just because Mythus seems to target Nous doesn't mean that another Aeon can't also (see: Tayzzyronth, Oroboros, etc). Plus, sometimes irl Aeons form groups. It is also possible that the new path assimilates the similar old path, with Veritas forming an Aeon similar to the Herrscher of Truth that believes more in the perseverance of human nature rather than strictly Reason and logic. 3. "But Aiden solved physics!" Stephen Lloyd cannot hear you inside his sound barrier. 4. In the latest update, Dr Ratio assigns Trailblazer reading material that would take a conservative estimate of an Amber Era to read. This is 75-250 yrs. He also dated the document to Amber Eras instead of... An actual date.
question more complex concept like harmony more complex than world, means aeons born from complex more complex than normal concepts wouldn't become a aeon because the more complex concept includes that other concept
16:30 I have a hypothesis: Each Path represents a particular conviction, a core thought that upholds the rest of the concepts that make it up. possible proof as examples: Destruction - "the Universe is a mistake, everything (it) must be destroyed"; Preservation - "All life and good in the world must be preserved and protected as far as possible"; Equilibrium - "everything must always be in equilibrium"; Nihility - "everything is pointless and it makes no sense"; Finality - "everything will eventually end, so treasure it the way it is now"; and etc. furthermore, I think that the Erudition's most base conviction is "Knowledge is for all and otherwise only the Dragon that houses the treasures for itself thinks", entailing that the Erudition seeks the knowledge of everything and its spread, inspiring teaching and proliferation of knowledge. Ratio's most controversial thesis, the very thing he stands for, is the exact opposite statement: "Knowledge is not for everyone". I think that maybe, from the beginning on, Ratio never even walked the Path of Erudition, thinking that intellectual brilliance and reason are its only requirements, while having walked an entirely different Path all this time? as a last point, according to the Data bank, the notion of an Aeon "gazing upon you" is actually just a metaphorical description of the feeling a pathstrider has when they walk the path of an Aeon. it's sort of the feeling you get from the Path's conviction. the fact that Ratio never received the gaze of any Aeon, especially not Nous, makes me think that maybe, he has been treading a completely masterless path all this time and may ascend to become its aeon one day.
17:16 Do you have in-game/hoyolab references for these accomplishments? I want to read them, but I can only find the curing lithogenesis and the energy crisis ones. I can't find the rest 😭 Edit: Nevermind! I found them in his CN keeping up with star rail video!
Im guessing its because he still has his humanity; he still cares about how other ppl can benefit from his intelligence. All of the known genius society members seem to be a bit… sociopathic? Heartless, even
@@-jason1912the only exception to that seems to be Screwllum, who almost seems to have been picked mostly to stop the inorganic-organic war and is by all means still up on an ivory tower, so yeah.
@@lennyfacebutnotreally3198 while he does seem to be more courteous than ruan mei or herta, i think he still has some "heartless" qualities, not that i know of them. He rules an entire planet named after him, and can command it to wage war or atleast make enemies against other places (source: that one penacony clockie quest abt a former genius society member. Unfortunately i forgot abt the name of the quest, sorry)
@@-jason1912 calling genius society members sociopathic is an understatement considering one of it's members, rubert, literally started a galactic war by forming his empire
Ratio also somewhat behaves like he's indifferent to paths. He's a doctor (abundance) and scholar (erudition) who sometimes uses underhanded and chaotic tactics (elation) to assist people in teaching collective enlightenment and function in greater [harmony] with their own selves and others. He has a tendency to study in isolation and in-game he operates within the [hunt], all while striving to prove to himself or others that humanity is shackled by ignorance (demonstrating a somewhat nihilistic view of the masses) and will [destroy] itself in time of not attended to. I'm stretching this, the paths aren't that rigid to begin with, but you can see how in a lot of ways, Ratio could easily embody any of the aspects, similar to how Aventurine could easily also embody Nihility and/or Elation were he even the slightest bit different as a person or had his life taken a slightly different route.
Thats what inspires screwllum to make DU. Instead of focusing on one path, you get blessings of many different paths to activate "equation" instead, the many-facet instead of the singular
I think it was mentioned that people can change the paths that they follow or even follow multiple paths. Only Aeons are bound to the paths they embody. While Aventurine is affiliated with IPC and Ten stonehearts, besides his own choices and possible contracts he has no obligation to follow the path of Preservation. For all he cares he could switch to follow the path of the hunt. Similarly in recent leaks it has been half confirmed, that while Sunday uses the abilities of Harmony, he idiologically still follows the path of Order.
I feel like there's a parallel between the mythical Prometheus bringing "fire" (as in, Light) to humanity in defiance of the gods and Dr. Ratio using a Fire Elemental Duke Inferno-thingy to embarrass the Genius Society and show their admirers that the Geniuses aren't the heroes they think they are - he "enlightened" the Space Station staff about the fallibility of the Genius Society - by bringing them fire.
I think anybody who says Ratio embarrassed the Genius Society have way too high an opinion of Ratio to actually speak on the topic. He's only "interacted" with Herta and Screwllum, the former who didn't pay attention to what he did on the station at all, and the latter who knew what he was doing the entire time. All he did was try an "enlighten" the space station, which didn't even work that well.
@@darknessknows1235 Prometheus who brings fire for humanity according to greece mythology acknowledged that it was a mistake. Although he couldn't bring cleverness to herta station in an impactful way, I do believe he can become an AEON of teaching or emanator of abundance( screwllum says that its not a mistake for him to be called a doctor, he is trying to cure "stupidity"). There might be event in a future where he can cure stupidity in such an impactful value that 2 versions of his ascensions I wrote down before become true
4:58 this is really interesting, because in the German version of the game, Dr. Ratio is called Dr. Wahrheit, which, literally translated also means Dr. Truth.
He's such an interesting character, he has incredible academic achievements and yet remains empathetic and respectful towards other people. I really believe he would've risked his life to save us from the emanator of propogation despite never having met us before should we have needed it.
I, too, wholeheartedly believe he would have done something to save us, and then chastised us for causing such unnecessary trouble and then softening the blow by saying at least we tried our best even if we were idiots for not being prepared.
cannot stop thinking about how funny it would be specifically for him to ascend as an aeon just after all the trailers hinted at ruan mei's ambition to become one. ultimate red herring moment.
3.0 is supposed to take us to a Greccoroman themed planet with philosophers and scholars. We probably learn more about Ratio and Herta's true form then.
The counter to Nous is Enigmata. Enigmata believes that since Nous knows everything, theres no free will of choice so it ascended to counteract what Nous knows by adding fake information.
Noh Nous already has a partner lols, thats Mythus... Mythus is the Unkown, Nous is the Known, Relativism and Determinism, Quantum Physics vs Natural Physics, Uncertainty and Certainty, Imagination vs Rationality, Art vs Sciences. Its pretty much the only few Aeon pairs that are actually canon minus Lan and Yaoshi as well as Akivili and Terminus. We don't know any other Aeon pairs put together. HooH doesn't need a new Aeon to counter Nous they already have one.
OMG HI lmaaooo noted noted!! I contemplated the worm thing in great detail, even wondering if the doctor's note he gave to Aventurine could be a hint at that... and then I learned the swirl was supposed to be a fern, so it's a reference to the Noah's Ark dove, I think. Mmm it's a very fun theory!
pre video; my assumption is that all the Geniuses we know are going to Ascend and replace/absorb existing Aeons. stuff like Herta's station being a repository of memories (Remembrance), Stephen constantly catfishing (Elation/Enigmata), RM reviving eldritch horrors etc. I think that to bring it back to topic, Ratio might replace HooH, between his name being "balance", or his guidance/midwifery. then the meta point of him being in every account, to tip the scales.
I also think that the Geniuses will end up becoming Aeons; simply because it is a way of relieving the debt that the imaginary tree symbolizes. This is due to the imaginary tree being the complex exponential consisting of the number e raised to the square root of negative 1 and times an independent variable. This square root of negative 1 refers to the amount of credit as paying in credit is exactly the same as negative money. Thus, the more Aeons are produced, the more debt is paid and the imaginary tree can finally wither away. Aeonhood is in my opinion a trap that the developers have hyped most likely to serve as a conceptual illusion. This is because of their primum mobile, loss of identity, and restricted characteristics that reduce all the people’s autonomy when they ascend into aeonhood. Dr. Ratio has expressed interest into philosophy yet has he realized that these aeons that everyone worships and praises have no autonomy or freedom at all and are bound by their primum mobiles. This is a critical point in philosophy and this expresses concern that aeonhood represents a counterproductive view of philosophy representing the opposite of what it tries to achieve.
@@awesome7006Wait can you explain how aeons take "debt" off or "kill" the imaginairy tree? Also related to this thread, but theres some theories that Diamond and the 10 Stonehearts are trying to replace the aeons too. I wonder if the IPC and Genius society and possiblt other factions will all compete to become the next generation of aeons
Nope, HooH is responsible for the ascension of most Aeons, if HooH doesn't think your necessary to keep the balance they won't give a fuck even if you almost ascend to Aeonhood, like we saw Sunday almost ascend but since HooH didn't need a new Aeon to the frey to keep the balance, Sunday didn't. Why would HooH make an Aeon that will replace them ascend?
the last thing ratio want to happen is him become aeon People should realize, ratio proud about being human more than being a high level creature He always said about regular human is stupid But he obsessed with making human reach their peak potential in both personal and group He believe about human more than about aeon or any higher being So he have no reason to want to become aeon
@@ludwigvanbeethoven5176 nope Tazzyroth : the last being of his race, become aeon as an instict action to save himself and his race Ouroboros : member of an extincted race , be come aeon due to instict t survival Nanook: witness some tragedy of destruction, become aeon probably due to the though ( i need power to fix this mistake of the universe ) Lan : curse you yaoshi, i need power to kill you => become aeon Aha : witness the nature of universe => become aeon Nous : hard fo say, maybe is some kind of logic make it concluse become aeon is needed Ena : witness the most chaotic era of universe so desperate seek order => become aeon And more Most of them want more power to do something , they may or may not realize what they need to become to have more power but they intention to become a higher being to solve their problem or escape the sittuation they face They not become aeon due to somekind of balance
I think that while Dr. Ratio has immense pride in being human, I also think that because he is human, and because he has so much love and pride in humanity itself, if the only potential cure to the disease that is "stupidity" relied on him becoming an aeon, he wouldn't hesitate to do so. Basically his want to help human kind and also his ability to potentially do so will be his achilles heel. Plus humans are hypocritical by nature, and most people won't hesitate to throw away pride in order to have the thing we have always dreamed of.
what i like about the elation theory its that it doesn't take anything away from the other theories since it's mainly about his origins. And doesn't make him a follower of elation but still a genius disregarded by nous. Maybe he has to do with helping others reaching "aeonhood", supposedly ruan mei with how he came for her specifically and her goal to do so?
He already is, he just doesn’t now yet and is unlocking parts of his power by imitating different animals. Once he has imitated 7 animals, his true power will reveal.
he is an emanator of perseverance, given how often he is humiliated in public for his incompetence, only a truly persevering person can continue carrying on....
This comment is pre-watching the video 😅 I used to have this wild theory I told my friends about a new path in Honkai Star Rail which would be Solipsism where characters who follow this path would quite literally break the 4th wall, believing that they are living in a simulation where only their minds truly exist. My "convincing fact" thingy I told my friend is that this Solipsism concept is hinted at with Dr. Ratio's Ultimate voiceline "Esse est percipi..." To be is to be perceived. Edit : oof I just watched the vid
Also, sidenote: there is a subtle difference between Dr Ratio and 真理医生。 While the English name gives one an impression that the person holds a doctoral degree, 医生 in Chinese more refers to a physician, someone of a medical profession. Which is why it was kind of understandable for me why Ratio was so much fed up with the Genius Society. He wanted the brilliant one to cure people with knowledge, not just pursuit knowledge for the sake of knowledge. From here, we may go even further. The Genius Society resemble the gnostics in sense that they pursuit the hidden knowledge of the Universe, just to get closer to Aeon Nous. Meanwhile, Ratio’s appearance and logic looks and sounds more… Judeo-Christian? He is holding a giant book like it were the Bible or the Ten Commandments. I heard people comparing Ratio to Moses, the one that leads the people like a prophet. Unlike the Genius Society, Ratio does not believe in being the chosen one. Instead, he wants to cure everyone. This kinds of resemble an early debate between the Gnostics/Gnostic Christians and Paulinian Christians.
Whenever I think of imaginary numbers, I suddenly think of complex numbers and then think about physics. Dr. Ratio’s name is an analog about the ratio functions such as sin(x), cos(x), e^(x), ln(x), and tan(x). In particular, sin(x) represents the function that produces the dependent variable or the y variable from the angle, x. I have hypothesized that the stem of the imaginary tree is a complex exponential function with its branches being complex logarithm functions such as ln(-1) that consist of infinitely many solutions. These infinitely many solutions of ln(-1) such as 1pi, 3pi, 5pi, and more contribute to various branch cuts or branch points that lead to various “universes” within the hoyoverse. The tree’s purpose like all other trees is to exponentially grow, survive, and produce fruit and this fruit are the Aeons. Stellarons are relatably the seeds of the imaginary tree filled with stored imaginary energy with the intention of maximizing the ascension process as civilization was intended to be the solution to the complex logarithm. It is important to think of this logarithm as an algorithm that regulates and control the media hence the Honkai signs of exponential decay to coincide with logarithmic growth. Why I also think that Dr. Ratio will become an Aeon other than his name is due to this surprising connections with Aha and the elation. This is due to his propensity of wearing a mask, is ironic and comedic, and is a prime method of satire. Satire one would argue is very similar to the masked fool’s method of having fun and spreading joy. Dr. Ratio I believe when he becomes an Aeon will consume Aha as his concept of satire is more open ended then Aha’s concept of pure joy.
Me at the start of the video: "lol Ratio as an aeon could be kinda funny, he could beat up Nous as revenge, let's see what this is about" Me at the end of the video: "Dr. Veritas Ratio is the true protagonist of Star Rail, the world is his and we are simply living in it."
I hope you are still reading the comments bc I really wanted to say that your channel is such a gold mine for lore on this game. As a layman who doesn't generally dive into the lore, penacony felt really overwhelming with the amount of references, world building, and general obscure name drops and tie ins. Well it appeared that way to me. I kind of checked out and just played to catch up to the newer content but going back and watching videos like this (*while still a little overwhelming*) is really interesting and exciting again! I like how your videos are structured and it's really interesting to see how many real world concepts and history make it into the game or inspire it. Your channel reminds me a lot of Byf who is a loremaster who covers Destiny 2. I hope you keep posting and I'm excited to keep watching as the games story continues to unfold!
my theory is he was the former Aeon for Erudition until Nous yeeted him off his throne as the smartest b*tch in the universe or maybe he willingly stepped down coz his ideology is to spread knowledge rather than keep it OOOOORRR I have seen posts before saying that Ruan Mei leaks suggest that she did achieve her goal of becoming an Aeon. Ratio might be the one to arise as her counter Aeon just like how he helped the trailblazer during that emanator shiz incident
If the first one is the case wouldn’t there have been lore on the previous Aeon of Erudition? I just feel we know too little about it. But for the second one I definitely can see as if one Aeon arises another it could disrupt the balance and equilibrium.
We all know Ruan Mei is gonna help the Xianzhou kill the abundance then like tazzyroth and yaoshi will take a small part of the path of permanence and ascend into the new Life Aeon
I believe it was stated that when aeons ascend to aeon-hood they create their own path, so even if nous ascended to aeon-hood they would have created erudition and Dr. Ratio would have been an aeon of his own path, and I doubt that an aeon can go back to their original form after ascending, so this is more of a genshin point of view with the archons in that game having their divine thrones
Ugh as a longtime Ratio fan I adore this video sm (hell I made a whole TikTok account dedicated to him 😭, I’ll probably make my own video on this later bc omg u fucking cooked gj) and you still gave me so so much to think about, and I have some thoughts of my own 1. While I can definitely see why you think he could become an Aeon, I think Ratio himself would reject the idea of that. At his core, he is extremely, painfully human so I think if he is to become an aeon it would 100% be against his will, or he’d have to be very much convinced of it. 2. The Mundane and Divine thing has some very interesting implications for Screwllum and Amphoreus, as there’s a Cosmoddesy occurance which is a whole can of worms itself, I really recommend you read it if you haven’t already, but basically it has Sparkle pretending to be the “Divine Mecha” from Amphoreus (which I will get to) that’s a play right and member of the Genius Society, and she sends out her fellow fool Lady Greenham to teach the Trailblazer how to act/perform, with her demonstrating mannerisms very similar to Ratio (follow up voicelines, wearing a bust like him). Basically, me and my Screwllum loving friend both believe this “Divine Mecha” to either be Rubert or related to him in some manner, and that Screwllum is the Divine to Ratio’s Mundane, and a major plot point on Amphoreus is going to be dealing with that. 3. I complain constantly about the absolute black hole that is Ratio’s lore, but I don’t actually think he’s secretly immortal or something. This is because the Mechanical City still exists (one of the daily assignments you can go to it), so even if the events of the occurrence have a lot to do with the whole emperors war stuff, it doesn’t necessarily mean it has to take place thousands of years ago. Moreover, the game makes a point to demonstrate that Ratio earned all his achievements fairly young, and as for the yellowed letter I think that was more for drama + imagery and less to imply that literal centuries had passed- either way if they did that would mean Rond and several other people on Veritas Prime were also significantly older than they appear to be, which makes it less remarkable. Me and my Screwllum loving friend have basically convinced ourselves they are going to have a plot together on Amphoreus + Screwllum or maybe Ratio might become Rubert 3, but we shall see 4. Thanks for clarifying his name thing. EN translation absolutely kicked me in the ass with this one, however it’s still funny to think that his parents didn’t even bother giving him a first name (if they even exist) 5) oh my fucking god thank you for mentioning his connections w the Nihility. I have a whole ass tumblr post that’s unnecessarily long talking about the parallels between Ratio and Acheron’s philosophy and how he’s unknowingly walking the path of Nihility because fuck you Hoyoverse why did you make them say the exact same thing and never elaborate on it 6) Honestly I just want to thank you in general. You are one of the few people besides myself who understands that a) Ratio is absolutely smart enough to get into the Genius Society (even I didn’t realize the depths of his achievements, guess I should have watched his KUWSR) b) he probably doesn’t want Nous’s acknowledgement or to get into the Genius Society. I don’t think he believes in the Erudition at all, considering how he criticizes them + Genius’s in 1.6 with Screwllum. c) thanks for reaffirming his Greek origins bc there are mfs on TikTok convinced he only has Roman ones d) Thanks for pointing out his character stories are written from an in universe perspective, literally nobody points this out. 6) I just want you to know that the owl shit on him is crazy, like actually bonkers. Like it’s everywhere in his design to the point where I think it’s more than a reference to Athena. Considering the existence of Glaux, maybe he’s secretly an immortal owl species or something if we are going with that? Idk by the tenth owl shaped thing on his design I’m just ready to say pack it up bird boy, no wonder you love our resident peacock so much. Overall I adore this video so much, if only I could understand hsr lore as well as you (I read the sim uni occurrences and my brain melts out of my ears) Either way I’m so excited for future patches and I really hope you read that Cosmoddesy Occurancr and go as insane about it as I am because what are you cooking hoyo what are you cooking
Really enjoy this theory, i would just like to point out that another thing that points to reality being a simulation is that Quinque can also "hack" reality via her willpower, in her ult animation, she essentially rewrites her mahjong tile to be the one she wants with pure willpower.
Nice job as always, Lalody! I am surprised you did not seem to mention Socrates or Platos in the video because Ratio's personality and behavior are the literal embodiment of Socrates's dialethic method. Also, Ratio has the same goal as Platos believed Socrates had: 'to enlighten the mind of fools through the search of knowledge'. The same way too curious and sometimes even ruthless personality, the same suspicious or aversion from common people, the twisted reputation amidst his peers.... Also, Ratio fits well with Socrate's Mith of The Cave, which was used by Socrates and Platos in the study of essentially 'What is Knowledge', just like Ratio's book name. Honestly, there are so many paralels that I could go a whole day talking about it, and I remember one of Ratio's voice liens had a literal Plato or Socrate's line, so it is likely intentional. Give it a look later if you want, I think it may add even more evidences or insights into your theory. By the way, loved the 'crack' theory! Trying to think like Aha, what would be more 'fun' than having a genius that can never be a genius and that is strictly connected to logic but was created by the embodiment of chaos and lack of logic? I dont doubt THEY would do something like this.
Ratio counter Nous is interesting, sounds like Mythus. My overthinking theory would be: Nous acknowledge him but doesn't glance at him. Because Genius Society value knowledge above anything. And Ratio didn't fit in that. From what i get from what happened, the relation of Nous with mortals are like human with google, Nous providing informations to mortals. While Mythus teaching mortals how to think, but Mythus methods are chaotic. I think Ratio is in Erudition and Enigmata equation path, he is willing to provide information but in riddles and quizzes, just like a teacher basicaly. He want mortals to become smarter.
havent watched the video yet but ive been going CRAZY about this theory (and other ratio theories), since doing research on gnostic aeons in general and learning irl Nous is paired with the Aeon for truth (veritas)
Ever since I started playing I hypothesized about the entire game being a simulation as part of the storyline, especially with how many times it’s referenced in passing by characters or events in simulated universes.
this was SO interesting i swear it reignited the spark in my mind that absolutely loves philosophy and wants to be stimulated and research everything and combining all of that with my love for this game and this man- currently mind blown
on god this is the first time some one mentioned DR Ratio's outfit is greco-roman instead of it being purely greek. At first glance yeah it does look greek but as more and more is pointed and traced back, Dr ratio character wise does seem to have a lot of both roman and greek motifs correlated to himself. from the owl being the different type of owl (one that minerva uses, not athena) to the word itself being roman, to the clothes that could vary the meaning as to wherenever or not they are greek or roman inspired (they could vary in class structure is what i mean). Even the goddess mnerva herself is more inclined with dr ratio's motifs since Athena is more of a war wisdom type of godesss while Minerva is a godess of all kinds of wisdom, from the arts to the philosophy and medcine and, suprisingly enough (or nah?) she is a godess of education. I might also be reaching here bit the motif of purple in his toga might also hint to his connections to godhood/eonhood in a sense. In the roman period there is the Toga praetexta: a white toga with a broad purple stripe on its border, worn over a tunic with two broad, vertical purple stripes. It was formal costume for Curule magistrates in their official functions, and traditionally, the Kings of Rome. the part of king is what is most important for me as in rome the king and emperor were seen as legitimate gods to be worshipped and should be, (its why christianity and judaism got such a bad beef with the romans. AND THAT is also interesting as well to point out. In the late roman period there was also the bizantine empire, or eastern roman empire, that had a lot of both greek and roman influences, plus orthodox chritianity into the mix. I bring it up because of the purple motif too, as this time it was only seen as a color of nobility but a rare color nonetheless. In this sense, the motif of purple on dr ratio symbolizes not only thecorrelation of godhood but also the exclusion of it, from the romans being seen as a god (maybe dr ratio trying to find the gaze of nous at first, or simply just learning everything for a long time without wanting to impart his knowledge upon anyone) to the purple worn by kings (stepping down from trying to reach nous, or no longer wishing to see the end of what lies ahead of his knowledge, either one really, and instead deciding to teach and guide others, thus becoming the teacher we know) and if we apply the idea of what purple is now, then its a color that almost everyone uses (just as how dr ratio wants everyone to be smarter, elevate the floor instead of the roof if you will). God im sorry for ranting about purple.
that's so curious, i've always assumed that the reason nous never glanced his way was because, contrary to all members of genius society, he isn't obsessed by a field of research, a question he wants an answer to at all costs. instead, focusing on knowledge for the sake of curing ignorance, he is far too altruistic and more of a teacher that a scientist, and that's why nous has no interest in him just my interpretation tho! i just like to think him too human to be a genius :')
I had assumed that Mythos was the opposite of Nous as well because while Nous strived to calculate and know everything, Mythos strives for mystery and for things to be unknown. However, if you think about it, Mythos appears to be the opposite of Remembrance as well. The Remembrance tries to entomb the past so that it can be used for the reconstruction of the universe after its destruction, while Mythos tries to change written history to create more mystery in the future. I still feel Nous and Mythos make better pairs, but it is possible that Remembrance is also paired with Mythos, which shows a great lack of equilibrium.
Ya know my boy Ratio is my favorite character so...I Love to see such a viedo like this talking about him and him becoming an aeon he's so underestimated as an character
great video, I thought i liked that guy but had no idea about most his references like the bathtub/well and golden ratio's in his design, thank you for sharing
15:35 i definitely agree with the fact that aeons come in pairs of opposites, but we already have a counter to Nous the Erudition in Mythus the Enigmata
i think part of dr. ratio being connected to aha is ratio’s audacity. he clearly has seemed to look into things that nobody else would have, and brought answers that changed the course of science. idk. it just feels *right* to me.
I can’t say I’m persuaded, but this is really funny and also logical and evidenced. Aha needs to sit up to watch this. (And I’m not persuaded by the Ratio as Aeon theory exactly because I agree the intention of HSR writers is to make him an atheist and a parallel to Nous(given all the reference to mythology and philosophy), and to reach that end, Ratio as a real mortal is the more direct and also complete philosophical confrontation to Aeon and their ideology. But this is still a very interesting and fascinating theory!! Thank you for your work! The explanation about myths and tarot culture helps a lot XD
Cronus is the leader of Titans, the child of Gaea and Ouranos, and the deity of harvest. Not to be confused with Chronos, the personification of time and(iirc) as old(if not older) as Chaos.
I find Ratio SO fascinating and keep considering the close connections between the Elation and the Nihility! I think it's deliberate that his "Doctor's Advice" for Aventurine sort of makes him resemble a Doctor of Chaos, trying to help reject the Nihility (even if he isn't one.) Also very interesting that his in game path is the Hunt, given it's pathstriders' ties to the Nihility too 🤔
Found this on my recommendations... Dr. Ratio is my favorite character because he was the one who cured my 50/50 curse (kept losing my 50/50 when i pulled for characters i wanted, pulled for him and now he's E1 lol). Now, i just like him even more 😅. I'm about to binge watch all your honkai star rail videos!
After video comment: Good job brooo. Wish you had gone more into theoretical physics because I feel like that's the second most important connection between Prom and Ratio, but overall good job. Maybe I'll take on the theoretical physics part in the future. :)
i'm gonna have to rewatch this video again some time cuz 1. i was doing GnG while watching (wild coincidence) 2. it's about ratio and anything pertaining to him is almost always gonna involve concepts too complicated for me to digest in one sitting (physics…) and 3. this theory hits different cuz i already love the idea of eldritch horror ratio so aeon ratio would be Right up my alley… veritas ratio the man you are
"If you are feeling brave, you can leave a comment guessing just how crazy this video is going to get" If you give me permission, I'll gladly do so! Okay, so right off the bat; I've seen the simulated universe lore series, so I have more or less of a grasp on how crazy Ratio lore is, so a full theory stemming from that is going to be insane. Also, "I will discuss the highly requested Worm Ratio theory" Those... Sure are words, that you've strung together to form a sentence! But jokes aside, I am SCARED of what even is the evidence that so much as SUGGESTS that Ratio is the worm blessed by Aha to see if it can join the genius society. I will leave a response in this comment (or make another comment, idk), once I finish the video, with my opinions on the theory! But as always, thanks for cooking with these!
Okay, so video done, I clearly didn't think enough when you said to "leave your thoughts in the comments before watching", but also I am a bit empty-headed when it comes to making theories so it's a good thing I didn't try. One thing that is INSANE to me in general about HSR (and probably all Hoyo games) is the amount of details that characters have, like, yes, they have very detailed models but the meaning BEHIND those details is even crazier, so right off the bat, Ratio's motifs already broke my mind. Then there's the rest of the theory, and honestly, a bit of a disappointed take from my part but; yeah, I agree, and it seems to be the most logical thing, of course Ratio hasn't joined the genius society, he probably doesn't even care, but why would Nous even bother to send an invitation when Ratio is destined to be their equal, if not their "nemesis"? (Also, I imagine since Ratio will become an Aeon, it will be less him being against Nous and more him replacing Nous, but that's mere details)
AND ONE MORE THING: Insane that "Yeah, he can probably defeat the Nihility, anyways, moving on" like, Acheron would like to have a word with him, please jsjjsjsjsjsjsjs
@@LalodysLore Acheron: I weep for the departed. Ratio: Black Sun Energy Generator engaged, thanks for offering yourself as a test subject miss Acheron, adecuate payment shall be transfered after we are done here. Acheron: Huh? *Goes back to normal* Oh. Also, the fact that Ratio actually trains, compared to Acheron who probably forgot how to train and mostly uses her Self-Annihilator powers rather than physical strength (Well, maybe she does still train, idk)
God i hope to all that is mighty to let Ratio become an aeon, cuz he truly deserves it after all he has learned, taught, experience. While that would mean he might not be "human" by the end of it, (especially since my poor heart with angst) he is still one worthy of it.
Can I just say in the first couple of minutes you solved a mystery for me that I had been turning over in my head for a while. So long story short: my native language is English and I am learning German. I wanted to try to play HSR in German to practice reading German, because unfortunately 9 times out of 10 I end up on the English parts of the internet (like right now shhh don't @ me). Very quickly I realised all the names were the same... except for Dr Ratio, who inexplicably became Dr Wahrheit (literally Dr Truth directly translated). I was wondering why they kept all the other names either exactly the same or very close (like Aventurine becomes Aventurin) and then Dr Ratio became Dr Truth somehow??? Clearly I am showing all I have only started dipping my toes into HSR lore lol, but thank you for finally solving a mystery that had befuddled me for quite some months.
I love ratio so much he is just everywhere in the narrative... I really wanna see a video by you about all the Aeons and Gnosticism owo also love crack theories they always the best!
ohmygod this is so good bc I love Ratio so much and everything about him is so mysterious it makes me absolutely crazy how so much about him is revealed only by other people and it's all so flawed... like trickled down rumors. I don't have the Energy nor brain power to be able to pull these things together so I appreciate people like you who deepdive on lore like this !!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH
After watching the video, I clicked on another video to watch and got hit with a Dr. Ratio ad, what a coincidence. While watching his trailer I noticed a lot of lines that could be connected to the Veritas the Truth theory, such as; "Knowledge is as vast as the universe itself" this is interesting because of the Truth in Abyss, Dr. Ratio "conqured" knowledge which, in this quote, is claimed to be as vast as the universe or, by association, as vast as an abyss; "You learn to know yourself before your enemy" this is a quote from Dr. Ratio and relates to the "Your mind is all you can truly know", you have to know that you think before you can turn your attention outwards toward possible enemies; "Copying others rarely leads to improved results" another Dr. Ratio quote that can be seen as a reference to Dolus trying to duplicate Veritas and failing
Professor Lalody has fed us well yet again!! :D Big thanks to my favourite hsr theorist for covering one of my favourite hsr characters in such depth and complexity.
15:37 not sure if you've seen it yet but ashikai also has a video on aeons being in pairs ! i thought of mentioning it here in case u needed any resources for research :)) it's a pretty rad video
Ashikai just based it on typical Gnostic aeon structure which is something that's been understood more or less since the game's release. I've considered making a video on the same topic since I have a lot of contradicting opinions on the syzygies to her and any other lists I've seen.
Traveler siblings could be Aeons, Herta will become an Aeon, Ruan Mei will become an Aeon, Dr. Ratio will become an Aeon, Trailblazer will become an Aeon. Everyone will be an Aeon.
Now I agree that Ratio’s paldron doesn’t really look like the Fool’s masks but there IS an owl in the Aha’s artwork. Potentially a nod to their connection?
I really have two main questions: 1. Why would Ratio go against Nous and therefore the Genius Society? Nous isn't the same Nous from the Gnosticism scripture; this is the Aeon that seeks answers. That learns. It's the embodiment of knowledge and the embodiment of searching FOR knowledge. Ratio doesn't seem like the type of guy to go against it, nor has he expressed the desire to do so. He isn't a follower of the Enigmata. 2. What belief does he represent? Since at this point in time, it sounds like he's going to get assimilated by Nous. Also "Ratio figured out how everything works and solved physics." line here is quite the exaggeration (since it is one...hopefully), because, ironically enough, Genius Society member Aiden actually solved it. The formulae Aiden created reshaped and still shapes scientific laws to the present day.
Ration believe about human Not genius human but all of the human in general He believe human can achieve more if they can achieve their peak potential in both personal and group doesn’t matter their talent What make human race special is not about personal talent but the combine of all of us That is what he believe about , and is his goal
What if characters can turn into aeons unknowingly/unwillingly? That would be a scary realization, you never wanted this, and now you have to lose consciousness, old self and body and become pure instinctive unconsciousness.
Tbh I never thought that Aeons ascended willingly in the first place. I've learned a lot of people think that the will of the individual matters but I don't really agree. I think there would be a lot more Aeons if a strong will was all it took (which tbh is why I don't think much of Ruan Mei's hopes to become an Aeon, nor do I think it matters what Ratio would want either).
So he changed his name from Truth (Ontology) to Reason (Epistemology). Precisely how this relates to him chucking blocks of marble at people is... unknown.
I've always liked the Masked Fool Ratio theory, mainly because of his design - the mask (the first leaked model didn't have a sculpture mask, just the owl one showcased on his face) and the fact that his character model actually smiles, which I've always found odd cause it doesn't match his personality if you ask me. There's also this tiny detail in his trailer close to the end, when you can hear a sound resembling bells ringing and it kinda matches the fact that where's the Elation, there's always this bells sound announcing their presence. So yeah, might be onto something... 🤔 Or just a total coincidence, but I'd like it if it was actually true 😂
i feel a little less crazy having someone else think hsr is some form of simulation espe4someone who has either played hi3 too or has deep knowledge of it. When the recent mars quantum computer lore dropped in hi3 ive become even more convinced of hsr simulation theory.
It is 2 am and before this i watched a video listing the crimes of the ipc safe to say my view on HSR is completely changed and has derailed(pun intended) just like that one time i read a theory about tartaglia (genshin) being the reincarnation of the decender the gnosis were made out of, still haunts me, still haunts me. 19:26 oh nah, bro turned into the relic set . Also, I love they way you narrate all of this. Do you have any form of higher education pertaining in the field of mythology? In any case, excellent video.
You do have some compelling points, I’m just on the fence since enigma and nous seems to be the most sensible counter. There’s at most 18 aeons in game, well 17-since ena was absorbed by xipe. That means, one would have to be a counter to themselves, thus equilibrium. Hypothetically, if ratio does become an aeon, either he has to get swallowed by another or conquer one. I feel like he’ll get absorbed by nous, since in broader terms the truth is more subset of the mind. Nous’s whole shtick is to find answers, or in other words facts. Compared to enigma that’s riddled with puzzles and illusions for those very answers. Either way, I’m not knocking the theory, it’s perplexing me in a good way xD. Edit: But after hearing his achievements, I wouldn’t be mad if I see a one man fight with nous. Well despite not being entirely close, it kinda sounds like a nod to the whole Lucifer, God dynamic especially with Gnosticism at play here.
If this was true, every aeon would have to ascend at the exact same time as another aeon. They don't, which means the number of aeons is probably not important.
A few extra things...
1. I forgot to mention Dr Ratio has a close resemblance to Welt Joyce (expy?) further establishing a connection to Reason
16:30
I have a hypothesis: Each Path represents a particular conviction, a core thought that upholds the rest of the concepts that make it up.
possible proof as examples: Destruction - "the Universe is a mistake, everything (it) must be destroyed"; Preservation - "All life and good in the world must be preserved and protected as far as possible"; Equilibrium - "everything must always be in equilibrium"; Nihility - "everything is pointless and it makes no sense"; Finality - "everything will eventually end, so treasure it the way it is now"; and etc.
furthermore, I think that the Erudition's most base conviction is "Knowledge is for all and otherwise only the Dragon that houses the treasures for itself thinks", entailing that the Erudition seeks the knowledge of everything and its spread, inspiring teaching and proliferation of knowledge.
I can't find the rest 😭

@@retokazene5085 yeah was about to mention DU
Wasn’t the phase flame already existing and known of? The spider genius created the fire ifrit was born from iirc

I am sold on the Ratio is a counterpoint to Nous theory. You've convinced me.
Isn’t Mythus already in opposition of Nous? Maybe Ratio is a different kind of Erudition.
The counter to Nous is Enigmata. Enigmata believes that since Nous knows everything, theres no free will of choice so it ascended to counteract what Nous knows by adding fake information.
Noh Nous already has a partner lols, thats Mythus... Mythus is the Unkown, Nous is the Known, Relativism and Determinism, Quantum Physics vs Natural Physics, Uncertainty and Certainty, Imagination vs Rationality, Art vs Sciences. pre video; my assumption is that all the Geniuses we know are going to Ascend and replace/absorb existing Aeons. stuff like Herta's station being a repository of memories (Remembrance), Stephen constantly catfishing (Elation/Enigmata), RM reviving eldritch horrors etc. I think that to bring it back to topic, Ratio might replace HooH, between his name being "balance", or his guidance/midwifery. then the meta point of him being in every account, to tip the scales.
ok yeah. you came in with facts and knowledge. damn.

People should realize, ratio proud about being human more than being a high level creature

My brain has been broken...
You're welcome
Me at the start of the video: "lol Ratio as an aeon could be kinda funny, he could beat up Nous as revenge, let's see what this is about"
Me at the end of the video: "Dr. Veritas Ratio is the true protagonist of Star Rail, the world is his and we are simply living in it."
I'd worship him 100%. He's such a cool character.

I have seen posts before saying that Ruan Mei leaks suggest that she did achieve her goal of becoming an Aeon. Ratio might be the one to arise as her counter Aeon just like how he helped the trailblazer during that emanator shiz incident
I’m so for the first theory
If the first one is the case wouldn’t there have been lore on the previous Aeon of Erudition? I just feel we know too little about it.
But for the second one I definitely can see as if one Aeon arises another it could disrupt the balance and equilibrium.
Nope, Nous is the first Aeon of Erudition or of the same kind.
Ugh as a longtime Ratio fan I adore this video sm (hell I made a whole TikTok account dedicated to him 😭, I’ll probably make my own video on this later bc omg u fucking cooked gj) and you still gave me so so much to think about, and I have some thoughts of my own
Me and my Screwllum loving friend have basically convinced ourselves they are going to have a plot together on Amphoreus + Screwllum or maybe Ratio might become Rubert 3, but we shall see
4. Thanks for clarifying his name thing. EN translation absolutely kicked me in the ass with this one, however it’s still funny to think that his parents didn’t even bother giving him a first name (if they even exist)
5) oh my fucking god thank you for mentioning his connections w the Nihility. I have a whole ass tumblr post that’s unnecessarily long talking about the parallels between Ratio and Acheron’s philosophy and how he’s unknowingly walking the path of Nihility because fuck you Hoyoverse why did you make them say the exact same thing and never elaborate on it
6) Honestly I just want to thank you in general.
My overthinking theory would be:
Nous acknowledge him but doesn't glance at him.
Finally, THE Ratio video 😍
that's so curious, i've always assumed that the reason nous never glanced his way was because, contrary to all members of genius society, he isn't obsessed by a field of research, a question he wants an answer to at all costs. instead, focusing on knowledge for the sake of curing ignorance, he is far too altruistic and more of a teacher that a scientist, and that's why nous has no interest in him
just my interpretation tho! i just like to think him too human to be a genius :')
This is a light video- also dr ratio becoming an aeon would be cool along with the trailblazer
THIS IS TRULY MOST PEAK, I hold highest respect and honour for such perseverance for the noble pursuit of such excellence in this endeavor!
That's so curious! Thank you for the explanation on the translation differences!
15:35 i definitely agree with the fact that aeons come in pairs of opposites, but we already have a counter to Nous the Erudition in Mythus the Enigmata
Just started watching this video RAHH 0:55 PROMETHEUS💥💥💥💥🔥🔥🔥
"Hmm i wonder whats happening in the Star Rail theorycrafting side"
"Worm Ratio theory"
hmm.
yay!! worm theory !!! we all cheered
i think part of dr. ratio being connected to aha is ratio’s audacity. he clearly has seemed to look into things that nobody else would have, and brought answers that changed the course of science.
idk. it just feels *right* to me.
an aside: i feel like aha would randomly choose one random guy’s science experiments to suddenly be true. just for the silly.
my YT fyp will never recover from my HSR lore addiction
this is only the beginning
I can’t say I’m persuaded, but this is really funny and also logical and evidenced. Aha needs to sit up to watch this. (And I’m not persuaded by the Ratio as Aeon theory exactly because I agree the intention of HSR writers is to make him an atheist and a parallel to Nous(given all the reference to mythology and philosophy), and to reach that end, Ratio as a real mortal is the more direct and also complete philosophical confrontation to Aeon and their ideology. But this is still a very interesting and fascinating theory!! Thank you for your work! The explanation about myths and tarot culture helps a lot XD
ah yes Doctor VeriHIM RatiGOAT
Cronus is the leader of Titans, the child of Gaea and Ouranos, and the deity of harvest. Not to be confused with Chronos, the personification of time and(iirc) as old(if not older) as Chaos.
I find Ratio SO fascinating and keep considering the close connections between the Elation and the Nihility! I think it's deliberate that his "Doctor's Advice" for Aventurine sort of makes him resemble a Doctor of Chaos, trying to help reject the Nihility (even if he isn't one.) Also very interesting that his in game path is the Hunt, given it's pathstriders' ties to the Nihility too 🤔
If dr.ratio really become an Aeon Maybe his path name Will be knowledge and the Aeon he Will Absorb Will be nous the erudition
I was thinking about this theory some days ago as a "what if..." great video on the topic btw!
After video comment: Good job brooo. Wish you had gone more into theoretical physics because I feel like that's the second most important connection between Prom and Ratio, but overall good job. Maybe I'll take on the theoretical physics part in the future. :)
I trust you for that more than me hahaha
@@LalodysLoreyall hurt my brain too much for me to join in
This is unbelievably well done. I loved this, thank you :]
i'm gonna have to rewatch this video again some time cuz 1. i was doing GnG while watching (wild coincidence) 2. it's about ratio and anything pertaining to him is almost always gonna involve concepts too complicated for me to digest in one sitting (physics…) and 3. this theory hits different cuz i already love the idea of eldritch horror ratio so aeon ratio would be Right up my alley… veritas ratio the man you are
"If you are feeling brave, you can leave a comment guessing just how crazy this video is going to get" If you give me permission, I'll gladly do so!
I just know if you stick Dr Ratio in a ring with Acheron that Acheron isn't the one walking away from that fight..... mark my words hehehe
@@LalodysLore
Acheron: I weep for the departed.
While that would mean he might not be "human" by the end of it, (especially since my poor heart with angst) he is still one worthy of it.
if the next planet we are heading to is his home planet and we get more lore about him I will be so happy
I really wanna see a video by you about all the Aeons and Gnosticism owo also love crack theories they always the best!
you convinced me fully with the irl nous being paired with veritas
Dr. Ratio becomes an Aeon to dunk on Ruan Mei
ohmygod this is so good bc I love Ratio so much and everything about him is so mysterious it makes me absolutely crazy how so much about him is revealed only by other people and it's all so flawed... like trickled down rumors. I don't have the Energy nor brain power to be able to pull these things together so I appreciate people like you who deepdive on lore like this !!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH
WAKE UP LALODY'S LORE POSTED A NEW VIDEO 🗣🗣🗣🗣
I so happy this showed up in my feed, gonna binge watch all your hsr lore videos now!
Im in the corner still thinking of what Sparkle guessed from Sampo, that being Belobog being in danger in the future...
Early comment: His laurel has 8 leaves, one for each doctorate?
Yes, I think that's it
Praying that worm ratio will be mentioned
me too >_
Professor Lalody has fed us well yet again!! :D Big thanks to my favourite hsr theorist for covering one of my favourite hsr characters in such depth and complexity.
just read a fanfic about ratio getting blessed by Aha and become emanator of elation and your elation theory makes me giddy xixi
Potentially, but there's a lot of owls so can't say for sure. Owlbert, Prof Glaux, etc
Crazy enough for Dr. Ratio to ult the 1hp enemy every time
I see Ratio, I click
I really have two main questions:
Ration believe about human
Not genius human but all of the human in general
He believe human can achieve more if they can achieve their peak potential in both personal and group doesn’t matter their talent
What make human race special is not about personal talent but the combine of all of us
That is what he believe about , and is his goal
@@vietcuongnguyenle8530 That doesn't seem like a very anti-erudition intent.
@@myhl he doesn’t anti erudition
He just not put seeking knowledge as highest prioritize
It's not an exaggeration. Google Unified Field Theory and M theory. That part is based on irl theoretical physics.
@@CaffeineAnonymous Oh, so Ratio was able to explain and completely clarify the structure of space-time? I will hand it to him.
Aeons(the majority) don't lose their Conscience they Just become something diferent from before
Ruan Mei is my queen but I kneel for Ratio 🙏
1.6 having the best characters yet they're constantly mischaracterized to hell
I LITERALLY thought of this yesterday whattt (well not all the evidence but the aeon theory)
i see the lack of (new) ratio content in game is being handled well
Love these lore musings. Keep 'em coming! (Comment for the algorithm gods)
A lalody yt post day is a good day for me
i feel a little less crazy having someone else think hsr is some form of simulation espe4someone who has either played hi3 too or has deep knowledge of it.
Good stuff though my mind ate good even though i can comprehend and understand and teach easily im bad at researching. Thank you for doing gods work for me
i see sampo as the emanator of elation tbh i love this theory SOOOOO MUCH btw
19:26 oh nah, bro turned into the relic set . Also, I love they way you narrate all of this. Do you have any form of higher education pertaining in the field of mythology? In any case, excellent video.
I don't, but religion and culture has always fascinated me so I really enjoy spending time researching them.
I mean the most logical candidate is ruan mei but ratio sound interesting
I think he will become the Aeon of Mundanity
spreading knowledge so that all fact is mundane
@@LalodysLore I forgot to mention I was half way in, and I’m sorta sold. His resume looks too solid for him not to ascend. 😭
RATIO BECOMING AEON OF TRUTH WILL HAPPEN 100% LET ME BE DELUSIONAL
(YES THIS IS LIKE A REFERENCE FOR HERRSCHER OF TRUTH IN HI3 )
nous ratio enemies to lovers
If he met rappa he would help her in defeating dr primitive just to prove he is smarter
