Named in homage to two old black blues musicians from North Carolina, "PINK" Anderson and, "FLOYD" Council. The band was drawn to their raw, blues sound. No other band like them to compare to, they are the cerebral band of rock.

Hey You is a great song, Badger. And hopefully one day you'll want to listen to their longer songs, which are all amazing and beautiful and leave you wanting more.
I was your daughter’s age when I first heard Pink Floyd in the early 70's. PF has a unique style that is easily identifiable but is very flexible in that no two songs are the same. Pink Floyd albums are "concept" albums. What that means is the whole album has an overall theme or story to tell. In other words, a concept album is like a novel where each song is a chapter. The nice thing about PF is their albums and songs are enduring and remain relevant from generation to generation.
Your dad was 4 years older than I. I served 20yrs in the USAF but never went to Nam. I lived through Floyd Music as he did! Pink Floyd is not just music, it is an experience! Please keep Floyd going, there is so much more to hear! Thanks
It is NOT! NAM! It is Vietnam. Nam is the name you Hollywood type people gave it when you made movies about Vietnam to glorify war. You sound as if you missed out on an opportunity to go to a war. What's wrong with you?

ok.... early spring of 73. Dark Side of the Moon not yet released. "Money" was getting airplay, so I had heard that. I was (am) a long time Pink Floyd fan. Had bought "Umma Gumma" album from a cutout bin (discount) and became a fan. Reviewed the album for my high school newspaper. So I'm now at the end of my freshman year at a college in the NYC area. PF had played in Boston a couple of night earlier, and I had tickets for the midnight show (actually started at around 2AM) in Radio City Music Hall in NYC on St. Patricks day. The show starts, you hear the music and some fog effects. They're playing 'Echoes' with the driving bass line, but you can't see the band... until they appear out of the fog on a mechanical riser that lifts them up from below the stage while playing. First half of the show they do all the songs I love. After intermission, they play the entire Dark Side of the Moon album - including with the chick singers. So the first time I heard the entire album was live. Top that, commenters.....

Sorrow? My curiosity is high here. Cheers from Canada!

Very "good on ya" for curating your daughter's music. I ('63) curated my children's (Thing One '98 & Thing Two '00). My parents (Silent Generation) curated my reading. There is a great deal that your daughter can learn from music and bit of guidance until she gets a bit older is an excellent idea but headphones for her would help ;-)
"Money" audio only version would be better for Badger than Comfortably Numb. or "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" As both of these have more going on. Especially Another Brick which has British School Children singing 😉
You must let your kid listen to time, money and the great gig in the sky. Without them the experience of The dark side of the moon is incomplete. Come to think about. Let your kid listen to the whole album!
wow your dad was born the same year I was......Flower power 60's, sex drugs, rock and roll :) lol. My best PF album back then was "Saucerful Of Secrets", was surrealistic. Loved it.
Sadly, the depth of meaning and reflection, the emotion, the love and passion has been sapped from a lot of today's music. One of the reasons Dark Side of the Moon is one of the best selling albums ever is because of its deeper, questioning content. People are deep and complex, and Floyd examined that in droves. Great stuff.
🔺️ - I'd say, if you really like psychedelic rock, you should look into Pink Floyd's first album "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" and their early singles that feature Syd Barret. They are truly groundbreaking psychedelia. Unfortunately, Syd had serious mental issues and had to leave the band during the recording of their second album, "A Saucer Full of Secrets". There is a bit of his work on that album as well. After that, the rest of Pink Floyd's catalog is also great!

Be sure to hear Another Brick in the Wall Part II.
Great song! Added it to the list!
I see Jesus Christ Superstar and Sgt.Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band behind Badger, both excellent. I Play Superstar every Easter !!
It's my favorite musical! I love every version I've ever heard or seen, it's really an ALW masterpiece!❤️
Whoo hoo Put her onto ECHOES!!!! Oh and Headphones PLEASE, is the only way to listen to Dark Side, or any Pink Floyd!
Then your dad was cool , and had great music to listen too. Me too Vietnam veterans against the war . ✌️
"Money" audio only version would be better for Badger than Comfortably Numb.
or
"Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)"
As both of these have more going on. Especially Another Brick which has British School Children singing 😉
You must let your kid listen to time, money and the great gig in the sky. Without them the experience of The dark side of the moon is incomplete. Come to think about. Let your kid listen to the whole album!
this too is education
wow your dad was born the same year I was......Flower power 60's, sex drugs, rock and roll :) lol. My best PF album back then was "Saucerful Of Secrets", was surrealistic. Loved it.
Funny to watch, the young 'un's attention span is about 30 sec 🤣
Sadly, the depth of meaning and reflection, the emotion, the love and passion has been sapped from a lot of today's music. One of the reasons Dark Side of the Moon is one of the best selling albums ever is because of its deeper, questioning content. People are deep and complex, and Floyd examined that in droves. Great stuff.
🔺️
Do yourself a favor and wear headphones when you listen to 'Pink Floyd'.
We will next time, I was too sick to dig them out this time, I'm sorry about that! I know she will get the best experience with headphones!
Maybe the best intro to the PF
Their lyrics are rough for kids
“Triangle”… Great Gig in the Sky or Money 💵
