- Gordon goes winter camping with only the items in a coffee can. In this video, Gordon demonstrates how to make slumgullion stew using homemade hard tack survival rations, a super shelter, pine mattress, and sterilized water from snow. With surprises along the way and having to switch to his emergency alternate plan, this adventure was type 2 fun at it's best.

This was great brother! I am so glad to see you finally do long form content. I also appreciate your honesty and aim at education with safety in mind. I'd love to interview you and pick your brain for my podcast!
Thanks for the kind words! Would love to share on your podcast. Send me an email for sure!
Thanks for keeping it real. Survival is not perfect and your video shows it.
Really appreciate that. I definitely want to show these things in an authentic way… so that’s great to hear!
Man this is a great video!!!
Thanks so much, DJ!! That’s high praise coming from you! 💪🏼
Slumgullion predates Jack London for sure. I believe Mark Twain mentions it in "Roughing It," and slumgullion probably predates that book, which was from the 1870s.
It’s very interesting! I bet it’s quite old indeed!
I really like that you played this out and let us see where it didn't work out... realistic outlooks are important for survival planning.
Maybe it would have been better if you made some coffee with an egg thrown in? I did try it... I do think it killed some of the acidity and had an oddly creamier taste? For survival, I wouldn't waste an egg on a pot of coffee when I could just eat the egg, but that is a thing I'll add into my archive of "weird camping things" to amaze the city slickers!
Thank you for watching! Weird camping things, yes! Great to hear you tried the egg coffee!
Excellent videos for n00bs. Good for you to lay it out like that. Lots of lessons learned. Great job
Good to know for emergency situations
This was very entertaining and informative! Love this video you made!
Thanks so much!
The egg thing got me 😂 I think I recall Mors saying about building a 'Canadian fire' which was, essentially, as big as you can make it (after all, fuel in the boreal forest was not an issue). With limited fuel, as in your film, this would have been more difficult. I really admire your videos like this - really good to see someone putting their knowledge and kit to the test in properly awful circumstances. Well done for keeping it real.
Thanks, Paul! I really appreciate this comment!
Man you pick some tuff weather for testing!! But you're still the man!!
I appreciate you, man! I love the cold weather because there is 100% less spiders! 🕷️ 😂
Adventure in a can 😅 Maybe not the adventure you want, but knowing what to do, can make it better!
What a great video! The confidence you have to just say "Im gonna try and survive on this" is amazing! Thanks so much for making this, and I would love to see more like it!
Thank you, Josh! I really enjoyed making this… would love to do more like it!
I did find this very entertaining. I’m really enjoying the direction this channel is going. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback, that is great to hear!
RV for me, cup of hot cocoa and a game of scrabble...love to watch you conquer the wild though:)
That sounds like a great time too! Thanks for watching!
Could you please make a longer video on different bushcraft shelters and different types of campfire’s pls
That sounds fun! I will add that to the list for sure. Thanks for watching!
Such a solid video, great work with this! 🔥
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the cool recipie!😅
You’re welcome! Thanks for being here!
Man I love your sign off line.
I appreciate you, Nate!
Great video! Enjoy you accepting defeat and being responsible. Many videos are way too unrealistic.
I appreciate that! It’s what I was trying to convey, for sure.
Subscribed and liked! Awesome video, 🙏
Welcome aboard! So glad you are here!
that's the whole point indeed! without trying how would you know if things work or not? great video
Thanks for watching!
@@grimgranite Keep up the good work! subbed a while ago because the knife short videos, this is even better
This underscores the importance of collecting enough firewood to last through the night (It's always more than we think we need) and be prepared to stay awake if necessary to tend the fire because it's your lifeline in a shelter like that at those temperatures. I wonder, if you could do it again, what would you do differently? Would you choose a better saw or an axe to help with wood collection?
Thanks for watching! The constraint I gave myself, fitting everything in a can, meant that I couldn't fit an axe or a proper saw... this would have helped tremendously!
Amazing vid
Glad you enjoyed it
@@grimgranite i enjoy every single one of your vids
Great vid buddy . I respect using common sense and going plan b. I’ve suffered cold temps and survived sure but I also learned unless I’m actually in a life or death situation then I don’t have to have miserable nights lol. Challenges are definitely fun on personal levels . But I’m at the point ima be as comfortable as I can as long as it’s within my means . Have fun . But be smart . And know your limits .
Thank you, Bill! I appreciate you, brother!
Thanks for watching!
@@grimgranite Thank you very mutch... have a nice Weekend.... see you….
I wouldn't be able to survive lol but awesome video !!
❤ from 🇮🇪
Did you smash an egg with shells and all in that pan?
I sure did! It’s how you make Swedish coffee. You boil water with an entire egg and coffee grounds for 10 minutes. Delicious!!
@@grimgranite that's a new one for me. Interesting
Would have been a lot warmer if it had the ends closed.
What I didn’t show in the video was that I had the head end closed and snow packed into the seam going up the tree and the foot end I closed and clipped together. Absolutely, much warmer!
🙏 Promo sm
Where is the camera man going to go then
The backpacking shelter is quite large… plenty of room for at least 10 people in there if not more.
@@grimgranite oh my god bro he commented
@@Ilovecoryxkenshin-ux3hw I try! Thanks for watching, dude!
@@grimgranite your welcome I love your pro edge I wish I could have one
@@grimgranite I also follow your tips
good stuff! thanks for the time you take to make these vids. Your wire saw... useless... as a saw... but, how about an animal snare? DE W4EMB. Have a watch of my qrp cw action. thanks again!
I haven’t tried it as a snare set, I will have to give it a go some time. Thanks for watching! I will check out your QRP CW video too… I love watching CW videos!
what boots do you wear.
